You reverted an edit I made that removed a euphemism for "died". I refer you to the manual of style, which says that editors should avoid "passed away", which is not neutral. fdsTalk

What’s Your Take On This

Hi Versace, hope you are doing fine. I know it’s a Friday night & you deserve your rest but something strange caught my attention. You see I nominated a page Sonnia Agu for deletion [[1]] because it is non-notable as per policies then proceeded to check other articles created by the creator of that page & noticed he creates, or rather, has created a lot of non notables WP:BLP pages & somehow this pages evade scrutiny of veteran editors. I think you should investigate this. Celestina007 (talk) 19:35, 8 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi Celestina007. I stumbled upon this user a few weeks ago and I agree with you. I believe they are getting paid for editing Wikipedia. They might be part of a PR firm or might be connected to a serial sock like CPN. Per WP:PAID, paid editors are responsible for disclosing who is paying them. Paid editors should not be creating or editing pages directly, instead only suggesting changes on talk pages. I am going to do more digging because I think there's something fishy going on here. I am also going to nominate a few of their articles for deletion.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 00:53, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

The article Mama Africa (Yemi Alade album) you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Mama Africa (Yemi Alade album) for comments about the article. Well done! The Feather Barnstar
Congratulations on the 4 GA articles that you've added, increasing the number of WikiProject Nigeria GA articles to about 20. Its good to have editors who are concerned about just creating new articles on notable topics, but its even better when they are more concerned about the quality of the articles. You happen to fall in the latter. Keep up the good job sir! HandsomeBoy (talk) 18:51, 18 November 2019 (UTC)

Genres

Hi there. I'm sure I don't need to tell you this, but I will say it anyway. When you create song or album articles, even if the artist is an Afrobeats artist, that specific song or album still needs a source for it being Afrobeats as well. I'm also sure you're aware artists who've made music primarily in one genre can still make material of another genre, and one's own assessment of a genre ("it sounds like Afrobeats", "it's like all their other material" etc.) do not suffice per WP:SUBJECTIVE and WP:V. I'm sure you know far more about Afrobeats than I do, but that's not what this is about, because what I'm saying applies to any genre—for example, we don't label every album by a band we describe overall as "an alternative rock band" alternative rock by virtue of them being that sort of act overall. I'm sure most other experienced music editors will tell you this, so please find sources for these artists' specific releases being Afrobeats or whichever genre (for example, the article you created for A Good Time also had hip hop in the infobox, despite it not being sourced and there being no mention of hip hop in the prose). Just to clarify though, if a news article describes the artist specifically and not the album (e.g. "Afrobeats artist Davido"), most music editors do not consider this an acceptable assessment of that album's genre. Thanks. Ss112 02:05, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

@Ss112: Thanks for this detailed message, but there's really no need for it. I source everything I add to Wikipedia. Afrobeats is sourced in the article's body. The only mistake I made was adding hip-hop. I copied the infobox album template from Davido's debut album and forgot to remove hip hop.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 14:38, 23 November 2019 (UTC)
Uh, it was not particularly detailed for me, and there apparently is a need for it, because the only mention of Afrobeats in the body is a quote from Davido saying the album would be predominantly Afrobeats. As I said in my edit summary, we don't rely on quotes from artists themselves as to what they consider their albums, because that's their subjective assessment. For example, not saying this is an example of that, but artists have used wacky descriptions of their sound in the past—if we relied on their assessment, we'd be using all sorts of crazy terms in the infobox. By the way, this is not my personal preference, so you can argue and say you're not going to find another source, but this is based on precedent of music editors having not accepted an artist's own assessment of their sound or intention previously, so you should find an independent source describing the album. We rely (and should rely) on critical assessment of the album. Davido is not a critic. I'm not going to revert you again, but I am sure you can find another source for Afrobeats from a critical source if it's such an obvious sound. Just a note for future replies, I don't require a ping. Thanks. Ss112 21:12, 23 November 2019 (UTC)
I am going to remove Afrobeats from the infobox. I will wait until it gets source in reviews. Thanks for responding and thanks for your immense contributions to this encyclopedia.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 02:08, 24 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Cornelius Keagon

The article about Cornelius Keagon should not be deleted. Djames11170 (talk) 19:39, 28 December 2019 (UTC)

