Kenneth Stevenson (born 1963/1964[1]) is a Scottish politician serving as Member of Parliament (MP) for Airdrie and Shotts since 2024. A member of the Labour Party, he has been a Member of North Lanarkshire Council since 2017.

Early life and career[edit]

Stevenson studied engineering at Calderhead High School in Shotts from 1975 to 1980.[2] He received an Open Batchelor of Science from the Open University.[2]

Stevenson has worked as an engineer at BAE Systems, Hyster, Machine Control Engineers, and Terex.[1] He has been an engineering lecturer since 2006, initally at Anniesland College and later Glasgow Clyde College following a merger.[1]

Political career[edit]

Stevenson was elected as a Member of North Lanarkshire Council for Fortissat in 2017 and re-elected in 2022.[3] He was elected in the 6th stage on both occasions. As a councillor, Stevenson served as convener of the Communities Committee and Community Safety Partnership Forum from 2022 to 2024.[4]

Stevenson was elected as MP for Airdrie and Shotts at the 2024 general election, defeating incumbent SNP candidate Anum Qaisar.[5] He had previously contested the 2021 by-election for the same constituency, in which he came second to Qaisar.[6] During Labour's candidate selection for both elections, Stevenson had beaten the constituency's former MP, Pamela Nash.[7][8]
