Moved. See general agreement below to drop the "Region" in this title and include a parenthetical qualifier. There is also a suggestion to rename similar titles the same way, as well as notification of inconsistency in other similar article titles that give this a wider scope? This precedent may support some or all of those as tech moves. Kudos to editors for your input, and Happy Publishing! Maritime Region → Maritime (Togolese region) – Per WP:PLACEDAB. The region's proper name is "Maritime", but maritime is a disambiguation page, and Maritime (region) could be ambiguous with several places. - Support – Current title is not unique, and thus could cause confusion: i.e. disambiguation is necessary in this case. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 15:37, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
- Move to Maritime Region, Togo to match other pages in Category:Regions of Togo. Celia Homeford (talk) 14:11, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
- Actually I was going to suggest that the other regions should be renamed to match the (Togolese region) disambiguation where it's required. As I understand it these regions are formal political divisions (like a state or province) rather than a geographic region, and the proper name of this region is "Maritime", not "Maritime Region". The article for where I live is not titled Prince Edward Island Province, for example. Although that does exist as a redirect. Hmm. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 15:22, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
- Move all to "Foo (Togolese region)" titles. I agree with Ivanvector; "Region" does not appear to be part of the actual name of these subdivisions. bd2412 T 03:27, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
- To clarify, I would also support this. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 15:57, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose – The linked article on French Wiki is Région maritime (Togo). I would support Maritime Region (Togo) or Maritime Region, Togo as suggested by Celia. 2A02:C7D:3C1A:7300:C9CF:BB45:3834:108E (talk) 19:12, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
- French Wikipedia doesn't seem to have a specific naming convention for geographic places, but this one in particular is a bad example to compare to English standards. It includes a descriptor of the geographic feature in the title which is against the English standard unless it serves natural disambiguation (it doesn't in this case because "maritime region" is still an ambiguous title) and it is also parenthetically disambiguated where disambiguation is not necessary (fr:Région maritime redirects to the same article and there don't seem to be any other uses). Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 16:49, 9 December 2018 (UTC)
- Of countries that have generic terms for region names, most Wikipedia articles use "Region" in the title (e.g. Burkina Faso, Ghana, Cameroon) and some don't (e.g. Equatorial Guinea). It doesn't appear that any use "region" in the disambiguator, though. — AjaxSmack 06:48, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

Maritime (Togolese region) → Maritime Region, Togo – Consistency with the other regions' article titles. Previous arguments against the proposed title had incorrect understandings of the French names. As evidenced by this Togolese government source, "Region" is a part of their names, unlike the example of Prince Edward Island. Yue🌙 03:51, 21 August 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. - Support per nom. Note also Category:Regions of Togo in which this name is an anomaly. Andrewa (talk) 10:44, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
