The 2nd Wikimeetup Karachi in Karachi was held on Wednesday 24 May 2017 by Sindhi Wikipedians. A total of 5 attendees attended this meetup, with an important topic being discussed on publicity and development of the Sindhi-language Wikipedia.
About the meetup
[edit]The meetup was planned by Jogi Asad, and brought to to fruit by various Wikipedians on Sindhi Wikipedia, Urdu Wikipedia, as well as through social media invitations. Three Sindhi Wikipedians and one Urdu Wikipedia admin worked collaboratively to make happen this Wikipedia workshop and meetup possible. It was the first ever Sindhi Wikipedia Workshop.
Topics discussed included the Sindhi, Urdu and Punjabi Wikipedia projects; other Wikimedia foundation projects; the utilization of these projects in education and research; planning of strategies to conduct more such Wikipedia workshops in universities, colleges, and libraries in Sindh and in general all over Pakistan.
Agenda
[edit]- Finding new ideas, and spreading more awareness about Wikipedia.
- Discussion about the Sindhi Wikipedia and its issues.
- An overview of Wikipedia, and the various Wikimedia projects in Pakistani languages i.e. Sindhi Wikipedia, Urdu Wikipedia, Punjabi Wikipedia, Pashto Wikipedia and Kashmiri Wikipedia, and the Wiktionaries in these language Wikis, as well as other Wikimedia projects.
- Spreading awareness amongst people especially, students, teachers of universities and colleges, and schools to take part in Wikipedia projects, and obtain benefits from these projects in their education and research.
- Discussion of setting-up/re-initiating, reactivating the Wikimedia local chapter in Pakistan.

[edit]- JogiAsad ran a campaign through social media including Facebook, WhatsApp, Google Plus and other sites, inviting people to participate in the awareness workshop where they would have the opportunity to learn about Wikipedia and Wikipedia's sister projects. In this regard, Jogi Asad and Arif Soomro with the cooperation of Professor Aziz Kingrani approached Sindhi television news channel KTN News host Mustafa Jarwar and appeared on a live-on-air program Issues with Mustafa Jarwar on 20 May, 2017, to give an overview of Wikipedia including the Sindhi and Urdu editions of Wikipedia, in addition to inviting people to come participate in the workshop and meetup.
