On 8 November 2023, it was proposed that this page be moved to WP:WikiProject Texas/Dallas-Fort Worth. The result of the discussion was moved to Wikipedia:WikiProject Texas/Dallas–Fort Worth task force. |
This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none
parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

WP Texas merger proposal
[edit]I have proposed a merger for all of the WikiProject Texas subprojects: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Council#Merger_proposal . Oldsanfelipe2 (talk) 17:47, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- NOTE, this was archived at WT:WikiProject_Council/Archive_24#Merger proposal in 2020; with general support -- 65.92.247.90 (talk) 22:10, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
Switched off inactive group notification
[edit]So looks like there's at least a bit of recent activity on the talk page. I had no idea about this project and just found out when I was super confused and perplexed why there isn't a broader Texas project. I'm going to work to review some of the unassesed articles. Any other ideas on things that need to be freshened up or need help? Sulfurboy (talk) 20:08, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
- Ignore the no Texas comment, guess it wasn't showing up in Rater due to it being considered only semi-acitve. Sulfurboy (talk) 20:12, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
Update to peer review page
[edit]Hi all, I've boldly updated your project's peer review page (Wikipedia:WikiProject Dallas-Fort Worth/Peer review) by updating the instructions and archiving old reviews.
The new instructions use Wikipedia's general peer review process (WP:PR) to list peer reviews. Your project's reviews are still able to be listed on your local page too.
The benefits of this change is that review requests will get seen by a wider audience and are likely to be attended to in a more timely way (many WikiProject peer reviews remain unanswered after years). The Wikipedia peer review process is also more maintained than most WikiProjects, and this may help save time for your active members.
I've done this boldly as it seems your peer review page is pretty inactive and I am working through around 90 such similar peer review pages. Please feel free to discuss below - please ping me ({{u|Tom (LT)}}) in your response.
Cheers and hope you are well, Tom (LT) (talk) 23:26, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources
[edit]I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Wikipedia:WikiProject Dallas-Fort Worth → Wikipedia:WikiProject Texas/Dallas-Fort Worth – Merge this inactive task force into its state's project as a taskforce; matching the location of WP:WikiProject Texas/San Antonio. Much like how WP:WikiProject Los Angeles is a task force of WP:WikiProject California. Task force conversion, like how other inactive wikiprojects have been converted into taskforces of wikiprojects of a superset topic. This wikiproject has been inactive-status for a year[1] -- this would implement the supported proposal from 2020. -- 65.92.247.90 (talk) 22:27, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nomination. SnowFire (talk) 18:51, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: If this is moved to be a task force then the proper name (based on most task forces) is Wikipedia:WikiProject Texas/Dallas-Fort Worth task force. This can be seen by the same example given by the op which leads to Wikipedia:WikiProject California/Los Angeles area task force. Gonnym (talk) 19:07, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- Move to WP:WikiProject Texas/Dallas-Fort Worth task force per Gonnym. Anyway, the gist here is that we have too many moribund "micro-wikiprojects" and they need to merge to continue serving any purpose at all. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 21:12, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