@Djames11170: The article is going to be deleted because Keagon doesn't meet Wikipedia's notability requirements. The article appears to be highly promotional and doesn't show exactly what makes Keagon a notable figure.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 19:44, 28 December 2019 (UTC)

It's stated in the article that Keagon is a notable artist Djames11170 (talk) 19:46, 28 December 2019 (UTC)

What notable works has he done? You claim he is an "artist", but the article doesn't discuss any of his drawings or paintings. If he is a singer, what songs has he released? This guy is not a prominent figure in the Liberian entertainment industry.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 19:55, 28 December 2019 (UTC)

He does drawings. He's notable for his art works. He's not a musician Djames11170 (talk) 20:00, 28 December 2019 (UTC)

It's an expanding article. It'll be improve, Djames11170 (talk) 20:05, 28 December 2019 (UTC)

What notable drawings has he done? Have there been commentary and reviews about his drawings? I don't know of many prominent Liberian artists, but Keagon is way too young to be a prominent figure in that community.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 20:06, 28 December 2019 (UTC)

Yes Sir, he has been awarded in and out of Liberia. It's an expanding article sir Djames11170 (talk) 20:08, 28 December 2019 (UTC)

Tolani Fatilewa

Hello Versace1608,

Trust you are well.

I have been made aware that you have nominated the "Tolani Fatilewa" page for deletion and I have seen your reasons, which I would like to clear up.

Tolani Fatilewa is indeed an Afrobeat artist from Nigeria, currently in the UK and got his first recognition in 2017, when his song No Yawa was the only African song at the first edition of battle of the bands. Battle of the bands is a competition that was created by Abbey Road Studios. As a music lover, this studio is iconic and this led Tolani to be featured on the metro uk.

Tolani was raised in Abuja and has gotten all his songs on constant rotation on notable stations like wazobia, soundcity and coolfm. He has been on countdowns on coolfm Abuja, which have led to various interviews on the station.

On the 15th of December 2019, Tolani appeared on BBC introducing, a show aired on bbc3 counties radio in the UK where he discussed his career and afrobeat with OAP Eddy Adoo [2].

Tolani Fatilewa has had his music video for no Yawa, aired on trace tv, MTV base and Hiptv. He has performed at events like felabration (twice) and had tv interviews on terrestrial stations like TVC (wake up Nigeria show).

All of these are verifiable, unfortunately, in the Nigerian music industry, it would be difficult to show his chart success on radio (apart from social media links which won't be deemed credible). He is not an A-list artist and there are very few independent artists that can claim to be such, but he has certainly achieved notability in Nigeria and out of Nigeria.

As an independent artist, he works in cycles and he is scheduled to release his first EP in February of 2020 and this will generate more publicity for this cycle. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fatees (talkcontribs) 18:53, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

@Fatees: Thanks for leaving this detailed message on my talk page. I nominated the Tolani Fatilewa article for deletion because the subject doesn't pass WP:GNG and WP:MUSICBIO. None of his songs have charted on any country's official music chart. Abbey Road Studios might be a notable studio, but that doesn't make their "Battle of the Bands" competition notable. FYI, notability cannot be inherited. His songs getting constant rotation on radio stations in Nigeria doesn't make him notable either. Most of those radio stations you mentioned have charts but they are considered single-network charts and are not notable. The interviews he conducted on those radio stations are primary sources and cannot count towards notability. His appearance on a BBC radtio station also doesn't establish notability since it isn't independent of him. His music video being aired on Trace TV, MTV Base, etc is not a valid reason for stand-alone inclusion. All of the reasons you've given to keep this article aren't valid. The simple truth is that Fatilewa doesn't meet the requirements of WP:GNG and WP:MUSICBIO at this time. He may pass these guidelines in the near future if his music releases are discussed in significant coverage independent of him (no interviews). I hope I was able to address your concerns.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 03:16, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
  • CommentFatees, first off I’d like for you to clarify for us certain things I can’t seem to comprehend. Now, how & in what capacity are you related to the subject of your article? Is he a friend or colleague? Did you both attend the same college/university seeing as you know very intricate details & information about him which are not listed in the sources you provided i’d have to ask you this directly for the sake of transparency & honesty, are you one & the same person as the subject of your article? That is to say, are you Tolani Fatilewa writing an article about yourself? if your answer is no then fully describe your relationship with subject of your article.Celestina007 (talk) 10:31, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

