Civility warning
Edit summaries like "So What? Tell me. WP is not Wikinews, and if this is on the headlines, it will fuck off pretty shortly, I'm telling you" are not acceptable. Please remain civil. You have also referred to the removal of photos you added as "stupid", "vandalism", and "what is your problem". Removing photos like that is rarely vandalism, please re-read WP:VANDALISM, which describes how good faith disputes should not be described as vandalism. Also see WP:OWN - trying to include pictures you took in articles is classic ownership behaviour. Fences&Windows 16:45, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

- Both your proposed deletion that you recently added has been either reverted or changed. Just wanted to let you know. As the Prods seems to have been made on grounds that wasnt correct. Cheers.--BabbaQ (talk) 19:04, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
- I know they were deprodded, but that doesn't mean they were made on grounds that weren't correct. I can perfectly nominate them for deletion, and I'm sure they will be deleted. The Sanders one, is very unknown, and the Love one is almost the same case, no lasting significance. Probably the Yeates one is more important than these ones. --Diego Grez (EMSIUB) (talk) 19:07, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Old talk page
Hello! This talk page has been recreated by a bot. I'm informing you, just in case. You might want to either redirect the page here or want it deleted and full-protected. HeyMid (contribs) 18:01, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hehe. I have tried to get it deleted many times, but I'm always too tired to {{db-author}} it :-P Go ahead and do that for me! I want it deleted and full-protected against future re-creations, and no, I don't want it redirecting here. Diego Grez (EMSIUB) (talk) 18:33, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for replying. :) By the way, do you still get those signposts at this talk page? I brought the issue here, and they say your old username in the Spamlist should be removed. I couldn't find your username there (it was removed a while back while you were blocked). HeyMid (contribs) 18:50, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
- Update: I fixed the issue in this edit. Just feel free to remove your username there if you don't wish to get the WikiCup newsletter anymore. HeyMid (contribs) 19:31, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Talk page issue
Hello again! So you've now been renamed back to Diego Grez. However, your talk page still remains here. Is that what you actually wanted? Or should it be moved to where it actually belongs? HeyMid (contribs) 18:11, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- Seems like I have been only disrupting the encyclopedia lately with my renames :P I requested deletion of my current talk page in order to move this one there. That's all I really want. Diego Grez (EMSIUB) (talk) 19:13, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- I delete/moved your talk page back. You have still a lot of subpages on that old name which also exist here. Could you check those that exist here and tag them for deletion accordingly, i.e. those you need removed to move back the subpages? Regards SoWhy 19:35, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- Okay. Will work on that in a few minutes. Thanks! Diego Grez (talk) 19:37, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

