Redirection from fictional character NOT to a list
Following a back-and-forth here in the last couple of days I went hunting and found this. Which leaves open the question: what should we do with redirects from fictional characters that AREN'T to lists of characters, short of User:Cbbkr's solution of tagging it with a non-redirect category (and, by the way, should article categories be used on redirects? I don't know the answer to that). —Largo Plazo (talk) 22:54, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

, I believe WT:Categorizing redirects#When not to categorize a redirect (which I also started) recommends against it. Of course, nothing is strictly prohibited. --SoledadKabocha (talk) 22:45, 19 November 2013 (UTC)- Personally, I don't think that categories should be used on redirects, as it just clogs up search lists with links that are not actual articles. If a subject is not notable enough to have its own article, then it is also not notable enough for categorization. I do believe that templates such as {{R from character}} or {{R from merge}} should be used, if a character is merged into a list or some other article, but otherwise redirects are just tools to find information on Wikipedia. And most wikiprojects have a Redirect-class, which can be added to the redirect's talk page if a project wants to keep track of it for future use. Fortdj33 (talk) 01:11, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- Many fictional character names are WP:REDIRECTs and I feel sure that many of the targets are book articles and author (writer/illustrator/etc) biographies. It seems reasonable to use the redirected redirect template {{R from character}} where the target is not a list or list entry, and {{CharR to list entry}} where it is. Unfortunately it seems to me wildly unlikely that that has been done consistently in the past. Furthermore, I presume that many redirects of fictional characters carry more general and/or misleading redirect templates when their targets are book articles and biographies --because their editors have taken seriously the literal misfit of {CharR to list entry}. So the tags don't function as they should for our purposes--eg, WP:FICTCHAR editors finding pages about fict. char.--which are the only purposes of redirect templates.
- So it's a real problem. What is to be done?
- Many redirects do or should carry category lists. That matter is not related, afaik.

Delete or Merge Blake's 7 characters
I dunno if Blake's 7 characters should be deleted or merged to the main Blake 7 articles characters such as Roj Blake and Jenna Stannis have little or no third person sources. I wonder should they be merged or deleted?Dwanyewest (talk) 20:22, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Blake's 7 planets for my thoughts. Because the !votes were 50/50, it closed as no-consensus.
- For the whole "Blake's 7" template, I think only 5 articles need to stay alive(including the main article).
- If they can be merged further, that would be great, but this is my suggestion. Blake (Talk·Edits) 21:22, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

