Page move
[edit]I recommend a page move to Daniel Hernandez Jr. He won't be an intern forever, and article names without disambiguating parentheses are nice. Relatedly, can we come to some kind of consensus as to the presence or absence of an accent in his name? Sources differ, and it's not just a question of English-language media messing up because Spanish-language news differs as well. Roscelese (talk ⋅ contribs) 21:58, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed on the Jr. part, as his Twitter page has him self-identifying as "Jr." However, the issue of the accent is unclear: Mr. Hernandez does not use the accent on his Twitter page, but this could possibly be a case of typing the accent not being intuitive to many users. Also the use of the accent is split between Latino sources such as Fox News Latino and more Americanized sources which appear to ignore it. I think this may come down to finding out what his preferences are. KimChee (talk) 10:07, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
Merge & Redirect
[edit]An Afd has been initiated for this article. In that I do believe Mr. Hernandez falls under People notable for only one event I hate to see all references to his aid to U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords completely forgotten. I have moved the pertinent information of his contributions over to 2011 Tucson shooting under Target of the attack and have recommended a redirect of Mr. Hernandez name to 2011 Tucson shooting….let me know your thoughts. Thanks ShoesssS Talk 19:10, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
- This article had been nominated before. I know the result was no consensus, however I disagree with the nomination as I believe is uncalled for. Although Daniel Hernandez has decided to keep a low profile, his notability regarding his actions have been widely covered by Time, The New York Times and CNN. President Obama praised him as a hero. We have entire full stand alone articles about individuals like Chris Crocker who became notable over one single event (crying for Britney Spears) and we can't acknowledge the notability of a hero like this gentleman by providing his own article?. Thanks --Camilo Sanchez (talk) 17:38, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- Hello Camilo. This situation is one of the truest gray areas I have come across, in my time here, at Wikipedia. A case could be made on all sides. The first for a straight out delete, in that Mr. Hernandez does currently fall under People notable for only one event. Reviewing the references and other available information on-line, the average individual, when reading these articles, cannot find or separate Mr. Hernandez National notability from his activities other than the 2011 Tucson shooting. Hence the one event guideline where it says;”… The general rule in many cases is to cover the event, not the person.” If you believe and follow this principal you express a Delete opinion. However, the guideline does go on to say; “…If the event is highly significant, and the individual's role within it is a large one, a separate article is generally appropriate”. Reading this, in my personal opinion, the incident is a major event, the question becomes does Mr. Hernandez being credited with saving Mrs. Giffords life constitute a large enough role in the situation to generate enough notability to warrant a separate article on Mr. Hernandez here on Wikipedia outside this one incident? If you believe it does, you express Keep. Now, my opinion, I felt Mr. Hernandez demonstrated a true hero’s character by coming to the aid and comfort of Mrs. Giffords in such a volatile situation, without thought or pause that harm may become him. However, where his actions so notable that they overshadowed the event or were equal to the notability of the event? Would those same actions, in and of themselves, which are performed everyday by our police – firemen and military personal face, have warranted articles here on Wikipedia for those individuals? Most likely not. But given the circumstances of the incident – the individuals involved with the event and Mr. Hernandez’s participation, I followed the guideline’s of “…if the individual is only notable for that incident and is all that that person is associated with in source coverage… the name of the person should redirect to the article on the incident”. That is way I merged the significant information over to both 2011 Tucson shooting and Gabrielle Giffords, under attempted assassination, and recommened a Merge&Redirect to the shooting incident. Hope this helps explain some of my rational for my opinion at the AFD. With regards to Chris Crocker, that is a discussion for another day. Thanks for listening. - Your rationale is flawed. The individual in question was singled out by the media and President Barack Obama. There is no question on whether this guy saved or not Gifford's life, he did save her life in an action that although measured in seconds, meant the difference between life and death. To discuss his notability in this encyclopedia is subjective. No guidelines are necessary to realize that at least the media and the American government represented by Obama acknowledged how important was his quick thinking. Do we need to wait for Gifford's to come out and publicly thank Hernandez for saving her life for this article to deserve its presence here? --Camilo Sanchez (talk) 22:10, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

So..
[edit]Yeah well, so much "debate" about merging this article but nobody actually gets to do it. I feel like some people just love starting debates. --Camilo Sanchez (talk) 21:59, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
So for the merge
[edit]So I'm probably going to attempt to pull of this merge soon, but I was wondering what info everyone thought would be worth merging. I'm not sure what info from this should be added to the shooting article that isn't already in it now, since adding too much of his bio would be a problem with WP:UNDUE. Thanks!--Yaksar (let's chat) 04:12, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Hey Yaksar, I already merged the information to 2011 Tucson shooting when the AFD first started. Hope this helps. ShoesssS Talk 12:48, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Ah jeez, silly me, I probably should've noticed that if I had looked just a bit deeper. Alright then , I guess a redirect is now in order, sorry for your time.--Yaksar (let's chat) 13:17, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Re-creating article
[edit]I'm seeing continuing coverage of this guy - eg. [1], [2], [3]. Should we consider splitting the article back out? –Roscelese (talk ⋅ contribs) 18:47, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