New Years Message for WikiProject United States
With the first of what I hope will be monthly newsletters I again want to welcome you to the project and hope that as we all work together through the year we can expand the project, create missing articles and generally improve the pedia thought mutual cooperation and support. Now that we have a project and a solid pool of willing members I wanted to strike while the iron is hot and solicite help in doing a few things that I believe is a good next step in solidifiing the project. I have outlined a few suggestions where you can help with on the projects talk page. This includes but is not limited too updating Portal:United States, assessing the remaining US related articles that haven't been assessed, eliminating the Unrefernced BLP's and others. If you have other suggestions or are interested in doing other things feel free. I just wanted to offer a few suggestions were additional help is needed. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments or suggestions or you can always post something on the projects talk page. If you do not want to recieve a monthly message please put an * before your name on the members page.--Kumioko (talk) 02:53, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Woman is the Nigger of the World
Hello Diego Grez. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Woman is the Nigger of the World, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: See WP:MUSTARD; "is" is a verb and should be capitalized. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 07:04, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Online Ambassadors
I saw the quality of your contributions at DYK and clicked on over to your user page and was pretty impressed. Would you be interested in helping with the WP:Online_Ambassadors program? It's really a great opportunity to help university students become Wikipedia contributers. I hope you apply to become an ambassador, Sadads (talk) 21:11, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi! I was an ambassador-in-training some time ago... but to be honest, I was troubled with a thing in real life, and had to leave it. I'd love to do more for Wikipedia!... but I don't have enough time (enough time to devote to such a program! — I work most of the day in a kiosk here in Pichilemu, I have only time to do minor things while I can!... and in March I'm back to school —). So, I can't right now. :( Diego Grez (talk) 21:20, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 January newsletter
We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. Signups are now closed, and we have 129 listed competitors, 64 of whom will make it to round two. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions), who, at the time of writing, has a comfortable lead with 228 points, followed by Hurricanehink (submissions), with 144 points. Four others have over 100 points. Congratulations also go to Yellow Evan (submissions), who scored the first points in the competition, claiming for Talk:Hurricane King/GA1, Miyagawa (submissions), who scored the first non-review points in the competition, claiming for Dognapping, and Jarry1250 (submissions) who was the first in the competition to use our new "multiplier" mechanic (explanation), claiming for Grigory Potemkin, a subject covered on numerous Wikipedias. Thanks must also go to Jarry1250 for dealing with all bot work- without you, the competition wouldn't be happening!
A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round two is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. DYK for Mario Moraga
On 1 February 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Mario Moraga, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Mario Moraga, former regidor of Pichilemu, Chile, is popularly known as "El Sin Pelos en la Lengua", meaning "The One Without Mince Words"? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Hey Diego, thanks for publishing the article. Perhaps I will return to Wikinews in the future, but it may not be for some time. I appreciate the message! wackywace 20:38, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: March 2010 Calama earthquake
Hello Diego Grez. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of March 2010 Calama earthquake, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: how can an XfD have closed after 17 hours rather than 7 days? Please provide the link to the discussion on my talk page. Thank you. GedUK 22:17, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Interested?
I thought you might be interested in Orelie-Antoine de Tounens article as he is probably the last king of Chile (techicollay it was Araucania and Patagonia and he was not recognized but still). Spongie555 (talk) 04:41, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- Haha! I read that article like four or five months ago, while I was investigating that period of the history of Chile. It seems weird that a man, coming from France to an almost unknown land, self-proclaimed the king of that unknown land! Anyway, he was supported by the Mapuches, but his kingdomship(?) didn't last for much because of the occupation of the Araucanía.. Oh how interesting is the history of my country! Getting to the point, I'll add that article to my to-do list, it will be fun to take it to the GA spot, and there is a lot of bibliography on him. Cheers! Diego Grez (talk) 04:46, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yes this article caught me by surprise when I first read it. To see that article as a GA would be interesting. I'm probably going to make an article forthe current king(pretender?) of the kingdom. Also I saw you added the infobox back to the the kingdoms article and their might be a user who might remove it or fight against it as he did to me when I added it. Spongie555 (talk) 06:10, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- I have explained my reasons in the talk page. It was an unrecognized state, I have even referenced it so they don't fight about it all over again. And, Felipe apparently has renounced to the claims to the kingdom. Orélie-Antoine's life is so interesting, and funny that it will be very, very pleasant to write about him. Diego Grez (talk) 06:13, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- According to this website, [2], they still count him as king since he has no children and has not named an heir. Also it it has very good information the king orelie. Spongie555 (talk) 06:17, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- This makes it clear to me: "Philippe, who uses the style Prince Philippe, has no children and has named his successor as Head of the Royal House of Araucania and Patagonia in a written act known to his Council of the Kingdom and Council of State." "[...] [T]he name of the heir remains a secret of the two Councils [the Council of the Kingdom and the Council of State." ] Diego Grez (talk) 06:22, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- Now it's confusing to me but still. Also do you know if Orélie-Antoine ever made a royal house? Like for example Queen Elizabeth of England is from the house of Windsor. The website I showed you it refers to the house as the Royal House of Araucania and Patagonia and no name. Spongie555 (talk) 06:37, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- Apparently the Royal House in exile is in Tourtoirac, France, where Orélie Antoine was born. That house is also a French monument or something like that, and is also a museum that has Mapuche things. Diego Grez (talk) 21:11, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- No not a real house I mean like Royal house like for example List of royal houses articles names them. Spongie555 (talk) 21:25, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- There is a user arguing the neutrality of the kingdoms article beacuse of the infobox. Look at the articles history it says. Spongie555 (talk) 02:30, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
- The argument for the infobox has moved to Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/Noticeboard#Infobox? also. Spongie555 (talk) 00:01, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

WikiProject Indigenous peoples of the Americans
Hi Diego, I noticed that you were active on the Qhichwa Simi wiki. Would you have any interest in developing a WikiProject Indigenous peoples of the Americans? The discussion, such that it is, is at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Indigenous peoples of the Americas. Cheers, -Uyvsdi (talk) 00:17, 9 February 2011 (UTC)Uyvsdi

Cultural/ecological regions of South America
Hi, there's a discussion at WP talk:WPIPNA of how to best categorize cultural/ecological regions of the Americas to best organize articles about indigenous peoples. Here's a rough draft - what would you suggest to adequately cover all areas of South America?
- Altiplano
- Amazon Basin
- Andes
- Atacama Desert
- Brazilian Highlands
- Gran Chaco
- Guianas
- Llanos
- Pampas
- Pantanal
- Southern Cone.
Any thoughts or suggestions (or a complete rewrite!) would be greatly appreciated! Cheers, -70.57.253.181 (talk) 19:58, 10 February 2011 (UTC)Uyvsdi
- That's good, but you could divide (perhaps) the Southern Cone section into Patagonia (most of which is Argentina's) and Southern Chile. I've never heard about indigenous people inhabiting the Andes, but they created altiplanos, perhaps those could be merged? (I might be wrong, though). Diego Grez (talk) 20:12, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
- So...
- Altiplano and Andes
- Amazon Basin
- Atacama Desert
- Brazilian Highlands
- Gran Chaco
- Guianas
- Llanos
- Pampas
- Pantanal
- Patagonia
- Southern Chile
Would this cover all of the north? Does Llanos cover all of northern Colombia/Venezuela? -Thanks, Uyvsdi (talk) 20:35, 10 February 2011 (UTC)Uyvsdi