Do these Chitty Chitty Bang characters need deletion
Baron Bomburst, Baroness Bomburst, Caractacus Pott need deletion as none of these articles don't have third person sources. Dwanyewest (talk) 22:02, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
- Is there a list of characters for this one? Seems that listifying stubs is the way to go where there are too many minor characters. Montanabw(talk) 00:00, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
RfC regarding Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (TV series) Merge Request
Anyone interested in participating on a discussion as to whether Twiki or Dr. Theopolis should be merged or not to Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (TV series) are welcome to help resolve this issue. Discuss this >>>HERE<<<. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 20:01, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
I don't know if its worth deleting these characters
I am in two minds of nominating these characters from Due South Stanley Kowalski (Due South) and Margaret Thatcher (Due South) for deletion and other characters as they either have no sources or rely on fan sites as third person sources. I am in two minds about it because if good sources can be found to maintain them as articles I would leave them well alone. But militant inclusionists will insist on keeping them but won't do anything to improve the article with sources. If you don't believe look at the likes of Dukes of Hazzards, Blake 7 or Dark Shadows. What does anyone else think? Dwanyewest (talk) 13:22, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- My thinking is pretty simple: Do you really want to delete thousands and thousands of articles off wiki, (e.g. List of Pokemon) many of which will probably get re-created anyway? No. I believe that listifying is good when relevant, and otherwise, the merge tag is a beautiful thing, creating way less "drahmah" than a RfD. I say slap on a merge tag to move them into the main article, then if no one screams in a week or two (a month if you want to be really safe), boldly do it. This also creates a redirect off of the individual article and preserves page history, something lost with an RfD. If someone does care (and only those who have the article on their watchlist are apt to care), then kindly encourage them to find better sources and improve the article, that usually provides enough motivation for anyone who isn't a troll. An RfD opens you up to the masses, whereas a merge only pings those who have an actual interest in the topic. (Or in merges, I suppose, but I've never had a drive-by troll pop up out of nowhere on a merge tag) Montanabw(talk) 20:10, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- It is very frustrating inclusionists can write characters articles with little or no reliable third person sources and when it asked they provide a source they get upset. It can lay for years unattended or no attempt to improve it and immediately when its challenged its screamed that its notable or what about other articles you only have to look at the debate with the Charlies Angels articles. Dwanyewest (talk) 08:52, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
- Well, I advise patience and must advise you keep in mind that "years" ago (like when I started), the requirements for sourcing were far less rigorously enforced. And I know there's old stuff (not in this genre) I've worked on that has sat around for years - I only have close to 4000 articles on my watchlist, so yeah, squeaky wheel gets the grease. My own personal view is that "deletionists" are lazy, they can't be bothered to improve an article nor will they just propose a merge, but instead they like to tag and run, creating a lot of work for other people. As a content creator (check my user page for the list) I find it frustrating to be distracted from more important projects to deal with, oh, systemic bias in Pokemon or something. I source even my stubs better now than I did in 2006, (elike hindgut fermentation, one of my DYKs, LOL) but that doesn't mean something created then - with minimal sourcing - wasn't notable; it's just not necessarily up to today's sourcing standards. Montanabw(talk) 06:28, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
Don't give me that nonsense I worked on lots of Masters of the Universe of the Universe character articles, Crocodile Dundee various Charles Dickens characters, Friends and Frasier and Cheers characters and you check the edits if you don't believe me Montanabw.
I have probably added more sources in one day to some of those articles than some inclusionists would ever bother to do.
I actually like reading wiki character articles what I won't tolerate is lazily written fancruft that is unencyclopedic which inclusionists seem addicted to. I understand when Wikipedia was still new the rules may have been more lax but people seem to create articles at will and don't even wanna cite sources or do anything to show it notable and complain when people don't approve of it. If any article consists of plot summery and there seems to little in the way sources to show notability that seems to be a red flag to me.
Imagine having an obscure Baywatch character whose character page has one line summary and having people complaining that is notable and shouldn't be merged this is the inclusionist mentality they are lovers of mediocrity.
I don't claim to be perfect but if I create an article I do my BEST to ensure that it has sources to assert its notability unlike an inclusionist if someone tries to delete my article to me its a challenge to find better sources to insure that its not deleted rather than bitch and moan that my article is fine and give it time to improve and whilst doing nothing. If an article of mine does get deleted I take as a sign my article wasn't of a good enough quality or not notable enough otherwise it wouldn't have got nominated or deleted in the first place. Dwanyewest (talk) 20:26, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
- The problem is that yes, roughly 5-10 years ago, many character articles were created. There were 1000 transformers articles, 1000 gijoe articles, yet everybody moaned about the 400 Pokemon articlesnote: I'm pulling numbers out of the air. The Pokemon eventually got merged into the lists, yet there are still plenty of series to this day that still hold large amounts of poor quality character articles. I was involved in the reviving of the ~100 Pokemon back in around 2010. We got good sources on most of them, and a few are of really good quality. However, looking back, we noticed that some of the prose we wrote for the sources was extremely weak, so probably close to half articles need to be merged again.
- Not sure what I'm getting at here, but yeah, a large group of Wikipedians are lazy as a whole. The kind that just go around AfD tagging without thought of improvement, or the kind that "vote" keep in discussions, but never give good improvement ideas either. Unless the actual content creators speak up and improve articles, inclusionists/deletionists don't really matter in the grand scheme of things. Whether a terrible article gets kept or deleted, it doesn't matter either way unless somebody wants to make the article better. I would rather bad articles be deleted/merged, and good articles kept. Blake (Talk·Edits) 16:30, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
- Good points, Blake, and labels like "deletionist/inclusionist" really don't help much, do they? My humble opinion is that the merge tag and creation of solid list articles is a beautiful thing and much preferred over tagging stuff for deletion; fixing it beats dumping it. I don't like a lot of stubs or content forking, but the other problem with deletion tagging is that those of us who DO work on content (I'm now over 55K edits, 183 articles created, several dozen DYK/GA/FAs, etc...) usually have a lot of irons in the fire and it's difficulty to churn up a lot of enthusiasm for yet more work. If people would do the fixes instead of just tagging stuff, I'd sure be glad to see more worker bees. Montanabw(talk) 23:35, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

