Enigma does not currently support the popular cooperative two-player network games that were available with some versions of Oxyd. However, most of the two-player landscapes are playable in single-player - something the Oxyd games never offered.

Errrm this is not correct - some of the versions of Oxyd offered single players the ability to play double-player screens by having a special item that allowed you to switch between the two marbles. - Zuytdorp Survivor 23:46, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Urgh. I hate this game. It is far too difficult. 88.108.231.103

Some levels are deliberately designed to be very difficult, even veteran players of Enigma also have a hard time figuring them out. --Bruin_rrss23 (talk) 13:54, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Probable health risk

[edit]

Because Enigma requires dexterity of the pointing device, some levels are timed (e.g. Question of Speed) and require precision of the mouse together with quick and accurate movements. Slamming the marble against the wall will make it bounce around like crazy and reduce the speed which takes a while to recover. If you take too much time, the door will close or obstacles pop up and render the level impossible to solve; the only way then is to restart it. Because of this, some tend to grab the mouse tightly to ensure precision, leading to RSI. Is it notable enough to be included in the article? --Bruin_rrss23 (talk) 13:54, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You'd need to cite a source for "some tend to grab the mouse tightly to ensure precision". Incidentally, I wouldn't have thought that holding the mouse tightly increased precision - it would seem more likely to make your movements jerky. --Safalra 20:29, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, I never thought about citing a source for that; sometimes I get carried away. It's personal experience and possibly others who're trying to make records. I just played the Advanced Tutorial of Enigma and only managed 9:07, while par is 8:35. My right wrist was aching after playing through. Meanwhile, this information can just be be in the talk page. When a reliable source comes up, then it can be placed into the article. --Bruin_rrss23 (talk) 07:32, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Weird but true. I played the Advanced Tutorial again and managed 8:49, just 3 seconds under PAR (The PAR's changed to 8:52; it varies with time). My wrist was aching at the time I clicked "edit"; the "RSI" I mentioned above could be the build up of lactic acid from holding the mouse too tightly. Also, I think that some optical mouses have the inherent problem of the cursor going to a corner wildly. A huge risk when going along a path of Lethal Stones: if it happens and you're on your last ball, BAM. You'll have to repeat the whole level. However, the mouse problem is off-topic but it could get a mention in the article. --Bruin_rrss23 (talk) 12:00, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not to be confused with Enigma, a CURSES game akin to XOR - Yura87 (talk) 10:10, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

[edit]

Enigma was created by an unknown author and was a text-based clone of the XOR game. See XOR (video game) for a link to an implementation of XOR/Enigma engines, including an actual CURSES frontend for playing Enigma/XOR, as well as Chroma's own levels.
