Stub and dead end tag addition to pages about decades
Status | Fixed in the next release |

Description | AWB randomly, three times, added the stub tag when the page wasn't really a stub at all. Once, on 710s, it aslo added the dead end tag when the page appeared to have several links to other pages. The decade pages transclude info from {{Events by year for decade}} so they don't have their own content. They just display content from other pages. I can exclude tagging from pages with this template. the pages still need cleanup since they contain empty/useless sections. -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:15, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

The bug is related to Database scanner.
- Start the database scanner.
- Load a dump file
- Select content or leave it blank (it doesn't matter), leave title and text blank
- From the "Searching" tab select "missing defaultsort"
- Press start
- Kaboom. -- Magioladitis (talk) 12:35, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Top pane shows excessive white space.
Status | Fixed in the next release |
---|---|
Description | Top pane shows excessive white space. What appears to be in addition to spacing created by the new variations of styles.css, there is additional white space at the top, left, right and (bottom although this is normally scrolled off the end).
For example you can change the style.css to background-color: black; and still see the black inside a white box. The white space reduces what text will fit inside the viewing area, which in turn can create a need for aa right hand scroll bar making the viewing area less again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sun Creator (talk • contribs) 23:02, 4 September 2012 (UTC) |

No underlinked is needed neither. -- Magioladitis (talk) 11:53, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
- (e/c) AWB relies on the "What links here" information. The problem here is that the job queue hadn't got round to re-processing the "What links here" information for the articles using {{Yemeni elections}} after yesterday's edit to the template. I've bypassed the job queue by doing a null edit to one of the articles, South Yemeni parliamentary election, 1978, and it is now listed as an article that links to Yemeni constitutional referendum, 2013. AWB should no longer suggest adding an orphan tag to the article.
- I don't think there's a lot that the AWB programmers can do about this. -- John of Reading (talk) 11:56, 25 June 2013 (UTC)

At least have the courtesy to tell us, if it can't be packaged with the rest of the software, otherwise you'll soon have a hoard of people like me who come here to report this as a bug. - You should not need the dll to retain the existing functionality. I was asking to see if that resolved the issue. In my testing single click to focus diff worked whether the dll was available on the system or not. Thats not the real problem. It seems to be if you click save in bot mode with "preview the Diff in BOT mode", the Bot timer still running and try to save the second item. So if the list has only one article left, it gives me this. ZWNJ shouldn't be Unicodified

Description | An edit I made to an article using AWB was reverted, because it Unicodified strings like [‌[[voiceless bilabial stop|p]]] . The &zwnj character is there so that the text is rendered correctly. The problem is that in the version Unicodified by AWB, the character is still there, but it's not written as an entity, so it's invisble. In its intended usage in Arabic, the character itself is still invisible, but it visibly affects surrounding text.
I agree with the reverter that making this character invisible is a bad idea and I think the safest way to deal with this is to never Unicodify this character, by adding it to |

Problem with Template parameter logic
Status | Not a bug in AWB, has been referred |

Would it be possible to modify the logic to incude recognition for <? This would be a big improvement I think as a lot of projects (espeically the large ones) use comments as do many of the Mainspace templates like Infoboxes and citations. Kumioko Can you please provide a live example? Did you check if the page has/had unbalanced brackets? -- Magioladitis (talk) 06:01, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
- No problem here are a couple: Talk:Alfred Genz, Talk:August Becker. If you try and delete the empty parameter directly before the comments it doesn't work.Kumioko (talk) 13:36, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
- I should clarify that is using the Template parameter logic on a custom module. But it misses stuff with the build in AWB code too if the parameter comes before a <. It will take me a little while to find another example of that. I also want to clarify it only seems to be in cases where qualifiers like .Length == 0) or ").Equals("no")) are used. If you just delete the field without qualifying if its empty or contains a certain thing it works. Since this will likely be ignored as a problem with the custom module coding. Which I know its not specific too, I will see if I can find some examples of where the built in code isn't working and report that so we can get this fixed. Kumioko (talk) 13:44, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
- In the Genz example you want to delete the
|Weaponry=
parameter? I am dubious about making a change in general as there are other templates where parameters may be included with comments as the content on purpose (e.g. citation templates), so it's not going to be correct to remove parameters only with comments. Are you using RemoveTemplateParameter()? How about you change your logic to remove it if the content is just a comment or length zero. Rjwilmsi 17:24, 6 July 2013 (UTC)- Yes that is correct I was trying to delete
|Weaponry=
. I agree that we shouldn't be deleting the parameter if it has something in it and in fact there are some parameters we shouldn't delete even if its empty (like|class=
in WikiProject banners or|title=
or|url=
in citation parameters). I am focusing on the ones that are empty, =no or are duplicate parameters. So in the case listed above, it doesn't make sense to me to allow it to be deleted if its empty followed by a | and } but not if its followed by a comment <. I understand if you need to leave it more generic though since its used on so many things. To answer the last question, for the most part I am only deleting them if they are zero length, but the < in comments won't let some be deleted. The code is here. Its not perfect by any means but I don't think its the code stopping it from deleting the parameter. I think its the comment that stops it. Kumioko (talk) 17:57, 6 July 2013 (UTC)- You're removing the field if the length is zero. The length will be > 0 if there is a comment. If you want to delete the field if it has a comment only, then you can implement that in your custom module. I'm not going to change the generic Tools functions since we've agreed comment use is different in different templates. Rjwilmsi 09:31, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
- That's fine. I don't really agree that just having a comment means the parameter contains content but I understand you wanting to keep the logic as generic as possible. Kumioko (talk) 11:48, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