Hi!
Hello there! I apologize for my errors - I'm definitely learning as I go and am trying to make all of the necessary edits asap! Everyone here has been so nice and patient! I'm trying to develop a wikipedia page and I now understand the rules much better than when I started earlier today. I'm finding as many sources as I can and am being careful with wording. I just saw your note now and again, I am learning as I go on how to maneuver through the site! I wish there were more hours in a day. Thank you and I appreciate any advice you may have down the road - hope as time passes I'll make less mistakes! Again - a big Thank you! :) Best, Andrea — Preceding unsigned comment added by StoneandStone (talk • contribs) 06:25, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

March 2011 GAN backlog elimination drive a week away
WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of March. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 50. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. On behalf of my co-coordinator Wizardman, we hope we can see you in March. MuZemike delivered by MuZebot 00:27, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
Late
I know its very late after the argument if the kingdom exsisted on the talk page but i found something will working on Philippe I article. I found a reference from a book on google books that says that Philippe I of Araucania and Patagonia has a letter from the Counsul of El Savador in Houstan that recognizes him as king in exile. Here is the link and its on page 16 [3]. Spongie555 (talk) 04:57, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- Wow, that's interesting. One of the next days I'm going to go to the public library (where I casually saw this book, En la Patagonia, some years ago) to read that book :) Diego Grez (talk) 05:46, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- I don't know how much the book talks about the kingdom but that was interesting fact. Also I'm finally working on Philippe I article in my sandbox I hope to get a DYK(only if it was a DYK today because today is his birthday) with it but I can't find many sources that actually talk about his life(I dont use books to write my articles I use websites mostly so I have trouble finding many sources). Spongie555 (talk) 08:04, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, good luck! I would have helped you if I had the time, but I'm a bit short of it :P Diego Grez (talk) 16:06, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- Getting his article to 1500 words is proving more of a challenge then I expected especially with not many third party sources for him. Also if you ever have the time(as you said you didn't) help would be appreciated. Spongie555 (talk) 08:17, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- Um... I think I can find you some good sources for the Philippe's article. I'll do something for that article in some more hours :) Diego Grez (talk) 16:54, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

Valued Contributor Award | ||
You have been identified as a valued contributor and your efforts are appreciated. We are honored to present you with the Valued Contributor Award and we thank you for donating your time, expertise and effort to Wikipedia. Keep up the good work. Thanks. (more details) |
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your post at the Wiki Guides project. First, I want to say thank you very much for sticking with this project we call Wikipedia. It shows a real sense of commitment on your part and I appreciate it. You have been a model Wikipedian and had to go through a lot to get here.
I believe Wikipedia has a problem with the way it treats users, especially new users. I don't think Wikipedia understands how users feel when they try to contribute — not understanding the rules — and then having their efforts deleted and being scolded too. I have been researching this for the past couple of months. Sometime in the next couple months, I am hoping to write up some basic changes to make Wikipedia a more friendly place. I would like to ask some questions and get your input and suggestions sometime in the next few weeks. I think your viewpoint would be extremely valuable considering all that you have gone through. Would it be OK if I stopped by sometime in the next few weeks? Thanks again for everything. - Hydroxonium (H3O+) 05:01, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
- I'll be glad to help, Hydroxonium. And thanks for all of those words, I really appreciate it. Diego Grez (talk) 05:16, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, also. Yes, I also think that Wikipedia has a problem with the way it treats users. When I came here, I did not know nothing about Wikipedia's seriousness, so I began creating (innocently) fake articles on myself, my talk page was flooded with hostile messages saying the articles would be deleted, etc, etc. That needs changing, yes. Diego Grez (talk) 05:18, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you. I'll be back in the next few days/weeks when I get through with some of this research. Thanks. - Hydroxonium (H3O+) 05:44, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 February newsletter
So begins round two of the WikiCup! We now have eight pools, each with eight random contestants. This round will continue until the end of April, when the top two of each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers of those remaining, will make it to round three. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions) (first, with 487 points) and Hurricanehink (submissions) (second, with 459), who stormed the first round. Casliber (submissions) finished third with 223. Twelve others finished with over 100 points- well done to all of you! The final standings in round one can be seen here. A mere 8 points were required to reach round two; competition will no doubt be much more fierce this round, so be ready for a challenge! A special thanks goes, again, to Jarry1250 (submissions) for dealing with all bot work. This year's bot, as well as running smoothly, is doing some very helpful things that last year's did not. Also, thanks to Stone (submissions) for some helpful behind-the-scenes updating and number crunching.
Some news for those who are interested- March will see a GAN backlog elimination drive, which you are still free to join. Organised by WikiProject Good articles, the drive aims to minimise the GAN backlog and offers prizes to those who help out. Of course, you may well be able to claim WikiCup points for the articles you review as part of the drive. Also ongoing is the Great Backlog Drive, looking to work on clearing all of the backlogs on Wikipedia; again, incentives are offered, and the spirit of friendly competition is alive, while helping the encyclopedia is the ultimate aim. Though unrelated to the WikiCup, these may well be of interest to some of you.
Just a reminder of the rules; if you have done significant work on content this year and it is promoted in this round, you may claim for it. Also, anything that was promoted after the end of round one but before the beginning of round two may be claimed for in round two. Details of the rules can be found on this page. For those interested in statistics, a running total of claims can be seen here, and a very interesting table of that information (along with the highest scorers in each category) can be seen here. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! Hello
Welcome back. I saw you retired and came back so welcome back. After months of pushing it off I finally created the Philippe Boiry article two days ago(I probably won't go for DYK due to limited sources but there is an article about him here [4] but I can't read Spanish). But glad to see your back. Spongie555 (talk) 05:38, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Well done! Diego Grez (talk) 21:55, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Hey Diego, I'm growing weary of the debates over this image. I know the image was provided by Chilean government contracted equipment for free to the world's media. Unfortunately the article is most likely buried within the pay section of the English language newspaper Santiago Times. Can you use your language skills to locate a similar article on a free site, even if it's in Spanish, or find a good email contact for the Ministry of Mining so we can get some clarification on this? Perhaps invite them to review the article, I'm sure they would be supportive of it. If they could simply upload their copy of the original to their Flickr acct with an appropriate license it would solve a lot of problems. Cheers, Veriss (talk) 05:27, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- I agree, I'll see what can I do, cheers. Diego Grez (talk) 17:34, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