What about the rest of the Charlies Angels characters?
Since some of the Charlie's Angels articles have been deleted what do we do aboutKelly Garrett, Julie Rogers (Charlie's Angels), Tiffany Welles. These articles I believe should be merged or deleted none of these articles have independent sources which are reliable. The sources are either fansites or dead links. Dwanyewest (talk) 21:05, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- I'd redirect them to Charlie's Angels#Cast. It doesn't look like much of anything really needs to be merged. If there is any actual real world information, it probably wouldn't take up too much space in the main article anyway. TTN (talk) 21:28, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
I don't know how to merge properly because the last time I tried to do was a disaster, even if I did know how to I would like a broad consensus of what to do with them so no inclusionist crybabies would complain. I would rather an overwhelming agreement one way or another on what is the best course of action EVEN if I don't agree with it. Dwanyewest (talk) 21:40, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- If material is basically duplicative, a "merge" is basically making a redirect. If the material is sourced to a RS, then a copy and paste can work. I'm kind of a fan of creating annotated list articles for these so that then don't clutter the main article. My thinking is 1. Create the list, 2. Populate the list, 3. Move and redirect the material to the list per BRD and 4. If anyone squawks, discuss in good faith. Montanabw(talk) 03:03, 11 January 2014 (UTC)

Richard Parker (shipwrecked)
The article Richard Parker (shipwrecked) is a list of three (non-living) people and two fictional characters named "Richard Parker" who were involved in (actual or fictional) shipwrecks. It cites five sources for particulars of the three real people, but there is nothing to suggest that these five figures are a notable group, outside of this article. This seems to run afoul of Wikipedia policies on original research via synthesis and notability. I am raising my concerns at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography and WikiProject Fictional characters, since its not clear who might have the clearest insight into these issues. Popular pages tool update
As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).
Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.
If you have any questions, want to report any bugs, or there are any features you would like to see that aren't currently available on the Toolserver tools, see the updated FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Mr.Z-bot (talk) (for Mr.Z-man) 05:05, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Because I'm curious: How contentious is the idea of this project using an importance scale?
Tezero (talk) 07:46, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- The problem with importance with relevance to "Fictional Characters" is that its a popularity contest mainly. See a very early discussion of importance ratings as they relate to the project. It can be done, but hardly subjectively. Blake (Talk·Edits) 15:54, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- Personally, I'm glad that this project discontinued the use of the importance scale. For some projects it can be useful, but I agree that for fictional characters, it would be highly subjective and completely arbitrary. Fortdj33 (talk) 00:37, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
- Huh. Seems like, in theory, it could have quite a consistent and objective importance scale (as far as those go, anyway), but per WP:SNOWBALL it's better if, in all practicality, it stays out. Tezero (talk) 04:39, 13 April 2014 (UTC)

- I am not sure.. a group of characters would be fine, but an "organization" just rings a different tone to me, and my gut feeling says no. As for moving the discussion, I think it is fine discussing it on Hydra's page, as long as this group was adequately notified. Blake (Talk·Edits) 04:01, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
FYI, a proposal that was rejected in April 2014, has been rerequested. The merger it was based on was also rejected in April, but it was also reimplemented without seeking a consensus to overturn the last one that rejected it. Leaflet For Wikiproject Fictional Characters At Wikimania 2014
Hi all,
My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.
One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.
This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:
• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film
• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.
• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.
• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____
• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost
For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Frequently disputed move request at Wolverine (character) with potentially wide repercussions
There is a discussion at Talk:Wolverine (character)#Page move back discussion, again concerning whether the page in question should be named Wolverine (character) or Wolverine (comics). This has long been a contentious issue—the page has been moved back and forth several times, and has had several discussions at both Talk:Wolverine (character) and Wikipedia:Naming conventions (comics). The outcome will likely have repercussions throughout WikiProject Comics, especially in light of the result of Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Comics#RfC: Proposed rewording for instructions for disambiguation.
There are also concerns regarding WP:CANVASSing for the discussion. Curly Turkey ⚞¡gobble!⚟ 02:23, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

Editing the Cheshire Cat page: Request for Guidance, Support
Hello, my name is Hannah and I am part of a Cornell University class project where we are hoping to edit and improve the Cheshire Cat page, dedicated to the fictional character from the Lewis Carroll novel and its several film adaptations. I see that the WikiProject Fictional Characters community is interested in this topic area, and I therefore wanted to reach out to you on behalf of my team to ask for help/advice. We are looking to add on to each of the page's existing sections to expand the cultural impact and cross-disciplinary influence of the icon, to give the page a general design overhaul (including charts, quotes, images, etc.), and to add a comparison of the different cinema representations of the character. Do you have any suggestions for articles or other sources we could use for our project? Or any suggestions at all for engaging in the editing process on Wikipedia?

