Mr. Bafna (I'll assume Sanjay is you first name),
1) I'll take care of that. It's easy, all you have to do is edit the page, but I'll take care of it.
2) All you have to do is add your name. There's no real process to it. I'll do that for you too.
3) Sorry, but can you make sure that all your edits follow the English grammar rules? I've seen some of the articles you've edited and the grammar isn't pretty. --queso man 23:01, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Naming Convention for various people
Hi,
I have following suggestion for Naming Convention for people related to Jainism:
- Name all the people by just first name, or full name where applicable.
- Use words such as Tirthankar, Kevali postfixed to wikipedia article name, to avoid ambiguation where necessary.
- Use names from Logass Sutra, as primary identifier. Which means Use Rishabh, in place of Adinath, and Vardhamana in place of Mahavir.
- In the article, use Lord for tirthankar. E.g. Lord Vardhamana. Use Kevali for all Siddha/Kevali. E.g. Kevali Bahubali. Archarya, Upadhyaya, Sadhu etc...
- For others who may not have been monk, and neither the top 5, identify if use of words such as Pandit, Guru be suitable.
- For articles on Ganadhar, use Ganadhar GanadharName.
Would look for peer comments. Chirag 00:16, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Good Idea. I will put this on the front page =) - Zhang Guo Lao 14:36, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
How do I join this Wikiproject
And what is its userbox template? I am a Jain and I am very interested in the Jain Dharma. I have made quite a few contributions to Jainism-related articles.

religioustolerance dot org
I came across over 700 links to this organization, Ontario Consultants on Religious Tolerance. The site has a ton of ads but on the other hand, it has content (and a Wikipedia article).
Normally, such an ad-intensive site with so many links gets attention at WikiProject Spam for further investigation. Even if it's not spam, many links may often get deleted as not meeting the external links guideline. I've left a note at WikiProject Spam asking others to look at some of these and see what they think.
Even some non-profit organizations will add dozens of links to Wikipedia since links in Wikipedia are heavily weighted in Google's page ranking systems. (If interested, see the article on Spamdexing for more on this).
You can see all the links by going to this this "Search web links" page. I encourage you to look at Wikipedia's external links guideline then look at the links in the articles you normally watch. Also, if you don't mind, please also weigh in at WikiProject Spam with your opinions. If you see links to pages that you don't think add additional value beyond the content already in an article, feel free to delete them, but please don't go mindlessly deleting dozens of links. (Per WP:EL, links that don't add additional value should be deleted but that doesn't necessarily mean they're "spam").
Thanks for your help and for providing some second opinions. --A. B. 17:01, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
The current organization there is abit muddled, and needs some discussing how to deal with. A general proposal for cleaning it up is posted at Category talk:Religious leaders#Organization proposal, and more input would be great. It doesn't address the issue of Religious leaders/religious workers/religious figures, but that is another issue that exists. Badbilltucker 21:57, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Animal shelter article
I have recently found text which states that the Jain community operates several thousand animal shelters in Asia, and have added a small section to the article to indicate as much. Regretably, the article still reflects a pronounced pro-Western bias, and a good deal more information about the Jain shelters of Asia is to my eyes called for. Specific information on number of animals worked with and such is still specifically and glaringly missing. Anyone who is in a position to contribute this information to the article and thus have it reflect a more balanced world view is more than welcome to do so. Thank you. Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 18:18, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
The group indicated above was recently revitalized for, among other things, the purpose of working on those articles whose content is such that the article does not fall within the scope of any particular denomination. To most effectively do this, however, we would benefit greatly if there were at least one member from this Project working on those articles. On that basis, I would encourage and welcome any member of this Project willing to work on those articles to join the Religion WikiProject. Thank you. Badbilltucker 22:44, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Use of swastika in Jainism articles.