A drink
On 29 March 2009, I took my first small steps as a Wikipedian.
Now, 2 years, 47,000 edits, 2 RfAs and many memories later, I'd like to share a drink, on my "wiki-birthday", with a few editors who made my early experience here a pleasant one. As much as I would like to thank each of those editors in non-templated fashion, or even buy them a drink in person, I fear I would be celebrating my fourth wiki-birthday (and very drunk!) before the task was complete. Thus, please accept this as a small, if slightly impersonal, token of what these collaborations, words of advice and moments shared have meant to me.
Here's to all the happy memories of the last two years and to many more to come! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts?
What can I say, my friend? It's been an interesting year, hasn't it? Thanks for having the manners not to make me look like an idiot for getting you unblocked. ;) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:08, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 March newsletter
We are half way through round two of the WikiCup, which will end on 28 April. Of the 64 current contestants, 32 will make it through to the next round; the two highest in each pool, and the 16 next highest scorers. At the time of writing, our current overall leader is Hurricanehink (submissions) with 231 points, who leads Pool H. Piotrus (submissions) (Pool G) also has over 200 points, while 9 others (three of whom are in Pool D) have over 100 points. Remember that certain content (specifically, articles/portals included in at least 20 Wikipedias as of 31 December 2010 or articles which are considered "vital") is worth double points if promoted to good or featured status, or if it appears on the main page in the Did You Know column. There were some articles last round which were eligible for double points, but which were not claimed for. For more details, see Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring.
A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round three is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. J Milburn and The ed17 00:55, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
I missed the prod, and while I was one of its early detractors, I've come to think that it is workable article with potential for improvement. I saw that you voted for keeping it, so I was wondering if you have some spare time to put into it. Looking forward to your response. Likeminas (talk) 17:33, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, if I've got the time in the next few days, I'll help improving the article, and if you want me to do something specific with it, get in contact with me :) Cheers, Diego Grez (talk) 18:18, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
- As you can see this article attracts many of our neighbors, and many statements in it quickly get challenged. So it's important that the article contains only reliable sources. If you can find some, that would be a huge help.Likeminas (talk) 00:51, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for your participation in the March 2011 GAN backlog elimination drive
On behalf of User:Wizardman and myself, we would like to take the time and thank you for your contributions made as part of the March 2011 Good articles backlog elimination drive. Awards and barnstars will go out shortly for those who have reviewed a certain number of articles.
During the backlog drive, in the month of March 2011,
- 522 GA nominations were undertaken.
- 423 GA nominations passed.
- 72 GA nominations failed.
- 27 GA nominations were on hold.
We started the GA backlog elimination drive with 378 GA nominations remaining, with 291 that were not reviewed at all. By 2:00, April 1, 2011, the backlog was at 171 GA nominations, with 100 that were left unreviewed.
At the start of the drive, the oldest unreviewed GA nomination was 101 days (Andrei Kirilenko (politician), at 20 November 2010, reviewed and passed 1 March 2011); at the end of the drive the oldest unreviewed GA nomination was 39 days (Gery Chico, at 24 February 2011, still yet to be reviewed as of this posting).
While we did not achieve the objective of getting the backlog of outstanding GA nominations down to below 50, we reduced the GA backlog by over half. The GA reviews also seemed to be of a higher quality and have consistently led, to say the least, to marginal improvements to those articles (although there were significant improvements to many, even on the some of the nominations that were failed).
If you would like to comment on the drive itself and maybe even make suggestions on how to improve the next one, please make a comment at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Good articles/GAN backlog elimination drives/March 2011#Feedback. Another GA backlog elimination drive is being planned for later this year, tentatively for September or October 2011. Also, if you have any comments or remarks on how to improve the Good article process in general, Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles can always use some feedback at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Good articles.
Again, on behalf of User:Wizardman and myself, thank you for making the March 2011 GA backlog elimination drive a success.

