Wisden
The book is usually referred to as simply Wisden Cricketers Almanack, not the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack. See for example this, this, this and this.... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 06:54, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
@Kailash29792 With Thalaivar's birthday round the corner, I need two clarifications.
- The lead section of Sivaji says its 3D version was released on his 63rd b'day. But his article says he's still 62?
- [1] [2] [3] Sivaji was the first Indian film to be released in 4k resolution. But a GA that Sivaji is, there is not even a mention of this rare distinction? -- Sriram speak up 02:12, 7 December 2013 (UTC)
- Rajinikanth's year of birth is disputed to be around 1949 and 1950. If any valuable info is missing in Sivaji, feel free to add. But the article, despite its GA status, has many unsourced statements which need filling/removal. ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 02:35, 7 December 2013 (UTC)
- Oh! Seeing that it was a GA, I thought I would better approach the major contributor than mess it up. But the guy Universal Hero seems to have long retired. Okay. I'll do the needful. -- Sriram speak up 02:45, 7 December 2013 (UTC)
- His actual year of birth is 1950 and not 1949. This has been reported by many sources including his own brother. —Vensatry (Ping me) 07:11, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

- Okay. So it should have been his 62nd b'day last year, right? Will fix it. -- Sriram speak up 14:40, 7 December 2013 (UTC)
- The problem is that some sources count the birth year too, which leads to this sort of a confusion. —Vensatry (Ping me) 14:43, 7 December 2013 (UTC)
- The template in wiki will tell the real age. So, we 'll go by that. I heard this last year. His b'day last year 12-12-12 adds to 36. He has been in film industry for 36 years and his age is 63! -- Sriram speak up 14:56, 7 December 2013 (UTC)
- He's been in the industry for 38 years, good try anyways :) —Vensatry (Ping me) 17:16, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

Mani Ratnam awards
Not too long ago I think u remember asking me for some useful information on the awards won by Mani Ratnam and his films, which I found in Conversations. I have uploaded all the information I found on them in the book at my photobucket account. Do pls have a look. -- Kailash29792 (talk) 13:14, 15 December 2013 (UTC)

Balu Mahendra Blog
Hi, thank u very much for the blog. However, even though I know the Tamil alphabets and can read the same language, it is hard to read long sentences written in pure Tamil, despite it being my mother tongue. If only there was an official English translation of it... ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 14:33, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- I can fairly translate that to English. —Vensatry (Ping me) 14:36, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, hows the translation process going on? BTW, in Mullum Malarum, we all know the four important lead characters: Kali (Rajini), Valli (Shoba), Manga (Jayalaxmi) and Kumaran (Sarath Babu). There is also Murugesa (Venniradai Murthy). If u have seen the film, do u remember any of the other characters? Bcos I can remember neither the characters names, nor their actors names. And those details are important to expand the cast section. ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 11:45, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
- Yet to start working on it. Remember, it took nearly 34 years for someone like Balu to write about this film :P. Now coming to the cast, Rajni, Sarath Babu, Shoba and Phataphat Jayalaxmi are the prominent people. Though Venniradai Moorthy had a notable role, it wasn't significant as the other four. Rest all were a kind of "new faces", as in the case of most art-house films. —Vensatry (Ping me) 11:57, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
- Kailash29792 Latha Sethupathi in this article says that she was originally considered for the role of "Manga", which she had to reject due to call sheet problems. —Vensatry (Ping me) 12:03, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
- Any success yet? Bcos there is no-one in my family willing to translate the Tamil blog. -- Kailash29792 (talk) 05:46, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
- I've hired a professional translator to translate Balu's blog; Meanwhile u can add content from the other Tamil sources I discovered and have placed in the Mullum Malarum talkpage (there are new ones from the Tamil edition of The Hindu) -- Kailash29792 (talk) 08:55, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

DYK for Paradesi (1953 film)
On 20 December 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Paradesi (1953 film), which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Paradesi was the 1953 film that launched the career of Sivaji Ganesan, though it was not his first release? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Paradesi (1953 film). You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

DYK for Thirumbi Paar
On 28 December 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Thirumbi Paar, which you created or substantially expanded. Your GA nomination of Vedaranyam March
Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Vedaranyam March you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Vedaranyam March...
per your request I will copy edit this page, but may need help from time to time. May I call on you? Shir-El too 19:52, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
- In addition to a copy edit there several words or phrases that are obscure for someone not familiar with the subject. As I work through the page I will bring these to you for clarification. Cheers! Shir-El too 19:59, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
In this sentence "Rajaji broke the salt laws and highlighted the importance of Khādī, social disabilities and the significance of Civil Disobedience Movement to the people as a part of the march," the meaning or usage of the bold/italic words is obscure. Please clarify Shir-El too 20:33, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
- First of all thanks for your interest. Agree with you on that "social disabilities" is very vague, and people here refers to the Indians. —Vensatry (Ping me) 16:40, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
- You're welcome. What were you trying to say with "social disabilities"? It may be an important point. Later: just edited the Background section. Please review the Introduction and Background to make sure I didn't make a mistake: I re-worded some of your statements. Cheers! Shir-El too 19:50, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
- It was vaguely mentioned in the newspaper. I'll provide the feedback once you're fully done with the copy-edit. Cheers —Vensatry (Ping me) 09:27, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
- Very good! I left a message on Seabuckthorn's talk page asking him to delay the GA review until Jan. 1 when the copy edit will, hopefully, be done; the time is needed to research unfamiliar terms like "Collector" and "ISC". All the Best, Shir-El too 10:01, 29 December 2013 (UTC) Update: "social disabilities" = "caste discrimination!" See http://www.commonlii.org/lk/legis/consol_act/posd33370.pdf.
- I think it's a case of WP:SYNTH, better not to have it or include that in quotes. I'll make some edits to clarify all your doubts. Cheers! —Vensatry (Ping me) 10:54, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

