Dick Biondi
[edit]Did Dick Biondi provide any voice work in this game? When I installed it the part that said "Welcome to Microsoft Midtown Madness, -Chicago Edition", it sounded alot like him.--jonrev 05:08, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

This article meets the Good Article criteria and has therefore passed. Gary King (talk) 04:04, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Reception
[edit]Does this section need to be so long? I get whiplash reading so many "he-said-she-said" descriptions. Personal taste, I guess, but...I kind of feel like this section could be half as long and still give a complete picture of the game's reception. Any thoughts? Frank | talk 04:33, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Modding community
[edit]Maybe this isn't well known(?), but MM1 had a bunch of modders who created new vehicles and new tracks for Midtown Madness. Can this be included as a small note for the "legacy" of the game? -- Guroadrunner (talk) 05:13, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- Absolutely, if reliable sources can be brought in to verify this information. Giggy (talk) 07:34, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- You can try searching Google News for the most reliable sources. Or just google it. --░▒▓Frogger3140▓▒░ (talk) 12:24, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
Importance
[edit]Far be it from me to arbit anything on Wikipedia that I don't really know about, but does this article really qualify for a featured-article status? It seems...well...like the relevance criteria even for inclusion in the encyclopedia are a bit sketchy.
Are there any relevance qualifications for featured articles on Wiki? If not, should there be? How did this article get selected? This particular game hardly tore up the gaming scene, or if it did, I was hiding under a rock when it hit...
Just some musings. 76.254.142.150 (talk) 05:45, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- This comes up every time a video game article ends up on the front page... One: The article's subject passes WP:N so it does merit an article, and Two: Main Page featured articles are chosen based on quality, not subject matter. Una LagunaTalk 06:14, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
Though some games deserve to be featured as they are revolutionary to the gaming industry, Half Life, NFS series, DOOM, Counter Strike. Midtown madness brought nothing that revolutionized gaming. Half the article is about it's reception, which isn't perfect on that note. There is nothing significant about the article, and a better choice should (and I stress should) have been chosen in the interests of Wiki's community.

- What part of "Featured articles are chosen on how well written they are and not their importance or significance in their field" is so hard to understand? NeoChaosX (talk, edits) 07:25, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- Almost half the article is about it's reception, there is no quality here. There is no mention of the modding community which was quite strong and released a well number of new vehicles and maps. One of the links is a 404, the article does not discuss the vehicles featured in the game, no mention of how pedestrians are implimented ...
- King (talk) 02:25, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- As I said in a different section above, please feel free to introduce any information that is backed up by reliable sources (as long as it doesn't turn the article into a game guide). Giggy (talk) 07:00, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is meant to be (and should be) all-inclusive. Therefore, ho-hum games such as this one have a shot at becoming articles (and by extension FAs). Brutannica (talk) 07:43, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, I think it's completely unsurprising that articles on less important topics, like this one, are easier to get featured. You typically have fewer reliable sources to try to represent fairly in the article to make it comprehensive, fewer people wanting to push their own view of the subject onto the article, thus keeping it stable, and generally less hassle all round permitting you to focus on simply writing the best article you can. This isn't necessarily a problem with Wikipedia or one that should be addressed if it is; it's a fact of life that writing about a complicated topic is harder than writing about a straightforward one and the end results of the latter effort are more likely to be of better "quality". Modern games similar to Midtown Madness
[edit]Midtown Madness will turn 10 in less than two months. Are there any current games that will allow you to drive around a city? Cousert (talk)
- Not that I know of, and i've tried dozens of games. Trainboy3 72.92.106.100 (talk) 15:26, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
Math 101
[edit]"Midtown Madness features four single-player modes: Blitz, Circuit, Checkpoint, Sniper, and Cruise." Call me crazy, but that sounds like 5 things, not 4. (Crowless (talk) 18:15, 24 March 2011 (UTC))
Issues with FA status
[edit]I'm not going to nominate this for FAR just yet, but it has a few problems that I think push it below the level expected of a proper FA:
- Some informal and awkward writing, e.g. "cops" (which is actually linked to police officer), "damaged out",
- Also some vague writing, e.g. "somewhat realistic", "The game is distinctly different from other racing games" (What other racing games? Roughly what percentage of them, or what subgenre of them?)
- The first two paragraphs of Gameplay are slightly wanting of detail. I don't feel like I really understand the individual modes.
- Not a big deal, but there's one dead link.
- Gameplay needs some extra citations.
- The Vehicles section is unnecessary and should be merged into Gameplay as a table or list in the prose. Also needs sources, particularly for the parenthetical information about the Red Rocket and Monster Truck.
- Reception is poorly organized: the second paragraph lapses near the end into information unrelated to sound, and the first one could probably be split into two as it covers a great deal. Also, the use of "fun" is vague and probably unnecessary. Overall, Reception could stand to be reorganized from scratch.
- The screenshot and artwork needs a better FAR. Screenshot also probably belongs in Gameplay.
- I went ahead and fixed the cover art. Salavat (talk) 09:14, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
Not that you're likely to be around, but... @Giggy: Tezero (talk) 21:19, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think it would pass a FAC today on completeness alone. Also needs a cleanup and more footnotes. czar ♔ 23:42, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- I'm curious now. What other completeness issues does it bare? Tezero (talk) 23:48, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
At any rate, these issues have not been addressed so I'm FARing it. Tezero (talk) 19:13, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
Michigan or Chicago?
[edit]The article says Chicago but when I played yesterday I was playing in Michigan...can someone check this? -- t numbermaniac c 08:01, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
My bad, it was just LAKE michigan. It's Chicago. Sorry! -- t numbermaniac c 09:11, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
