Disable book-creation tooltip

[edit]

I sank my knees into the special pages too deeply, now trapped into the swamp that is Special:Book (do not click!). Since going there, I've been harassed and stalked by a neverending satan that manifests in front of my own very eyes in the form of a tooltip every time I hover over an article along with the WP:POPUPS (and/or page previews) I've already installed, powerless to prevent its reoccurence as these stupid gadgets are bible-illiterate. How do I exorcize those inner demons?

(TL;DR: How do I disable the tooltip to add an article to "my" Special:Book?) Aaron Liu (talk) 01:57, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Aaron Liu: There should be a "disable" link next to "Book creator" at the top of pages or at Special:Book. If you don't see it then try https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Special:Book&bookcmd=stop_book_creator. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:17, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I didn't see the link (maybe cuz I use so many scripts thanks to chiefing WP:S++, shamelss plug) but the second link worked. Aaron Liu (talk) 02:22, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean by 'your' Wikipedia page? Nobody owns article or pages here. ClaudineChionh (she/her · talk · contribs · email) 03:48, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you mean a Wikipedia article about you, we cannot tell unless you tell us who you are; but the chances are, No, because most people in the world are not notable in Wikipedia's special sense of the word. ColinFine (talk) 09:41, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to retire from mentoring

[edit]

Now that I'm semi-retired I'm trying to retire from being a mentor. However both times that I have tried have resulted in an error. Anyone know what's going on (or maybe someone with magical powers can reassign my mentors for me and remove my mentorship?)? ― Blaze WolfTalkblaze__wolf 03:39, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Blaze Wolf Perhaps some hang out at Wikipedia talk:Growth Team features/Mentor list? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:29, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Top left menu

[edit]

The menu on the top left of the page follows down the page when you scroll down the page is very irritating. Is it possible to have it stay on top. It distracts when reading the page. 80.217.141.231 (talk) 05:12, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Almost everybody who looks at this page is involved with the content of Wikipedia, not the user interface.
You might get a better response at WP:VPT. ColinFine (talk) 09:43, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Main menu" does not follow down for me. I guess you refer to "Contents". It has a "hide" link which moves it to a clickable icon at top of the page. If you make an account (free and easy with no requirement to give an email address or any information) then you can choose another skin than the default Vector 2022 at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering. All the other skins display the table of contents after the lead section as part of the article and not to the left. Skins also make other changes. I prefer Vector legacy. You can see an example here without an account: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia?useskin=vector. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:45, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why can’t I convert lira to USD for 2023?

[edit]

Hello,

I know very little about templates but I can see that TUR is in https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Template:To_USD/data/2023&action=edit

So can anyone help to explain why am I getting ‘Undefined year "2023"’ on Forest in Turkey#Forest products please? Chidgk1 (talk) 08:47, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see a "2023" line in Template:To USD round, which seems odd to me. (You'll need to "Edit (source)" to see the content - it normally shows only the documentation for a template).
It may be straightforward to add it, but I wouldn't try it myself. I suggest asking at Template talk:To USD round. ColinFine (talk) 09:50, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - have asked at Template talk:To USD round#Documentation for how to add new year? Chidgk1 (talk) 11:13, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How to nominate an anniversary in Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries?

[edit]

How to nominate an anniversary in Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries? AsteriodX (talk) 09:22, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