Eagle Vision

Haha its a good thing you caught that Tolani Fatilewa article and appropriately nominated it for deletion. I wouldn’t want to run afoul of outing but I can tell you for a fact that half the sources used in the article are websites owned by Babcock alumni & hell even one of them were roommates with the subject of the article. Furthermore having looked closely at the name of the article creator I observed that it may be a monicker or spin off from the article subject itself as in “Tolani Fatilewa” from the last name I’d say that “Fatees” & “Fatilewa” having an eerie uncanny resemblance. Hence could be an autobiographical article.Talk about hardcore COI. Celestina007 (talk) 10:16, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

Celestina007 Thanks for pointing this out. The similarities between Fatees and Fatilewa didn't register to me since I'm unfamiliar with these names. The user definitely has a COI with the subject of the article. As you point out, he states several things that only someone with a COI would know. I will leave a COI note on his talk page. Hopefully he responds to the thread here or on his talk page.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 01:29, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

@Kimi fantox: Your edit screwed up the infobox; I undid your edit so no worries. Please do add brackets around DMW because doing so will only result to linking a disambiguation page. Refrences

Hello, I add additional refrences to the article I create Ali jita, I do hope you will consider article notable for wikipedia creation. Thank you Anasskoko (talk) 18:52, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

@Anasskoko: I appreciate the improvements you made to the article, but the subject still isn't notable. A Google search of Ali Jita doesn't show him being discussed in reliable sources. Are there offline newspaper sources discussing him?  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 20:18, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
Well, No he is notable, because Ali jita was known all over northern nigeria as Hausa artist, and you made mention of reliable sources, I provide over 15 references, all are discusing about him, so tell me which website among them is not reliable? Is it Bbc hausa or Dailytrust, all of the sites I provide are discussing about him, just because they are discussing on hausa language does not mean that the sources is not reliable, it is allowed to make refrences even in native language, furthermore, some people are notable within their own region, in the first place you said the award section I provide is all false, and now I provide a refrence to them, still you insist, some biography articles in english wiki have only three refrence, and hence are not regarded as non notable, Ali jita is on youtobe, you can watch alot of his musical videos there, he is on instagram, he was verefied as known artist. You made mention of google serch, serching on google is base on location. So here in my own there is over 3o websites discussing about him, some are blacklist website and some can be use to make refrence to wikipedia, I do hope you will consider the article one more time.

Anasskoko (talk) 22:01, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

Anasskoko, why in the name of sweet Jesus Christ are you badgering Versace for? A seasoned senior editor whom you should learn from & not argue unnecessarily with. He isn’t here to satisfy you & neither am I or anyone else for that matter. Your article is borderline useless & a blatant promotional rubbish. You mentioning & trying to substantiate his notability by mentioning YouTube & him being verified on Instagram shows you need to actually familiarize yourself with core policies & guidelines before rushing to create an article which in my opinion you may have a WP:COI with. Less I forget also learn common things like signing properly for starters.Celestina007 (talk) 22:22, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
@Anasskoko: Jita might be a known figure in his community, but the sources cited in the article do not show him being discussed in reliable sources. As a matter of fact, some of the sources in the article need to be removed because they do not discuss Jita. Having a YouTube and Instagram presence are not grounds for notability. Jita cannot be notable as a singer because none of his songs or albums have been discussed in reliable sources. Celestina007, please take it easy lol. Let's try to hold a dialogue with him; maybe he will be able to understand and accept our reasoning.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 22:34, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
it is indeed an honour to meet good man like you Versace, I tend to understand your point as you understand mine, so take a good action towards the article, wheather to help me improve the article and make corrections, so that the article will start as a stub, but if it is not possible then delete the article, there should be no problem, we are all here to volunteer, Thank you. Dont ever mention jesus in your statement before insulting others, people like you doesnt belive in jesus, jesus teachings appears purely in versace, as he calm others to beleive in his truth, here is not your talkpage, why did you interupt with insults? I hope you will check the bible to see the good characters and teachings of the Messiah. Useless and a blatant? Fine! In sweet jesus I say peace be upon you.

