CNN isn't independent as it is co-authored by a member of the org, but I see no issue with the other source, and the URL being redirected doesn't hurt. Proposed revision to the introduction

Dream.org is a non-profit founded by American social change entrepreneur Van Jones^[1] that aims to “close prison doors and open doors of opportunity,”^[2]^[3] specifically by finding common ground on mass incarceration, climate change, and economic inequality. Previously known as The Dream Corps, it has three primary programs – TECH, JUSTICE, and GREEN FOR ALL – each of which were once standalone organizations^[4]^[5]Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page).^[6]^[7]^[8]. I think this proposed lead may be too colorful for an encyclopedia. It leans too heavily on quotes, qualifiers ("social change entrepreneur" reads as unnecessary, simply "entrepreneur" would suffice), and the uppercase programs don't add much to the article. The point of the lead is to summarize the article and present the topic, which the current lead does just fine. This proposal strays too close to WP:NPOV, possibly even promotion, as it is.