AsteriodX, there are instructions at Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries, starting with "How to contribute to the project". TSventon (talk) 09:59, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A new editor has added a substantial paragraph to the Quenya article (which is about one of Tolkien's constructed languages) on the matter of the copyright status of the language, and (less relevantly) of Tolkien's Tengwar script, one way that Quenya can be written (Latin script with diacritics is an alternative). I'd be inclined to delete the whole paragraph as basically off-topic for the article, both because Tengwar is a different article, and because it's not up to Wikipedia to discuss a language's copyright issues – after all, we don't want to fill thousands of articles (on books, films, you name it) with copyright discussions. Is it appropriate to have such a discussion in the Quenya article, and is there a statement of policy about this somewhere? Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:17, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Chiswick Chap: I've removed the latter quarter of it since it reads like instructions, effectively a manual and an illegal external link was added. It read like a copyright notice to instruct readers that it is copyright, don't touch, which is bollocks. That is not in our purview. scope_creepTalk 23:39, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Chiswick Chap: I see the editor has been blocked for 31 hours for being disruptive. The link he added makes me suspect he is a paid editor, sent in to instruct readers, what with copyright holder url embedded in the paragraph. I left a notice on his talk talk page and he got disruptive. Its the first time I've seen that kind of instruction to the reader (hands off its copyright) been left on Wikipedia. I suspect its not going to be the last. Really shabby behaviour. scope_creepTalk 01:32, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
His comments on the talk page were chaotic and aggressive, So it's all clearly inappropriate. Many thanks. Chiswick Chap (talk) 03:30, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Assistance Needed with Draft Approval: Silent Hands Support Inc.

[edit]

Hi,

I have created a draft for an organization called "Silent Hands Support Inc." (Draft:Silent Hands Support Inc.). It is still in draft status, and I would like to understand how I can improve it to meet Wikipedia's guidelines and get it approved. The draft includes multiple reliable sources and detailed information about the organization. However, I am unsure if there are specific issues or improvements needed.

Here is the link to the draft: Draft:Silent Hands Support Inc.

Can someone please review the draft and provide feedback or guidance on what changes are necessary for approval?

Thank you, 103.31.152.245 (talk) 13:35, 7 August 2024 (UTC)103.31.152.245 (talk) 13:27, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User:Farabikhanb Please ensure you are logged in when you contribute. The draft is unlikely to be accepted in its current form. Wikipedia is not interested in what organisations say about themselves in press releases. We want independent reliable sources to show the organisation is wikinotable. Also, you uploaded to Wikimedia Commons the logo of the organisation, saying it was your "own work". Is that really the case: did you personally create this logo and are now releasing its copyright worldwide to anyone to use for any purpose? Given that Silent Hands is registered in Australia, I'm surprised that none of the sources seem to be from there but that's a minor point. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:52, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Should I specify in a software infobox's "License" section if the software is not available to the public?

[edit]

The article in question is about China Railway's Ticketing and Reservation System, which obviously isn't available to the public. Should this be specified in the infobox, as I did? Félix An (talk) 13:58, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It is purely editorial decision. It depends on whether this information is considered useful for readers. Ruslik_Zero 19:13, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Help for publishing a translation from PT-BR

[edit]

Hello!

This is my first contribution to En-Wiki and I got a bit confused because it is quite different from the PT-Wiki.

I translated a page (User:Maosone/CazeTV) from a PT page CazéTV. I'd like to ask for help for publishing it if you guys think it is interesting. Please, let me know if I made any major mistakes or if it needs any corrections so I can improve it. If not, should I take any measures to delete it or is it done automatically? I don't want to get in trouble or being blocked here. Maosone (talk) 19:57, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article won't be deleted I think because it doesn't have "Draft:[insert title]". If it did, it would be deleted in about 6 months since the last edit was made to it (it is not deleted automatically, it is a manual process done by a person).
After reading your draft, it seems to meet notability guidelines from my point of view. Soafy234 (talk) 23:52, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Soafy234, I translated the article using Wikipedia’s translation tool, but when I tried to publish it, it was automatically moved to this space: User:Maosone/CazeTV. Now I am not sure what to do with it. Could you please advise on the next steps? Maosone (talk) 19:46, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Click on "Tools" then press "Move". The first dropdown box under "new title", select Draft or (Article) and then press move page
I would suggest submitting the draft for review if you are unsure if it would meet our Wikipedia language guidelines (I think someone once told me or I saw somebody said that guidelines of things vary from one language Wikipedia to another.
Directions on how to submit draft can be found here : Help:Your first article#Ask for a review Soafy234 (talk) 19:57, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