Orphaned non-free image File:Brother Louie MT.ogg
Thanks for uploading File:Brother Louie MT.ogg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude2 (talk) 03:48, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
Tornado articles
Please do not move tornado outbreak articles to specify the United States in the title. The majority of tornado outbreaks occur within the United States so it's assumed to have taken place there unless otherwise specified in the title. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 13:53, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
- Meh. Nice systemic bias. You just said "the majority of tornado outbreaks [...]" occur in the United States, so... it's kind of obvious that the name of the country should be in the title, how the hell would I know if the outbreak was in the UK, Russia, the US, or Mexico? It should be clearly specified in its title. In my opinion. Diego Grez (talk) 15:14, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 April newsletter
Round 2 of the 2011 WikiCup is over, and the new round will begin on 1 May. Note that any points scored in the interim (that is, for content promoted or reviews completed on 29-30 April) can be claimed in the next round, but please do not start updating your submissions' pages until the next round has begun. Fewer than a quarter of our original contestants remain; 32 enter round 3, and, in two months' time, only 16 will progress to our penultimate round. Casliber (submissions), who led Pool F, was our round champion, with 411 points, while 7 contestants scored between 200 and 300 points. At the other end of the scale, a score of 41 was high enough to reach round 3; more than five times the score required to reach round 2, and competition will no doubt become tighter now we're approaching the later rounds. Those progressing to round 3 were spread fairly evenly across the pools; 4 progressed from each of pools A, B, E and H, while 3 progressed from both pools C and F. Pools D and G were the most successful; each had 5 contestants advancing.
This round saw our first good topic points this year; congratulations to Hurricanehink (submissions) and Nergaal (submissions) who also led pool H and pool B respectively. However, there remain content types for which no points have yet been scored; featured sounds, featured portals and featured topics. In addition to prizes for leaderboard positions, the WikiCup awards other prizes; for instance, last year, a prize was awarded to Candlewicke (submissions) (who has been eliminated) for his work on In The News. For this reason, working on more unusual content could be even more rewarding than usual!
Sorry this newsletter is going out a little earlier than expected- there is a busy weekend coming up! A running total of claims can be seen here. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Speedy deletion nomination of Piñericosas
A tag has been placed on Piñericosas, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to an article talk page, file description page, file talk page, MediaWiki page, MediaWiki talk page, category talk page, portal talk page, template talk page, help talk, user page, user talk or special page from the main/article space.
If you can fix the redirect to point to a mainspace page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you are fixing the redirect. If you think the redirect should be retained as is for some reason, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the article's talk page directly to give your reasons. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. DASHBot (talk) 06:00, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Monkey userpage
I recently reverted your change to another user's userpage.
The relevant policy is Wikipedia:User pages, which says "Extremely offensive material may be removed on sight by any editor" ... and also suggests that it should be removed "if user page activity becomes disruptive to the community or gets in the way of the task of building an encyclopedia".
"Simulation and disruption of the MediaWiki interface" is the section that I think you want, but it goes on to say "by preventing important links or controls from being easily seen or used, making text on the page hard to read or unreadable (other than by way of commenting out), or replacing the expected interface with a disruptive simulation, may be removed or remedied by any user. Inappropriate internal or external links that unexpectedly direct the reader to unreasonable locations or violate prohibitions on linking may also be removed or remedied by any user".
I don't feel the content in question meets those requirements. The section open to dispute here is "replacing the expected interface with a disruptive simulation" (my emphasis).
I strongly suggest that you also read Wikipedia:User pages#On others' user pages for advice on how to proceed. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 01:00, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

We're half way through round 3 of the 2011 WikiCup. There are currently 32 remaining in the competition, but only 16 will progress to our penultimate round. Casliber (submissions), of pool D, is our overall leader with nearly 200 points, while pools A, B and C are led by Racepacket (submissions), Hurricanehink (submissions) and Canada Hky (submissions) respectively. The score required to reach the next round is 35, though this will no doubt go up significantly as the round progresses. We have a good number of high scorers, but also a considerable number who are yet to score. Please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. Also, an important note concerning nominations at featured article candidates: if you are nominating content for which you intend to claim WikiCup points, please make this clear in the nomination statement so that the FAC director and his delegates are aware of the fact.