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
WP:VG comments subpages cleanup
Hi, there is currently a discussion taking place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games#VG comments subpages regarding whether it would be acceptable to permanently shift all comments subpages associated with WP:VG articles into talk. This shift would follow the recommended approach given at WP:DCS. The WikiProject Fictional characters articles that would be affected by this action are these:
If you have objections related specifically to WikiProject Fictional characters' use of these subpages, please make this clear at the discussion so that other unrelated talk pages can be cleaned up where appropriate. Thank you. -Thibbs (talk) 15:55, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

I recently joined this project because I'm an avid reader and bookworm and my favorite part of the story has never been the plot but the characters. Thanks!!!(PythonessofDelphi🐍 (talk) 18:48, 15 March 2015 (UTC))
- The most important point to remember is that all articles on fictional characters should be written from a real world point of view. A character's role in a novel/film/television series should be explained in context, and not rely too much on in-universe minutaie. (The in-universe perspective is more suited to external wikis). Information on the development of the character should also be included to prove notablity and cited to a reliable source. It is also useful to include information on how the character has been recieved by critics, the media, and the public.
- For Writing about fiction wp:WAF gives many pointers. You might also want to check out some of the exemplary articles on the project page. If you see an article you think you can improve the best approach is just to be bold and start editing. Any other questions ask away! Eshlare (talk) 13:38, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

A new copy-paste detection bot is now in general use on English Wikipedia. Come check it out at the EranBot reporting page. Please take 15 seconds to visit the EranBot reporting page and check a few of the flagged concerns. Comments welcome regarding potential improvements. Disney characters
Can we come to a consensus, on a consistent way to disambiguate articles about Disney characters? Right now there are four different methods being used. For example, from Bambi, we have both Bambi (character) and Thumper (Bambi). From The Little Mermaid, we have both Ariel (Disney character) and Sebastian (Disney). Sometimes additional disambiguation is needed, when a character and movie of the same name have separate articles, such as Aladdin (Disney film) and Aladdin (Disney character). But by default, should we be using "NAME (character)", "NAME (Name of movie)", "NAME (Disney), or "NAME (Disney character)"? Fortdj33 (talk) 13:32, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
- I'd generally prefer (character), (<movie>) or (Disney) over (Disney character) -- the simpler the better, bar the odd exception. Though Disney character might give some more consistency. I'll note that Ariel seems to have been moved from Ariel (The Little Mermaid) yesterday -- as were a lot of articles, looking at it.
- As to between the movie and Disney, I'm not sure. It might be worth being more specific and I don't know if there are Disney characters that would be better recognized from the franchise -- e.g. I wouldn't disambiguate any new Star Wars characters with Disney, for an extreme example. But then, a lot of the animated characters make lots of appearances elsewhere in Disney stuff, so it's probably appropriate. Plus, Cinderella, Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, they all share their franchise names with broader stories, so they'll end up with Disney likely anyway, and consistency.
- Leaning in general towards going with (Disney). – The Millionth One (talk) (contribs) 14:07, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

The article Maggie Barnes (Dallas) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- WP:N - no mention of notability; nonnotable secondary TV soap opera character
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 76.65.128.43 (talk)

