[edit]Is there a reason for a link to a "forun" with no posts and a web site "comming" soon? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.126.34.230 (talk) 14:15, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
There are three red herrings in this game. What about guy dancing with the red fish in The Courtyard and Chapel?
- Good find. I tried to work it in, if someone could revise it for clarity if needed I'd appreciate it. 68.60.18.222 21:07, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Interesting, never made the connection before! It is known that some parts of the game were left undeveloped due to deadlines (i believe it was known this would happen entering development, just not to which pieces..), and I wonder, pure speculation, if this is at all related to the cleanup phase, or a marking that something is included because someone went out of their way to develop it, but it didn't quite work in the plot because other pieces were missing for a scene. This would definitely be a question worth asking anyone from the development team, who would remember for sure.
- The red herrings were just a visual pun. Only one designed section was cut (more for technical reasons than due to time), an action section for "Grimwall vs. The Hive". Aside from that, the original Grimwall level was completely tossed out and redesigned during development because the original wasn't working out. The Hive setting came about due to an office poll: "What creeps you out?" "Bugs" was the most common (or maybe just most convenient) answer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.89.221.176 (talk) 20:14, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- The programmer "outburst" is, almost certainly, a reference to the Offspring's "Bad Habit"--which contains that exact phrase. Dunno if anyone wants to work that in, or knows of the phrase being more common than that. FangsFirst 04:20, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Hello, I am the creator of the YouTube walkthrough added to the "External Links" section. The video provides a comprehensive guide to the game. I believe it adds value to the article. Please let me know if there are any concerns. Ionescu Razvan (talk) 13:50, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Ionescu Razvan: - See WP:YOUTUBE - I don't think that linking to this is very helpful to the reader, and doesn't appear reliable as Youtube videos are a WP:USERGENERATED source. Youtube videos may be fine if the channel is run by a subject matter expert that has previously published work in reliable sources relevant to the subject, per WP:SPS, but that doesn't appear to be the case here. Linking a Youtube video you made also seems promotional to me - see WP:COI. Waxworker (talk) 22:38, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- I respect your point of view and the standards you aim to uphold. However, I find it surprising that the link was removed without any prior discussion on the Talk page. How is a full walkthrough of 'Sanitarium'—a topic directly related to this page—not considered helpful to readers? A visitor seeking information about the game would likely find such a resource valuable.
- You mentioned concerns about user-generated content being unreliable, yet Wikipedia itself is built on user-generated contributions. The reliability of content should be judged on its merit and quality, not its origin. Have you reviewed the walkthrough I provided? It’s a professionally made, 4K upscaled, comprehensive guide, created with a passion for the game and attention to detail. Dismissing it without review undermines the principle of fact-checking.
- Additionally, the claim that my channel is unreliable because it’s new seems unfounded. As someone with over 32 years of gaming experience, I’ve poured my knowledge and expertise into creating content that informs and supports the gaming community. Judging my work solely on the channel's age, without evaluating the actual content, feels unfair.
- I believe the walkthrough adds value to the article, and I request a reconsideration of the decision. I’m open to further discussion but would appreciate a more thorough review before such decisions are made in the future. Ionescu Razvan (talk) 23:48, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Ionescu Razvan: - I see that you've previously brought up adding Youtube links on the Teahouse here, and I echo the points made by other editors there - Youtube is a WP:USERGENERATED source and your Youtube channel does not appear reliable. Repeatedly trying to add Youtube links to you or your wife's youtube channel seems spammy to me. Wikipedia itself is a similarly unreliable user-generated source per WP:CIRCULAR. You could ask at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games for other editors' opinions. Waxworker (talk) 14:18, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply, Waxworker. However, I must point out that your response shifts the discussion away from the merits of the link itself to assumptions about my intent and unrelated contributions. By bringing up past edits from entirely different contexts, you demonstrate a lack of focus on the actual content and relevance of the link in question.
- The video link I proposed is a comprehensive walkthrough directly tied to the Sanitarium article, providing additional value for readers interested in exploring the game. It’s not about self-promotion but about improving the resourcefulness of the article for its audience. Shifting the discussion to accusations of spamming and unrelated topics diminishes the credibility of your argument.
