Taris, really?
[edit]"Zayne Carrick, a young Padawan training at the Jedi Academy on Taris"
Having not read the comic, I can't confirm or deny, but it seems odd that there is a Jedi Academy on Taris. I've only played through KotOR, but in that (admittedly after the time of this comic), it was a planet entirely subsumed by a supercity. That, and there's no mention of there being an academy there on the list of Star Wars planets..
Marcthepirate (talk) 17:31, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yup. Zayne and the others were trained (or training, at least) on Taris. There is only a small Jedi Academy with five masters on the planet. I suppose it's more of an 'informal' Academy, really. Tormentress (talk) 16:23, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
E3 2008 KotOR MMO Reports
[edit]I'd just like to note that while several articles state that John Riccitiello has confirmed a KotOR MMORPG in development by BioWare, there is no actual proof that he did indeed do so, nor is there any official verification. This, coupled with the fact that there have been dozens of cases where similar "confirmation" has previously been made, and the fact that BioWare staff refused to comment, citing again that they "do not comment on rumors", seeds a little doubt - surely, if EA were planning to announce the MMORPG, the development team and PR people at BioWare would have received the memo? The fact that these reports are widely published by now is no surprise, nor do I believe it adds any more weight to the rumor's "factual" basis since all of the prior rumors which have now been disproved also went viral in a manner almost identical to this.
Until there is some proof or official/reliable verification - as outlined in WP:PROVEIT and WP:SOURCES - then I propose that we leave the mention of this 'announcement' as a mere neutral acknowledgement of the reports in the Sequel Plans section of this article; pending either verification from an official source, and/or proof that John Riccitiello did actually make this statement. Neither have thus far been found nor provided, which basically means that the "confirmation" of the MMORPG is merely hearsay at this point.
When proof or verification from a notable - preferably official - source pops up, then we can discuss reworking the information as established fact, and cover the topic of how we should best integrate it into the current KotOR game series articles. But until then, we should tread carefully not to publish facts, until we have our facts straight.
Can we agree that this is fair? Mikouen (talk) 15:30, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
- Condé Nast Portfolio conducted an interview with Riccitiello in which he confirmed that BioWare will be developing a Knights of the Old Republic MMO. Portfolio appears to be a reputable business magazine that qualifies as a reliable source. It isn't as solid as EA or BioWare coming out with a press release, but unless there's a problem with Portfolio as a source, then I believe this interview meets Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. Why is The Old Republic on the Knights of the Old Republic page?
[edit]I don't see why Star Wars: The Old Republic is part of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic page. The Old Republic isn't part of the KotoR franchise; the only commonality these two IP's have is that they take place in a much earlier time period in the Star Wars legends universe (ToR takes place ~300 years after the Kotor games). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scyphe (talk • contribs) 05:03, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
- Because sources refer to it as such, and it has multiple tie ins to it. -- ferret (talk) 14:29, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
Unsourced gamecruft
[edit]Hi @Sariel Xilo:, you've undone my edit. I should've been more clear in my edit summary, it's a huge heap of WP:GAMETRIVIA. Let's take a look at the differences between my edit and its current status:
- the image is of the cover of the first game, while this article is about the series
- The release table is unnecessary I believe, especially when it's directly followed by a release timeline sidebar Done
- I would move the remake section up, since, well, it's a remake and not a new game
- I moved the characters up, as characters are often considered part of the plot Done
- A section called "new introductions" is just odd, it's part of this particular series and it's entirely unsourced (per WP:BURDEN, it's up to you to add sources, otherwise please remove it again) Done
- The list of comics is unnecessary, no information whatsoever (WP:NOTDIRECTORY) Done
- A section on "cinematic trailers" is also unnecessary Done
Please take a moment to check my edits and incorporate them into article, if not just reinstate them all together. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 16:47, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the more detailed explanation; I added some checkmarks to your list above to track changes. The new introductions section (which included characters) appeared to be an attempt to highlight new aspects introduced to the game; I folded that into either the gameplay or synopsis sections depending. I also moved the list of comics into the comics dedicated article. I think info about the cinematic trailers could be added to a marketing section but I don't have time right now to do a deep dive into how the series has been marketed over time. I disagree about moving the remake section up since it is essentially the start of something new; I updated the headings (Original series, Remake, Other games) to differentiate between them. The image could be replaced with a series logo but it's not uncommon to include the cover art of the first in a series. Sariel Xilo (talk) 18:51, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Sariel Xilo:, fantastic work you've been doing. The article looks a lot better already! The remake part isn't a point of contention for me, it also works fine this way. I've tweaked the infobox a bit and tagged it with {{cn}}, but it's already in way better shape it ever was. Thanks, and happy editing. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 20:03, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
