The above page has been created to be a part of this department. Neither I nor the creator know how to do that though. I hope at least one of you wonderful people take up the opportunity it provides to create another "story that never ends. John Carter (talk) 18:05, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

I've userfied it to its creator's userspace; it can now be found at User:Darkside2000/What the Wikipedian saw. Obviously, if DoF members decide that it should be part of the DoF, it can be moved accordingly. WaltonOne 18:52, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Animal Quiz restarted, but at MFD

Hi all! I noticed that the Portal:Animals/Quiz was at MFD, so I stepped in and asked a new question to try and save it. If any of you want to participate, come on over and make a guess! If you get it right, you get to ask the next question. Cheers! SunDragon34 (talk) 00:34, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Let's add DOF template to talk pages of humor pages

I looked at where the humor template is transcluded and I also saw the DOF template is only on the DOF page. So I suggest that it should be added to funny WP namespace pages that are not intended to appear to have a serious purpose (e.g. the wikiclinic). We could add it to the talk pages of those articles. I also think we should add a "funnyiness" like wikiprojects have a "rating" box. Sounds good?--Ipatrol (talk) 20:22, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Having come here after the template was added to WP:LAME, I wholeheartedly agree. Where have you guys been all my wikilife? This place gets so dry and po-faced at times. Totnesmartin (talk) 20:31, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
I have begun the template-adding process and anyone is welcome to help. One we have finished getting those pages we can then begin the slightly serious, but still potentially funny, task of improving, updating, and humorfying those pages, just like any other wikiproject does with their pages, but with a phunny :-) twist.--Ipatrol (talk) 20:49, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
I have created Category:WikiProject Department of Fun for all the pages categorized for the DOF. It's automatically added by the {{Department of Fun}} template. Let the scramble for the funny begin--Ipatrol (talk) 22:52, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

The answer to life, the universe and...a new holiday?

The number 42 is almost universally celebrated by everyone on a project that is supposed to encompass all human knowledge. Even Jimbo Wales acknowledges the number. So therefore I propose that the 42nd day of the year (I believe it is Febuary 11th) become Life, Universe, and Everything day. While holidays have been traditionaly been created by Jimbo, he has said that we don't need his approval for every little thing. So what do you think?--Ipatrol (talk) 21:08, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Sounds great! Totnesmartin (talk) 08:57, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Wikistory

The Wikistory was speedy-deleted yesterday. I am rather ambivalent about this (on the one hand, the Wikistory seems like a lot of space to waste on silliness in an encyclopedia; on the other, I am fond of Wikipedia's loopy subculture). However, I thought I should at least bring it to the attention of people who feel more strongly about it, especially as deletion has been discussed and voted down before. Incidentally, the Sentence Wikistory still exists, but is barely more coherent than the original and could conceivably be deleted under the same criterion. A. Parrot (talk) 23:06, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

That's too bad, it could just as easily been tagged as historical, and along with all the other silliness in Category:Wikipedia humor why did this particular one have to go? It's just not fair <sniff>. -- OlEnglish (Talk) 02:56, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
BTW, where's the AfD (or MfD rather) discussion for is? I see the previous two here but where's yesterday's? -- OlEnglish (Talk) 03:03, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello there, I've created a subsection to the project's template to assess articles related to the scope of the project, the first one is going to be the 4chan article.

Have a good day yall and happy wiki editing

Eduemonitalk 15:50, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

The banner at the very top of WP:Department of fun says the articles in namespace are not within this project. Besides, your choice of which articles are "related" to this topic is subjective; it seems you have only tagged articles related to Internet memes and Internet subculture. People's ideas of what articles are "fun" are sure to vary. I have removed your additions. rʨanaɢ (talk) 16:29, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
I've added articles related to Internet memes and Internet subculture as they are cited by several members of this project and even within the project's own page. And they all have a humorous esquee. And they are not literally related to comedy. --Eduemonitalk 16:41, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
Again, that is your opinion. The fact that they are articles about topics that you find entertaining does not mean they themselves are "geared towards Wikitainment". They are encyclopedia articles (as every article on Wikipedia mainspace is), and the articles themselves should not contain jokes or games. Please seek consensus before plastering a new template across numerous talk pages throughout Wikipedia. rʨanaɢ (talk) 21:03, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
This project banner is not meant for articles in mainspace. It's a Wikipedia WikiProject, meant for "providing the Wikipedian community, both young and old editors, with things to make them stay at Wikipedia, indirectly improving the encyclopedia". It's not a project for improving article content. -- œ 12:09, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
Furthermore, all those categories you created such as Category:FA-Class Department of Fun articles should be deleted, as they will never be populated. I understand you were doing this in good faith, but it's really is not within the scope of this project. I can assure you that tag spamming multiple articles with the DoF banner will bring undue attention to this project, and we'll have content editors yelling at our doorstep. -- œ 12:21, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
Rjanag and OE are correct; this tagging should cease and be reversed. Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 18:33, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

