Does the draft for Kim Min-ji (singer) sufficiently demonstrate notability?

[edit]

Hello, I was wondering if Draft:Kim Min-ji (singer) manages to demonstrate individual notability in order to be re-submitted for review? Some experienced feedback would be much appreciated if anyone has the available time to take a look at it. Thank you :) AlexBW0524 (talk) 19:52, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Seeking thoughts regarding a draft

[edit]

Hi everyone. I stumbled upon some news for an Israeli-Palestinian pop group, of which, a draft already exists. I've since edited the draft based on the new news/existing press in the draft. They have some decent press (Billboard, Variety, People, some newspaper coverage) but have yet to release anything. Conventional wisdom tells me that they're notable based on the publications reporting on them (based on traditional WP:V and note 1 of WP:BAND), but I'm curious what outside opinions would say about this situation, considering they haven't produced any songs/videos. A documentary about the group is due to be released on Paramount+, but obviously has not been released yet. I'm curious, does the existence of good quality articles dictate their notability despite not having released any content? 30Four (talk) 23:21, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ji-Hae Park (violinist)

[edit]

Hello, this Korean violinist has repeatedly added material to "her" article that does not meet Wikipedia's standards (PR style, external links, missing references, etc.). I have been in touch with her over email for a while now, but we are unable to move forward. Instead, there have been repeated reverts. Can someone help me 'break the cycle' here? Thank you! Gnom (talk) 07:37, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I took the user's most recent edit summary ("If you think some expressions are PR words, I recommend fixing those expressions instead of reverting to a page from 10 years ago") to heart and removed any content that was either not properly sourced or was obvious puffery. Perhaps that will help clarify or at least help them feel less frustrated about the full reversions (which, in my opinion, were entirely justified.) Hope this helps! Violetstork (talk) 18:43, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Violetstork, thank you for this. Could we also align the number of weblinks in the "external links" section with WP:EXT? Also, I believe that we do not have a reference for the "entrepreneur" title in the lead sentence. Thanks, Gnom (talk) 06:04, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deaths in band members sections

[edit]

I am here to start a discourse about why we should not list these in band member timeline unless they died while still active in the band. To my knowledge, this has not been discussed with meaningful depth. We cannot stop the flow of time, and eventually, all the members of a band will be deceased. Are we really going to put "died 19xx" or "died 20xx" after every former member in such a case? It's only important here, in my opinion, if they died while a member of the band.

There is only one discussion of this topic which I recall, located at Talk:Casting Crowns. One person in that argument claimed there was another older discussion, but was unable to locate it. I supported adding these deaths at the time, simply because it was the widespread standard I observed across numerous bands. My opinion has since changed.

I propose that we formally make it the standard to remove these notes from band members sections. If we note the deceased at all, it would be when the member in question died while still a member of the band, where we would continue to use, for example Kurt Cobain (1987-1994; his death). mftp dan oops 12:58, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Them crickets sure do chirp awful loud. mftp dan oops 16:51, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I oppose it. It's been this way for literal decades on Wiki. There's 3 main reasons...#1: it'd take way too long to remove all of those death years. Since this has been the standard forever, it's just not feasible trying to change/revert all of those instances. #2: for 99% of these musicians, the band page they are attached to is all that they're known for. Having their death year next to their name is, at the very least, respectful. #3: it simply helps the reader to know who died when. I see it as an accessibility thing. I understand the purpose of adding death years (informing the reader)...but what purpose does removing death years serve? "Are we really going to put "died 19xx" or "died 20xx" after every former member in such a case?" Yes indeed. It doesn't look cluttered in my opinion. It simply looks informal.
It sucks no one (myself included) saw this until now. But thanks for linking towards it in your recent edit. However, if you really want a strong conversation, go on the Beatles and remove the death years for Lennon and Harrison (as, by your suggestion, their page would fall under this). Xanarki (talk) 18:29, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If changing everything to fit a standard "just isn't feasible", why are we editing Wikipedia at all? Like I said, 20 years from now are we going to have all the death dates next to bandmembers of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Doors, etc.? Yes, indeed, I would seek to have Lennon and Harrison's dates removed. mftp dan oops 19:23, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll take you up on that suggestion, by the way. Hopefully that gets this some attention. mftp dan oops 19:28, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think my 1st reason isn't as important as the others. I was just highlighting how far back this standard goes, and how widespread it is. Overall though, removing death dates simply creates more questions/uncertainty for the reader...especially like your edit in Alice in Chains. Staley's death year is included because he was technically still in the band, but Starr's death year isn't because he left years prior. In the shoes of someone who jumps to the Members section for the first time, I automatically assume only one member is dead and the rest are still alive (however, I don't support removing Staley's year, because then I would assume everyone is alive). Xanarki (talk) 20:01, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In the context of a band members section, whether someone is dead or alive really shouldn't be the focus; the point is that they no longer play with the band. If we must thus remove them from both categories, I could get behind that, but it's not my first choice of action. I understand that it has been a standard for some time, but if we continue to live with it, the standard will inevitably age poorly. mftp dan oops 20:06, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Company (band)

[edit]

Perhaps someone from this WikiProject could take a look at Company (band)? It's been around since 2006, but only single primary source is currently cited. I did some very minor cleanup, but the lack of sourcing is a concern. I tried Googling the band's name, but there seems to be another band named "Company" and I mostly found sites related to companies in Brooklyn. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:03, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good article reassessment for Bleeding Through

[edit]

Bleeding Through has been nominated for a good article reassessment. If you are interested in the discussion, please participate by adding your comments to the reassessment page. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, the good article status may be removed from the article.

Something interesting and personal I'd like to note: from what I can tell, this article is the last surviving A-Class music-related article before the rules were changed, and I think that it would be cool to have this preserved as a piece of Wikipedia's history and a bitter shame to lose it. (Unless someone would want to take it to FA one day, of course.) But I can't do this one alone, would anyone be willing to help me repair it? mftp dan oops 23:50, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal Collaboration of Bini

[edit]

Hi everyone!

I'd like to propose a collaboration to enchance coverage of Bini, a rising Filipino girl group that has been gaining significant attention both locally and internationally like the song Cherry on Top. Bini's impact on the music industry, particularly as part of growing P-pop and OPM songs, makes them a notable group worth documenting thoroughly.

We can collaborate on:

  • Expanding Bini main article with well-research and up to date content from reliable sources.
  • Improving structure sections such as their discography, achievements (or accolades), media appearances and collaboration on other music artists (e.g: Dilaw (Yellow) by Maki, Bini member Maloi featured on music video.)
  • Adding or refining content on their cultural influence, milestones, and contributions on P-pop.

This collaboration aligns with the goals by ensuring comprehensive and well structured coverage of notable musicians. And if this will highly active, it can be split into a WikiProject. I'd love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or suggestions! Please let me know if you'd like to join this effort. Royiswariii Talk! 12:43, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
