Talk:WWE WrestleMania 21 (video game)
Notes from copy-edit
[edit]This actually wasn't in terrible shape, from a copy-editing standpoint. There are a couple of things that may need improvement, which are better accomplished by those familiar with the topic. The features section is a bullet pointed list of three items. This may read better in paragraph form, particularly given that there is so little text in the article as a whole. The bullet pointy-ness made me feel almost as though this was just a listing of the blurb items from the back of the package. Secondly, I reworded the second bullet to change the voice a bit. This is an encylopedia, not sales materials, so saying what "you" get to do doesn't sound quite right to me. However, inserting "the player" in place of "you" seems a bit choppy. I'll think on it some more and revisit if necessary. YMMV, of course. qitaana (talk) 01:45, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Music

[edit]I reverted this edit because it bordered on page blanking and was written as more of an opinion piece than an encyclopedic entry, but i think it definitely has value and merit as a different perspective and could probably be worked into the article. Here is the removed section: When Wrestlemania 21 was initially released, it was unfortunate that it was a buggy version that didn't connect to Xbox Live. THQ dropped the ball on the manufacturing end and released the incorrect version of software that happened to be code that was over a month old. THQ had Studio Gigante programmers come up with a patch to fix the Xbox Live connectivity issues but unfortunately, this did nothing to repair the other glitches in the game that would have been fixed had they done the right thing and recall the game entirely and released the correct version. The original write-up on this Wikipedia critique section accused Studio Gigante of caring only about graphics and not the gameplay and shipping the game late. It's true that Studio Gigante did ship the game a month late, however, the extra development time was for bug fixing and tweaks that unfortunately never made it into the released game and this adversely effected gameplay. Would it have made the game a 10? No. However, it definitely would have been considerably better than the buggy version that reached store shelves.
The game has a Create-A-Wrestler feature that focused on wrestling specific costume options and items rather than some of the lame fantasy items that were in the previous Xbox WWE games. Instead of insect attenae, anime hair, and monster heads, Studio Gigante focused on costume items that appeal to the hardcore wrestling fan. In this CAW mode, you can create classic wrestlers from the parts available. The Conquistadors masks, The Machines masks, Kato's mask from the Orient Express, Jake Roberts pants, Owen Hart's Blue Blazer singlet, Demolition Face Paint, Honky Tonk Man Jumpsuit, and Sabu's genie pants are just a few of the items available. (A few of these items have different names due to trademark laws but the fans will know which ones are which) All CAW parts aren't available initially, some of the parts must be unlocked in WWE Shop Zone after playing the game for a while.
The game also features a pretty comprehensive Create a Belt mode that has belt plates that wrestling fans will instantly recognize. The Million Dollar Belt, the original WWF I-C title, the original WWF title, the Hard Core Belt, and many other classic and original belt concepts can all be created here.
Is Wrestlemania 21 the best wrestling game ever? No, it is not without its flaws (the biggest flaw being a linear story mode with weak dialogue) but it is a solid wrestling game and a significant step up in gameplay, graphics, and quality from the highly disappointing Raw and Raw 2 by Anchor Inc. for the Xbox. THQ apparently had given the Wrestlemania 22 project to Rainbow Studios instead of Studio Gigante but the Wrestlemania 22 project has since been cancelled for unknown reasons and rumor is Rainbow Studios has also closed their doors.
