Requested move 11 October 2017

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Move. We have rough consensus that a descriptive title better fits the content. 15th Dalai Lama will be preserved as a redirect. Cúchullain t/c 14:32, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

15th Dalai LamaSuccession of the 14th Dalai Lama – The content written thus far doesn't so much talk about a person, but talks about a political process with geo-political consequences. Farang Rak Tham (talk) 11:17, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

On my part, agree. --Dereck Camacho (talk) 18:18, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
@ARRust:, Quigley and TV Guy Ping, ping away.--Farang Rak Tham (talk) 20:34, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

I found the article 15th Dalai Lama today precisely because of its current title. It provided me with the information I was seeking in a clear and concise way. I doubt whether I would have found it at all if the article had a different title. The article 14th Dalai Lama in comparison is long winded and I would have wasted much of my time in trying to find what I wanted, without success. As a result I clearly believe that this article should be left as it is for the benefit of other interested parties like myself. I am not a religious scholar, just someone who has used and supported Wikipedia financially for many years because it usually provides a quick and reliable source for the sort of information which I need from time to time.EricMarlow (talk) 10:30, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

I kind of have to agree with the sentiment that "15th Dalai Lama" is easier to find than "Succession of the 14th Dalai Lama". The title "Succession of the 14th Dalai Lama" implies the main subject of the article is about the 14th Dalai Lama, and not the concept of the 15th. I suggest keeping the current title. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:27, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
Should be notice for users Another Believer and EricMarlow that the current title is not going to disappear, is going to become a redirect to the suggested title. Which I endorse the change, naturally as I suggested. --TV Guy (talk) 23:40, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
Yes, I understand. And just the same, "Succession of the 14th Dalai Lama" could redirect to "15th Dalai Lama". ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:40, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
But the main title should be the most accurate, and technically this article is not about the 15th Dalai Lama, because we still don't know if there will be one, lots of things can happen. China may decide that they are more confortable without Dalai Lama at all after all. Or two Dalai Lamas might be chosen by opposite sides and I guess the title will be "claimants to the 15th Dalai Lama title" or "Dueling Dalai Lamas", etc. --Dereck Camacho (talk) 01:49, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
  • Support. The proposed title describes exactly what the article is about, whereas the current one concerns an entity that doesn't exist yet, and may possibly never exist, if circumstances change.  — Amakuru (talk) 16:41, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
