Assistance request for Yeonguijeong list
[edit]I'm currently trying to finish the unfinished (and erroneous) list on Yeonguijeong (the Chief State Councilor of the Joseon state) on User:00101984hjw/sandbox. However, the list is huge, with over 170 total individual officeholders serving over a period of almost 500 years. While any form of constructive edits or suggestions for improval will be greatly appreciated I'd like to ask help with these two things specifically:
1. Portraits. While very few royal portraits of Joseon-era monarchs (or historic Korean monarchs in general) exist to this day (many were lost in the 1954 Busan Yongdusan fires), apparently a lot of portraits of high-ranking officeholders and scholars still do exist. I'd really appreciate if someone could find portraits of any of these figures on the list who don't currently have a portrait on commons.
2. References & Dates. While primary sources (most notably the Veritable Records) detail on exact dates these figures were appointed and discharged from office these dates use a separate calendar system from Gregorian (see WP:JG and User:00101984hjw/Korean Calendar Conversion). While Namuwiki has Gregorian dates for most of these figures the website itself is a WP:UCG which should not be used as a cited source per WP:KO/RS. Therefore, if there are any secondary sources which provide exact Gregorian dates of any of these figures' date of appointment or resignation I'd be very grateful if anyone could find them. -- 00101984hjw (talk) 04:39, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- Update on date issue: it appears that (at least according to what I've researched for the past few days) that the lunisolar dates provided on the sillok.history.go.kr website use a consistent calendar which can be accurately converted into Gregorian using online converter tools (https://astro.kasi.re.kr/life/pageView/8). That being said I'll just go ahead and use the tools for date conversion for now. It provides both Julian and Gregorian. -- 00101984hjw (talk) 21:17, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
Please find and add sources to this stub. It's been unsourced for 15 years. Bearian (talk) 01:48, 13 January 2025 (UTC)

Julian/Gregorian discrepancies on the enwiki
[edit]It appears to me that when converting lunisolar dates, the kowiki prefers Julian over Gregorian. Because of this, most articles about Joseon-era (or older) events/figures are in Julian. In cases like Sejong the Great, discrepancies can be found within the article itself (i.e., currently, Sejong's article cite his date of birth in Gregorian while is date of death is in Julian).
The real problem here is, however, the inconsistency seen in Korean-language sources. For example, compare these two: [1], [2]. One cites lunisolar, and the other cites Julian date for his date of death/reign while both use Gregorian for his date of birth.
That being said, I strongly suggest that both dates are clarified on such articles, either using footnotes or {{OldStyleDate}}. I also believe this is something MOS:KO-CALENDAR should clarify on. If no one objects to this I will being making changes myself. -- 00101984hjw (talk) 05:37, 19 January 2025 (UTC)
