The Sega Project Newsletter: Issue 4

[edit]

Wikipedia:WikiProject Sega/Newsletter/Issue4

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Planet Pachinko, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.wiiware-world.com/games/wiiware/planet_pachinko. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 11:34, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Wii Remote and Nunchuk

[edit]

Hey Nintendofootball. Great work on the List of WiiWare games article. When adding to the controllers column keep in mind that the accessory is spelled "NUNCHUK" with two N's and not "NUMCHUK" with an M. -Zomic13 (talk) 20:40, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

WiiWare articles

[edit]

Hey there, good work on creating some new articles for WiiWare games. Some points of advice though.

  1. Please don't just copy and paste text from other sources such as WiiWare World as it is. This can be cited as a copyright violation, which may result in your article being deleted. Its pretty easy just to rewrite it a bit for inclusion in the encyclopedia.
  2. Using "you" is somewhat discouraged, so its better off to describe "you" in the text as "the player" or "players" and "he" or "she" as "them" or "they".
  3. Don't forget to add categories.

Otherwise, keep up with the good work. Misterkillboy (talk) 10:42, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Tenshi no Solitaire

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Tenshi no Solitaire, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Bongomatic 05:38, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Well, it isn't spam, but it seems to be non-notable anyways, so I've proposed it for deletion.--Tikiwont (talk) 13:03, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Actually, I declined the speedy deletion as spam and changed the tag. As you clearly disagree with proposed deletion i've remove that tag, but you will indeed need to find better references to avoid a deletion discussion.--Tikiwont (talk) 19:30, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

For numbering the List of Animal Crossing Neighbours. Must've taken ages... YOWUZA Talk 2 me! 18:38, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on List of Animal Crossing Neighbors, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because List of Animal Crossing Neighbors is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting List of Animal Crossing Neighbors, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Nintendo task force membership update

[edit]

I am currently gauging the active membership of the Nintendo task force. I have split the members list into an "active list" and an "inactive list" and have moved all members (except myself) to the "inactive list". To confirm that you're still an active participant in the task force, please go to the membership list at WP:NIN and simply move your name from the "inactive list" back onto the "active list". If you no longer wish to be a member, simply remove your name from the list. After two weeks (around 23 March 2009), I will remove all names on the inactive list. Thank you, and hope you're still interested, MuZemike 20:28, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Nintendo Life

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Nintendo Life requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for web content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Disputed fair use rationale for File:1-Victor Villanueva Pocket God Winning Entry.jpg}

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:1-Victor Villanueva Pocket God Winning Entry.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. iPhone applications cat

[edit]

I saw you recently added this to a bunch of articles. Many, if not all of them, already are members of the Category:iPhone OS games category, a sub-category of Category: iPhone OS applications. Your addition is redundant. Please go back and check the articles you've edited and address any such redundancies, i.e. if it's a game, ensure that just the iPhone OS games cat is applied, and not the superfluous apps cat. --EEMIV (talk) 10:40, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

iPhone OS games is a distinguished sub-category of iPhone apps as a whole; per WP:SUBCAT, the addition of the parent cat is redundant. Please undo it. --EEMIV (talk) 10:52, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Cosmic Nitro Screenshot.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Cosmic Nitro Screenshot.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 22:06, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:IPhone Homebutton.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:IPhone Homebutton.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 18:52, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:WikiProject iPhone OS and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Wikipedia:WikiProject iPhone OS during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. iPhone Wikiproject

[edit]

Hi there. I'm an Apple enthusiast and iPhone owner, and I think that it's great that you've taken such an interest in these articles. I appreciate you setting up the new Wikiproject--and I'm not saying that it should be deleted--but I think that the articles need to come before a bunch of templates. If you want to really make a difference (and earn the respect of some of the veteran users, although most of them aren't that judgmental), start working on articles themselves. As a project, I'd like to pick a handful --say, iPod iPhone and iTunes--and set some concrete goals involving article assessment. That doesn't mean ranking; that means writing Good and Featured Articles, with a timetable. I'd like to get iPhone made a Good Article soon; it's really close. If you're unsure of what you can do, search for "citation" in the article to find facts needing sources. Google the issue, find a reliable source (third party journalist) and add the citation, like this. (May I recommend refTools?) Ultimately, Wikipedia is not about organization and subpages; it's about improving articles. So if you intend to lead a WikiProject, you need to get your hands dirty. (Don't be intimidated! It's not as bad as it sounds! :) )--HereToHelp (talk to me) 00:28, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Flight control app icon.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Flight control app icon.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:51, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Tyrannosaurus Strikes Back.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Tyrannosaurus Strikes Back.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

A tag has been placed on Cosmic Nitro requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you.
