Lands of Lore Wiki

[edit]

Hey everyone. If you need a resource for anything about this game and others in the series, I and team of editors have put together a really comprehensive wiki on the subject with over 1,000 articles. And if there are any editors out there who are intimately familiar with these games, we'd love to have your contributions as well. I've even spoken to Rick Gush, head writer, and other developers from Westwood Studios in an effort to get a more complete picture. Not to sound like a shameless plug, just trying my best to archive this unique and inspired hidden gem of a series that has been unfortunately buried by time. Thank you. The Morrowind and Oblivion reference

[edit]

I feel that the reference to Morrowind and Oblivion is completely inappropriate, as it seems to suggest that the Lands of Lore series pioneered the "first-person rpg" genre, whe this is clearly not the case, as there have been countless games of that type before. Also, the Elder Scrolls series was conceived around the same time that the Lands of Lore series was.

Respect the Lore

[edit]

This is a great game, and the fact that it is pretty much a stub and had no talk page seems very strange, considering it was a pretty big game. Some games have reams and reams of information about every character/place/vehicle yet this has a quick synopsis and that's about it. I just think it could do with some augmentation.Don Black 11:20, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm going to slowly add more and more, if there are no objections. I'll add things like quest details and the like, and information about the more important NPC's, and probably a history of Gladstone section...not that anyone really cares... Don Black 10:59, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That would be nice. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.82.47.36 (talk) 03:06, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Lands of Lore III.PNG

[edit]

Image:Lands of Lore III.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Errors, bugs and failures on the game

[edit]

First comes an error in the wiki article: "The leveling system works in a similar way to the Elder Scrolls games, whereby using abilities enough will lead to leveling up in the guild that specialises in that particular ability, and higher levels unlock more skills."

You indeed need to perform actions belonging to your class (stealing for thief, using magic for mage & apothecary, fighting for warrior) in order to get exp, but it will not allocate exp to adequate class only. the exp is shared equally between all classes you have: using magic will distribute exp equally between warrior and mage classes if you have both.

Second, errors in game: The game, despite it's late release was still unstable. The most common error in this game is during area change : it often crash, back to desktop. The most annoying part of it is that it will rewrite cache from scratch everytime, and it takes some time.

The game has many bugs. One of them (as far as i know) make the game unplayable, but it doesn't always happen.

Failures: The town is divided in 2. You may want to go from and to each area since there are shops in both, but there will be a CD change each time, making it quite frustrating (fixing that requires a crack).

Another failure is that the game allow you to go anywhere you want at some point, but doing so results in an event that make all guilds quests impossible to finish. In other words: the game is less linear, but should you do the areas in a different order than the "good" -no hint at all in game-, you won't be able to reach last guild rank (and of course, won't have the last skills for your class).

Last one... there's a patch for the game, but it doesn't fix any of the most important bugs (actually, i have no idea of what it fixes...).