For some reason, he posted at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Hinduism#Same problem with the swastika on Jainism articles rather than here. You may wish to read the discussion. --tjstrf talk 08:21, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- Tjstrf: Here I was about to post a similar post to you and what do I see, this! That was offensive to call it "whining" -- it's a discussion and debate, and many users have commented. You obviously miss the entire point of the discussion. IZAK 09:24, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- I would think that the better phrasing would be "an ill-informed, emotionally-charged knee-jerk reaction from someone who is personally clearly displaying the lack of sensitivity and awareness that he is himself complaining about," but, hey, what do I know? Badbilltucker 14:09, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- I think Jains should have the right to continue using their holy symbols. However, the problem is that many people know the swastika only as a nazi symbol. The average readers of wikipedia who have never heard of Jainism might too easily get the wrong idea when they see a template showing a swastika. They don't know that the symbol has been used peacefully for thousands of years before it was abused by the nazis. Therefore, I think it might be a good idea to replace the symbol on templates if another appropriate symbol is available. According to http://www.jcnc.org/jainism/intro_jainism.htm#_Toc22698625 "The comprehensive Jain symbol consists of a crescent of the moon, three dots, the Swastika or Om, the palm of a hand with the wheel (Chakra) inset, and an outline figure encompassing all symbols. Each individual symbol is also separately used in Jainism." I don't know whether or not this source is reliable, but if it is, maybe the swastika could be replaced by Om. Alternatively, maybe Image:Jainism_logo.png could be used on templates. --Danogo 12:14, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- The comments from that page indicate that the Jainism logo image and the swastika image are the official "logos" of Jainism. It actually doesn't mention the "aum" at all as being even tied to any of the more official symbols. Badbilltucker 16:02, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- You're right, I misinterpreted it. So please just ignore what I previously wrote. --Danogo 18:28, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Barnstar: Propose/vote
I suggest that we hold a competition for a barnstar to represent this WikiProject so that we can honor good contributors. We can vote, or, because there aren't many people here, we can somehow decide on a decent barnstar to give to tireless contributors.
I think it is an excellent idea. Even I was wondering why there was no barnstar for Jainism yet. But I did not give it a much thought. We need more dedicated and good contributors for this project. I think it is a good proposal to award barnstars to such people. --Anish Shah 05:10, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Qmwne235's proposal
Note: Unless people decide that it's actually worth something, my proposal isn't intended to be used, nor is it very good.
This is an example of a barnstar. I believe that there isn't a barnstar for Jainism yet. Here are some more barnstars if you need more ideas. Another idea I was considering was an Ahimsa symbol with a barnstar inside the circle instead of the traditional pattern.--queso man 22:57, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
Anishshah19's proposal
In response to queso man's proposal I have developed a prototype Barnstar for further feedback.
Site : http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Image:Barn_Star_Jainism.jpg --Anish Shah 15:02, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
I like it! But it would be better if there was some way to incorporate the traditional barnstar design
into it (maybe take out the star already there and add in the barnstar, but without a hole?). It's still way better than mine (the one above), though. --User:Qmwne235 19:43, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Oh and also, traditionally, barnstars have always been of a certain size (the size of the traditional barnstar at right). Try making your proposal that size, but it doesn't matter too much anyway. It's not the most important thing anyway, and it would render the writing illegible. --User:Qmwne235 19:46, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
I have modified it further to provide it traditional look of Barnstar. I think I have partly succeeded. I have doen it in word. Further sophisticated softwares like inkscape can make it better. --Anish Shah 15:02, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Even though that wasn't qute what I meant, it's looking a lot better. I would definitely vote for this one unless any other (better) proposals come within a week. It doesn't seem like anybody else will vote soon, so as of right now, that's two for you. I'll award the winner a Banrstar's Star (a personal user award). --Qmwne235 19:05, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks queso man. Check out this newer modified version of the previous barn star.
It seems very few people are intersted in Project Jainism
Nobody else seems to really care about the Jainism barnstar, so I would say that after a week you can put it up on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Awards page unless a more than two people vote otherwise in that duration of time. Plus, we can change our barnstar at any time. One suggestion I would make is to make 111 x 107 pixels (or slightly more or less for either of these) the size of the barnstar by a combination of shrinking and cropping so that it fits onto the page. --Qmwne235 20:39, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
I have uploaded a new prototype for Jainism Barnstar. I know quesoman would rather have a barnstar that adhers to the traditional looks. Just check it out. Maybe we can also add text to it.--Anish Shah 14:40, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
I like the new design. Now let's wait for some feedback, even though none will probably come. I like the new design better, but which of your designs do you prefer? --Qmwne235 14:01, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme
As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.
- The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
- The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
- A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.
Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.
Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Jainism
Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.
We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.