Anasskoko (talk) 23:22, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

@Anasskoko: Has Ali Jita acted in any Kannywood films or is he is just a musician? He isn't a notable musician but he may be notable as an actor if he has had major roles in notable films.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 16:02, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
@Versace1608: Well around 2006 to 2015 he have been in many kannywood films but honestly speaking the films are not notable, afterward he focuses mainly in producing hausa music and caimpaig songs to politician. http://hausafilms.tv/musician/ali_jita

https://ng.linkedin.com/company/kannywood-tv

Thanks Anasskoko (talk) 05:25, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

@Anasskoko: If a couple of those films were notable and if his roles in them were major, he would be meet Wikipedia's notability requirements. It's possible he could be notable in the near future; he just needs to continue releasing quality music.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 15:38, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
@Versace1608: Yes he will, because he is even together with kannywood film industry and also together with various kannywood actors like Ali Nuhu, Sani Musa Danja and the rest. Thank you for your time I get to understand many things from you. So make appropiate decision whether to delete it or not, what so ever you decide is okay. Nothing wrong with it.

Greetings & a great weekend to you all. I believe it would be great if the (Requests for uncreated articles) section in our wiki project can be attended to & at least one article be created this weekend as some requests have been pending since 2016. I already reviewed the article and left remarks here. I also told Brain7days not to waste time on this article. He has other articles he wants to work on so I instructed him to start working on those.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 01:29, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
You review is apt. You are doing a wonderful job. You're such a blessing to Wikipedia. I will adopt your style during the next AfroCine contest in October. HandsomeBoy (talk) 01:39, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

Fall Gold

Kindly update the Gold for Fall now There is proof

Thanks Overtye (talk) 16:47, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

@Overtye: The article has been updated per updates on the RIAA website. There's no proof that it is the first solo Afrobeat single to be certified gold by the RIAA. This particular info is considered original research and cannot be added until it is supported by a reliable source.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 18:30, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the update. Fall is the first afrobeat song to be certified by RIAA. No other afrobeat song is on the RIAA website. I would also like to learn from you. Thanks Overtye (talk) 18:36, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

@Overtye: You cannot add this info without a reliable source. Everything you add to Wikipedia needs to be backed by a citation to a reliable source.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 18:42, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

HandsomeBoy, 😂😂 Wahlai, I thought he was gone for good or was going for one of his random 9 months hiatus, but like you said true Wikipedians are never gone for good. Although, its sad Stormy Chamber (Mahveotm) says he is retired, I believe he would eventually come back. Because Abeg Wiki Pproject Nigeria can’t continue to lose the very very few honest editors we have left. Celestina007 (talk) 19:13, 15 July 2020 (UTC)

As you already know, AfroCine will be starting in October/November and I look forward to seeing at least one article from you. Your one article will really help in ensuring we meet the metrics for the contest. If you are unsure what article to create, can I suggest Tunde Babalola, a renowned writer? Feel free to ignore my suggestion for any subject you feel more comfortable with. Your vast experience in wiki content creation will be greatly missed if AfroCine ends without your input. I look forward to seeing something from you! Thank you very much sir! HandsomeBoy (talk) 12:24, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

I Can’t Win The Fight Against UPE Alone

If you don’t come back from your hiatus & commence editing, I’d have to fly to Maryland faster than the speed of light & force you to start editing once again. Tbh, several Nigerian UPE articles are created every other day and truth be told I can’t fight this UPE battle alone. I’m doing the best I can, but it appears it’s just me alone holding it down and there’s only so much I can do. Celestina007 (talk) 01:50, 4 April 2021 (UTC)

Welcoming New Volunteers

Note that the dates observed in bold under the underlined title of message help reflect and clarify the most current & oldest messages with the most current being at the top and the oldest being at the bottom.

  • Welcoming New Volunteers (25/06/2021)
  • We hereby want to officially welcome new volunteers who have recently joined the collaborative project and have volunteered to work in WP:NIGERIA. The arrival of new volunteers is often associated with the confusion of “what to do” on their part, it is then behoove of us to treat them with care, guide them, and protect them from the general pitfalls a new editor would most usually fall into. We are also admonished to clean up after them if they err and encourage them, most especially when they are genuine editors with potential to do good work not just for us, but for the community as a whole. Once more, we hereby thank all new editors who have volunteered to work here and hope they enjoy their stay here.
  • Requests for uncreated articles (24/1/2020)
  • Greetings & a great weekend to you all. It would be great if the (Requests for uncreated articles) section in our wiki project can be attended to & at least one article be created this weekend as some requests have been pending since 2016. I believe this would be pivotal to the encyclopedia as a whole & a means to get editors who have gone inactive to revive their Wikipedia activities.