The article Thomas Anders v. Dieter Bohlen has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Article covers one small part of the history of the band Modern Talking, and does so incoherently. Does not establish notability. Makes allegations against living people that may have WP:BLP implications. Proposed for merger to Modern Talking, but the folks there don't want it, finding it to be of no value.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

- No value? OMFG, the lawsuit was the main reason why the band broke up. Anyway, do whatever you want with the article, I won't bother defending it. Diego Grez (talk) 02:32, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry about that; on second read, my template may have been terse to the point of sounding harsh. I did ask if they wanted to take it; I don't know anything about the band, but it seems like there's a pretty active community for it. That's what they had to say. It seemed to me like it could be worked in, but frankly I couldn't understand it well enough to say, and I can't read the original sources to help sort it out. So, you definitely have my sympathies. I'll leave the PROD on the article and let it run its course. // ⌘macwhiz (talk) 03:28, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
- There's no such pretty active community for it, rather an user who denies the existence of certain singers contracted for the choruses, and refuses everything that says anything bad about Dieter Bohlen, that's clear if you read the archives of the Modern Talking talk page. As I said, I'm not going to do anything against this article's deletion, it's a rather "take it or leave it" for them, but they obviously won't take it. Diego Grez (talk) 03:36, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 June newsletter
We are half way through 2011, and entering the penultimate round of this year's WikiCup; the semi-finals are upon us! Points scored in the interim (29/30 June) may be counted towards next round, but please do not update your submissions' pages until the next round has begun. 16 contestants remain, and all have shown dedication to the project to reach this far. Our round leader was Casliber (submissions) who, among other things, successfully passed three articles through featured article candidates and claimed an impressive 29 articles at Did You Know, scoring 555 points. Casliber led pool D. Pool A was led by Wizardman (submissions), claiming points for a featured article, a featured list and seven good article reviews, while pool C was led by Eisfbnore (submissions), who claimed for two good articles, ten articles at Did You Know and four good article reviews. They scored 154 and 118 respectively. Pool B was by far our most competitive pool; six of the eight competitors made it through to round 4, with all of them scoring over 100 points. The pool was led by Hurricanehink (submissions), who claimed for, among other things, three featured articles and five good articles. In addition to the four pool leaders, 12 others (the four second places, and the 8 next highest overall) make up our final 16. The lowest scorer who reached round 4 scored 76 points; a significant increase on the 41 needed to reach round 3. Eight of our semi-finalists scored at least twice as much as this.
No points were awarded this round for featured pictures, good topics or In the News, and no points have been awarded in the whole competition for featured topics, featured portals or featured sounds. Instead, the highest percentage of points has come from good articles. Featured articles, despite their high point cost, are low in number, and so, overall, share a comparable number of points with Did You Know, which are high in number but low in cost. A comparatively small but still considerable number of points come from featured lists and good article reviews, rounding out this round's overall scores.
We would again like to thank Jarry1250 (submissions) and Stone (submissions) for invaluable background work, as well as all of those helping to provide reviews for the articles listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Please do keep using it, and please do help by providing reviews for the articles listed there. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews generally at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup.
Two final notes: Firstly, please remember to state your participation in the WikiCup when nominating articles at FAC. Finally, some WikiCup-related statistics can be seen here and here, for those interested, though it appears that neither are completely accurate at this time. J Milburn and The ed17 23:30, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
Deletion of
You proposed that Guy-Greenbrier earthquake swarm be deleted. This is a sourced article and an on-going event. A Google search finds numerous sources that could be included. I'm curious why this considered an uncontroversial deletion? If you thought that it was non-notable — despite the article passing the usual Google search litmus tests — why not initiate a discussion on the talk page first to allow a few days for editors to respond? The deletion process has become perhaps the most off-putting aspect of Wikipedia to new editors. I've been around here for a while so a proposed deletion of my articles, like this one, doesn't phase me. But if this article had been created by a new editor, it certainly would have contributed to the harmful and popular idea that Wikipedia is controlled by a few editors and perhaps resulted in that new editor not contributing further. People at the Strategy Wiki keep wondering about editor retention and keep assuming that a gender bias, blah blah blash, is the reason all the while ignoring obvious problems like deletionism. Please keep in mind Wikipedia:NOTPAPER. Having articles on smaller topics doesn't hurt anything. Jason Quinn (talk) 07:52, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been reverted or removed.
- If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor then please discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page. Alternatively you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant notice boards.
- If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, please seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive; until the dispute is resolved through consensus. Continuing to edit disruptively could result in loss of editing privileges. Thank you. --Otberg (talk) 16:34, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
My apology for my error
Diego Gez, I'd like to offer you my apology for stating on AN/I that you are still under restrictions because I totally misread the last discussion on the topic on AN. As an editor free of all restrictions, you are, of course, entitled to bring problems to AN/I, although I continue to think this particular one is a content dispute which should be dealt with on the article's talk page. That is, however, irrelevant to my error, for which I beg your pardon. Best, Beyond My Ken (talk) 22:25, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
- No problem. I'm sorry for taking the problem to the wrong channel; since the problem couldn't be solved either in the "Neutral point of view" pages nor the article's talk page... I thought the next step should be ANI, but now I know I was wrong... Diego Grez (talk) 22:47, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
Stay safe and read carefully
I did not threaten to cut off hands. Pearlasia Gamboa did, for using these reliable and verifiable sources. Then she threatened numerous editors for applying WIkipedia standards. There was just a major 5 page news story about her and this, and much discussion of threats against the editors who simply applied RS and V standards.
There was just a major 5 page news story in the San Francisco Weekly on threats to Wikipedians. Can you help restore the content, but modify the poster's wording and phrasing, so that the "quotation" of Pearlasia Gamaboa's threat against Wikipedians does not, itself, look like a threat, so as to allow discussion?
Do not intimidate her. According to the Swedish press, a member of her crime ring already cut up someone's hands for posting information on the crime ring. There is strength and safety in numbers of editors using WP:V and WP:RS.
There is also much discussion now about further using the "improving of Wikipedia" under its V and RS standards, to help in the middle east upheaval.
Thanks, and please stay safe. PPdd (talk) 03:49, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
Nomination of Quiltro for deletion
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Quiltro is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

