Wikipedia:WikiProject Languages/Confirmed language names at AIATSIS

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A list of 722 Australian and Tasmanian language and dialect reference names was obtained by searching for 'confirmed' varieties at AIATSIS AUSTLANG on 2019-Feb-13.[1] That is an increase of 8 from five years prior, with one retirement.

164 possible languages with 'potential' data are listed separately, up from 100 five years prior. Unconfirmed languages and possible languages without data are not listed.

To see what has changed since then, see Talk for a comparison check list.

Confirmed languages

[edit]

New languages are confirmed at AIATSIS as data is analyzed. Preferred AIATSIS spellings are also frequently changed.

List as of 2019.02.13

The colon was replaced with the modifier letter colon in Bi꞉gwurrung, as otherwise the links do not function. The straight and curly punctuation apostrophes were not replaced with modifier letter apostrophes. Two closely related language varieties share the name 'Biyay', and other pairs share 'Kukatja', 'Wangkumara' and 'Wiyabal'.
