Gameplay cv-unsure

[edit]

The Gameplay section of this article seems to be an almost direct copy-paste from the developer blog citations. I don't know if the content is copyrighted or not but if someone could look at this issue I would greatly appreciate it. At the very least it seems like overt plagiarism, so I tagged it with Cv-unsure. I am currently under a school filter so I can't access a lot of content needed to make an informed opinion on this. Apologies for the disturbance. Zupotachyon (talk) 20:09, 28 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Zupotachyon: Just passing through the article to see the changes that have been made in the last months; I'm not sure if the edits I've done count as plagiarism even though I referenced the original blog. If it is that way, I apologize in advance and I'd be glad to help fixing this. Thank you for your attention for improving the article! --Jamez42 (talk) 13:21, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Jamez42: Mainly the issue is that the information is directly sourced from the developer's blog word-for-word. Although an essay, WP:COPYPASTE sums up my worries pretty much. It's definitely preferable to roughly paraphrase the information from secondary sources. To a larger extent this issue could be attributed to lack of coverage, but I thought it prudent to tag the sections for now until someone else comes along and fixes them. I don't mean to criticize your work - I only have issues with what's on the page right now. Zupotachyon (talk) 23:43, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Zupotachyon: No worries, I completely get what you mean; it was one of the first articles I worked with and I didn't think about it. Since then there haven't been many edits, hopefully that'll change when the game is released. --Jamez42 (talk) 00:52, 26 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Jamez42: Awesome! Glad we worked it out. Hopefully the game doesn't get pushed back another time, otherwise someone might have half a mind to speedy delete the article. Zupotachyon (talk) 00:57, 26 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Zupotachyon: Let's hope, although I noticed there are a lot of articles about upcoming games. In the meanwhile I can rephrase the section if you wish. --Jamez42 (talk) 01:01, 26 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Jamez42: I found some sources after searching for a bit (hatted below). They all seem to repeat the same information to varying extents but those could be used to replace some of the text from the blog. Whether you decide to rephrase the text right now or wait until the game's released/delayed is up to you. I'll see what I can do later in the day.

Request changes

[edit]

The page has several issues and mistakes that should be changed because of their inaccuracy.

1 - The page says "Although the game had a Kickstarter campaign which ended in a success, it did not release in 2013 as planned". That is false. The game release date has never been official (there is no source that officially proves that the game had to come out in 2013), therefore it is impossible that it was planned to be released in 2013.

2 - The page says "The developers went silent until late 2014", which is also false. There are numerous tweets of Leonard Menchiari the creator of the game that kept describing all the progress of the game as you can see in his twitter feed: http://twitter.com/lmenchiari

3 - The apparent references are wrong as you can see in [2]. If you go down the linked page you will clearly notice that the information was misinterpreted when you read the following sentence: "Predictions? Aiming for the second half of 2014. That is our main goal of course, but no promises."

4 - By starting the article with a paragraph that describes the delays of the project, puts most of the attention on something that is not beneficial to the project, and very unfair to those who kept working on it to make it happen. The project is still alive, as you can see it is also a top finalist of the indiecade game festival: http://www.indiecade.com/games/selected/riot-civil-unrest

Making a videogame requires a long time, and being a first project it is more than understandable if it takes several years to develop (especially when only two people are struggling to make it happen)

I kindly ask to remove the following section:

"Although the game had a Kickstarter campaign which ended in a success, it did not release in 2013 as planned. The developers went silent until late 2014, which they gave the date of release as "Early 2015". It was later moved to "Late 2015". After the game was postponed two more times, the developers gave the release date as "April 2016". Another update had moved the release date to "Summer 2016", but was recently delayed again in a twitter post, saying that "it's probably not the case (being sometime after the end of Summer)".[2]"

or to replace it with the one that was discarded because of the possibility of "conflict of interest" that I wrote.

Thank you

Hi there. I have looked over at the request, and here is the summary of the edits that I have done:
  1. checkY Done - reworded the sentence to say that this was the date that the developers were aiming for.
  2. ☒N Generally, twitter should not be used as a source, and, given that you have provided no links to such announcements, I ignored this part of the request.
  3. checkY Moved the reference to the relevant part of the paragraph.
  4. ☒N The paragraph is important as part of the Wikipedia entry, I have added a sentence giving a new release date described by steam.
  5. Red XN The section will not be removed, however, I have removed unsourced release date developments.

Please make sure to disclose your connection to the subject in question for later requests. Regards, VB00 (talk) 06:41, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
