Want some help...

Yunshui, I just don't know what has happened-even three to four days back it was fine and no user has even tampered with the references, but suddenly I see that the reference list of Bade Achhe Lagte Hain is showing many ref errors. I tried to fix them but in vain. Could you please help me? --Tamravidhir (talk) 12:18, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Template:Cite web won't display properly without a |last= parameter. The easiest fix is just to replace the last and first parameters in those references with |author= instead. I've done one, here, to show you what to do. Yunshui  12:31, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Thank you Yunshui! ^_^ I will fix the rest... --Tamravidhir (talk) 12:42, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
You may want to consider installing this script first, which might make the process easier. Yunshui  12:44, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
I have actually finished fixing the errors. The article no more has any ref errors. --Tamravidhir (talk) 12:51, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Nice work - good stuff, in fact! Yunshui  12:53, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Ha ha! Thank you! Actually I working on this article so that it becomes a GA. I have requested a copy edit, but they are taking a lot of time. I actually have to add some more referenced info. What to you think? Can it, after a copy edit, become a GA? --Tamravidhir (talk) 12:56, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

It needs some work, but a GA in the future isn't unfeasible. After a brief skim through, I'd say that:
  • the lead section needs a rewrite (the sources there should be moved elsewhere in the article) to meet MOS:LEDE
  • there's a lot of citation redundancy
  • the images (especially the cast image) should be checked, as I'm not sure they all meet the fair use criteria
  • the Music section needs better sourcing
  • the cast list doesn't seem to meet WP:NLIST and WP:Source list
  • some of the wording could be more neutral; the plot section in particular could use a bit of work.
Certainly there's a possible future GA there, though. Hope that helps. Yunshui  13:08, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Suppose there's a picture of living people posted in some social networking site by a production company...Is it non-free/free? --Tamravidhir (talk) 13:13, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
I will be extremely, extremely extremely happy if you help me...if you resolve these issues. Please would you help me? Please...don't say no! It will be a boon! Please Yunshui! --Tamravidhir (talk) 13:15, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

@MirrorFreak: You will help me? Really? God! Can't believe my eyes! You will really? --Tamravidhir (talk) 13:22, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Um, yeah I will. Do you need a copyedit?Mirror Freak My Guestbook 13:24, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
@MirrorFreak: Not just a copy edit, but actually...I need someone to be with me and help me in resolving the issues Yunshui has mentioned above. Then we may together (or I or you) nominate for GA. I want it to be GA...I will do anything for it...will you help me MirrorFreak? --Tamravidhir (talk) 13:27, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
This could work out well for both of you... @Tamravidhir: if I'm honest, editing Indian TV articles is a real turn-off for me (I'm not a fan of TV in general, as it happens), but it looks as though you've got yourself some assistance already. @MirrorFreak: this is a good chance for you to redeem yourself in the eyes of the community and do some article editing: I've outlined the major issues above, so you know what needs doing - just knuckle down and make the necessary changes. If you get the page to GA, you'll be doing Wikipedia a huge service.
Oh and regarding the image question above - a picture posted on a social networking site is no more in the public domain than if it stays in the photographer's drawer. The photographer nearly always owns the copyright, and unless they've publicly declared that they release their work under a free licence, we have to assume that they still retain all rights to the image. Yunshui  13:30, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I'll help you. I may not be able to edit the article frequently because I'm also co-creating an article about a fish.Mirror Freak My Guestbook 13:31, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

So in that case that image should be deleted. Shouldn't it be Yunshui? If it should be then I would like it to delete for nomination myself. --Tamravidhir (talk) 13:33, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

