Article 'Characteristica Universalis' re. Leibniz

[edit]

Hi, not sure if you can help me out with this, but I see you edited the article in some way and I Really want to find the citation for the following two sentences:

The writings of Alexander Gode suggested that Leibniz' characteristica had a metaphysical bias which prevented it from reflecting reality faithfully. Gode emphasized that Leibniz established certain goals or functions first, and then developed the characteristica to fulfill those functions.

Really want to know where in Gode's writings this appears! Any help seriously appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Schoenborges (talkcontribs) 14:08, 5 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Normally, I inform the operator on his talk page about the bot's flagging. Since this time the operator's talk page is outside of enwiki, I'm posting here to inform that, per Mets501's final approval [1], I've granted this bot a bot flag [2]. Redux 16:09, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Automated message to bot owners

[edit]

As a result of discussion on the village pump and mailing list, bots are now allowed to edit up to 15 times per minute. The following is the new text regarding bot edit rates from Wikipedia:Bot Policy:

Until new bots are accepted they should wait 30-60 seconds between edits, so as to not clog the recent changes list and user watchlists. After being accepted and a bureaucrat has marked them as a bot, they can edit at a much faster pace. Bots doing non-urgent tasks should edit approximately once every tenseconds, while bots who would benefit from faster editing may edit approximately once every every four seconds.

Also, to eliminate the need to spam the bot talk pages, please add Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard to your watchlist. Future messages which affect bot owners will be posted there. Thank you. --Mets501 05:14, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bug when modifying templates

[edit]

I noticed that your bot modified the {{NZL}} template to add an interwiki link -- unfortunately, the addition was not done inside a noinclude tag, so the interwiki link is now included on all pages that use the template :-( Also, the additional newline causes problems when the template is used inside tables (and probably other situations). I fixed the NZL template but it looks like your bot has broken many others. Carl Lindberg 18:52, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I've also noticed that. It seems to be a bug in pywikipedia. I'll try to fix all occurrences. --VolkovBot 19:00, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The bot modified another bunch of templates last night and introduced similar errors. Two cleaned up examples: here and here. There are a number of others still existing. —Mrand TalkC 15:35, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Some of the edits being made by your bot are not helpful, [3] could you please disable it or have it generate a list which can be inspected by humans instead? Thanks, RFerreira 05:29, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is not a bot's fault but the quality of the article in :iu which is however a live and growing (although very slowly) wiki. There is no reason to discriminate against small wikis. --VolkovBot 10:42, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Section disappeared due to VolkovBot edit

[edit]

VolkovBot removed an entire section from the Starcraft II article for no apparent reason. A bug, perhaps? See the discussion.

Yes, it seems to be a glitch. Looks like bot got two different versions of this article (maybe from cache?). I don't know why it happened. --VolkovBot 09:48, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Привeт VolkovBot! Я возвращал (два раза) нормальную версию вручную на template:Infobox Journal, потому что эти интервики также включены на template:Infobox Journal/doc. Есть возможность только добавить интервики на template:Infobox Journal/doc? --JayHenry (talk) 06:50, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox Person

[edit]

Template {{Infobox Person}} uses a documentation subpage; all interwikis are intended to go on the subpage. There are a huge number of templates that use a documentation subpage in this manner. When your bot edits a template, it should look for a /doc page and edit that instead. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 20:45, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Misbehaviour by Volkovbot

[edit]

VolkovBot vandalized http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Leibniz_and_Newton_calculus_controversy. When I left a message on ru:User talk:VolkovBot as requested the page in Russian was incomprehensible and my signature Xxanthippe (talk) 22:59, 6 April 2008 (UTC) appeared as my IP number. Continued editing gave odd text behaviour and I had to reboot my computer to get things working again. I think this bot should be blocked on the English Wiki until its problems have been sorted out. Xxanthippe (talk) 22:59, 6 April 2008 (UTC).[reply]

This is NOT vandalism and not a problem at all but interwiki link to Bengali wikipedia. Instead, undoing correct interwiki may be considered vandalism. --VolkovBot (talk) 06:41, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Abejar

[edit]

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Abejar, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Done. You could have it done by yourself. It's necessary to fix incorrect interwiki links in all language versions at once, otherwise bots will restore the link, and it would be just a waste of time undoing their edits again and again. --Volkov (?!) 05:33, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Problem at .bss

[edit]

Hi. This bot recently (re)added a bad interwiki link to nl:Instituut ter Bevordering van de Surinamistiek (Institute for the promotion of Surinamese) to the .bss article, presumably because nl:BSS is a redirect to nl:Instituut ter Bevordering van de Surinamistiek. As it happens, VVVBot and SieBot made the same mistake not long ago.

