Username
[edit]I think I should change my username to my actual name. I have been the subject of newspaper articles in Fiji as President of the Court of Appeal, Fiji. I understand that these arucles won't be captured unless my username is my actual name. I would like to have a brief reference to my legal career in Fiji stretching over 20 years published in WIKIPEDIA. Lonelylawyer (talk) 04:46, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- If you are referring to the content of User:Lonelylawyer/sandbox, that is not a Wikipedia article. And nor, were it posted into article space, would it be accepted as one. I'd recommend reading Wikipedia:Autobiography before proceeding any further. AndyTheGrump (talk) 04:55, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

- @Lonelylawyer: I do not know why you have the impression that
[this article] won't be [published] unless my username is my actual name
, but that is absolutely not true. Neither your username, nor your actual identity, has any bearing on whether that article will be accepted.
- What does help getting an article accepted is having independent, reliable sources describing the subject of the article (you) at length, and having the article reflect what those sources say. Looking around online, I did find a few sources, but I am not convinced the Wikipedia criterion of notability is met.
- If we do end up having an article about you, it should definitely mention your role in several court cases of press crackdowns during the 2006-2014 years of Bainimarama dictatorship. See Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. TigraanClick here for my talk page ("private" contact) 08:19, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Lonelylawyer: The user name of an editor has no bearing on any rules about reliability or the use of reliable sources. We will not accept input based on your user name. If you make an assertion about yourself, it must be cited to a reliable source. If you need to say something about yourself, you must do it outside of Wikipedia, in a reliable source. You (or any editor) may then cite the reliable source. The use of a real name provides no additional rights or legitimacy to your inputs. It does impose one additional responsibility: you are not permitted to use a real name unless you certify that the name is yours. -Arch dude (talk) 14:43, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
Final title of deleted article
[edit]There used to be an article about a minor Peanuts comic character at the title 5 (Peanuts), but it was later moved and eventually deleted. What was the final title of that article, and why was it deleted? The earliest log entry for 5 (Peanuts) involves the article being moved to 555 95472. However, both of that title's visible log entries refer to G8 speedy deletion, without mentioning what the target was, either at that time or some point in the past. I don't understand why a later pagemove wouldn't appear in the log, and I can't imagine what other title anyone would use for this character's article. 175.39.61.121 (talk) 07:50, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- IP editor, I think the final title was probably List of minor characters in Peanuts, deleted after an AfD discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of minor characters in Peanuts (2nd nomination). TSventon (talk) 09:44, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- It was moved to 555 95472, where the original article's deleted revisions still are. It was later redirected to List of minor Peanuts characters per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/555 95472; that list was moved to List of minor characters in Peanuts, which - as TSventon says - was deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of minor characters in Peanuts (2nd nomination). There was another version at 555 "5" 95472 (Peanuts). —Cryptic 15:16, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

Submission for inclusion in Wikipedia
[edit]How do I submit a person to be included in Wikipedia? I know someone who is extremely noteworthy in the classical accordion world.

