Wiknic
[edit]Let's get Portland ready for the Great American Wiknic June 25!--Pharos (talk) 19:37, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- I may be able to attend if someone else does the organizing... Jclemens-public (talk) 19:20, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
- I helped with the Portland Wikipedia 10 event and I'm willing to step up to try to help with this also. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TEApollonius (talk • contribs) 21:40, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
- Check out Wikipedia:Meetup/Portland/Wiknic! :)--Pharos (talk) 14:41, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
- Please advocate for wheelchair accessibility (pavement, ramps, etc). TheZeroCard (talk) 14:33, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
Wiki Wednesdays
[edit]I wish there was more activity here relating to Wiki Wednesdays and other Portland meet-ups. I realize the meet-ups are not Wikipedia-specific, but reminders now and then would be helpful. --Another Believer (Talk) 22:38, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
- I think you would be very welcome to add more info about Wiki Wednesdays to the front side of this page, and how more local Wikipedians can become involved. Maybe even you could designate one Wednesday a month when Wikipedians are especially encouraged to join in :)--Pharos (talk) 03:57, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Try again for Wikinic Sept 2011?
[edit]Portland Wikipedians,
Shall we try again to get a wikinic in before the weather turns this year? I was too late to get us a park reservation for the June event. I'd like to try again. If there is some interest, I'll get the reservation first for sometime in late Sept or early Oct and then post the date. What say you?
I am using site criteria: public park, family-friendly, ADA friendly, parking not too far away, relatively central to Portland.
Comments? Here.it.comes.again (talk) 20:14, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Libraries is another option. --Another Believer (Talk) 00:18, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
Great American Wiknic for Portland in June 2012
[edit]Hi Wiki-Portlanders! I would like to invite you to again join the Great American Wiknic this June :) Also, please put any preliminary details at Wikipedia:Wiknic#2012 Wiknic.--Pharos (talk) 17:24, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
Based on some arm-twisting from Pharos - I picked location (Williamette Park) and assigned a date. Epistemophiliac (talk) 04:47, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- Willamette Park is a good location, it's cozy but offers some decent facilities. As I remember there are not very many picnic tables there so it might pay to think about bringing a portable table or two depending on how many people will show. Does this sort of thing require any special permit at a particular number of people? Obotlig ☣ interrogate 06:23, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
- Not sure, I picked it because I heard it was nice - I haven't been there myself yet; as for the permit, most parks if you want the reserved tables, yes - but just showing up no? Epistemophiliac (talk) 05:22, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
Keith Lofstrom (wikipedia newbie/dilettante) here. June 23, 2012 is the 100th anniversary of Alan Turing's birthday. Maybe everybody already knows that, but this appears to be the only computerish celebration in Portland on that day. Even though I have only made minor corrections and spam deletions to a dozen or so articles, and a few small donations, I'll show up, perhaps with a small posse in tow. Perhaps we can build a human Turing machine and do a very simple calculation — Preceding unsigned comment added by KeithLofstrom (talk • contribs) 05:37, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
A meetup in Vancouver, WA?
[edit]Today's meetup group at Multnomah County Library in Portland was fantastic. Is there any interest in scheduling an Edit-athon meetup at Vancouver Public Library in Vancouver, WA in the near future?--Susan Walling (talk) 22:44, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hi, Susan. Thanks for coming to the meetup this afternoon! I hope you learned a lot and continue contributing to Wikipedia. I'd be happy to attend meetups throughout the PDX metropolitan area, including Vancouver. Perhaps you could suggest that the library host a similar event? --Another Believer (Talk) 03:29, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
Vancouver WA Library meetup?
[edit]We (library staff) are interested in hosting a meetup or Edit-athon at the Vancouver Community Library in downtown Vancouver. Perhaps in November at part of Wikipedia Loves Libraries? Gauging interest now -- let me know! --Curiouser Librarian (talk) 17:47, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
- I would be interested in attending or even serving as an experienced user to answer questions. --Another Believer (Talk) 18:37, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
Wikiconference USA 2014
[edit]Hello! In New York City Friday 30 May - Sunday 1 June Wikiconference USA will be held as a national United States Wikipedia meetup hosted by Wikimedia New York City and Wikimedia DC. All are welcome to attend. Scholarship applications to cover travel expenses are accepted until the end of March and presentation submissions are requested until that time but can be accepted until closer to the conference.