- Furthermore, as a professional gamer with 32 years of experience and someone who has dedicated a lifetime to gaming, I approach projects like this with both expertise and passion. At 41 years old, I’m well beyond any novice approach to these contributions. Dismissing the walkthrough as unreliable without proper consideration undermines the value of the work and effort that went into creating it.
- Your deflection and reliance on assumptions suggest that your judgment may not be entirely reliable in assessing the value of content objectively. This kind of approach demonstrates a lack of thorough understanding of Wikipedia’s goals—to provide well-rounded, relevant, and accurate information.
- I will escalate this discussion to WikiProject Video Games, where I trust editors will evaluate the link on its merits rather than resort to irrelevant personal judgments.
- Thank you for your time, but I believe it’s essential to maintain focus on what serves the readers and improves the article, rather than engaging in speculative or dismissive behavior. Ionescu Razvan (talk) 15:14, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- Ionescue Razvan, you do a whole six paragraph rant about how Waxworker hasn't said anything about the merits of the link despite the fact that he has repeatedly explained why your YouTube channel is not a reliable source by Wikipedia standards, and even provided links to the relevant policies. That not only "diminishes the credibility of your argument" as you would put it; it casts serious doubts on whether you have the basic honesty and/or reading comprehension skills needed for editing Wikipedia in a constructive manner. Martin IIIa (talk) 03:21, 26 December 2024 (UTC)
- I want to clarify that my intention in suggesting the inclusion of the upscaled 4K walkthrough link is not about personal promotion—I genuinely don’t need it. The channel will be growing rapidly, and this isn’t about self-interest. My sole purpose is to provide a high-quality resource for viewers, especially given the age of the game.
- This walkthrough uses smart upscaling to present the game in 4K, offering a modern visual perspective on an older title. It serves as a reference that complements the article and helps readers who might want to see the game’s details more clearly or better understand its design and gameplay. Including it in the external links section—an area specifically for optional additional resources—aligns with the goal of enhancing the reader’s experience.
- I respect Wikipedia’s guidelines and neutrality and am happy to adjust or discuss further to ensure compliance. My sole aim is to contribute something that benefits the community while preserving the integrity of the article. Ionescu Razvan (talk) 03:41, 26 December 2024 (UTC)

Music
[edit]"Inside the file RES.001 (entry #40) there is a remix music which we never hear in the game."
This is not true, the music is played at the end of the game, during the credits.
- I can confirm that the music is played at the end of the game, during the credits. The music is not played when the Show Credits button is pushed, so to hear the music you have to complete the game. --ReCover 18:08, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry about the mistake. I also can confirm that. I've changed the description to be accurate. --alexfont 14:30, 30 May 2007 (GMT)
just want to update on the march 15th here that the download link for music isnt working and that fansite is probably dead —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.212.59.70 (talk) 18:54, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Levels in Sanitarium
[edit]I added a view link for the first 4 levels we have. The view shows the complete scenario of the scene without any actors or objects in it. Hope to put view options for every level. --alexfont 08:57, 5 June 2007 (GMT)
Defective disks
[edit]Is it true, as the guy in the XP compatibiligy guide (http://home.earthlink.net/~infernofilecabinet4/XpSetupsP_T/Sanitarium_Setup.htm) says, that there are defective disks of this game that blow up in your system? I want to know.
- I've tested right now my original version of the game and it seams to work fine. The first and third discs do a little bit of noise, but nothing serious. I also have the v1.01 FINAL / BUILD 851 version which I think is the one without the lockup bug in the 2nd chapter. Anyway, I always play and manage the game files with a backup CD I made and never with the original ones, indeed to protect them from scratches and things like this. --alexfont 21:03, 26 June 2007 (GMT)
Fair use rationale for Image:Sanitarium box art.jpg
[edit]Image:Sanitarium box art.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Easter Eggs
[edit]Mad Programmer Outburst
Just a note that "Stupid dumbshit goddamn motherfucker!" is a line from the song Bad Habit by The Offspring. Most likely this was the inspiration for this quote.