I think it probably should, yes. If you want me to (since you're the person who originally added it) I can delete it under CSD G7 (uploader requests deletion). Yunshui  13:36, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Please delete that image Yunshui...I am planning to go through the various copyright laws thoroughly.--Tamravidhir (talk) 13:38, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Image nuked (I've also removed it from the article, so as not to generate an image error there). Yunshui  13:41, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks Yunshui! And suppose there's a lot of information about a specific episode, which generated a lot of hype, in this article. I feel that it can be best explained by a 30 seconds video (and I think that such a criteria exists). I can upload such a video, na? --Tamravidhir (talk) 13:45, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
A video you made, or a video someone else made? If it's the latter, almost certainly not, I'm afraid. In any case, text would almost always be preferred for the purposes of explanation. Yunshui  13:52, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
But what if it is difficult to understand the fact without something visual. As I feel that this part is such a part. --Tamravidhir (talk!) 14:00, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Page Protection

Hey Yunshui. I was wanting to know if you would please temporarily semi-protect the Worm article. It has been the target of increasing recent vandalism. Thanks, Mirror Freak My Guestbook 14:25, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

It's probably not worth it. The general rate of vandalism there isn't particularly high (it averages about one instance of vandalism every two weeks, going back through the summer), and even recently it hasn't been very heavily targeted (two vandals in the last week, both quickly reverted). No reason to apply protection in this case. Yunshui  14:32, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for looking into it!Mirror Freak My Guestbook 14:33, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Uh oh!

I don't know! What's all that grey grey stuff in the thumbnail of this file - File:Bade Achhe Lagte Hain teaser (for episode 166).ogv?:/ Tamravidhir (talk!) 12:56, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

Aspect ratio adjustment - the aspect ratio of the displayed image is different from the aspect ratio of the video. Don't ask me how to fix it; I know next to nothing about video embedding. Yunshui  13:20, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
Also, I'm really not sure about the legitimacy of using copyrighted video here - I've never seen any other TV article which included video clips of the programme. Yunshui  13:22, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
(Finally after two edit conflicts)
:::By the way let me tell you...your name always gives me a good good feeling. It reminds me of Breakfast at Tiffany's I.Y. Yunioshi (ha ha!) portrayed by Mickey Rooney...aaha! Those days...thank you Yunshui! ^_^ --Tamravidhir (talk!) 13:23, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
But why can't a soap opera article have such a video. Film articles have. It also has a fair use rationale. So why not? I am confused. :/ --Tamravidhir (talk!) 13:30, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
Good film, that (aside from Rooney's hideous racial caricature...). Regarding the video, I'm now really unsure about using it. It doesn't seem to me to meet points 5 or 8 of the non-free content policy - I don't see how a video of two people necking (bear in mind that the reader will have no idea who these individuals are) and a caption which most readers on en-wiki won't be able to understand serves to illustrate anything that isn't already explained in the text. I would suggest running it through NFCR before trying to use it in the article.
Which film articles? I don't know of any that use clips from the film in their content. Yunshui  13:33, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
Ah, there are a couple: American Beauty (1999 film) and Dr. No (film) both contain such clips. I'd still suggest NFCR first, though. Yunshui  13:39, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

(After an edit conflict) I understand...even Bengalis are caricatured sometimes in ways which is difficult to accept. They generalise certain typical things. But why generalise!? And I hate it. I understand. Anyway...actually if you go through the response section of the article you will see that it has been discussed in text and why I have used it that I have mentioned in the file's fair use rationale (please could you just check it?). And I know many film articles which have samples of films. You can find a whole lot of them here. Tamravidhir (talk!) 13:43, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

I'm kind of on the fence... your NFU rationale is well-argued, and I can see that there's a case for including the clip. My personal take is that I don't know the answer, which is why I recommend taking it to a community noticeboard. Yunshui  13:53, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
Do you know any user who has written a GA and can give me some professional help? --Tamravidhir (talk!) 13:58, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
Three to four non-free images which were uploaded by me are undergoing a review for days there. They have a huge backlog. Should I request a review now? Tamravidhir (talk!) 13:59, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
Might as well get it all rubber-stamped by the community before the GA goes through. You might want to talk to Crisco 1492, he knows loads about both the article improvement process and the use of media on Wikipedia - far more than I do, it's fair to say. Yunshui  14:04, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