WP:Common name and fictional characters solely or mostly known by their first names
I started a WP:RfC that is stunted, presumably due to the bickering and WP:Too long; didn't read nature of it. It concerns fictional characters that are primarily known by their first names (or rather solely known by their first names to the general public). In cases such as these, is it best to go with the official full names or with the sole name and a disambiguation to assist it (if the disambiguation is needed), such as in the case of Faith (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)? In the case of Faith, she is primarily known simply by that first name, and it was only years later that her last name was revealed and used for subsequent material. It's a similar matter for The Walking Dead characters at the center of of the WP:RfC I started; see Talk:Sasha Williams (The Walking Dead)#Requested move discussion. And in some cases, their last names are only revealed in the comics or in the television series, meaning that the last names may be known in one medium but not in the another, and that the only way that readers would know the last name is if they Googled it or heard it on television via an interview. So we are commonly left with this and this type of wording that is commonly altered or removed. And since general readers do not know the full names, they won't be typing the full names into the Wikipedia search bar. So if The Walking Dead character articles are to have their full names in the titles of their articles, what does that mean for character articles like Faith (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)? WP:CRITERIA states, "Consistency – The title is consistent with the pattern of similar articles' titles."
I ask that you consider commenting in the Talk:Sasha Williams (The Walking Dead)#Requested move discussion to help resolve this. Flyer22 (talk) 17:07, 29 September 2015 (UTC)
Nellie Oleson
Nellie Oleson appears to be almost entirely original research, but I'm not sure how WP:OR applies to articles about ficitonal characters. A big problem appears to be that the bulk of the article is based on the unsourced premise in the Nellie Owens section that says, "Nellie Owens, and possibly two other girls, are the basis for the fictional Nellie Oleson.
" Basing a large portion of an article's content on an unsourced possibility seems very problematic. Hopefully, editors with a lot more knowledge than me on this matter can take a look at the article and edit it accordingly. I made a couple edits I felt were non-contentious, but have left it at that for now. Czoal (talk) 21:43, 8 October 2015 (UTC)
- I rearranged material slightly between section 1 (historical Nellie Owens), the meagre lead, and section 4.1 (Fictional Nellie: Little House books); expanded the latter from our Little House book articles and library catalog records.
- The Italian language it:Nellie Oleson is more like what I have learned to expect from such characters --less Nellie Owen and other pre-Ingalls Wilder history, more Alison Arngrim and post-Ingalls Wilder screen adaptation. It does provide five English-language formal references. (I'll post much the same at Talk:Nellie Oleson.)

Antagonists by role
Category:Antagonists by role is currently tagged as a container (subcats only), but has several articles directly included, violating the container tag. It seems to me to be a valid use of the container tag, and I was interested in adding a subcategory for the pages there. I see that in years gone by, there were categories like Category:Fictional villains which were deleted by consensus, so wanted to bring it up here. The only idea I've come up with is something like 'Villainous antagonists', since all the pages directly categorized there seem to refer to the term 'villain'... Slivicon (talk) 16:06, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
- The seven subcategories are of three kinds, [1] lists; [2a-b] antags distinguished by 2 roles [which alone strictly fit the category name, not important IMO], namely henchmen and tricksters; [3a-d] antags distinguished by 4 genres, granting that comic strip heroes/villains and superheroes/villains are distinguished thus. There may be scope for another genre, professional wrestling villains, granting that they are properly fictional (which I doubt but concede ignorance).
- The articles that remain undiffused in category "Antagonists by role" do not seem to me candidates for diffusion anywhere. They are main articles or sub-main articles rather than articles about particular antagonists. Each of the two role subcategories contains a main article, henchman and trickster, as does one of the four genre subcategories, supervillain. Otherwise the subcategories are full of articles about particular antagonists.
- It seems to me a poor use of the container tag. Diffusion should be encouraged, no more, perhaps with preface explaining the difference between villain articles and general articles about villains. --P64 (talk) 00:54, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

What is the appropriate amount of detailed plot summary information in "List of characters ..." articles
An RfC was just completed on the appropriate amount of detailed plot summary information in "List of characters ..." articles. The RfC is archived here: RfC: Appropriate detail of plot summary information.
Two things make this of interest to this Wikiproject:
- Could really use some additional eyes on the implementation of the RfC consensus, for that one single List of characters ... article. There have been some long-running disagreements between some existing editors who've commented on that Talk page, and new/additional eyes could be helpful in bringing good faith resolution to improve Wikipedia with a minimum of editor drama. In the first 24 hours following the consensus from the RfC, those issues are once again back in the forefront on that particular Talk page. A wider perspective would be very helpful.
- The issues reflected in that RfC that dealt with one specific article—an absurdly large amount of detailed plot summary arcana added to the article pages re fictional characters that are entirely supported by primary sources—are widespread. I would like to see this project think a bit on how to address the wider problem. I'd be happy to be a part of any solution, and am actively looking for other editors who might be similarly willing to look at how we might do this to improve the articles on fictional characters in accord with Wikipedia policy.