Could your bot please be told to take more notice of the dot in ".bss", or to simply skip that particular article? Thanks for your attention (and for the bot — this minor nuisance is a small price to pay for such useful automation). Cheers, CWC 14:31, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I spent some time putting in some obviously sensible interwiki links this afternoon. You removed them without explanation. See, for example, your edit at http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Jaspar&curid=23663698&diff=302954589&oldid=302949041

Please put them back without delay. I don't have time to waste...

-- Hebrides (talk) 14:50, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is caused by disambig status mismatch. de: and fr: pages are disambigs and en: page is not. Bots are supposed to de-link pages if disambig status mismatch is found. --Volkov (?!) 19:24, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for replying so quickly. English Wikipedia is unusual in classifying {{surname}} and {{given name}} pages as different from {{disambig}} pages. The same applies to other set index articles. This was discussed at some length here and the outcome was a change to MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage, adding tags like {{surname}} and {{given name}} in round brackets in the Set index article templates section at the bottom.
Please make sure your bot is correctly using MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage to determine which English pages should be permitted to link to disambiguation pages on Wikipedias in other languages. Let me know when this has been corrected – I will postpone creating any more interwiki links until then. Regards, Hebrides (talk) 05:24, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I can see from the code in wikipedia_family.py, the bot should automatically look for this page. If it does not interpret it correctly, something should be done for all interwiki bots. The issue has been logged in sourceforge ID # 2824133. Hope it will be fixed soon. --Volkov (?!) 08:39, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pac-10 Conference

[edit]

Your bot renamed these pages: es:Pacific-10 Conference -> es:Pacific Ten Conference
fr:Pacific-10 Conference -> fr:Pacific Ten Conference
it:Pacific-10 Conference -> it:Pacific Ten Conference

See: http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Pacific-10_Conference&curid=78455&diff=336577821&oldid=336557308

The entity in question is named "Pacific-10" and NOT "Pacific Ten". These changed are in error and should be reverted. See http://www.pac-10.org/ where you will not find the word "Ten" in use, only the numeral. Pasadena91 (talk) 16:09, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A bug

[edit]

In this edit[7], VolkovBot deleted a bunch of valid interwikis (albeit outdated, the links are mostly redirects to new locations). A brief look at recent contributions suggests that other iw deletions by the bot are also erroneous: see e.g. [8], [9]. Could it be that the bot does not recognize non-English syntax for redirects? — Emil J. 15:40, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is not a bug. It was made intentionally while processing interwiki conflicts. Redirects caused conflicts and prevented iw bots from adding/updating interwiki links for quite a long period of time (if you see revision history). Don't worry, my bot (or any other iw bot) will restore all necessary (direct) links in the next run. --Volkov (?!) 15:23, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I see, thanks for the explanation. — Emil J. 18:05, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Now I don't see any more. It's been over a week since the iw were removed. The bot finally revisited the article yesterday, but it only restored the ru interwiki[10]. Why didn't it restore also the other iw it deleted (an, de, es, ka, ko, no, os, tr), and when is it going to do it? It starts to feel like waiting for Godot. It sort of defeats the whole purpose of the interwiki system when the links are missing for such extensive periods of time.—Emil J. 12:25, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Those languages that are not added may still cause interwiki conflicts due to multiple redirects. I will double check. --Volkov (?!) 16:49, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you.—Emil J. 17:55, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

VolkovBot removed these interwiki language links to the Mameluke article: (diff). These links look valid - is there any reason they were removed? Nimur (talk) 14:49, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

These were redirects that caused interwiki conflicts (see also the topic above). Don't worry if the bot removes redirects. This is not a bug, nor error. It's just fixing interwiki conflicts. Valid direct links will be restored by other iw bots or by my bot in the next run. --Volkov (?!) 15:50, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Odd changes to WP:WPM and Portal:Science