Your GOCE copy-edit request for Yellow (Brymo album)

Hi Versace1608, I'm Baffle gab1978, a coordinator at the Guild of Copy Editors. I've removed your copy-edit request for Yellow (Brymo album) at the Guild of Copy Editors Requests page here. I've done this because the page currently has a limit of two requests per editor at any one time. We enforce this limit to ensure every request has a fair chance of being fulfilled in a reasonable time. If you'd like this article to be copy-edited before one of your extant requests, you're welcome to swap them over. You can re-add your latest request as soon as one of your others has been copy-edited. Thanks for your patience and understanding. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 20:53, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

@Baffle gab1978: Thanks for the message. I had no idea we were limited to only two requests at a time. I will probably submit another request once the two pending requests are complete. Thanks for all that you do at GOCE.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 23:30, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

Explanation

Hello, man Versace am just new here and am still learning, I was reading, and I just found a broken link and I decided to replace it as part of my contribution! not a promotion.

you can also check the link its Broken. "Afroboy singer" (talk) 16:52, 9 April 2023 (UTC)

@Afroboy singer: I appreciate your edit to the Flavour (musician) article; however, the particular source you added is unreliable. I apologized for presuming you were promoting the site. We usually have people who join Wikipedia for the sole purpose of promoting their website. What you are calling a broken link is actually what we called a WP:dead link. Please read WP:DEADREF; the norm on Wikipedia is to search for web archives of the link; removing dead links are not generally encouraged, unless there aren't web archives of them available on the internet. I am going to search for that particular link; I'm confident I can find a web archive of it.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 17:11, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
Ok now i have gone through "read WP:DEADREF" I have learned! i am not here to promote any website.
I just corrected the singles and updated the date and name thought was wrong on that, but u just explained better for me thank you!
now are you saying i should leave the edit or I should delete it? "Afroboy singer" (talk) 17:28, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
ok i have heard you i just saw it was broken and I decide
that means i have to remove it now ...or are saying in case of next time
this was my first contribution. i felt like am not good "Afroboy singer" (talk) 17:21, 9 April 2023 (UTC)

Love to contribute.

hello, man I wanted to keep the page active many sources are broken

i just decide to pick a good source to replace the dead ones, thanks for all your good work

here is the dead link; http://notjustok.com/2011/02/04/video-premiere-flavour-nabania-my-woman-is-gone/

i think i didn't add the access date let me correct it then. i have done so now. am still learning.

Thanks a lot. good man. "Afroboy singer" (talk) 17:12, 9 April 2023 (UTC)

@Afroboy singer: I am going to archive all of the sources in the article when I get home tonight. You don't have to worry about replacing the sources that are dead. I am confident that all of the sources in the article have been archived on wayback machine. It is just a matter of retrieving them.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 18:30, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
ok that's great man hopes my contribution will count I will study more about the policies. keep the good work man! "Afroboy singer" (talk) 22:10, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
@Afroboy singer: Your contributions can definitely count man. The Flavour article needs expanding and you can definitely help with that. I'm not sure if you are a big fan of his music but if you are, you can definitely work on it in your sandbox. I can find reliable sources that can be cited in the article and guide you through the expansion process.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 22:47, 9 April 2023 (UTC)

Davido

Hi Versace1608, I removed some off-topic text from the subsection in "Life and career"; I moved the text to the relevant articles (Aye (song), Blow My Mind). Material relevant to A Good Time is already present in that article; please see my edit summaries for my full rationales. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 04:20, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
@Baffle gab1978: Thank you so much for your edits to the article. I really appreciate all that you did and continue to do to better this encyclopedia.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 23:20, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

DenG sent me to ya

he want me to edit this wiki account ya build for him back in 2019 Musicname (talk) 00:27, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

@Musicname: You cannot edit the DenG article directly since you have an external relationship to the subject. Wikipedia's COI policy doesn't encourage people with a COI to make direct edits to affected pages. If you want to see changes made to the DenG article, you will need to make a request at Talk:DenG.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 11:00, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