Quotes from Spanish in Agustín Ross Cultural Center
I'm troubled by the use of translations of quotes in the article, so I've asked about it at the language reference desk. Clarityfiend (talk) 05:32, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, translations of quotes have also been a problem to me in the past; in this article, I tried to make them "transliterated to the 100%" and fixed in some cases to not lose context. Thank you for the work you've done in the article! :) Diego talk 05:39, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, also, I don't know where to point this out: re. the clarification needed tag in the Public library section of the article, I think the source suggests Maturana was the responsible of its creation, not that he presided it. I could have removed the tag just like I've done the other times, but I don't know how to word it. Diego talk 05:43, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
- De nada. I'm just about done. The only things left are the wording of one or two of the quotes. Valenzuela's comment "has had permanently leaked water" sounds really awkward, and how could it be permanent? Presumably it's been fixed by now. The sentence with Bachelet's quote doesn't quite flow as well as it should, but I can't think of a way to word it better, and it's not too bad. Clarityfiend (talk) 07:05, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Please read our criteria for speedy deletion and the reasoning given by the deleting admin: A7: No explanation of the subject's significance (real person, animal, organization, or web content): A1: Not enough context to identify article's subject. WikiCup 2011 July newsletter
We are half way through the penultimate round of this year's WikiCup; there is less than a month to go before we have our final 8. Our pool leaders are Adabow (submissions) (Pool A, 189 points) and PresN (submissions) (Pool B, 165 points). The number of points required to reach the next round is not clear at this time; there are some users who still do not have any recorded points. Please remember to update your submissions' pages promptly. In addition, congratulations to PresN, who scored the first featured topic points in the competition for his work on Thatgamecompany related articles. Most points this round generally have, so far, come from good articles, with only one featured article (White-bellied Sea Eagle, from Casliber (submissions)) and two featured lists (Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story, from PresN and Grammy Award for Best Native American Music Album, from Another Believer (submissions)). Points for Did You Know and good article reviews round out the scoring. No points have been awarded for In the News, good topics or featured pictures this round, and no points for featured sounds or portals have been awarded in the entire competition. On an unrelated note, preparation will be beginning soon for next year's WikiCup- watch this space!
There is little else to be said beyond the usual. Please list anything you need reviewing on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, so others following the WikiCup can help, and please do help if you can by providing reviews for the articles listed there. gentil solicitud de mejoría y traducción por University of the Andes, Venezuela y José Gregorio Hernández y eventual colaboración futura
Querido Diego,