DYK Help
Hey colleague! Can you help me in guiding me for creating a DYK? I haven't done that before; so don't know how to go about it. -- Sriram speak up 17:51, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
- Go through WP:WIADYK. If you have any doubts with regards to nominating the article I can help you. —Vensatry (Ping me) 18:03, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
- I already did. I came to know about the eligibility. But, don't know how to nominate. I also don't know which fact to use, to create the DYK since the article in question makes it a bit confusing. This is the new article I just created a hour or so ago. Can you pls take a look and suggest me? -- Sriram speak up 18:12, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
- Amazing work! I can nominate it for you. As for the hook, nothing strikes me at the moment. You could add something like Adharvaa winning a special jury award. —Vensatry (Ping me) 18:20, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
- That was my confusion. If the DYK says, someone winning for a film, should it link to the film or this article!! -- Sriram speak up 18:22, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
- This article should definitely be linked and bolded. You might also want to the film/actor. The hook would look like: ... that Tamil film actor Adharvaa won a special jury award at the 11th Chennai International Film Festival? —Vensatry (Ping me) 18:28, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
- Okay. Btw, can we make multiple DYKs for the same article? -- Sriram speak up 18:34, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not sure about what you mean by "multiple DYKs". More than one article can be nominated under a single hook. However, an article is supposed to be featured in the main page only once. —Vensatry (Ping me) 18:41, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
- Hmmm.. okay. The hook you suggested is good. Can you nominate it? Btw, I also wanna know if I'll be credited for it. Coz, I'm hoping for a WP:FOUR sometime in the near future. -- Sriram speak up 18:46, 21 December 2013 (UTC)

Review
Ven, I came here to say that I'll be keeping my next DYK reviews short and concise. Thanks for helping Sriram Vikram with editing, he is a new editor and should have a mentor, I am there for him and I think you should be there for him too. I think I began on a wrong foot with you, I am sorry for that as I wanted the article to be perfect which is not the goal for a DYK, its new content, that its USP unlike a GA or FA who's main objective is to be perfect. I learnt from this review and I'll keep on learning. Thanks again and happy editing. Soham 11:12, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for dropping in! During my initial days, even I started off on the wrong foot with most of my closest buddies here. You need not feel sorry for that as things like that happen in WP. It's to good to see new editors from India contributing to WP. Sriram is a quick learner, you could WP:ADOPT him if he wishes. Cheers —Vensatry (Ping me) 12:30, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
- I would be happy to but that would mean he is learning when in reality he is pretty matured enough and holds good knowledge about policies. I will definitely help him cope with WP and help him if he needs it. On a different note, India needs real content creators and I've seen some new crop of inspiring editors. Soham 15:41, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
- Soham Hey guys! I was getting a little concerned about the heated arguments between you people, for a cause where I would be credited ultimately. I was contemplating settling your differences. Glad to know that you guys sorted it out among yourselves. Its winter in India. Lets all stay cool and make wiki a better community. -- Sriram speak up 15:06, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- Sriram Vikram, don't blame yourself for our little disagreement it tends to happen when two editors have two different sets of ideologies. Its not a big thing, it happens. Soham 17:26, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- Hey Ven, Sriram has asked for a hook change after I have cleared it for promotion, can the hook be changed now? I checked each and every rule, there seems to be none regarding such situation. Also the hook still has'n't been promoted. Soham 13:48, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
- It can be changed for sure. But make sure that the hook satisfies its own criteria. —Vensatry (Ping me) 16:01, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

