The planned presidential transition of Kamala Harris is the contingently planned presidential transition from the President of the United States Joe Biden to Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party's nominee for president in the 2024 United States presidential election, under the Presidential Transition Act of 2019, and the Electoral Count Reform and Presidential Transition Improvement Act of 2022. Under current U.S. law, such a transition will only occur in the event Harris is elected president.
The transition would be a "friendly takeover", in which the outgoing president and the would-be incoming president are of the same political party.
Harris has become the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party for president in July 2024, following Biden's withdrawal, and formally accepted the nomination the following August. Harris filed paperwork on August 19, 2024, to begin planning for a potential presidential transition.[1]
Harris's transition team is chaired by US Ambassador to ASEAN Yohannes Abraham,[2][3] which also chaired the successful Presidential transition of Joe Biden in 2020. Law firm Covington & Burling, which assisted Harris in vetting her vice presidential pick, will provide legal counsel to the transition organization.[4]

- August 6, 2024: Official roll call selects Harris as the Democratic nominee.[6]