Character article up for deletion
I'm here from WP:RRTF, just letting you know that an article under both of our scopes, Carter Kane, is up for deletion. A discussion is in progress here. -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 21:58, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Chad Harris-Crane - featured article candidate
I've nominated the article about the episode Chad Harris-Crane for Featured Article consideration. This article is about a fictional character on the American soap opera Passions. The character made daytime television and soap opera history for participating in the first instance in a soap opera of two men simulating sex, and has also been cited as expanding the representation of LGBT characters of color on daytime television.
Comments would be appreciated, at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Chad Harris-Crane/archive1. Thank you for your time. Aoba47 (talk) 01:37, 10 September 2016 (UTC)
"Mega-villain" vandal
A user is currently using multiple IPs to vandalise superhero and supervillain articles by replacing the word "superhero" or "supervillain" with "megahero" or "megavillain". Keep an eye out for this vandalism. I am currently gathering a list of this user's IP addresses for a sock puppet investigation. If you see any of this vandal's IP addresses, please add them to this list or simply notify me. DarkKnight2149 20:50, 18 September 2016 (UTC)

Input from project members would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 02:57, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Notice to participants at this page about adminship
Many participants here create a lot of content, have to evaluate whether or not a subject is notable, decide if content complies with BLP policy, and much more. Well, these are just some of the skills considered at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship.
So, please consider taking a look at and watchlisting this page:
You could be very helpful in evaluating potential candidates, and even finding out if you would be a suitable RfA candidate.
Many thanks and best wishes,

2016 Community Wishlist Survey Proposal to Revive Popular Pages
Greetings WikiProject Fictional characters/Archive 5 Members!
This is a one-time-only message to inform you about a technical proposal to revive your Popular Pages list in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:
If the above proposal gets in the Top 10 based on the votes, there is a high likelihood of this bot being restored so your project will again see monthly updates of popular pages.
Further, there are over 260 proposals in all to review and vote for, across many aspects of wikis.
Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.
Best regards, Stevietheman — Delivered: 17:59, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Fictional Characters
Can an entry be added to Wikipedia for a fictional character - a story architected to help convey the ethos, interior design and style of an actual hotel in London? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomas.flynn (talk • contribs) 09:09, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
- I don't know what you are talking about. How do this fictional character, story, and interior design relate to eachother? Either way, you can create an article on any topic that meets general notability guidelines, though it's usually best to keep portions of fiction contained the article for the creative work they first appeared in, only splitting it off if there's too much out-of-universe information about the character to reasonably fit in the "main" article. ~Mable (chat) 09:43, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
Cat pages
Are the cat pages like Category:Fictional characters introduced in 2016 supposed to include only fictional characters, or also the actors who portray them? Kendall-K1 (talk) 20:59, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- Only the characters, not their actors. An actor isn't a "fictional character introduced in 20xx", after all. ~Mable (chat) 09:46, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
Popular pages report
We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Fictional characters/Archive 5/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Fictional characters.
We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:
- The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
- The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
- The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).
We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Fictional characters, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.
Warm regards, the Community Tech Team 17:16, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
Categories for renaming
Hi all, I am just notifying the Project that I have nominated four categories for renaming:
- Category:Fictional characters who died from a drug overdose
- Category:Fictional characters who committed suicide
- Category:Fictional characters who have self harmed
- Category:Fictional students who have had a relationship with a teacher
All four (separate) nominations can be found here. My main reasoning behind this is that the current titles do not comply with Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Writing about fiction, which is one of the most relevant guidelines to this Project. Your input is appreciated. Thanks. —anemoneprojectors— 16:47, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

Disambiguation links on pages tagged by this wikiproject
Wikipedia has many thousands of wikilinks which point to disambiguation pages. It would be useful to readers if these links directed them to the specific pages of interest, rather than making them search through a list. Members of WikiProject Disambiguation have been working on this and the total number is now below 20,000 for the first time. Some of these links require specialist knowledge of the topics concerned and therefore it would be great if you could help in your area of expertise.
A list of the relevant links on pages which fall within the remit of this wikiproject can be found at http://69.142.160.183/~dispenser/cgi-bin/topic_points.py?banner=WikiProject_Fictional_characters
Please take a few minutes to help make these more useful to our readers.— Rod talk 15:37, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