Help to reorder sources
[edit]In List of youngest birth mothers, line August 13, 2015, in the column Description, some sources are randomly added. Now the order is 186, 184 and successively 185, 184, 187, 188. The correct order should be 184, 186 and 184, 185, 187, 188. I have attempted to reorder but I get <ref> error. How can I do? 2001:B07:6442:8903:1850:7014:28F:5C20 (talk) 13:25, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, IP user. That article is subject to pending changes review, so any edits by an anonymous editor would not appear until somebody has approved them. In this case, your edit was reverted by Bungle, because the order of citations is of no significance at all, and there is no point in reordering them. --ColinFine (talk) 17:08, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
Have I included sufficient citations to justify the removal of the BLP sources template?
[edit]I've added 12 citations to the Ronit Kark article and am trying to decide whether that justifies the removal of the BLP sources template. Help:Maintenance template removal#When to remove provides various circumstances which justify the removal of the template, the first of which is "When the issue has been adequately addressed". In this particular case, has it been adequately addressed? Thanks
Misha Wolf (talk) 14:34, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Misha Wolf, I don't think the issue has been adequately addressed. You've added plenty of sources, but is wasn't their quantity that was the problem, it was their quality. You need sources to reliable independent sources with extensive discussion of the subject. Apart from no. 8, which I can't judge because I can't read Hebrew, I don't see any like that. the first seven are all written by the subject herself; some of the others mention her but don't discuss her. Maproom (talk) 15:11, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, @Maproom, but I'm puzzled by that. I thought that the purpose of citing sources was to prove that statements made in an article are true.
- The BLP sources template causes this text to be displayed: "This biography of a living person needs additional citations for verification. Please help by adding reliable sources. Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately, especially if potentially libelous or harmful."
- Surely the key word above is "verification". Considering statements such as "X is employed by organisation Y in role Z" or "K received award L from organisation M for activity N", what a citation does is prove that the statement is true (subject to the usual caveats about the reliability of information on the Web).
- Misha Wolf (talk) 15:30, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Misha Wolf There are 2 purposes for sources in Wikipedia.
- Demonstrating that the material is verifiable
- Demonstrating that the topic of the article is notable.
- Sources that are not independant can be used to verify uncontroversial statements like "X works for Y", although they are not preferred. However, they do not contribute to demonstrating the topic is notable - by which Wikipedia means not just worthy of note, but also, has been taken note of by reliable sources which are unconnected with the topic of the article. Create a new page with the same name of another one submissed before but not yet approved
[edit]I was wondering if it was possible to create a new page for submission that have the same name of another one not already approved because of the timing and quantity of information. I have created a new page that have less information and reference about a living artist and I wanted to see if this could be submitted before the other one. AR Reisinger (talk) 14:55, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- @AR Reisinger Is it about the same person? Or two different people with the same name? Did you create both drafts? ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:01, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Apparently they've created three different versions of this article - Draft:Andrés Reisinger (submitted for review), User:AR Reisinger/sandbox (most recently edited) and User:AR Reisinger/sandbox/Andrés Reisinger. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 15:09, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- @AR Reisinger, if you are not Andrés Reisinger, you need to change your user name, as has already been explained on your talk page. Also you haven't complied with WP:PAID. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 15:06, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- AR Reisinger, creating multiple drafts about the same subject is a recipe for disaster. You can confuse reviewers, and well-meaning editors who want to help improve the drafts, and yourself. I strongly recommend that before you do anything else, you decide which is your preferred version, and delete or blank the others. Maproom (talk) 15:14, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- @AR Reisinger Why would you want to submit the draft that has less information? David10244 (talk) 05:12, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
Question from Moune0659
[edit]Hello,
I'm asking for your help because I'm stuck in the process of editing and correcting Wikipedia.
I corrected the text of an article (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Hussein_Melikov%27s_House) on 16 May 2021 at 13:17 in good faith and I asked an acquaintance to change the title because I was not authorised to do so, but I have just had proof that I had made a mistake.
I would obviously like to rectify this mistake but I can't.
Can someone please help me to correct this error
- either by reloading the version of 8 September 2020 at 12:51, no longer being in contact with the person who changed the title?
- Or by changing the title of the article from "Hussein Melikov's House" to "Tigran Melikov's House"? I will then take care to rectify the article.
Sincerely Moune0659 (talk) 15:00, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Courtesy link: Hussein Melikov's House - 199.208.172.35 (talk) 15:03, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Moune0659, unwinding your edits won't be easy, as six other people have edited the article since you did. Renaming it would be easy, but why would you want to rename it to "Tigran Melikov's House"? The article doesn't mention anyone named Tigran. Maproom (talk) 15:20, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- All instances of Tigran were changed to Hussein by the OP last year; they made a talk page post about the issue here, in French. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 16:14, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hello,
- I created a discussion page on 28 April 2021 at 16:53 for the person who wrote the article on the Melikov house to react. I thought then and in good faith that this house belonged to my grandfather Hussein. Unfortunately this person did not react and I could not talk to him. So, as I told you before, I changed the article and an acquaintance of my son changed the title for me because I was not allowed to do so.
- There was a double confusion about this article:
- - the street number → Tigran and Hussein owned a house at 19 Voronstovkaya at different times. The problem is that they were not the same houses because the street numbers had changed in the meantime.
- - On the name and surnames → Hussein (my grandfather) and Tigran were both called Melikov but had no family connection. The house was known to the people of Baku as "Melikov House" without the first names being specified.
- I have recently learned where exactly my grandfather Hussein Melikov's house was located and it is not the one in the article I corrected. I would like to fix my mistake and give Tigran Melikov his house back.
- Also note that when I corrected the article, I only corrected the paragraph on the names of the owners but I did not correct the paragraphs on the history and architecture which are not my responsibility. So I don't understand why it is so difficult to go back (to 8 September 2020 at 12:51)
- You can also see that the same article written in Azerbaijani, Ukrainian and Russian was put back to the original state (Tigran Melikov's house) without me even asking them.
- I look forward to reading you,
- Sincerely.
- (I use translation software. If you can't understand some sentences, don't hesitate to tell me). Moune0659 (talk) 12:45, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

"Gay"/ "Openly gay"
[edit]Is there any guidance on wording when describing living individuals? Thanks S C Cheese (talk) 17:50, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- See WP:BLPCAT and WP:RS. Shantavira|feed me 18:37, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- I'm fairly confident that we don't have explicit guidance on the use of "openly" in "openly gay". The topic was discussed a couple months ago at WT:BLP#Is "Openly" in "openly gay" redundant? One takeaway is that editors are likely to object to widespread removal of the word "openly" without discussion. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 19:04, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- It would depend on context I think. For example, if you were talking about someone notable who came out today and lives in the UK, openly gay is kinda redundant. However if you were talking about the same person who came out in the 1960s/70s/80s, then openly gay is not redundant because of historical attitudes towards homosexuality in that time period. Of course it it's not just historical usage where it is not redundant, there are countries where being gay can get you arrested or sentenced to death. Sideswipe9th (talk) 19:11, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, all. S C Cheese (talk) 20:14, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- It's certainly possible to be "privately gay", but that isn't something one would say in an article. If sexual orientation is known, then assume it's "open". This reminds me of "secretly dead". ~Anachronist (talk) 06:44, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

How do I deal with a citation to a terminated YouTube channel?
[edit]I saw a citation of Gilvasunner, a YouTube channel which hosted many video game music rips, in the article for Korobeiniki. Of course, while it is acceptable to cite this (though it is disputable, as it is a primary source,) the YouTube channel has since been terminated due to DMCA strikes against the channel, and the videos are indefinitely (if not permanently) unavailable.
How should one go about this? Should I mark it as dead? Explodicator7331 (talk) 18:06, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
