Question regarding sexual misconduct allegations in a Wikipedia bio

[edit]

Earlier today I edited the page of someone who has been accused on multiple occasions of sexual harassment, and who has responded to these allegations on both occasions. His page can be found here: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Jacy_Reese_Anthis

Specifically, I wrote:

"In December 2012, Anthis withdrew from Brown University following allegations that he had sexually assaulted female members of his co-ed fraternity. Anthis characterized these allegations as "false" and a "witch hunt" in a letter he published in the Brown Daily Herald.[15] In March 2019, the Center for Effective Altruism stated that they had "received reports from several parties about concerns over several time periods," leading Anthis to publicly apologize on the forum for the Center for Effective Altruism for making "some people uncomfortable with my online romantic advances."[16][17]"

My version can be found here: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Jacy_Reese_Anthis&oldid=979257521

These changes were later reverted, with the editor (Jmill1806) writing: "This has been discussed extensively. Blog posts are not WP:RS, and it's not encyclopedic content for a WP:BLP. Take it to talk if you want."

Source 17 was a blog post, but sources 15 and 16 were both from more official sources; the first was a letter published in the Brown Daily Herald by Anthis; the second was a public apology written by Anthis. This information is highly relevant, both because there have been multiple allegations made over the course of several years, which Anthis has acknowledged, and because Anthis works in ethics, making the allegations particularly relevant to his line of work. To ensure Anthis' page is maximally accurate, transparent, and relevant, it seems important to include this information.

I would be curious to know whether I am wrong about this, and if so, exactly why these allegations should not appear on Anthis's page. Thank you!

@Hobbes901: open a discussion with the reverting editor Jmill1806 on the article's talk page Talk:Jacy Reese Anthis. That editor mentions an "extensive discussion", but not where that discussion occurred. If you cannot reach a consensus, follow WP:DISPUTE. -Arch dude (talk) 01:09, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

My user page

[edit]

How can I get the templates aligned on my user page, meaning looking like a rectangle/square put together, instead of looking like a weird polygon shape, as seen here? Gioguch (talk) 02:35, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm unsure, but probbably wrapping them in a table (with a transparent background and no borders) should help. Victor Schmidt (talk) 07:34, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sidney Armus/Bobby Carnavalle

[edit]

When looking up the cast of Postcards From The Edge there is a picture of Bobby Carnavalle but with the name Sidney Armus. Sidney Armus was born in 1924 and has since past away. Bobby Carnavalle is gorgeous, much younger and still among us living. Just information as needed. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.114.63.206 (talk) 03:41, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure where you're looking, but I don't think it's a Wikipedia article. While Sidney Armus is listed at IMDb's page for the movie, our article Postcards from the Edge (film) does not list him, probably because he is not one of the top-billed roles. Bobby Cannavale (note spelling) is not in the movie at all and his picture is not in our article. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 07:07, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can you look at my draft

[edit]

Hey there, I have finished a draft about a college Draft:Pakundia Adarsha Mohila College. I have provided two reliably sourced references. They are in Bengali language though. I don't know if two references are enough. I have submitted the draft anyway. I would be glad if you look at it. Userths (talk) 07:01, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Userths Sources do not need to be in English(it's nice, but it's not required). Generally a subject must have significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources, which usually means three or more. The article must do more than just tell about the college and its offerings; it must summarize what the independent sources say about it, in order to establish that the college meets Wikipedia's special definition of a notable organization. 331dot (talk) 07:38, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Tshenglish: the draft was submitted yesterday. The current review backlog is at over two monts. Please be patient. Victor Schmidt (talk) 08:57, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Recently, a user named Ales sandro has change the title of Ukrainian TV program Kiev Day and Night to the native language "Kyiv". Nonetheless, in some sources alters to "Kiev" Day and Night, they lead to controversial dispute on the article. For example, The capital of Ukraine is written in Kiev (the international accepted standard of writing). I need the page to be protected. The Supermind (talk) 10:24, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@The Supermind: Note this is being discussed at WP:ANI#Mass Kyiv disruption. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 10:51, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Break

[edit]

When monitoring a long discussion on a Project web page, Ive noticed that "break" is used to provide a pause and a place to restart and insert discussion and not have to start at the beginning of the thread. How is that done. I once knew but have forgotten howBuster7  12:48, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Arbitrary breakpoint

[edit]

@Buster7: I've inserted a level 3 section heading just above by typing === Arbitrary breakpoint === on a new line, which can be thought of as creating a subsection within the level 2 section you created for this thread (== Break ==). This shows up in the table of contents of the page and can be gotten to with WP:Help desk#Arbitrary breakpoint or with the URL https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Help_desk#Arbitrary_breakpoint . —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 14:23, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Early church politics

[edit]

Councils held by Constantine such as Nicea etc. ,were attended by ROMAN CATHOLIC bishops ,approved by Eusebius , Origin and other of Constantine's " lap-dogs. The ROMAN CATHOLIC church is NOT Christian , but made up from Arians , Pagans , and Eusebius 'idea of christianity. Mary was NOT introduced as co-redemptrix at Nicea , but 100 years later.---This is NOT Biblical according to TEXTUS RECEPTUS. Roman Catholic church " history" fails to cover the works of true CHRISTIANS , men and women--and this includes Magdeline , who worked tirelessly in the area of Judea .all her life.) who followed Christs directive in Mark 16--15 to the end.

