Move

[edit]

Biligiri and Ranga are separate words. Rangana or Rangan means Ranga's in Kannada. So it would be appropritate to move it to Biligiri Ranga Hills or Biligiri Rangan Hills or Biligiri Rangana Hills. Having space after Biligiri is important. Crashed greek (talk) 04:22, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If we were to go by the policy at WP:AT the commonest usage in English on Google Scholar is Biligirirangan Hills - 18400; Biligirirangana Hills - 108; Biligiriranga Hills - 2. Shyamal (talk) 02:59, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Then we can move it to Biligiri Rangan Hills or Biligiri Ranga Hills. Crashed greek (talk) 04:03, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The English name follows the local tradition of concatenation - there is no pause when it is spoken (but I suppose you knew that) - it is only a colloquial abbreviation that splits it to BR Hills. There was an editor who seemed to have moved it to the "ranga" ending as some sort of reaction to "rangan" which was perhaps perceived as a Tamilization of a supposedly "purely" Kannada-origin name. The ending "rangana" is genitive - ie, the native version ಬಿಳಿಗಿರಿರಂಗನ ಬೆಟ್ಟ would mean "The hills of white-hill-Ranga". Shyamal (talk) 03:45, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong oppose: The nom has not correctly justified their reason for this RM. No references provided either. Just the reasons that Biligiri and Ranga are separate words and Having space after Biligiri is important are not valid reasons for moving the title.  LeoFrank  Talk 02:11, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The widely used abbreviation BR hills is because the words Biligiri and Ranga are separate words. That would settle most widely used word point raised by User:Shyamal, I am ok to move it to BR Hills too. Crashed greek (talk) 04:39, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