I'd suggest calling it WikiLore, rather than myths...myths sound like misunderstandings about us. Oh, and I got around to that Lyngbakr page tonight. Care to run your eyes across it and see if you can improve upon it? I know you're interested in that sort of thing. The big question I have though is whether to treat it as a myth or a cryptid-- obviously we know now that it's not real, but in reading the account, it appeared it could have been an honest explanation given by someone who simply got embarrassingly lost at sea. Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 03:44, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
WikiLore... yes, that sounds rather nice indeed. Would you be willing to help out? Looking at the lyngbakr page, "myth" sounds like it would be a better title for the creature because of the lack of sightings of the creature. I think that it looks good. I took care of removing red links, and I'll be scanning Wikimedia Commons for a fitting picture. Pumagirl7 Leave a message 14:48, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

WikiFauna

We have an overwhelming amount of WikiFauna, and some of them differ greatly in terms of article length and insight. For example, WikiDragon is much longer and deeper than WikiMule. Therefore, I believe that we should have a standard "skeleton" of headers and subheaders for WikiFauna that all will fill in. I was thinking of a cross between WikiDragon and WikiPuma, as they are two of the longest WikiFauna articles, and while they both share some, like "Attributes, Values, and Powers", they differ in some. For example, WikiPuma doesn't have "Theories on origin" or "Taxonomy", but WikiDragon doesn't have "Juveniles" or "Overworking". Agreement? Disagreement? Comments? A vote on the top 10 lamest edit wars

I suggest we vote on the top 10 lamest edit wars in the history of Wikipedia (if you don't know what I'm talking about, Wikipedia:Lamest edit wars will tell you everything about lame edit wars). The purpose of this is to have a special section on the page where the lamest of the lamest edit wars are documented. The guidelines are below:

1. You may vote for up to 5 edit wars. Your top pick (the very lamest edit war, in your opinion) gets 5 points, your second pick gets 4 points, and so on, down to your fifth pick, which gets one point.
2. At the end of the vote (a week from now or after 15 people have voted, whichever comes later), the 10 edit wars with the most points will be the "winners", in order of points scored (the edit war with the most points out of every edit war in wiki-history will be considered the #1 lamest edit war, the one with the second-most points will be #2, and so on). The 10 "winners" will be moved to a special section of Wikipedia:Lamest edit wars to be recognized as the lamest of the lamest edit wars.
3. I will manage the vote; no one else needs to count points or move edit wars to the Top 10 section. You're welcome to help, but don't think I can't handle it.
4. Be specific when voting. Don't leave us in the dark; provide details, especially when the edit war is not listed on Wikipedia:Lamest edit wars (please also provide diffs when the war is unlisted).
5. For the purposes of this vote, wheel wars and deletion wars may be counted as edit wars.
6. Provide reasons for your votes, but be civil and don't provoke others.
7. Vote at the bottom of the section.
8. Questions? Ask me!

I hope this vote is a fun project. Good luck! ChromaNebula (talk) 00:28, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

I like it. I'll take my vote right now.
1. Bathrobe (image) - Come on, it started its own cabal!
2. Cow Tipping (image) - It ended with "A cow in its natural upright state", which in my opinion is almost as bad as the original "An unsuspecting potential victim?"
3. Grand Theft Auto IV (ethnic) - Because we all care about the nationality of a VIDEO GAME CHARACTER.
4. Cute (wording) - Because nothing is more important than deciding whether the word "cute" applied to something makes it NPOV.
5. Katie Couric (wording) - Let's just call her an entertaining journalist and be done with it. (And no, it is not necessary to mention that she drops "g"s at the end of words).

There should be some video game/TV related Wikilove. Who agrees there? 3. to brambleberry, how do you make your Teh Flying Corgi (talk) 18:15, 5 March 2013 (UTC) different fonts?