We only include banners that start with WikiProject... WikiProject Mathematics denies to change their template name. Not AWB's problem. -- Magioladitis (talk) 11:08, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

- Update my version of User:Magioladitis/WikiProjects so it will also change {{maths rating}} to {{WikiProject BattyBot maths rating}}
- AWB will see the banner starts with "WikiProject" and include it inside {{WikiProjectBannerShell}}
- Create a find and replace rule to change "{{WikiProject BattyBot " to "{{" after general fixes

It is not supposed to. -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:03, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- Why? Shouldn't it behave like every other alert? Bgwhite (talk) 04:25, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
- Not every alert is clickable. For example, the no categories alert is not, because, well, what do you highlight when the alert is about something missing entirely? However, we could make the see also alert clickable so I'll get this done. Rjwilmsi 07:42, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

- I brought this up a while back. At the time the dev's didn't want to build talk page logic into the general fixes. Since then that has changed so I second the request to do this If possible there are quite a few things on the talk page layout that AWB doesn't do which would also be nice to have. Kumioko (talk) 23:23, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
I don't think it's move above GA nominee: [17], [18]. I think it's only talk header. -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:15, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
GoingBatty are you sure GA nominee should go before Talk header? I know that this is written in WP:TPL but maybe it was by mistake? Talk header contains the blp tag in many cases which is stronger than the GAN. -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:19, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
- @Magioladitis: - If WP:TPL isn't the most relevant rule of thumb, I don't know what else would be. Do you mean that {{Talk header}} contains the blp tag, or that {{WPBS}} contains the blp tag? GoingBatty (talk) 14:10, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
- @GoingBatty: you are right. I'll just leave a question at WP:TPL's talk page to ensure the consensus won't change. -- Magioladitis (talk) 14:12, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
@Rjwlimsi: correct order is: Skip to talk, Talk header, GA Nominee, WPBS / wikiprojects. -- Magioladitis (talk) 20:01, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

"Fixing" repeat words in filenames breaks links
Status | Not a bug in AWB, has been referred |
---|---|
Description | AWB apparently tries to clean up repeated words, like "of of", even in links to filenames, thus breaking the link to that file. The Caiaphas ossuary article links to an image "File:Ossuary of of the high priest Caiaphas P1180853.JPG", and apparently AWB tries to "fix" the "of of" in the filename, thus causing a redlink where an image should be. Removed some crap. Maybe a rare case? -- Magioladitis (talk) 12:49, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
- Definitely a rare case. Gallery on talk pages a rare to start with, and that bug seems to need to have a gallery at the start of the talk page, without a level 2 header. Personally, I would do dishes and watch grass grow before fixing this bug, but it's a bug nonetheless. An alternative would be to do a DB scan and just manually fix those instances to get rid of them. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 12:55, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

private static readonly Regex Anchor2NewlineHeader = new Regex(Tools.NestedTemplateRegex("Anchor").ToString() + "\r\n(\r\n)+==", RegexOptions.Multiline);
, include any redirects for anchor. Then in FixHeadings after the HeadingsWhitespaceBefore line,articleText = Anchor2NewlineHeader.Replace(articleText, m => m.Replace("\r\n\r\n==", "\r\n=="));
and add appropriate extra unit tests. Rjwilmsi 12:10, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

- 4. High-priority/importance, warning/attention templates:
- {{COI editnotice}} (e.g. Talk:Boom! Studios)
- {{Notice}} (e.g. Talk:Break-up of the Beatles)
- {{warning}} (e.g. Talk:Star Trek Into Darkness)
- 5. Specific talk page guideline banners:

- {{British English Oxford spelling}} (e.g. Talk:George Harrison)
- {{Calm talk}} (e.g. Talk:Paul McCartney)
- 6. Article history banners:
- {{ArticleHistory}} (e.g. Talk:Bruce Springsteen)
- 8. {{Image requested}} (e.g. Talk:ITunes Live from Capitol Studios)
- Also, it seems {{GA}} should remain above the WikiProjects (e.g. Talk:The Who)

rev 9538 reverts last change in ISBN logic till we fix it. -- Magioladitis (talk) 12:33, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- Maybe use this logic:
- "ISBN-10 " "ISBN-13 " followed by 10 or more digits/dashes: remove the "-10" or "-13"
- "ISBN-" followed by 10 or more digits/dashes, remove the "-"
- "ISBN-10" or "ISBN-13" followed by punctuation or letters - do nothing.
- GoingBatty (talk) 20:00, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- There are alot of bad ISBN numbers with less than 10 digits. I've seen quite a few bad ISBNs that start with X, Here is a current list, plus other letters. Old checkwiki program specifically skipped one page when looking for bad ISBNs... International Standard Book Number. Batty's suggestion is the right place to start on if AWB should automatically fixes a problem or not... Batty's logic doesn't take into account cases of ISBN-10=0123456789. However, we should just wait till next month's dump. In October's dump, checkwiki used new logic to find bad ISBNs and cases of ISBN- were cleaned up. Next month, we should have an idea if this is a wide spread or limited problem, plus we can see what false positive cases look like. Bgwhite (talk) 20:38, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Don't expect 100% fixes in talk pages anyway. Templates in talk pages are misused. Many pages contain talk header and skip to talk even if there is no discussion at all in the page. Moreover, new redirect are created every day. Talk header has 17(!) redirects. Most recent created 2-3 months ago. -- Magioladitis (talk) 15:07, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
