Esperanza Calendar
You might want to take a look at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Calendar, which fills much of the same function. I suspect the overlap with a larger organization is one reason why recruiting is down ;-) —Kirill Lokshin 14:33, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks for pointing that out to me. JaredW! 12:14, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

We need a few templates.
I was thinking:
Happy Birthday, {{PAGENAME}}, from the Wikipedia Birthday Commitee. --GeorgeMoneyTalk Contribs 04:46, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
- Great idea. I'll get on that. Jared W 11:09, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- I just finished making it. Check it out on the Birthday Committee page, and see how you like it. We might want to make a few different variations on it, just so that the messages seem more personal. Jared W 11:18, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Another place to check for birthdays
Are people looking here for birthdays? Amalas 19:20, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
- I had never thought of looking there. The problem is, it's too much of a pain to add yourself to that category, and remove yourself the next day, not to mention it makes late and early birthday messages harder. I'll add that link to the page, though. Jared W 18:46, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Templates
I don't like the second template, because you can't see the links. --GeorgeMoneyTalk Contribs 03:52, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
- I have fixed it to make it a little more visible and I have added categories to the templates. The category I added was Category:Wikipedians wished a Happy Birthday by the Wikipedia Birthday Committee --GeorgeMoneyTalk Contribs 03:57, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Birthday Template on a Meta-Wiki page?
Just curious to know: Should we leave birthday messages on a meta-wiki page, or should the message just be reserved for Wikipedia talk pages? I was unsure, and am not leaving birthday messages on users that only have meta-wiki pages. Thanks. Thistheman 04:12, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Birthday messages should go to all wikis. --GeorgeMoney T·C 04:37, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- What if someone has a page on Wikipedia, and also a page on Meta-Wiki? Do you put a mesage on both? Sergeant Snopake 20:31, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- You can, but I would do the one they are most active on. --GeorgeMoney T·C 23:07, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- What if someone has a page on Wikipedia, and also a page on Meta-Wiki? Do you put a mesage on both? Sergeant Snopake 20:31, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yup. George is right. Mr. Turcottetalk 00:17, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
Membership Reqirements
Don't you think they are pretty extreme? Anybody can just slap a {{Happy Birthday}} on somebody's talkpage without being a member. Also, not have been blocked for three months? What does that have to do with birthdays. I think we should remove the requirements. They don't help. --GeorgeMoney T·C 23:07, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
Vandals and blocked people CAN be reformed. So the bocked for 48 rule is kinda crazy.--Gangsta-Easter-Bunny 01:06, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- I think Steveo was a little strict on the 48 hour rule. I feel that is a bit extreme. Maybe the "Not have been blocked in the last three months" could be reduced a little, but that's about it. I think that the rest of the requirements seem fine. Mr. Turcottetalk 16:18, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Template
Look! I made a template!
Sergeant Snopake 12:31, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
And another:
Sergeant Snopake 13:00, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- Both of these templates have been given a green light by Steveo2 and myself. Feel free to make them "real" templates. Please then add them to the list. If you need any help just tell me on my talk page. Thanks. Mr. Turcottetalk 19:14, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- These are both new templates that can be used. Enjoy! Mr. Turcottetalk 23:32, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Belated Birthday Template
You know, I might be able to make one; I have a few days off from school later this week, so I might make one or two templates, either belated or regular. I'm just not very familiar with the graphics process, so it'll take me some time to get it right. Hope you don't mind. Thanks.
By the way, I love Sergeant Snopake's templates above! (As well as the ones we're already using, of course :-) ).
Thistheman 03:29, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
That would be a great idea! I know I always want to wish someone a birthday, but I'm a day or so late. Mr. Turcottetalk 20:08, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- After all, we have belated birthday cards. :) Sergeant Snopake 08:42, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Nice job on the templates
They look really neat. The two above look nice too!
Mr. Turcottetalk 19:43, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Changed wording on a template
I just realized that the template {{Happy Birthday 6}} had said, "Here's you you on your birthday", which didn't make any sense. I think it meant to say "Here's to you...", so I changed it accordingly. Just letting all of you know :-). Thistheman 02:45, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you. Mr. Turcottetalk 15:46, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
