[edit]Teahouse talkback: you've got messages!
[edit]Please note that all old questions are archived after 2-3 days of inactivity. Message added by Nick Moyes (talk) 15:33, 4 August 2020 (UTC). (You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{teahouse talkback}} template.
- Part of my answer to your question at the Teahouse about your fourth or fifth attempt in as many days to create Draft:Eugènie Jeanne Devolle was to suggest that you read "Wikipedia:Competence is required" to appreciate some of the concerns I have over your approach to contributing here. I will not accept another attempt from you to create a page on the mother of Coco Channel until you understand our WP:NBIO notability criteria, and how you need to meet them by finding proper sources of information about here. If you don't understand that (and this comment yesterday says a lot about your failure to understand), then I need to ask you to stop trying until you do. If you can't find Reliable Sources about someone, then simply give up the task until you can. Period! So, please slow down; get a few hundred smaller edits under your belt, and perhaps you should give The Wikipedia Adventure interactive tour a go. There are 15 badges to collect as you learn the basics of editing. Nick Moyes (talk) 15:42, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

August 2020: Note that most of your edits have been reverted
[edit]You seem very eager to make a contribution to Wikipedia; perhaps a bit too eager. Wikipedia has many rules you must follow in order to be a constructive editor. Here are some things to be aware of:
(1) any changes to article content require the proper citation of a reliable source. Please read about reliable sources and how to cite them properly. This means that, if something is common sense to you and you "just know it", you should only contribute it if you find and properly cite a reliable source which supports it.
(2) We all have favorite factoids which we discover and want to share, but sharing a factoid on Wikipedia may not be constructive (that is, it may not improve the encyclopedia). It is vital that you read over the article to see if it is actually in need of your contribution and will be a better article if you add it. Most factoids are too trivial to be of benefit to Wikipedia, like this addition. The more Wikipedia articles you read, the better you will know what makes a decent article and what content does not belong, per WP:NOTEVERYTHING.
(3) When you make an edit, use the to inspect your changes before publishing them. This prevents saving serial messes to an article's history as you did with E number.
(4) If you accidentally save a bad edit, you can undo it by going to the article's history and clicking the "undo" link for your bad edit, then publish the new version of the article with . Do not leave the bad edit for others to find and fix.
The advice you have been given regarding WP:The Wikipedia Adventure is something you should follow as soon as you can. It will help you in becoming a competent editor, although competence also comes from knowing when and where an edit is called for. Do not be over-eager to contribute to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is for reading and learning. If you find a deficit while reading an article, feel free to fix it, but try not to feel compelled to add to Wikipedia. It's big enough at the moment.
As for your draft article, Draft:Eugènie Jeanne Devolle, you appear to be convinced that she is notable, since, without her, Coco Chanel would not have lived. That is not how Wikipedia views notability, and it's why we have no article on the mother of Michelangelo or the mother of Saddam Hussein. Wikipedia defines notability as wide coverage in reliable, published, independent sources, sources which have not covered Eugènie Devolle. That is why your draft can never be an article in Wikipedia.
Thank you for your enthusiasm for Wikipedia, and happy editing.--Quisqualis (talk) 00:58, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
- I actually tried adding content but the whole thing messed up and the MSG photo went away . And thank you for the information about notability.Science Wiki Guy (talk) 04:45, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