In previous years New York City conferences have gathered 150 attendees. At this conference we are hoping for more people to attend.
It would be nice if participants and supporters of the Portland meetup could attend. Anyone with questions may contact me or any of the other organizers, or post on the conference website. Blue Rasberry (talk) 22:02, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Anyone for a meetup this fall?
[edit]The Wiknic never happened this summer, so I think it would be great to have a low-key Wiki meetup this fall at, say, a coffee shop or bar on a Sunday afternoon (although I have a flexible schedule). Would anyone else be interested? Tdslk (talk) 20:39, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- Most definitely! Sorry the Wiknic never came to fruition… Are you thinking an edit-a-thon of some sort (aka thematic), or something less content-driven? ----Another Believer (Talk) 21:14, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- I didn't have a theme in mind. I was imagining something more for regular users than a lure-in-newbies event (although those are great too). Tdslk (talk) 03:42, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Community Wishlist Survey 2019
[edit]Portlanders have definitively felt the limited support in our software for attracting local groups of people, mostly limited to watchlist notices. In 2016, WM-NYC filed a task to allow CentralNotice (the banners on top of article pages) to target readers in local areas. Efforts have stalled and to spur progress it would be great if you could support it in the Community Wishlist Survey. Voting ends November 30.
An example, CentralNotices were ran for Wikipedia's 10th birthday. WM-NYC had to cut pre-registration early, unable to accommodate the shear number of people signing up. Subsequent birthdays without a CentralNotices had at most 1/10 the RSVPs. — Dispenser 11:45, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
Portland 2020 Art+Feminism : Edit-a-thon, PSU
[edit]@Another Believer: would you put something on-wiki here about Portland 2020 Art+Feminism at PSU, Sat, Mar 14, 2020? Peaceray (talk) 00:46, 19 February 2020 (UTC)
@Peaceray: Just FYI, this event has been postponed. I've updated Wikipedia:Meetup/Portland/ArtAndFeminism/2020 and the template accordingly. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:57, 5 March 2020 (UTC)
Meet-and-greet in Portland with WMF's new CPTO, Selena Deckelmann
[edit]Hi everyone! My name is Arthur Richards, Director of Learning & Development for the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF). While I've been at the Foundation for 12 years, I'm relatively new to the PNW - I moved from Arizona to Bend, OR in 2018. You may have heard that the WMF recently hired a new Chief of Product and Technology Officer, Selena Deckelmann, who is based in Portland. We would like to organize a meet-and-greet event in Portland either on August 3 or August 4 2022 for area Wikimedians (inclusive of WMF staff) to get to know Selena a bit, and vice versa. Details are still TBD - and will be somewhat dependent on how many people we expect to attend. If you would be interested in attending an event like this, please let me know below or send an email to arthur [at] wikimedia [dot] org. I expect to have more concrete details in the next few weeks.
(Cross posted to Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Oregon) Awjrichards (WMF) (talk) 17:12, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
- Awjrichards (WMF) I'd be interested! WMF should have my email already, but you can hit the email button on my user page too. Izno (talk) 18:19, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
- I am tentatively interested. Tdslk (talk) 02:02, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
Hi all, an update here - we have coalesced around meeting up on August 3, 3-5pm. We are still finalizing the venue, but wanted to share the update around timing so you can mark your calendars. I will followup once we have the venue settled. Looking forward to connecting with those of you planning to attend! Awjrichards (WMF) (talk) 14:44, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
Hi again everyone! We have reserved a venue. The meet and greet will be held on August 3, 3-5pm at Rose City Book Pub in NE Portland. Hope to see you there! Awjrichards (WMF) (talk) 20:34, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
Another social with Selena Deckelmann this week
[edit]Hello all,

It will again be at Rose City Book Pub in Portland. If you're interested, please let me know below or at jlayton [at] wikimedia [dot] org. Thanks! JLayton (WMF) (talk) 19:49, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