A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.
We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Coordinators' working group
Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.
All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 05:43, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Request for comment on Biographies of living people
Hello Wikiproject! Currently there is a discussion which will decide whether wikipedia will delete 49,000 articles about a living person without references, here:
Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people
Since biographies of living people covers so many topics, many wikiproject topics will be effected.
The two opposing positions which have the most support is:
- supports the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, User:Jehochman
- opposes the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, except in limited circumstances, User:Collect
Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that by default, editor's comments are hidden. Simply press edit next to the section to add your comment.
Please keep in mind that at this point, it seems that editors support deleting unreferenced BLP articles if they are not sourced, so your project may want to source these articles as soon as possible. See the next, message, which may help.

Jainism articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release
Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.
We would like to ask you to review the Jainism articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.
We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Jainism needs its own Infobox Templates
Jainism doesn't have any infobox templates at http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Category:Religion_and_belief_infobox_templates. We can create one for a Jain Temple on the lines of Template:Infobox_Buddhist_temple or Template:Infobox_Hindu_Temple. We can also create one for a Jain Monk and a Jain Leader. Jain leaders would be for people like the Bhattarakas or people like Virchand Gandhi.
The colour scheme already in use for Template:Jain_Agamas can be used.--Aayush18 (talk) 15:05, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Proposed MOS for Religion
There is now a proposed general Manual of Style for Religion and other articles relating to ethoses or belief systems at Wikipedia:WikiProject Religion/Manual of style. Any input would be welcome. I personally believe at least one of the reasons why many articles in this field have been as contentious as they have been is because of lack of such guidelines, and would very much welcome any input from others to help come up with some generally acceptable solutions to some of these problems. John Carter (talk) 21:59, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Problem with the article on India
The article on India currently mentions Jainism as a reform movement. The wording that is used is this- The emerging urbanisation and the orthodoxies of this age also created the religious reform movements of Buddhism and Jainism, both of which became independent religions.
I changed the wording so as to reflect the fact that Jainism was not a reform movement, but a continuation of the Shramana tradition. Here is the wording that I had introduced- The emerging urbanisation and the orthodoxies of this age also led to the resurgence of ancient Shramanic traditions of Buddhism and Jainism, both of which were independent religions.
My edit was reverted by an editor (Fowler&Fowler) and I was pointed to this archived discussion- Talk:India/Archive_36#Buddha_-_India.27s_first_historical_figure. This discussion was about the historicity of the Buddha, Mahavira and Parshva. It discussed who came first and whatnot.
In my edit, I did not concern myself with the historicity of any of those people. I was only trying to make it clear that Jainism was not a reform movement. Surely, the Shramana tradition of India is a well documented fact and I assume it can be found in a number of reliable sources? But I believe the editor misread my edit as an attempt to change the historicity of those people, while in fact I was pointing to the continuation of the Shramana traditions.
I did not want to approach this without reliable sources on the Shramana tradition. So I did not revert his edits as I wanted to seek the opinion of other editors here on how to go about this.--Aayush18 (talk) 07:03, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

- I think having a list of the DYKs would be useful for the portal, as it would provide at least one set of articles other than those included in the portal's main article sections, which can be used and included in the portal in the DYK section. Also, honestly, in general, I tend to think that it is just a good idea for any project to boast a little about all of its achievements, including DYKs. List of articles in at least one other reference source
I have started a page at Wikipedia:WikiProject Jainism/Encyclopedic articles listing the articles found in one print reference work on the topic of Jainism, as well as the relative length of those articles. Some time ago (2007), the article Dharmic religion was deleted after this deletion discussion and redirected to Indian religions. Category:Dharmic religions was deleted in 2008 after this deletion discussion. There is currently a deletion discussion about the final remnant category of these POV forks, Category:Dharmic writers. Attention may also need to be paid to {{Modern Dharmic writers}}, which contains such occultists as Helena Blavatsky. This all seems rather ill-defined and not source based. Please consider participating in this discussion. Thank you. Yworo (talk) 17:09, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

Jainism: Peer review
I have listed Jainism for peer review. If anyone is interested, please leave comments at Wikipedia:Peer_review/Jainism/archive4. Thanks, Rahul Jain (talk) 16:50, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
I know the above linked to article isn't a topic that immediately comes up when one is thinking of Jainism, but I saw it on the WP:NPOVN and someone else indicated there that the article as it now stands would merit more material regarding other parts of the world. I remember reading somewhere that the Jains are known for their endeavors in this area, and I hope that, if someone here has access to reliable sources about Jain involvement in this area, that they consider adding some material to the above article, to help it in trying to give it a global perspective. - Hello John, thank you for bringing this up. Actually, animal shelters is something that immediately comes to mind when one is thinking about Jainism. I've added the appropriate section on India and about Jainism- Animal shelter#India.--Aayush18 (talk) 18:37, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Request for input in discussion forum
Given the closely linked subjects of the various religion, mythology, and philosophy groups, it seems to me that we might benefit from having some sort of regular topical discussion forum to discuss the relevant content. I have put together the beginnings of an outline for such discussion at Wikipedia:WikiProject Religion/2011 meeting, and would very much appreciate the input of any interested editors. I am thinking that it might run over two months, the first of which would be to bring forward and discuss the current state of the content, and the second for perhaps some more focused discussion on what, if any, specific efforts might be taken in the near future. Any and all input is more than welcome. John Carter (talk)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none
parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.
Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.
Thanks. — Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 09:17, 15 March, 2009 (UTC)

Jain Law
Based on User:जैन's article on Champat Rai Jain, I felt we needed an article on Jain Law, which I have now created. There is a wealth of material available online on this subject. I request the editors of this group to contribute to this article.--Aayush18 (talk) 03:49, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
- Good idea, but there 2 types(or can be called as panths) of jain's 1. Digambar Jain 2. Swetambar Jain. If you are a Jain you must be knowing it but just to inform you that! Both the panths(or types) don't have the same laws, like I am Digambar. Otherwise if you're a Jain you can consult any Jain saint or Muni maharaj and then take this article ahead!BOTFIGHTER (talk) 09:38, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'm a Jain. The 2 sects of Jainism have the same laws as far as legal matters (inheritance, marriage, adoption etc.) are concerned. This article is not about the religious conduct of ascetics or lay people. Additionally, I prefer that on Wikipedia, we should have all Jainism related articles with a non-sectarian layout. There is a tendency within every religion to amplify small sectarian differences, but for an outside person, those differences are of no value.--Aayush18 (talk) 15:08, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
Input on merge requested
A recent TfD concluded that {{Infobox Jain deity}} should be merged into {{Infobox deity}}, with some parameters not being carried over if they contain details not important to a general audience. A discussion is being held at Template talk:Infobox deity as to what parameters should be pruned and how this merge should be conducted. Your input would be helpful. ~ RobTalk 07:33, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

Popular pages report
We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Jainism/Archive 1/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Jainism.
We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:
- The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
- The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
- The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).
We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Jainism, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.
Warm regards, the Community Tech Team 17:15, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.
If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.
If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.
Thank you. — The Transhumanist 07:43, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
A new newsletter directory is out!
A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Non-translatables
Every language encodes within it a unique culture and a world view. This site being an English site, our questions and answers are in English. But certain words lose meaning when translated to English. Example: Arihant vs God vs Deva. By using these English words we distorting the actual meaning of these words and the philosophy behind them. We should use the actual sanskrit word instead of using it's English (mis)translation. Refer this document for many Sanskrit non-translatables. http://rajivmalhotra.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/SanskritNonTranslatables.pdf KUNALKUMARJAIN1986 (talk) 09:34, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
RfC on ecclesiastical titles
There is a proposal for a new subsection on ecclesiastical titles being conducted at MOS:BIO. Interested editors are encouraged to participate. Proposed changes to Template:Yoga
I'm proposing extensive changes to the Yoga navbox, including adding some acknowledgement of the Jain tradition of yoga (described by articles such as Jain meditation) as this is presently absent from the navbox. I would appreciate the input of those interested in WikiProject Jainism and the subject of yoga in Jainism.
Please discuss the changes at this link; discussion elsewhere may be missed:
Template_talk:Yoga#Proposed_partial_reorganisation
Explanations for my proposed changes are listed at the discussion page linked above along with a draft which I will update as the discussion proceeds. Scyrme (talk) 21:19, 26 June 2021 (UTC)
User script to detect unreliable sources
I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.