Yunshui. pleased to make your acquaintance and congratulations on your first FA! I just completed reading it; well done. I see that the esteemed User:Gerda Arendt has nominated it for TFA, and I have just finished editing the blurb there, cutting it to fit the required size (feel free to make any adjustments). I have had the honour to work with one of your primary reviewers, the revered User:Curly Turkey, so I know the article must now be of the highest quality. I will be looking for it to appear on the Main Page! (Mine will be there tomorrow!) Cheers. Prhartcom (talk) 15:06, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi,

What was your problem with this edit? The edit summary was rather uninstructive. --Francis Schonken (talk) 11:58, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

Oh, you spotted that... Accidental rollback, sorry. I was trying to deal with the IP who had commented previously. No issue with your comments at all (I put them straight back in as soon as I realised what had happened); the only reason for the revdel is that that particular version of the page still contains the IP's BLP violation which I'm attempting to clear up. Yunshui  12:00, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
Seems like now you misappropriated my edit to yourself [1] --Francis Schonken (talk) 12:00, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
Since you made my original edit invisible... still seems like (for posterity) you said something which in fact I said --Francis Schonken (talk) 12:24, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
I would have thought the edit summaries (which I left in place for precisely that reason) indicate that the comment is yours, as does the signature. You make a comment... I revert it... I then revert myself - that would effectively mean that no change had been made to the page. I can't see how anyone would take your comment for something I wrote. Yunshui  12:30, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
It's impossible to give the diff currently, I mean the diff which attributes it to me. Here's me, just this morning, lecturing someone else on not to quote out of context for something said on Jimbo's talk page: [2] - Kind of impossible now for what I said on Jimbo's talk page myself... (sorry for being a bit principal on this) --Francis Schonken (talk) 12:47, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
Well, without intending to sound officious, what exactly would you like me to do? The only way I can see to satisfy your request for visible attribution in the page history is to restore the diff, along with the BLP violation therein. I don't consider that to be an appropriate solution, but I'm entirely open to enacting alternative suggestions. Yunshui  12:53, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
Incidentally, you can provide the diff (it's 629841210); it's just that no-one except administrators will be able to view it. Yunshui  12:56, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
OK, thanks, I accept being caught in some sort of "collateral" from the edit that needed to be removed from eyesight. Thanks for the explanation on the technical limitations of the system. --Francis Schonken (talk) 13:16, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

How to Remove Article Issues

Hello!

Thank you for offering to help. Back when our article, SpaceWorks Enterprises, was first published, it was flagged with a number of issues, including: -The topic of this article may not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines for companies and organizations. (June 2011) -This article needs additional citations for verification. (June 2011)

Since then, we have researched how to improve Wiki articles and have made numerous revisions. However, the issue warnings still appear at the top of our page. Is there anything else that we can do to get them removed?

Thanks so much! Ashley

Aruss88 (talk) 16:14, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

There seems to be sufficient evidence of notability, so I've gone ahead and removed the tags at the top of the page. It's worth noting, though, that tags like that aren't intended to demean the article - they're there so that other editors can easily see what needs work, and can make improvements. Yunshui  19:13, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi!

Thank you for looking into this for me and removing the tags. And I appreciate you explaining how tags work. I am new to editing Wiki pages, but I'm definitely learning! Thanks again.

Hi Yunshui. I wanted to report an issue to you. After repeated reversions and warnings User:Dillibabuji has been continuously adding unreferenced and controversial information to the article Krishna. Please help. What should be done now? --Tamravidhir (talk!) 17:06, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

A question

Yunshui, I had made a c/e request of Bade Achhe Lagte Hain last month. They have put it on hold as this is under construction but I want to withdraw the c/e request. Is it possible to do so? If yes, then but how? Tamravidhir (talk!) 03:54, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

I don't see why not; just add a note to the entry at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests saying that you want to withdraw the request. One of the GOCE guys will then archive it for you. Yunshui  07:00, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
I have withdrawn my request. Now let's see! Tamravidhir (talk!) 08:05, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Re: Jonaldo Smith

