Possigee

Just moved this out of userspace: Draft:Possigee. The article has no sources but some could possibly be found, for example [1]. Perhaps someone here is interested? — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 21:01, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

I have seen this term in the names of some Ghanaian people such as Lesley Opoku Ware, described in the lead and some sources as Oheneba Dr. Lesley Akya Opoku Ware, so it's evidently not a standard kind of a name (as it is put before "Dr."). What does it mean, and perhaps if appropriate could someone add a mention of it to a relevant article and make a redirect? A not-very-reliable-looking source suggests it might mean "prince" or "princess"? Is that so? PamD 13:37, 13 October 2021 (UTC)

@PamD, Oheneba means "prince" or "princess" in Twi or Akan, that is the direct translation. I believe it is acceptable as it as being used in the redirect page Oheneba Dr. Lesley Opoku Ware. It can be put before "Dr." Aside from it meaning "prince" or "princess", it is also a first name for people in Ghana, just like people naming their children Prince or Princess. Ampimd (talk) 00:17, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
@Ampimd: Thanks: it would be helpful if you or someone else with the sources would create a well-referenced article, or a section within another article, to explain this. Is it given automatically to every daughter of the king? Grand-daughters? How many people currently have the title? Etc. See Princess for ideas. Thanks. PamD 05:33, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

User Brillo keeps deleting large edits from Ghanaian Wikipedia pages

The editor Brllo has deleted large amounts of information from pages under the auspices of this Wiki project such as the Ghana page. Some of his deletions conform to wiki's rules but others were deleted because he does not see them fit. I am presenting this editor for further supervision by the members of the WikiProject.Kwesi Yema (talk) 09:05, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

Historic personnality statue - in need of picture in Commons

Hello !

I'm a french wikipedian and i'm working on lot of ghanean topics. For example, i did a huge work about Osei Tutu (french wikipedia link), and i'm always in lack of good illustration. I know there are statue of historic personnality in Ghana. For example, (O)komfo Anokye has a representative statue in Kumasi.

Thus, if you live in Ghana and you have the opportunity to take a picture of these representations, could you put them on Commons ?

Btw, if you want to improve ghana topics, i did something like 10 labeled "good article" in french and expanded small article. Do not hesitate to use the traduction tool.

Few example :

Osei Tutu I (soon GA), Amma Sewaa (Asantehemaa), Adoma Akosua (GA - Asantehemaa), Atakpamé Battle (Ashanti vs Oyo / Dahomey), Kwadwo Egyir (GA - also known as Caboceer Kudjo, influent chief of Cape Coast), Philip Quaque (GA - first anglican african priest), John Canoe (GA - Chief / king of ahanta - i loved working on this one, crazy story), Belanda Hitam (GA - freed slave from Gold Coast made soldier for the dutch indies), Badu Bonsu II (GA - beheaded king of ahanta, crazy rediscovery), Butre Treaty (expanded from the english GA) ClementNanoyo (talk) 06:37, 22 August 2023 (UTC)

Women in Green's 5th Edit-a-thon

Hello WikiProject Ghana:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

Starting this July, we will see a new contest on the scene - the Developing Countries WikiContest (WP:DCWC)! Think of it as a WikiCup but only for articles and media on developing countries.

Competitors may submit GAs, GTs, FAs, FTs, FLs, FPs, and DYK and ITN entries from/on developing countries to gain points and proceed to further rounds. Points are also awarded to those who review GAs, FAs and FLs.

Ghana is listed as a developing country for the purposes of this contest, so articles related to it are eligible to be submitted for points. I encourage everyone here to sign up and compete with editors from around the world to create high-quality content!

Append your name to the DCWC signup page today!

Best wishes, Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI (talk to me!/my edits) 11:04, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Would love to see more editors participating in this challenge and seeing more entries coming in from Ghana on a diversity of topics! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:37, 18 June 2024 (UTC)

Would people be interested in joining a wikiproject on improving and creating articles about oral tradition? Wikipedia's coverage on this appears to be very poor Kowal2701 (talk) 19:08, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
