Shayetet 7 moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Shayetet 7, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Warning about off-wiki coordination

[edit]

Hi M Waleed. I've closed Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/InfoHistoric23#07 May 2024 with the only action being this warning. You admitted to off-wiki coordination with a now-blocked editor. I need you to understand that further off-wiki coordination will almost certainly lead to a block. Can you please confirm that understanding, and commit to avoiding such coordination in the future? Replaceable non-free use File:IAF Hornet Squadron 113 Logo.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:IAF Hornet Squadron 113 Logo.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Also:

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ainty Painty, I've uploaded logos for all PAF Squadron articles, with the exception of No. 29 Squadron PAF, No. 88 Helicopter Squadron PAF and Shooter Squadron PAF, so if ya can, then provide mw with the logos of these Pakistan air force squadrons so I can upload em too, btw my next task is to upload patches for these squadrons, if you're willing to help Waleed (talk) 07:36, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would love to help you with that. Ainty Painty (talk) 07:40, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you first provide me with the logos of the aforementioned squadrons @Ainty Painty? Waleed (talk) 08:02, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I also tried to find the logos of these squadrons but could not find them. I'll let you know when I find out. One more thing to be careful while uploading patches as most of the patches available on the internet are fan artwork. So it is very difficult to distinguish between official and artwork, the PAF media wing only publishes patches in press releases during military exercises. Ainty Painty (talk) 03:49, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ainty Painty, see the combat squadrons I've uploaded patches for all of them except the 28 squadron, can you check them out Waleed (talk) 04:12, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve 73rd Naval Special Operations Center (Ukraine)

[edit]

Hello, M Waleed,

Thank you for creating 73rd Naval Special Operations Center (Ukraine).

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

This is a well constructed article but there are too many sub-sections. Think about having a "Origination" or "Early History" section, and then a "History of engagements" that groups the subsections into larger sub-sections. At the moment, almost every engagement/actions is a subsection? thanks.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Aszx5000}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

@Aszx5000, done as you suggested Waleed (talk) 00:40, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Great job on that ! thank you for that. Aszx5000 (talk) 10:21, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As some additional feedback, the combined sections look better but the article does have a problem with repeated sentences using the same structure. For instance, the Full Scale Invasion section has 8 out of 12 sentences beginning with "The regiment...". When I am trying to improve this on articles, (as it's a common issue for military articles) I try to alternate between the following styles:

  • Date first: ("On July 15th, this thing happened....") ("Later in October, this other thing happened.")
  • Event first: ("During combat operations in X region, this thing happened.") ("While assaulting X objective, this thing happened.")

Just cycling those options through there alone will make the prose look better. As one additional point of feedback, it's almost certainly unnecessary information and undue weight to list each event in which a regimental-sized unit took casualties, including listing their names. While it's verifiable information, it's not necessarily important enough to include individual casualty information when Ukraine's total KIA count is in the tens of thousands.SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 02:14, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Non-attributed translations

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you translated text from uk:156-й_зенітний_ракетний_полк_(Україна) to 156th Anti-aircraft Missile Regiment (Ukraine). While you are welcome to translate Wikipedia content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing requires that you provide attribution to the contributor(s) of the original article. When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, this is supplied at a minimum in an edit summary on the page where you add translated content, identifying it as a translation and linking it to the source page. Sample wording for this is given here. If you forgot, or were not aware of this requirement, attribution must be given retroactively, for example:

NOTE: Content in the edit of 01:25, January 25, 2023 was translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at [[:fr:Exact name of French article]]; see its history for attribution.

Retroactive attribution may be added using a dummy edit; see Repairing insufficient attribution. It is good practice, especially if translation is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{translated page}} template on the talk page of the destination article. If you have added translated content previously which was not attributed at the time it was added, you must add attribution retrospectively, even if it was a long time ago. [edit]