No-Birthday Committee b-day template
({{{1}}} is your username). How do you like it? GangstaEB EA 00:59, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- That is an interesting idea. I tested it it seems to work (but you do have to put your username in by yourself). Mr. Turcottetalk 01:51, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Please have me approve templates in the future before you add them to the project page. Thank you.
- This one is a little more difficult to use. I'm going to turn it down for now. Mr. Turcottetalk 20:00, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- Is it really? {{subst:Whatever Happy Birthday Template Name|~~~}}. That can't be too hard, can it? --Draicone (talk) 09:19, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Exclamation Marks!!!
I propose that we get rid of the excessive exclamation marks on most of these lovely templates, for the sheer reason that it appears that we are yelling at them. Of course, one exclamation mark can do the trick, and anymore than that seems excessive, unnecessary, and sloppy. --emc! ╬ (t a l k) 04:09, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- I see your point. If you'd like to remove some of the question marks, feel free. Mr. Turcottetalk 01:10, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
More templates
I created a new one (see below).
It's a little too personal (the signature is always mine at the moment) but I'm working on that. I may turn my hand to a belated-birthday template next.
EVOCATIVEINTRIGUE TALKTOME | EMAILME | IMPROVEME 22:06, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- Very good. It does need to be a little less personal, but other than that it looks fine. Just be sure that the Birthday Committee does change to the user's username when placed. Fix it up, I'll give it an okay, and then we'll make it a template. Mr. Turcottetalk 01:07, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
It should do, it uses {{PAGENAME}}. Just having trouble at the moment with the signature and preventing it from substituting the text! EVOCATIVEINTRIGUE TALKTOME | EMAILME | IMPROVEME 12:32, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
Found it: {{{1}}} (above). EVOCATIVEINTRIGUE TALKTOME | EMAILME | IMPROVEME 12:34, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
Ok, back to stage one: I can't get the signature to display properly, any ideas? EVOCATIVEINTRIGUE TALKTOME | EMAILME | IMPROVEME 15:07, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
{{{1}}} means there is a parameter to the include, i.e. {{subst:Happy Birthday x|Draicone}} would allow {{{1}}} to be used. Otherwise, just use the method I suggested to you on email. --Draicone (talk) 09:20, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
New Membership Requirements
GeorgeMoney contacted me, saying that our requirements are a little much. George is in favor of getting rid of the requirements all together.
I agree with George's idea the more I think of it. These new requirments will go into effect, but I will probably get rid of them in a few weeks. That way, anyone who wants to say "Happy Birthday" can.
The New Requirements:
To join the group, one must:
- Have 75 edits or more
- Have been on Wikipedia for 1 month or more
These new requirements will go into effect on June 28, 2006, and do not apply to members that had already been accepted at this time.
Mr. Turcottetalk 01:02, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
Member list
Would it be neater to describe most members' status as Active rather than None? in the membership list box? None to me seems to suggest we're not currently active in wishing greetings to other users! EVOCATIVEINTRIGUE TALKTOME | EMAILME | IMPROVEME 20:34, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- None means "not anything out of the ordinary" (wikibreaks, etc.. are out of the ordinary (in a sense that not being on a wikibreak is ordinary) ). The same thing with some members' who didn't provide their birthday. It's not like they "have no birthday", just "none" is short for "none given". --GeorgeMoney (talk) (Help Me Improve!) 20:46, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- Exactly what George said. Mr. Turcottetalk 21:45, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
First Edit Day
Thanks for your comments everyone. I give this an okay and I will add this template to the project page. Enjoy! - Mr. Turcottetalk 19:58, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
This is a poll whether we should do 1st edit days too. Of course Mr.Turcotte and Steveo2 have the final say. Here's a template (code={{First Edit Day}}:

Neutral
- Neutral I see no problem with it. I also give the template an okay too. I'd like to see how other users feel about it though. Mr. Turcottetalk 22:25, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- Neutral - I really don't think we need a poll to see if we should do first edit days. I say, go for it! You can wish people happy first edit days any time. And, if Mr. Turcotte approves of the template, then it will become official, but a poll is not needed. GeorgeMoney (talk) 05:32, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

New First Edit Day Templates
We could use a few more First Edit Day templates. That way at least we can mix it up a little bit on the talk pages. Thanks. Mr. Turcottetalk 18:37, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
BTW: I have approved EvocativeIntrigue's new template. It will be available soon. (Thanks.)

Birthday template (revised)
Hi folks,
Finally got round to sorting the birthday template out, so here it is:

- I like it. Approved. I will make it usable soon. Mr. Turcottetalk 17:58, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