As per the discussion with my mentor, the review I posted here is flawed. I was awaiting the response of my mentor and I posted the rough draft from my sandbox in haste without consulting my mentor. I sincerely apologize for the mistake. I'm removing that review and will post my final draft after the user finishes copy-editing the article. I've informed the other user also. Please help me by informing others working on that article. And also ignore that review while copy-editing. Apologies --Seabuckthorn ♥ 16:17, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
- Seabuckthorn, you may start your review as the copy-edit has been completed. —Vensatry (Ping me) 07:41, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
Hello Vensatry, Actually the editing done by me to the article tiruchirapalli was nothing but the truth. The editing mentioned by me is known only to the locals of trichy. As I am a local of Trichy, I have seen the path to thanjavur and this information is not mentioned in any website. Please I hereby tell you that please dont undo, whatever I have done is right. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marshini Ganesh (talk • contribs) 06:50, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, every claim in articles should be backed up by reliable third-party sources. You being a newbie, I suggest you to go through WP:V and WP:CITE. The article is currently at WP:FAC, so making unnecessary changes like this will bring down the chances of the article getting promoted. Above all, the fact that you added would be more relevant in Teppakulam, Tiruchirapppalli and Tiruchirapalli Rock Fort rather than Trichy's article. Thanks for discussing! —Vensatry (Ping me) 07:03, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
Happy New Year! Good job so far on her. I'll try to comment on it by the weekend. What we need really is more Indian cities brought up to GA status, I'd be interested in working with you on that.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:38, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks! I'm a bit frustrated at the moment working with Trichy. Anyways, I'd like to collaborate with you on Chennai, as it's going to be much tougher! —Vensatry (Ping me) 10:43, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
Yeah let's get Trichy through first. I tend to prefer getting articles to GA as FA is a big effort and there's so many important articles needing development and some decent level of quality. Obviously our goal eventually is to get as many to FA as possible!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:17, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
Yeah GA would be the foremost goal. My top priority would be Chennai (former FA), as currently it's the only Indian metro which is a not even close to GA. —Vensatry (Ping me) 11:40, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
Trichy is just the sort of article you'd expect to be riddled with POV and long lists of schools etc on here and it really is a joy to see it at that level of quality! I hope in the next few years more Vensatrys will come on board and help improve the overall quality!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:34, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the compliment! In India there aren't too many editors who are willing to contribute to cities/town-related stuff, unlike a bunch of editors who are available for film-related articles. Ssriram mt is one editor you need to watch out for. Let your dream come true this year! —Vensatry (Ping me) 18:10, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, seems like 95% of Indian editors I come across on here only work on Indian films and actors!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:56, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

- @Favonian:, thanks for deleting the versions. Do you think it's necessary to go for Oversight. —Vensatry (Ping me) 14:04, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Vedaranyam March
The article Vedaranyam March you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Vedaranyam March for things which need to be addressed. FA review of Tiruchirappalli
Rather than clutter up the review page with a few small things that can be easily fixed I'll list them here.
Lead
"... the city is served by an international airport which operated flights to Southeast Asia and the Middle East."
If the airport isn't still offering flights to Southeast Asia and the Middle East then I don't see the point of mentioning that it used to.- Done It was a typo; changed to present tense. —Vensatry (Ping me) 05:32, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
Etymology
"... who meditated on the Hindu god Shiva near the present-day city and obtained favours."
I have no idea what the phrase "obtained favours" means.- Done Changed to boons —Vensatry (Ping me) 05:32, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- That's no clearer to me. What boons? From whom? Eric Corbett 13:16, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- Done Changed to boons —Vensatry (Ping me) 05:32, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- Eric Corbett, in Hindu mythology, it was a common practice for the Asuras to perform Tapas in order to obtain favours from the god. —Vensatry (Ping me) 15:53, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- Ven, I suggest you include this bit as note. Soham 16:03, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- Soham, I think a "wiki-link" would suffice. —Vensatry (Ping me) 06:19, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
Urban structure
"The city is situated at the head of the Kaveri Delta, which commences 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) west where the Kaveri divides into two streams".
I'm not sure I see the relevance of this to urban structure, wouldn't it be better in the geography section? Also, I think it's stretching it a bit to claim that the city is at the head of a delta that actually begins almost 10 miles to the west.
Eric Corbett 13:55, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
- Though the delta begins at a point 16 km west of the city, it stretches further by 140 km to the east. It may be accommodated in Geography, but I feel it's equally relevant in urban structure as it makes the reader understand that how the river and it's tributary form the island of Srirangam, which is an integral part of the city. —Vensatry (Ping me) 05:32, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I don't folllow that at all. If the delta extends 140 km to the east then in what sense does it commence 16 km to the west? The Geography section already says that the island of Srirangam is situated between the rivers Kaveri and Kollidam; what has that to do with a delta, which is a landform at the mouth of a single river? Eric Corbett 13:16, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- Agreed and done as suggested —Vensatry (Ping me) 15:53, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

For your superb research and effort to promote Trichy! You should feel very proud of getting such an important Indian city up to FA status and achieving your first FA!! Pleasure working with you, hope to see you achieve many more in the future. Congratulations (and thanks too for the barnstar)!! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:40, 6 January 2014 (UTC) |
Would be good if we could get those red links in the article all blue linked. What next? Chennai to GA? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:59, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks again :) Yeah now planning to work on Chennai. Would be great to see you pitching in. I'm sure you would make all the red links turn blue (and make them appear on the main page too!) —Vensatry (Ping me) 13:38, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
A lot of (older) book sources of course will call it Madras, something for me to keep in mind! Getting Chennai to FA would a giant thing for southern India on wikipedia of course! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:53, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's the most important thing to remember! For Chennai there would be a lot of sources to dig in from the books. —Vensatry (Ping me) 15:35, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