Roman Catholicism is NOT ,"traditionally the oldest form of CHRISTIANITY, The Roman Catholic church ,CONTINUALLY ,AND FOREVER---IGNORES , deliberately , the first 300 years of the TRUE Christianity that Christ taught. and goes straight to Constantine's Councils , which Both HE , Eusebius , Origin and other PAGANS WRONGLY TEACH AS TRUTH. You cant just IGNORE HISTORY and substitute it with LIES.---especially ,when the POPE calls Jesus a liar ,on TV.( 2018) Peter was NEVER the first pope . , James the elder was the first Christian Church leader , Mary is in her grave awaiting her SAVIOURS return Luke 1-46-47, only Jesus can resurrect the dead, not the Pope — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:FEA8:929F:BE50:34DB:ADFA:FF9A:9E13 (talk) 14:09, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a question about using or editing Wikipedia? -Arch dude (talk) 14:15, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, anonymous user. It's clear that you are passionate about what you see as a misrepresentation, presumably in one of our articles - maybe History of Christianity. The place to bring this up is the article's talk page - but what you need to do then is to open a discussion with other editors who may have a different view from yours, back up your position with references to reliable published sources, and attempt to reach consensus. Your are not going to reach consensus by coming in shouting "LIES!". An important thing to bear in mind is that the mission of Wikipedia is to summarise and report what all the major reliable sources say about a subject, not some elusive "truth" (See Verifiability.) Also take note that Wikipedia is not an appropriate place to try righting great wrongs. --ColinFine (talk) 17:27, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I can't see radio buttons for diffs in Firefox

[edit]

I am no longer able to see the radio buttons for diffs in the page history. I can view a diff if it's in my contributions, but the radio buttons have disappeared. My browser is Firefox 80.0.1, but it works in Chrome and Safari. Does anyone know the cause of this problem? —Naddruf (talk ~ contribs) 18:30, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Naddruf: Post this question at WP:VPT which is where technical issues are discussed. RudolfRed (talk) 19:02, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Changing Username

[edit]

Hello! I've been waiting a week now for my username to be changed, but I have not received any mail. How long will it take, or could it be that I did something wrong? I couldn't find an answer to this anywhere. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiSAMvh (talkcontribs) 19:03, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@WikiSAMvh: Which venue did you file your rename request at? Jackmcbarn (talk) 19:09, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiSAMvh: This help desk post is the only edit your account has made. Easiest is to just abandon it and start with a new account with your prefferred name. RudolfRed (talk) 19:39, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@RudolfRed: No, that's the only edit ever made on this wiki, but there's a few edits on other wikis. See m:Special:CentralAuth/WikiSAMvh. Jackmcbarn (talk) 19:40, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Thanks for the info and the correction. RudolfRed (talk) 20:10, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Jackmcbarn: I did it at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:GlobalRenameRequest/status (I did go to Wikipedia:Changing username)
@WikiSAMvh: Okay, that goes into a private queue that not everyone can see the status of. I sent an email to renamers@wikimedia.org asking someone who can see it to let you know here what the status is. Jackmcbarn (talk) 20:19, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Jackmcbarn: Thank You! My username is changed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Samhassert (talkcontribs) 20:28, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with excerpt

[edit]

In sustainable energy, the subsection on solar heating uses an excerpt. Unfortunately, the article on solar heating uses the same template {{sustainable energy}} as the sustainable energy article, leading to this template being duplicated. Two questions: are we supposed to use excerpts of one article in other articles? If this is okay, is there a way to remove the template? Femke Nijsse (talk) 20:21, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Femkemilene: I fixed it by wrapping it in noinclude tags: Special:Diff/979445365 and Special:Diff/979445577. Jackmcbarn (talk) 20:26, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism on "Bill Hader" page

[edit]

Hello,

I just noticed that there were 10 non-constructive edits, blatantly replacing dates and miscellaneous information with incorrect ones, made on 20 September 2020 on the page for Bill Hader by the User (IP address): 2A00:23C6:D88B:A501:5896:9E07:1927:674C

I have never had to file a report for vandalism on Wikipedia before, and the site says to send messages to the User, but since it is an IP address this didn't seem like it would be beneficial. Also, another user has left a message for this user for making non-constructive edits on Bruce Wayne (Dark Knight Trilogy) wiki page.

I was wondering if you would be able to file the vandalism report for me against this IP address.

Update: Someone reverted the edits, but I still think it may be best to report Vandalism anyway.

Thank you, --GriegMachine8 (talk) 01:11, 21 September 2020 (UTC)GriegMachine8[reply]

I have issued a warning. Thank you for alerting us to this issue. -Ad Orientem (talk) 01:17, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ad Orientem: It looks as if you warned the wrong IP. The editor whom you warned had made just one edit, which was to resolve the infobox syntax error which had been caused by the previous vandalism. David Biddulph (talk) 01:22, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There is usually no point in reporting vandalism to WP:AIV unless it continues after adequate warning. You can find advice at WP:Vandalism. --David Biddulph (talk) 01:19, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@David Biddulph: Good catch. Thanks. The real vandal ip has not edited since their most recent warning. If they resume vandalizing I will block them. -Ad Orientem (talk) 01:27, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