[edit]

[13] and [14] seem a bit odd: the first to Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics for example seemed to remove links to perfectly good projects on e.g. the French and German wikipedias. --JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 18:54, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This was due to namespace mismatch. By default, bots should not link different namespaces. Certain languages and namespaces allowed to be cross-linked should be stated clearly in pywikibot framework. As for the second link, in some languages pages named "Portal" are still not recognized as namespace 100 (portal) by MediaWiki and are treated as normal pages from the main namespace. Those pages that have namespace mismatch issue are removed. E.g. ts:Portal:Science despite its name is in fact in main namespace. --Volkov (?!) 16:13, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please check the content before keep reverting

[edit]

You and your bot are keep reverting the interlanguage links of Help:Contents, but at least the link of Magyar and Japanese should be what I am trying to fixed to. Please check the target pages before keep reverting to your version. Thanks. --Aotake (talk) 13:31, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Magyar links are not changed, it's always hu:Wikipédia:Segítség. If you feel like ja link is wrong, you'd better tell it before initiating edit war. Other links you're restoring simply lead to interwiki conflicts. It's just destructive as it is. --Volkov (?!) 13:38, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I meant Hrvatski. Sorry for that, but I wish you could have been more imaginative and guess my mistake from the edit than calling my edits destructive. --Aotake (talk) 13:47, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Making wars with a bot is not productive anyway, it's just a waste of time. I did not mean to insult you. If you see a problem in bot's edits, it's always better to inform the bot master than to revert every edit manually. --Volkov (?!) 14:19, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please will you stop vandalising the D. H. Lawrence page. Xxanthippe (talk) 00:27, 28 April 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Please will you stop accusing without any valid reason. The link on ca.wiki is redirect and bots simply correct it to the valid direct link. If you feel like the article title on ca.wiki is incorrect, talk to ca.wiki community. --Volkov (?!) 09:24, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
So it's somebody else's fault. I think that you should ensure that your bot operates correctly at all times. If it does not give reliable results it is up to you to fix it. Xxanthippe (talk) 09:36, 28 April 2010 (UTC).[reply]
The bot works correctly, it does what it should do. If somebody's vandalised the page on ca.wiki, you'd better alert local admins and rename it back to correct title. I know nothing about the person in question, so please do correct the issue on ca.wiki by yourself. Any iw bot will automatically correct interwiki links afterwards. --Volkov (?!) 09:45, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

The page for Jack O'Connell in English Wiki is wrongly linked to another Jack O'Connell in Polish. The two people are different and so your bot interferes with the genuine information in the English page. Can you fix this problem? The Jack O'Connell in the English Wiki is the Superintendent of the California Department of Education. The person in the Polish Wiki seems to be someone almost 40 years younger. Please remove the interlinking and prevent the bot from removing genuine information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.16.10.187 (talk) 05:45, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

VolkovBot readds iw:s to de, fr and fi (de:American Miniature Horse, fi:American Miniature Horse, fr:Cheval miniature américain); these are faulty as the English article deals with a type of horse and the de, fr and fi versions are about a horse breed. Pitke (talk) 11:56, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why ?

[edit]

Why VolkovBot, once the best bot with TXiKiBoT, far from this ugly Xqbot & others, doesn't know how to remove an iw incorrect link and add a correct iw during the same session, e. g. here inter pares ?

Budelberger (   ) 14:35, 9 October 2010 (UTC).[reply]

What's the problem? First, the bot removed a link to non-existent page (deleted on Oct 2), then it discovered a valid link to si.wiki elsewhere and added it to en.wiki. It did what it should do. --Volkov (?!) 15:54, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
si:ප්‍රවර්ගය:ක්‍රිපූ 102 උපත් was created about Aug 22 (by me), iwed on Aug 22 (Xqbot), asked for deletion on Aug 24 (by me), deleted on Oct 02 (by Lee), removed from iw on Oct 07 (VolkovBot) ; si:ප්‍රවර්ගය:ක්‍රි.පූ. 102 උපත් was created on Aug 24 (by me), and iwed on Oct 09 (VolkovBot) ; and son on with many, many, manies... categories... (e. g. here for gan:分类:前etc.) --Budelberger (   ) 17:04, 9 October 2010 (UTC). (ArthurBot knows how to work with minimal edits ; 100 & 102 have the same story.)[reply]
It depends on where the bot is initially (which language wiki). Apparently, ArthurBot was somewhere where it was able to find a link to the new category at si.wiki and it simply changed the link on en.wiki, while my bot worked on some other language in the timespan when the old category has already been deleted from si.wiki and the new category hasn't been linked to other languages yet where the bot could pick up the link. This is normal. --Volkov (?!) 17:30, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
100, 102, etc. --Budelberger (   ) 17:34, 9 October 2010 (UTC). (EOT)[reply]
[edit]

