There was a move RfC in March 2024. The result of which was "not moved". See WP:COMMONNAME. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:57, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The hate against Kannada and Bengaluru has gone too far now

[edit]

I don't understand why Bengaluru's wiki page and RCB's wiki page is not allowed to be renamed. Absolutely shameless that even reliable sources and official government sites also have renamed. Mongers want the colonial name to suppress Kannada.

I protest against the behaviour of these haters and politely request you "social warriors" to rename the above 2 articles ASAP.

Thank you Indigoball (talk) 18:14, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't you read the big green box? It comes under WP:TOOSOON. The change will happen eventually in 2-3 years, just not now.
Besides, if you don't like the colonial name, why are you reading the colonial language? Each language's words are created according to the convenience of the speakers of that language. Bangalore is easier and less funny to read for English speakers. Similarly Bengaluru is easier for Kannada speakers. Pur 0 0 (talk) 11:56, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Another hater here. I remember Kings XI Punjab being renamed to Punjab Kings and that move happened within a year (I don't know exactly when). What's the problem with Bengaluru? I thought wikipedia uses official names but people here like what is more commonly used. Too soon it seems. It's been more than 6 months. Bangalore was officially renamed like a decade ago. But "TOO SOON" :) Indigoball (talk) 16:45, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Maintain WP:CIVIL. "people here like what is more commonly used" ← Not people but policy. Are you a sock? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:31, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 27 November 2024

[edit]

Royal Challengers BangaloreRoyal Challengers Bengaluru – During the BangaloreBengaluru move, it was noted that one of the only sources to stick with "Bangalore" past October 2023 was The Gleaner, which only talks about the city in relation to the IPL team. On my talk page after I closed that RM as successful, I noted that since RCB's name change in March this year, The Gleaner seem to have switched (March, May, October)

After being pinged regarding the aforementioned RM at WP:RMTR, I noticed a similar move request that should be pro forma but, due to a previous unsuccessful request, the full RM process needs to be gone through. I contend that the combination of WP:CONSISTENT (with the city), WP:TITLEVAR (the predominant term in Indian English), and WP:NAMECHANGES (sources use the new name more since March: Bengaluru vs. Bengalore) means this move should be relatively uncontroversial. Support. The logo also has Bengaluru written in it and so do all sources now. As such if anyone really tries searching Bangalore, they will be redirected here and read the opening statement anyway. Besides, who's gonna get confused by just 3 alphabets when the pronunciation is roughly the same? Pur 0 0 (talk) 14:30, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