As a Ukrainian myself, who is familiar with this unit and Ukrainian military in general, I find your changes to be false and misguided. I wonder what your sources are, because for me some parts are just ridiculous to read. Гліб Кошуков (talk) 09:49, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The sources are already cited and you're removing the sources that are cited, please provide in your edit summary about why you delete such changes, anyways happy day, Slava Ukraini Waleed (talk) 10:32, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Гліб Кошуков, former insignias are to be given in Infobox it's in many other units (Ukrainian and non Ukrainian), It's on English Wikipedia and not on Ukraine Wikipedia, hope you understand Waleed (talk) 10:33, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That was not a former insignia. I can add the former insignia, it was verified multiple times earlier, but the insignia you used there was a raw variation of the current insignia I added to replace that one. I suppose it was taken from the website of 14th regiment, but the thing is, the site is also in a raw state and currently in development, as I know that. Гліб Кошуков (talk) 11:07, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The sources are from Ukrainian media and lack a context. Some of the takes were removed from Ukrainian page of the unit exactly for this reason. Like info about 3-rd battalion, or about Eugen Karas being a commander of the regiment. The truth is, Karas is a commander of the 412th UAS battalion and it's called Raid now, not Nightingale. Karas never was a commander of 14th regiment nor has he a "Charlie" callsign. "Charlie" is a Ukrainian officer, who was a commander of 14th since very beginning and he still is a commander of 14th. Your source was a piece of interview from a Ukrainian TV news outlet, and yes, a guy there speaks about 14th regiment, but he's not a commander of that regiment. Гліб Кошуков (talk) 11:03, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Excuse me, I meant 413th regiment, not 412th. Didn't want to confuse you even more. Гліб Кошуков (talk) 11:14, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
413th battalion, Jesus... Гліб Кошуков (talk) 11:15, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciate your work and support for Ukraine, brother. I'm a newbie with this wikipedia stuff, so I found out I could contact you here only today xD. I added as much English sources as I could, and I removed only the parts, that were wrongly interpreted from Ukrainian media. Гліб Кошуков (talk) 11:12, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocking request

[edit]

@HJ Mitchell please unblock my IP address as I have not violated any wiki policy, neither spam nor the use of VPN, I think that this might've been a mistake as I've been here for the past 8 months with ten thousand edits, I'd get highly thankful for your help Waleed (talk) 09:37, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The block is unlikely to be aimed at you but you haven't given enough information for me to help you. Try resetting your router if you can or using a different WiFi connection to see if you get a different IP address. If not, i need to know the IP that's blocked. The block message will tell you that. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 10:35, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HJ Mitchell, when I try to edit it says that my IP is blocked when I go for details, it leads me to [2], and thus I can't edit, and I don't know the IP user (I mean the edits done by that IP have nothing to do with me) who has been blocked Waleed (talk) 12:19, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HJ Mitchell, it also says registered users are able to edit but somehow I am not able to Waleed (talk) 12:23, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That link is the piece of information I needed. The easiest thing to do is probably to grant you an exemption. Please carefully read the information linked below.
== IP block exempt ==

I have granted your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit the English Wikipedia through full blocks affecting your IP address when you are logged in.

Please read the page Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions. Inappropriate usage of this user right may result in revocation. I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 13:39, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot @HJ Mitchell, I really really appreciate it Waleed (talk) 14:31, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Public domain image released by Ukrainian gov Waleed (talk) 08:50, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In your hands personally? — Ирука13 08:59, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's public domain and was released in public domain by the order of the President of Ukraine as all insignias of all detachments/units/departments of all the ministries and departments under the Government of Ukraine are automatically released into public domain per the copyright law of Ukraine Waleed (talk) 09:17, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe. But I asked where exactly you got this image. — Ирука13 09:24, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh that, sorry I misunderstood, I'll provide link, the image is available by the source under Creative Commons 4.0 [3] although it's a public domain image released as Creative Commons Zero, as per it's original copyright holder, that being the Ukrainian government Waleed (talk) 10:35, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Iruka13 According to the Article 10 of the Law of Ukraine on Copyright and Related rights this work is in the public domain within Ukraine and possibly in other jurisdictions because it is one of the following:

(a) daily news or details of current events that constitute regular press information; (b) works of folk art (folklore); (c) official documents of a political, legislative or administrative nature (laws, decrees, resolutions, court awards, State standards, etc.) issued by government authorities within their powers, and official translations thereof; (d) State symbols of Ukraine, government awards; symbols and signs of government authorities, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations; symbols of territorial communities; symbols and signs of enterprises, institutions and organizations; (includes postage stamps) (e) coins and banknotes; (f) transport schedules, TV and radio broadcast schedules, telephone directories and other similar databases that do not meet the originality criteria and to which the sui generis right (a particular or special right) is applicable;

This image falls in D section and is thus public domain without a copyright holder. Waleed (talk) 10:51, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
