Hello,

I am unsure as to the necessary changes required. I am writing about the life about a very interesting person, a Persian/Iranian (and a Muslim) man who fought in the American Civil War. This person is one of perhaps 250 Asian and Pacific Islander peoples who served in the War. His life also speaks to the ideas of race and racism to the time. For example, he was also arrested briefly because another soldier decided that this person didn't look White enough to serve in a White unit.

The issue seems to be that he is not yet famous and so, besides his pension papers (which are available on online archives), various military papers, and his grave, there is not much that one can find. No books, no films, no TV shows. As someone who holds a PhD and is currently serving in the Department of Defense, I believe this is a notable person that I would like to research and write about further. My rough summary in Wikipedia could be a start.

Please advise.

Hi Siamak Naficy You're going about this backwards. You say there are few sources about the subject, some official military records and other primary documents. As you are in the military, and already have a PhD, I think you are ideally placed to write a proper academic article about this man. Get it published in a reputable academic journal, such as the Journal of Military History. That would in fact create exactly the type of source needed to sustain a Wikipedia article about him. I got a review on my page Basil Seggos asking for 3 additional sources to verify his notoriety. Could you be more specific about what constitutes verification of notoriety? The head of the NJ state environmental commission Catherine McCabe has a listed page and she is the same stature as Seggos.

Also could you specify which sentence was cut and paste? I am unsure which one the reviewer was referring to.

Hi Mrpmcgoohan comparing to otherarticles is not usually useful (see WP:OSE) but for a moment let's do so. Take a good look at the sources cited in the Catherine McCabe article; they include mainstream news media such as The Michigan Daily, CNN, Washington Post as well as other reputable sources such as the Columbia Law School website. Now look at the sources in your draft, there's nothing of comparable stature. So, dig a little deeper, look for sources that comply with both WP:Independent sources and WP:Reliable sources while containing substantial information about Seggos. Oh, and lastly "notoriety" is not the same as notability (as defined by Wikipedia policies). I hope this helps.Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 18:22, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. This is my first time attempting to make a draft/page. I want to make this page because I want more Brown and Black people to be on Wikipedia. Mr. Lucero is an actor and reformed gangmember who helps others change their lives after being incarcerated. He is an up-and-coming star with his third season on FX starting in 2020. I'm not a fan. I just happened to read about his story and thought it was important to try and document the contributions of more Black and Brown people. Anyways, I did my best to format it to the Wikipedia articles but I'm sure I didn't do everything correctly.

Things I need help with: - I published my changes. However, when I click "add tags to your draft". It says my draft cannot be found. I'm not sure how to fix this. - Could someone please look over what I have so far and make some suggestions? I suck at coding but I'd really like to write more for Wiki. If anyone is willing to mentor me a little, I would really appreciate the help in regards to headings, formatting, citations, etc. -

I've tried to be neutral with the language and tone of the submission; will trim it down further. Though it's my first submission, I did thoroughly study the guidelines for Wikipedia. I do understand the same is pretty vast and the importance of keeping the submissions and final approvals in alignment with the guidelines, I really would appreciate getting an immaculate understanding of the gaps, so that I can bridge them accordingly. The work by the artist in submission is unique, notable and inspiration for many.

We also have various other micro-artists as well with similar profiles(https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Venkatesh_Gattem), which initially inspired me to write this page for Dheeraj Kolla.

Please do let me know, how can I align it with the requisite guidelines and I shall make the necessary changes.

Kingdom2020, sorry, as the topic is made up, it's impossible for it to have any sort of coverage which would show notability, apart from made up places (out of context which assert that they are real), being inappropriate for Wikipedia. Kingdom2020 In order for your micronation to merit an article, independent reliable sources that you have nothing to do with must have written about your micronation extensively, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of notability. There are micronations that do merit articles, such as the Principality of Sealand or Republic of Molossia, but independent sources have written about those micronations. I recently submitted a new page to Wikipedia about the online music magazine, The New LoFi. It was dismissed on the grounds of having only "passing mentions." To the contrary, there are multiple reliable secondary sources (StereoFox, The London Echo Newspaper) which are independent of the subject.

In addition, other pages that are very similar to this submission have been accepted (see: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Earmilk)

Can you please give a less generalized reason why this submission was decline. Specifics would be helpful.

WP:OSE. If you can wait until like 4 pm UTC when I am at home, I may be able to look more detailed into that. Note that your first argument here is logically incorrect, a source can be a passing mention and still be reliable and independent of the subject. See WP:CSMN. @Hans Davidow: Draft:Stages of the IOS app development appears to be an attempt to explain to the reader how to approach the creation of an iOS app. If you want to write such an article I suggest you use a blog platform or an alternative wiki. Wikipedia already has an article on Mobile app development, which you are welcome to expand, but please don't add 'how to' information as that's not what Wikipedia is for. Dear Helpdesk,

Please clarify the specific reasons for a decline of publication of a new article. The reasons as I understand fall under the statement; "... his submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established...."

I understand the need for the type of sources required in the first place, but all references listed are from the public reliable and independent sources, like critics from the respective local daily Politika (in Serbian though), BBC news site, national television reviews, original musical shows announcements with VL appearances listed and one video also showing VL in performance with the choir.

Please comment why these references don't satisfy the independent, reliable, published sources criteria.

@Smederevac053: Taking the BBC source that you mentioned, it is an interview, which means that while it is from a reliable published source, it is not independent, as an interview relies on the subject's participation as a source of the content. @Digitalgoutam: WIkipedia does not contain "profiles", Wikipedia contains 'encyclopedic articles, mainly based on what reliable sources have decided to write about the subject without being feed. In addition, we are not interested in a rerun of the Seigenthaler incident. The draft is extremely hard to read, as many sentences start with "she". I am in serious need of help trying to have my page Carlos Eugene Moore approved and moved to the articles section. No matter how many edits I make to the page, each and every reviewer finds something to disapprove it for. I have finally finished editing it based on the latest comment, and now it was disapproved for "sounding like an article" and "having too many junk sources," which was never mentioned in ANY of the other comments. @ShariRobertsPR: There is no guarantee that the article will be advanced to live space. To address your confusion, the first time the article was declined, (which I can see in the deletion history) it was because there were insufficient inline citations in a massive wall of text. It would be very difficult for our volunteers to verify the claims made in the article if none of the references are properly added in-line. The second time it was declined, was because an editor found that it was a giant copyright violation, with large swaths of content having been copied from a website related to the subject. That's also why the article was deleted. I'm sure you can imagine why the community doesn't want Wikipedia to be complicit shills in the theft of someone's intellectual property, right? These both seem to be pretty fast declines, and I don't see why someone would have read the article any further. After you recreated the article, it was declined for having poor sources and sounding like an advertisement, (not for "sounding like an article") and that's not surprising, since it appears you restored most of the copyright violations. And if you restored most of the copyright violations, it should not be surprising to you that it was declined yet again for containing copyright violations, just like what happened before.
