List of people in Playboy 2000–present

I left a message at the IP's talk page. They seem to hop though since the previous edits came from a different IP. I guess if they add it again, then protection may be in order. Dismas|(talk) 17:29, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the source. Dismas|(talk) 17:59, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

hi

I don't think you understand. I am not trying to get anywhere, or accomplish anything. I'm just not into that. I'm perfectly happy where I am and with what I've accomplished. Some Friendly Advice: I encourage you to review my edits more closely. --Learneggs12 (talk) 19:18, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Milan demography and the IP editor

Hi Townlake, in re this, just letting you know. It's getting a little wearisome trying to deal with an enthusiastic IP who keeps bouncing to different addresses and continuing to add garbled text to the article. I'm almost at the point of requesting semi-protection, except they intend no malice and just seem to not understand. Please review my latest comment at the talk page and if you have anything to pull out of your bag-of-tricks to get the message across, I could use the help. Actually we could use the help - do you know of anyone else we could recruit to help with this? Regards. Franamax (talk) 22:33, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi again - thanks for the note. I should be back from real life distractions sometime in the next week... until then, I'd suggest flagging this for anyone who's monitoring the WikiProject Italy discussion pages. While the IP editor seems to be acting in good faith, being polite hasn't worked to address the very real problems here. Townlake (talk) 01:25, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Newport Beach, California

In this (diff) edit, you deleted some very handy links for people looking for more information about the city. Another editor I guess I reverted your edit. I took a closer look and found only two spammy links there, which I handled individually. First, someone placed "power.networksolutions.com" piped to "Newport Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau," so I looked up the Newport Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau, then repaired that link. Second, there is an obvious domain-squatter who added "www.cityofnewportbeach.com" piped to "Newport Beach information from a local's perspective," so I eliminated that link. Your focus did lead to a helpful cleanup, so thank you. Newportm (talk) 02:56, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

RFA Question 11

Just wondering, what is it about question #11 that had you decide the way you did. I am not asking you to change from oppose to support. I just want to get some information. Sebwite (talk) 05:10, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for asking. My opinion is that your perspective on the proper use of AFD is severely off-target; your "deciding vote" answer to Q15 only served to reinforce that. Doesn't mean you're a bad dude, just means your becoming an admin would be risky for those of us who work on articles in obscure topic areas. Good luck. Townlake (talk) 23:15, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
Don't get me wrong. I am not trying to pressure anyone to change their vote. I am just trying to learn something. I never expected to become an admin in my first attempt. Sebwite (talk) 00:09, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
I didn't say you were. Not really sure what you're responding to here. Townlake (talk) 05:49, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Television Without Pity Revert

Hi, Instead of just reverting my edit that added content about Miss Ali, how about editing it to changes you would like? Or, make a note about suggested changes in the article's Talk page. Just doing a blanket revert suggests that my edits were done in bad faith, which obviously they were not. I will re-insert the section incorporating your suggestions, or what I can make of your suggestions from your rv comments. If you still disagree with the content, please take it to to the Television Without Pity Talk Page. Thanks. --Crunch (talk) 21:20, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Number of admins

Hi Townlake, I see from your comments at RFA that you weren't impressed at the stats I compiled on our declining number of admins, Did you spot a flaw in my stats or are you in the Uber inclusionist camp of wanting to see the number of active admins fall to the point where WP:Pure wiki deletion is implemented by default? ϢereSpielChequers 09:04, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

I read up to "Uber inclusionist" and stopped. Your position is extreme, I disagree with it, and on our respective merry ways we go. Townlake (talk) 14:46, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

my rfa closure

what was wrong with it? Inka 888 02:02, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

was it because i forgot to move the info from the rfa to the closed page. Inka 888 02:04, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

You blanked the page. The text gets kept in the archive. Townlake (talk) 02:09, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Oh sorry, long day. Inka 888 02:15, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks

Dear Townlake, this might seem funny but I really wanted to thank you. The reasons are because I've followed some of your commentaries across forums and have found your statements amazingly insightful and quite brilliantly intuitive as well as logical. I don't know you well and am basing my views only on the comments I've seen; but through that I've come to respect you considerably. Your oppose vote in my RfA was something that made me respect you much more... actually not the oppose vote, but your reply to a user advising him that you would not campaign against me .... I'm here to thank you for that; and this is the longest message I've left anyone in my thanking spree, and perhaps one of the sincerest. Thanks Townlake, my deepest regards. Wifione ....... Leave a message 20:10, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Oh and also, your oppose vote on my Rfa too. That was quite funny, and also, the last thing administrators need to have: Good grammar skills. Minimac (talk) 20:13, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for the kind words. I figure we're all volunteers, and your time is as valuable as mine... thus my habit of keeping comments short, simple, and hopefully useful. I'm gratified to know some of my fellow volunteers take these comments in the constructive manner that I intend. Wifi, congratulations on passing RFA; Mini, best of luck next go-round. Townlake (talk) 04:57, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Net Positive

Hi. I saw your Q7 at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Eagles247 and was interested. I introduced the phrase (well I'm pretty certain I did!) to RFA a long time ago - certainly writing WP:NETPOS and far earlier User:Pedro/Net Positive. Why does it sound like fingers on a blackboard? I'm not challenging you on it - I can imagine it may be that iritating - I'm just interested in your thoughts. Pedro :  Chat  21:04, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

Fair question. The term has a very clear real world meaning, but a Wiki-discourse meaning that doesn't match it. I don't suspect you meant to introduce a shibboleth to the administrative lingo around here, but "net positive" has become an overused codeword that separates Wikipedia's admin-area culture from the reality this place is designed to reflect. Townlake (talk) 01:02, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
I see - that's a good point. It's properly analagous to the horrid practice of blue linking to an essay because it sounds right without reading / understanding the essay in question. People linking LEGAL to a legal discussion or POINT when someone is just making a point - both a personal irritation of mine! Thanks for the explanation. Pedro :  Chat  07:41, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

I've never been entirely certain if the robot picks up on foreign language links if there's not one there already. If the titles are identical, it may very well...but I know it picks up on the set of them if you add one. So it reads the foreign-language links from the Italian and adds them in, for instance. I think of it as sort of seeding the way for the robot to finish; I got into the habit of doing it to articles whose titles are different in other languages. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:38, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

That makes perfect sense and is helpful to know. I'll try to pick up that habit going forward. Thank you. Townlake (talk) 17:41, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Sporting Kansas tags

FYI... I didn't move the tag because I disagreed with the fact that further info was required, I moved the tag because it was messing up the section headings. Thanks. --JonBroxton (talk) 03:31, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

I didn't see what it was messing up, but if you saw it needed fixing I certainly believe you. It's here nor there, the new setup works fine too. Townlake (talk) 07:03, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

AfDs

Hi. As you just participated in discussions on a closely related topic (also a current AfD re a Jewish list), which may raise some of the same issues, I'm simply mentioning that the following are currently ongoing: AfDs re lists of Jewish Nobel laureates, entertainers, inventors, actors, cartoonists, and heavy metal musicians. Best.--Epeefleche (talk) 07:29, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Apology

I would just like to apologise for any offence I may have caused with my remark at my RfA. I was trying to show that making typographical changes to talkpage comments without markup is quite common practice, and it was absolutely not my intention to insult you or question your editing.  -- Lear's Fool 02:45, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

You don't seem particularly good at simply acknowledging "I screwed up" and moving on. Your continued attempts to justify it don't speak well to your experience in collaboration with volunteers. Townlake (talk) 04:02, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Signature question