Of course, no problem. The Rednecks (professional wrestling) is also a hoax (appears to be copying parts of The Shield (professional wrestling)), and I've tagged it as such. I've gone though the rest of his edits; most of them appear to have already been sorted/cleaned up and I've gotten the ones that weren't. Appreciate the help. I might be able to help out - what's the article? Yunshui  07:01, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
The article is Cordulegaster bidentata. Thanks, Amanda Smalls 12:19, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
I've pretty much exhausted all the sources I can find (which are pretty paltry; most just duplicate the ICUN listing). Still, it's not looking too bad. I think you should combine the Population section into Distribution and habitat, since they basically contain the same information and use the same source. Other than that - nice job! Yunshui  12:51, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Well, no article is ever finished... but yeah, I'm beginning to wind down now too. Not bad for about an hour or so's work. I've tagged it for WikiProject Biology, so someone from there will probably add a rating soon, and then others can find it and go to work on it. Yunshui  13:21, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
I'm so bored. Is there anything I can help you out with?Amanda Smalls 13:23, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
I could use some help finding sources for an article on the martial artist Liu Baichuan - there's quite a long section on him here, but I need one or two more decent references to meet the notability criteria. If you want to do some searching, I wouldn't say to to a few more ideas. Yunshui  13:27, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Sure; what's the problem? Yunshui  09:27, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
I have recently created Everest_(Indian_TV_series). And till now I don't have a DYK to my credit. What about this DYK from this article:
"...that Ashutosh Gowariker's Everest has been shot 12,000 feet above sea level?"

Tamravidhir (talk!) 09:52, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
Looks like a decent hook, and the article seems to tick all the boxes for DYK. What you'll need to do is fill out the template at this link (it's pretty self-explanatory, save it, then add the new template to the DYK queue. Full instructions on how to perform the process are available here, and Rjanag's instructions are helpful too. Drop me a line once you've done it and I'll check everything for you. First of all thanks Yunshui for your praise. I would be more than glad to help you Amanda Smalls on an entomological topic (or a biological topic in general), although I have to warn you that I have only very limited time to work on Wikipedia (due to my actual scientific research).--ETF89 (talk) 17:52, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

I did wonder whether you were a professional entomologist... Always good to have experts on Wikipedia, no matter how limited their time. Best of luck with the real-world research. Yunshui  08:15, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

John Mattes

That comment by John was interesting. I asked him when I took it if it was OK to post on Wikipedia. Otherwise, I would never have bothered to take it in the first place. He later commented about it and I asked him to get a more recent photo uploaded to which I understood that he would do so but nothing happened. I've sent John an email asking what he wants to do. Thanks -Jim

Cheers Jim, thanks for letting me know. Drop me a note if I can do anything to help. Yunshui  09:42, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
If you want to delete my photo and restore the sunset photo, I'd support/encourage/welcome that. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 20:25, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
I've changed the image in the article, but the disputed photograph is, I now realise, on Commons - where I have no magic administrator buttons. Probably best if you request its deletion there yourself; as the uploader, I believe you're entitled to ask for it to be deleted (although again, I'm not a Commons sysop so I don't know exactly how they work there). Yunshui  08:12, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
Much appreciated. I'll request. Thanks Jim1138 (talk) 08:15, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

Congratulations on your first DYK! I'm jolly impressed by your work on the article - it's a very good piece of article creation, especially so considering that the show hasn't even aired yet! Once you've got Bade Achhe Lagte Hain to GA status, I'd consider Everest as a possible future candidate; wait until after the show's been on air for a while, though (you need a topic to be reasonably stable for a GA to go through). Yunshui  08:20, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
Thank you much Yunshui! I have already planned that after making BALH a GA I will also nominate Everest but only after BALH. And if to say then even if BALH wouldn't have been there then also I wouldn't have nominated it now. As after the telenovela goes on air new sections will have to added such Reception and new info will also have to be added. But you know what I fear after it goes on-air there will be a lot of unconstructive edits to this article. I fear that as this is what generally happens with the Indian television related article. That's why I tried to make sure that all available information is added so that people don't feel the need to add something, unless it has not been included. But let's hope for the best. Fingers crossed! And once again, thank you so so so so much Yunshui! :D ^_^ Tamravidhir (talk!) 08:48, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

