Ustad Badar uz Zaman

[edit]
Badar uz Zaman, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.

You are more than welcome to continue making quality contributions to Wikipedia. Note that because you are a logged-in user, you can create articles yourself, and don't have to post a request. However, you are more than welcome to continue submitting work to Articles for Creation.

Thank you for helping improve Wikipedia!

I have moved your article to main space, but it still needs a lot of cleaning up. For example, the newspaper references for Ustad Badar uz Zaman's awards are not complete - the title of the article (and author/page number if possible) will help other editors find them. A few of the newspaper sources in the rest of the article are okay-ish, which was why I accepted the article. All the best! Sionk (talk) 02:38, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for Creation Appeal

[edit]
Articles for Creation is backlogged and needs YOUR help!

Articles for Creation is desperately in need of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors and administrators alike, to help us clear a record backlog of pending submissions. There is currently a significant backlog of 1881 submissions waiting to be reviewed. These submissions are generally from new editors who have never edited Wikipedia before. A prompt, constructive review of submissions could significantly editor retention.

Do you have what it takes?
  1. Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
  2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
  3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
  4. Are you (at least) autoconfirmed?
  5. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog.

Click here to review to a random submissionArticle selected by erwin85's random article script on toolserver.

We would greatly appreciate your help. Currently, only a small handful of users are reviewing articles. Any help, even if it's just 1 or 2 reviews, would be extremely beneficial.

Hello Umerali2204 - I have edited the Nigel Cox page hundreds of times at this point, and have had 3 separate editors review it. Nobody see's the Bias that is being pointed to. I feel the article is ready for the community to contribute to so it can become stronger. Can you please accept the article with the community contribution aspect in mind? Everyone who has seen it comments that it reads clearly. Thanks for your help.

My dear, Wikipedia does work on some principles and ethics. From your article writing it seems that the person is notable, yet Wikipedia demands some proofs for it which we call citations. You must give proofs/references of the points marked with [citation needed] or delete them, and I'll accept your article. I'll suggest that you go through the Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners and then edit your article. Regards Umerali2204 (talk) 04:51, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for accepting my article Umerali, after making the changes you asked where [cn], i can see where you are coming from, thanks for the guidance, i have made the following modifications and deletions.

Removed - Birthdate reference. Added - Transglobe expidition reference for the land & Sea citation. Added - The Argus reference for the "influenced his art" citation. Removed - "Commisioned paintings world wide" citation. Added - Christies Auction Reference

Can you accept it from here or do I have to do something else? Thanks for helping the article.

Denny

Dkalaf (talk) 12:10, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As you have not resubmitted the article thus i've not reviewed it. Looking at the article closely, yet I've marked some other points with [citation needed]. Actually Sir ( hope your Salutation is Mr. :p) the reason is that the portion from 1 Biography to 3.1 Paintings and technique is much weakly cited and the references are too weak. As the references from 1 - 4 are from same origin (1 & 3 are exactly the same). The reference 5 has been used in the citation of 3 points. From 6 onwards the referencing is much stronger and it provides notability of the subject. Hope it will help you. Regards Umerali2204 (talk) 19:13, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Umerali - It is Mr.  :) I have resubmitted so you can review. I made the additional changes and removed the information I have that I can't find an external reference for. Thanks for finding the typo in the reference 3, I have made the change. I've made all of the changes, can the community start to contribute on this one yet? I want to share it with the world. Thanks - Denny

Dear Spartymantz you are welcome, the article was better composed yet It needs much attention otherwise it would be deleted. Each Masjid/Mosque holds Jumma prayer, Eid prayers thus each Mosque cannot be included in Wikipedia, Being a Muslim I thought to deem necessary as the centre is one of the few in Missouri. Articles for creation/Lal Singh Dil

[edit]

Hello Umer, Thanks for pointing out the problems with my article on Punajbi poet Lal Singh Dil. Since I am not used to the Wiki style I would like a clarification. I shall be grateful if you could explain what is meant by the expression ‘not adequately supported by reliable sources’. Here is what I have to say.

My text is supported mainly by three sources: Paramjit S Judge, Niupamma Dutt, and editor (Prem Prakash , name not mentioned in the references, I could do that now). Dr Paramjit S Judge is a well recognized scholar and the book from which I am quoting is a very well researched work. Nirupamma Dutt is a journalist, poet and translator and has been working, translating and writing on Dil at least since 1994. She had known the poet personally. And her translation of Lal Singh Dil’s autobiography has been published by Penguin India recently. Prem Praksh, the editor of Lal singh Dil’s collected works ‘Naglok’ is a well known Punjabi short story writer and had been a close friend of the poet. Of course, this work is in Gurmukhi Script and not accessible to non-Gurmukhi script readers.

All these are quite authentic and reliable sources on Dil. The fourth source, that is me, you may discount because it may look as if I am promoting my own ‘research’, which is not the case at all, though. But my writing on Dil receives considerable strength from the fact that five poems of Dil translated by me have been published in MPT, as you can see, which, I am sure, lends considerable authority to my writing on Dil.

Besides these sources I have appended a list of external sources on the Internet which, I am sure, corroborate most of my text, though of course they may not fully satisfy Wiki’s criteria of reliability. In addition I have also listed two books under ‘Further Reading’, both of which are in Gurmukhi script and not accessible to non-Gurmukhi readers. This is indeed a barrier, but these books contain critical and biographical essays on Dil by the most prominent poets, scholars and critics ( numbering about 30) of Indian Punjabi literature. These have been my source material.

I’m sure you have noticed that my text is barely, almost drily, factual and the facts about Dil’s life are so transparent that they are visible on the Internet sources, apart from the texts I have quoted:

The Naxalite Movement in the Indian Punjab in the late sixties, Dil’s participation in it , his “low caste” origins and the discrimination he faced on this account, his emergence as a poet out of this revolutionary movement, his being jailed and tortures he suffered in jail, his escape to Uttar Pradesh and conversion to Islam, the kind of menial jobs he undertook, his return home to Samrala and running a tea shop , his death, his poetic works – all this is so plain and transparent on the Internet for anyone to explore and judge.

Tcghai (talk) 16:34, 3 March 2013 (UTC)I should say, the Infobox on Dil in my article for creation is an edited version of the bio table given by the editor of Dil’s collected work ‘Naglok’. And my text is not much beyond an expansion of that bio table. A translation from the Punjabi along with its original version can also be provided by me if that will work to satisfy Wiki’s standard of reliability. Will citing from the Punjabi sources along with their English translations work to further authenticate the article text?[reply]

I would like to know what specifically you would like me to do to make the article acceptable on Wikipedia. I am sure you understand my problem and are willing to help out. We also understand that Wiki is a cooperative and collaborative effort. Thanks and regards.

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:48, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New deal for page patrollers

[edit]

Hi Umerali2204,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Self proclaimed" surgical strike

[edit]

Hi there, re: this, I've reverted the bulk of your changes because they do not appear constructive to me. 1) You've misused the minor checkbox. This should only be used for cosmetic changes like typo/grammar fixes, not for anything that could be the subject of dispute, which your changes absolutely could be. 2) Slapping "Self proclaimed" before "surgical strikes" only comes off as editorialising and contravenes WP:ALLEGEDLY. 3) You erroneously refactored the title of this article, which does not contain "Self proclaimed" in its title. Thanks. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 14:14, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
