The LuEsther T. Mertz Library of the New York Botanical Garden welcomes Wikipedia editors to participate at this Wednesday, January 25, 2017, Edit-a-thon focused on creating and enhancing pages related to the theme of Plants and People. This edit-a-thon is a part of week-long Wikipedia edit-a-thon event "Plants and People" spearheaded by member libraries of the Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries.
This Edit-A-Thon is focused on creating and enhancing articles for Women in Science. Specifically, we will be highlighting female scientists. Library staff has elected to focus on creating biographical Wikipedia articles for women who work within several areas of botany — ethnobotany, taxonomy, and plant collecting.
Editors will use the vast historic collections of the Mertz Library in order to create and edit existing pages. Training will be provided for those who have no prior experience editing Wikipedia. A training session will be offered during the first hour of this event. New editors are encouraged to attend this training. Experienced editors may arrive at any point during the event's duration.
Please register through our EventBrite page, in addition to registering through this Wikipedia page.
The participants affiliated with this initiative will not make any edits that would not be beneficial to the goals of Wikipedia. We will modify our editing behavior if any edits conflict with Wikipedia guidelines. Please contact the Project Coordinator, emjackson42 (talk) if any activities appear to go against this statement.