Much as I'm delighted by my newfound status as Wikipedia's resident jester, I'm not sure what's occasioned your sudden hilarity... Thanks nevertheless, though. Yunshui  12:36, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

Congratulations! You have been awarded the Four Award for your work from beginning to end on bonshō. Peter Isotalo 17:21, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Congratulations on your recent FA. I am improving an article Akshay Kumar. It isn't complete and there's more to be done. Can you check its section 2000–2006 for POV issues? I wanted to know whether I am able to present facts in a neutral manner or not.--Skr15081997 (talk) 14:04, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

Let's have a look... Generally speaking, I think it's been handled pretty well; there's a clear attempt to present a balanced perspective. I'd be tempted to reduce the amount of direct quotes, and some of the claims about the success or otherwise of the films are backed up only by figures (which invites original research, since how is the reader to know whether a gross of 54,000,000,000 is average, successful or an abject failure?). In some of these cases, it might be better to either just quote the figures or to locate a source which specifically says, "the film was a commercial success". Overall, though, I don't see any glaring neutrality issues; it's a fairly well-balanced section. Yunshui  14:15, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for the comments. I will make the necessary changes to the article. I have been working on Akshay Kumar filmography for the last few months. I had nominated it for Featured List status in June. There one reviewer said that the lead had some peacock words and needed a thorough copyedit. I have addressed those issues but before renominating it I think I should consult someone who hasn't been involved with Indian filmographies. I would be glad if you read its lead section and tell me whether it is free from the issues mentioned above or it needs more work. I had opened a PR but sadly no one commented. I intend to work on more Indian film related articles and lists. Thanks.--Skr15081997 (talk) 15:29, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

It must be MariaJaydHicky’s IP. He/she changed ‘pop’ into ‘R&B’ on Marilyn Monroe (Nicki Minaj song), was similar with first diff, but second diff with fake summary ‘Comma not needed’, actually he/she changed it again. 115.164.90.157 (talk) 08:19, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Seems likely (same IP pool, similar GWAR editing pattern), so I've blocked for 48 hours. Yunshui  08:50, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

This is to inform you that Bonshō, which you nominated at WP:FAC, will appear on the Wikipedia Main Page as Today's Featured Article on 4 November 2014. The proposed main page blurb is here; you may amend if necessary. Please check for dead links and other possible faults before the appearance date. Brianboulton (talk) 22:37, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Huzzah! Thanks Brian. Looks good to me; I've made one minor change in the wording to improve the flow of the text, but other than that I'm pretty damn happy with it. Yunshui  07:35, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

Moving the article Megaponera analis to Megaponera

Hello Yunshui, I have recently been informed by --Animalparty-- that due to naming conventions for monotypic taxa, the article Megaponera analis should be moved to Megaponera, with M. analis as a redirect (since M. analis is the only species in the genus). Unfortunately I had already created the page Megaponera and since I did a couple of edits there before I am unable to move the article over there (at the moment Megaponera redirects to Megaponera analis, it should be the other way around though). I was wondering if you could do that for me? Thanks, --ETF89 (talk) 10:14, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

@ETF89: Done. I've merged the page histories (so that your earlier edits to the Megaponera page are preserved) and I've restored a paragraph from the original article about the genus to the top of the page; feel free to tinker about with it, or delete it entirely. Yunshui  10:40, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick help. I deleted the paragraph and added a short sentence at the beginning noting the genus/species status. Since I already talk in length about the taxonomic history in the taxonomy section I found it a bit redundant to have a whole paragraph about it at the top of the page. Thank you --ETF89 (talk) 11:07, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

Could you check this edit too? --TitoDutta 07:38, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

I don't think that merits RevDel under the policy - it's not a BLP violation, to my way of thinking. You're still welcome to include it in your oversight request, though; the oversight team may disagree with me. Yunshui  07:42, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