Hi Townlake. No, I'm not here to badger you about your RfA opinion on signatures, but I thought that since you clearly take one of the stricter views in the community I would ask for your opinion on mine - I am spending a lot of time working with new users. I personally agree that it is often misleading how to get to a talk page, so I have made the largest part of my signature a link directly there. I only started adding the TT later, after I realized that people may try to get to User:Worm and fail, so User:WormTT is now a redirect to my page. Since it was an addition, I pointed to my userpage with it. In your opinion do you think it's user friendly :) WormTT 18:03, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the message and the good faith question. Candidly, my answer to your question is "no." If I can't eyeball your sig and see exactly how to get to your talk page, it's unnecessarily complicated. By default, the signature function is perfectly functional and easily understood; any fancy signature that imperfects these features for the sake of being pretty strikes me as contrary to the inclusive goals of our project. Obviously the RFA community disagrees with me, so take my opinion for whatever value you attach to it. Townlake (talk) 20:21, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
I was just curious, especially since I am focused on helping new users. I've got a "leave me a message" on my talk page to help that, but will have a think if there's anything more I can do. Thanks for giving me your honest opinion, will have a think WormTT 20:47, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
Just an update. I've been thinking about this for a few days and I agree that new users might be confused by the signature issue. However, I find unique signatures awfully helpful too, allowing easier navigation in threads, so you can instantly see if two users are having a conversation etc. I've decided to go for a trade off, which I'm pretty happy with. Not asking for your approval or anything, I just thought you'd be interested to know that you are making a difference! WormTT · (talk) 11:51, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the update... and I know you didn't return to seek my approval, but I happen to like the change. Townlake (talk) 13:50, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
With all due respect, I feel it is at best idiotic and or blatantly stupid to oppose an RFA (Which should be based on the merits of the candidate and his or her experiance) on the basis of a signature making it hard to get to a person's talk page in lieu of actually GOING TO THE PERSON'S TALK PAGE and respectly requesting that they change it for useability. Failure to do that smack's of punitive laziness. My talk page easy enough to find?   «l| Promethean ™|l»  (talk) 15:53, 18 March 2011 (UTC) I edited Promethean's joke signature so it wouldn't malformat the page. Townlake (talk) 03:14, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
Your dissent has been noted and logged. Townlake (talk) 03:01, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Hello

Ciao! Sei un amministratore? Come si fa a cancellare alcune parti della cronologia in una pagina? Puoi farlo tu? O serve un Amministratore? Spero in una risposta!--Jepk (talk) 16:50, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Ciao e benvenuto, Jepk!

Perche?

Perche hai fatto questo? You undid my revision on the "Italian Language" page. This is perfectly all right considering we all have our own unique input, I was simply wondering for a reasoning behind this, thank you in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zambia95 (talkcontribs) 02:54, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Perhaps you're brand new and didn't realize you can't just add anything you want to to any Wikipedia article. Because your edit was completely unrelated to the section you added it to, and had no source to back up your claim about it, the article is better without that sentence. And I couldn't just move the sentence somewhere else, as you didn't include a reliable source to back up your assertion about the sentence being an Italian classic. If you can somehow find a reliable source backing up your claim that this naughty little phrase is essential to a reader's understanding of the Italian language, then please prove me wrong, and go right ahead and put it back in. In bocca al lupo. Townlake (talk) 03:21, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank you, you are correct I am brand new. I was not aware of this "source" business. thank you for your words of encouragement, I will try my best. Arrivederci. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zambia95 (talkcontribs) 20:31, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Good faith

I did notice this comment. I am concerned because you stated some clearly negative prejudice against me. I am not comfortable letting this stand without mitigation. If we can talk, and clear these concerns, that would be great. I have insight regarding this matter, and I think a statement of your equivalent, requires a balancing sentiment. I'm not seeking to have a holiday named in my honor, but I will not observe an offensive, against my good character and not initiate reservations. And I do reserve every manner of recourse which may exist. I'd like to see your response, before other considerations. Regards. My76Strat (talk) 23:25, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

Noted. Townlake (talk) 04:48, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
I did take this matter further based on the lack of good faith in your answer. It is said that the following template is due for your consideration: Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. My76Strat (talk) 02:53, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Sir, the matter at ANI is resolved. I hope we can work together in the future. And if ever you would like to talk, I would love to clear some misunderstandings. Thanks for retracting the statement. My76Strat (talk) 12:52, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

RfA

Townlake, I don't agree with you much on many things but I certainly agree with you on the autopromotion 100%. Perhaps I see a start here where we can collaborate rather than work against each other. --Kudpung (talk) 16:38, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

I appreciate your kind words, though I'm steering well clear of the IRC-style campaign Jimbo's started to "reform" / dismantle RFA. Where else do you see us potentially collaborating? (I'll be off wiki the next few days, so no offense intended if you reply to this and I don't answer right back.) Townlake (talk) 20:40, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