WikiCup 2011 July newsletter
The finals are upon us; we're down to the last few. One of the eight remaining contestants will be this year's WikiCup champion! 150 was the score needed to progress to the final; just under double the 76 required to reach round 4, and more than triple the 41 required to reach round 3. Our eight finalists are:
- Casliber (submissions), Pool A's winner. Casliber has the highest total score in the competition, with 1528, the bulk of which is made up of 8 featured articles. He has the highest number of total featured articles (8, 1 of which was eligible for double points) and total did you knows (72) of any finalist. Casliber writes mostly on biology, including ornithology, botany and mycology.
- PresN (submissions), Pool B's winner and the highest scorer this round. PresN is the only finalist who has scored featured topic points, and he has gathered an impressive 330, but most of his points come from his 4 featured articles, one of which scored double. PresN writes mostly on video games and the Hugo Awards.
- Hurricanehink (submissions), Pool A's runner-up. Hurricanehink's points are mostly from his 30 good articles, more than any other finalist, and he is also the only finalist to score good topic points. Hurricanehink, as his name suggests, writes mostly on meteorology.
- Wizardman (submissions), Pool B's runner-up. Wizardman has completed 86 good article reviews, more than any other finalist, but most of his points come from his 2 featured articles. Wizardman writes mostly on American sport, especially baseball.
- Miyagawa (submissions), the "fastest loser" (Pool A). Miyagawa has written 3 featured lists, one of which was awarded double points, more than any other finalist, but he was awarded points mostly for his 68 did you knows. Miyagawa writes on a variety of topics, including dogs, military history and sport.
- Resolute (submissions), the second "fastest loser" (Pool B). Most of Resolute's points come from his 9 good articles. He writes mostly on Canadian topics, including ice hockey.
- Yellow Evan (submissions), who was joint third "fastest loser" (Pool A). Most of Evan's points come from his 10 good articles, and he writes mostly on meteorology.
- Sp33dyphil (submissions), who was joint third "fastest loser" (Pool B). Most of Phil's points come from his 9 good articles, 4 of which (more than any other finalist) were eligible for double points. He writes mostly on aeronautics.
We say goodbye to our seven other semi-finalists, Another Believer (submissions), Piotrus (submissions), Grandiose (submissions), Stone (submissions), Eisfbnore (submissions), Canada Hky (submissions) and MuZemike (submissions). Everyone still in the competition at this stage has done fantastically well, and contributed greatly to Wikipedia. We're on the home straight now, and we will know our winner in two months.
In other news, preparations for next year's competition have begun with a brainstorming thread. Please, feel free to drop by and share any thoughts you have about how the competition should work next year. Sign ups are not yet open, but will be opened in due course. Watch this space. Further, there has been a discussion about the rule whereby those in the WikiCup must delcare their participation when nominating articles at featured article candidates. This has resulted in a bot being created by new featured article delegate Ucucha (talk · contribs). The bot will leave a message on FAC pages if the nominator is a participant in the WikiCup.
A reminder of the rules: any points scored after August 29 may be claimed for the final round, and please remember to update submission pages promptly. If you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. WikiCup 2011 September newsletter
We are on this year's home straight, with less than a month to go until the winner of the 2011 WikiCup will be decided. The fight for first place is currently being contested by Miyagawa (submissions), Hurricanehink (submissions) and Sp33dyphil (submissions), all of whom have over 200 points. This round has already seen multiple featured articles (1991 Atlantic hurricane season from Hurricanehink and Northrop YF-23 from Sp33dyphil) and a double-scoring featured list (Miyagawa's 1948 Summer Olympics medal table). The scores will likely increase far further before the end of the round on October 31 as everyone ups their pace. There is not much more to say- thoughts about next year's competition are welcome on the WikiCup talk page or the scoring talk page, and signups will open once a few things have been sorted out.

While researching on Luis Miguel Segundo Romance, I came across Billboard's "Hits of the World" and they included a weekly albums chart from Chile. The only downside is that they were only posted on Billboard from 1994-1996, but still I thought you might want to know. Here is the sources. In regards, Erick (talk) 05:00, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
- That's awesome! Are you going to use these charts somewhere? I'll check them later and will see what can I do :P Diego talk 23:15, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
- Yep, I've added #1 albums in already existing articles (HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I , Love Songs (Elton John album), The Division Bell, La Espada & la Pared, Clásicos de la Provincia, Tratar de Estar Mejor, Historias, Aries (album), and Segundo Romance). Glad to help. Erick (talk) 23:26, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
The only other decade I could find with Billboard's "Hits of the Album" for Chile are the 1960s. Erick (talk) 00:26, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
- Great finds! I saw there were some hits by relatively unknown artists outside Chile; will proceed to create articles during this week. TY! Diego talk 12:32, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

- Miyagawa (submissions)
- Wizardman (submissions)
- Casliber (submissions)
- Resolute (submissions)

Prizes for first, second, third and fourth will be awarded, as will prizes for all those who reached the final eight. Every participant who scored in the competition will receive a ribbon of participation. In addition to the prizes based on placement, the following special prizes will be awarded based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, the prize is awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round.
- The Featured Article Award: Casliber (submissions), for his performance in round 2. Hurricanehink (submissions) matched the score, but Casliber won the tiebreaker.
- The Good Article Award: Yellow Evan (submissions), for his performance in round 4.
- The Featured List Award: Miyagawa (submissions), for his performance in round 4. PresN (submissions) matched the score, but Miyagawa won the tiebreaker.
- The Recognised Topic Award (for good and featured topics): PresN (submissions), for his performance in round 3.
- The Did You Know Award: The Bushranger (submissions), for his performance in round 1.
- The In the News Award: Candlewicke (submissions), for his performance in round 1.
- The Reviewer Award (for good article reviews): Wizardman (submissions), for his performance in round 3.
No prize was awarded for featured pictures, sounds or portals, as none were claimed throughout the competition. The awards will be handed out over the next few days. Congratulations to all our participants, and especially our winners; we've all had fun, and Wikipedia has benefitted massively from our content work.
Preparation for next year's WikiCup is ongoing. Interested parties are invited to sign up and participate in our straw polls. It's been a pleasure to work with you all this year, and, whoever's taking part in and running the competition in 2012, we hope to see you all in January! Feedback Dashboard task force
Hi Diego Grez,
Since you were a part of the WikiGuides project, I thought I'd give you a heads-up about a new way you can help/mentor newbies on en.wiki: we've recently released a feature called the Feedback Dashboard, a queue that updates in real time with feedback and editing questions from new registered contributors who have attempted to make at least one edit. Steven Walling and I are putting together a task force for experienced Wikipedians who might be interested in monitoring the queue and responding to the feedback: details are here at Wikipedia:Feedback Dashboard. Please sign up if you're interested in helping out! Thanks, Maryana (WMF) (talk) 22:00, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