Your bot is deleting good links again. Examples I have reverted today are HMS Warrior and HMS Surprise.--Toddy1 (talk) 18:13, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong interwikis

[edit]

Hello, there is a problem with interwikis on Tingatinga (painting). Some of them are definitely wrong, as they link to a page on a wilaya (district) of Tanzania rather than a painting style; e.g., sw:Tingatinga (Monduli). For what I can understand, links from br, de, fr, it, ja (?) and fi are ok, while ru seems to be about something completely different (have no clue here, the only thing I can read is the picture, and unless it is Edward Tingatinga's skull, it is completely unrelated) and sv and sw are about the wilaya. I removed all the definitely erroneus interwikis from the article, but the bot puts them back in :-) Moongateclimber (talk) 13:51, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

problems with tagging

[edit]

The bot tagged Horseshoe Creek, Wyoming for deletion because it redirected to a deleted category, but there was a perfectly reasonable larger category available. Remembering the CfD, I noticed this, and of course just changed it and removed the tag, but I am concerned that the mechanical operation of a bot in this way is likely to lead to errors. I almost missed it. DGG ( talk ) 17:57, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The bot uses standard redirect.py script from pywikibot framework. If you find an issue, please report it to http://sourceforge.net/projects/pywikipediabot/ so it can be fixed for all the bots at once. But is a cross-namespace redirect really valid? --Volkov (?!) 18:40, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edits to Phúc Sơn

[edit]

Phúc Sơn is repatedly being interwiki'd to other-language articles about Zhifu, and vice versa. This error seems to have been propagated by multiple bots from bad data elsewere. Could you please fix this? -- The Anome (talk) 12:59, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

See vi:Phúc Sơn, vi:Phúc Sơn, Tân Yên, vi:Phúc Sơn, Sơn Đông and Phúc Sơn. --Budelberger (   ) 15:25, 29 December 2010 (UTC).[reply]
Done, and well done, in spite of numerous stupid edits from another editor, here and elsewhere ; there was an error (in Chinese name…) in vi.Wp… All is right, now, here and in vi ; perhaps some iw conflicts elsewhere, but I don't care : those stupid Wps : de, fr and others ! --Budelberger (   ) 14:33, 30 December 2010 (UTC). (Phuc Son is a Vietnamese village, and local transliteration for a Chinese village in Shandong ; but only in Vietnamese.)[reply]

See the history here. The reverts are correct, it's the wrong link. ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 14:57, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong interwiki

[edit]

The bot has changed the ro.wiki link in the Dan Voiculescu article from ro:Dan Voiculescu (om de afaceri) to ro:Dan Voiculescu (which is a disambiguation page). This change seems odd, because the bot should follow the existing redirect, to ro:Dan Voiculescu (politician). Razvan Socol (talk) 06:58, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm... I think it has taken into consideration the existing links in fr:Dan Voiculescu and la:Dan Voiculescu, which were outdated (compared to en.wiki). Razvan Socol (talk) 07:01, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

pt:Ambulância INEM

[edit]

Why do you keep adding pt:Ambulância INEM) to Emergency medical services‎? It is incorrect.--Biker Biker (talk) 10:09, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Is there any reason why this bot keeps trying to remove a valid Chinese inter-wiki link (zh:JR东日本E531系电力动车组) from the article E531 series? --DAJF (talk) 01:02, 1 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea. I see that another bot has also removed zh link from ja. Maybe it's a pywikibot bug in recognizing Chinese characters? If the bot cannot read them correctly it supposes the page doesn't exist and removes the link as a dead link. --Volkov (?!) 06:46, 1 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The trunk release cannot normalize the characters. I fixed it.  @xqt 08:29, 1 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
