Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews
Hello Titodutta. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.
The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.
If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)
If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.
Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.
I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

WMIN Infrastructure Scholarship endorsements
I have requested Wikimedia India for a very small grant to buy a scanner and a book. Please see my application here.
Endorsements
If you think I deserve this grant, please give me some endorsements. You don't need to edit that Wikimedia India page (moreover they have disabled sign up now)
All they need is some evidence that I am at least a newbie/beginner editor here on En WP. --Tito☸Dutta 11:48, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
Please endorse below. I'll link this thread directly there.
- Add you comments with signature here.
- Recommend strongly. This will add, amongst other things, Swami Vivekanand's works to WikiSource. Recommend that the scanner be made community-owned & returnable after completion of suggested loan period of two years. Also recommend that additional funds for warranty/extended warranty/AMC be made available as scanning in hot, dusty conditions as India is hard on equipment. AshLin (talk) 13:37, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
- I also recommend him! He's very active, especially with India-related articles. WhisperToMe (talk) 15:04, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
- Heartily endorse. Given Tito's past record of improving, and "pushing" others to improve, wikipedia's coverage of India (and especially {{Swami Vivekananda}}), I am confident that the resources will be used for betterment of wikipedia and sister-projects. Also second Ashlin's proposal to add provision in the grant for scanner maintenance. Abecedare (talk) 15:49, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
- Very strongly recommend. Tito is one of the most prolific and versatile editors, especially related to Wikiproject India. I have no doubts that he will be using the gadget(s) for proper purpose. Also, second AshLin's comment on additional funds for warranty/extended warranty/AMC. --Dwaipayan (talk) 17:32, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
- I endorse, if it helps Tito contribute to Wikipedia, Bgwhite (talk) 21:22, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

- Endorse. TitoDutta is a hard working and dedicated Wikipedian who will make good use of the scanner. Original documents from India are seriously underserved on Wikipedia so Tito's suggested use to our coverage of Vivekananda is already a huge plus. AshLin's suggestion of maintenance funds is also an excellent one and has my support. --regentspark (comment) 01:34, 27 November 2014 (UTC)
- Strong recommend. Way to go... -- naveenpf (talk) 02:46, 27 November 2014 (UTC)
- Recommend. He is an active contributor. --AmritasyaPutraT 05:37, 27 November 2014 (UTC)
- Strongly recommend. He is a very experienced contributor. — Ark25 (talk) 16:54, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
- support for the scanner grant with additional funds for warranty. --Mrutyunjaya Kar (talk) 13:01, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Indian English Newspaper Search
I am unable to view the sixth page containing search results. There's no option to view the 6th page at the end of search results. Even if I force the tool to view the search results (example), it shows none of them. I'm using this tool as an alternative to Google Search. Thanks.--Skr15081997 (talk) 14:04, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
- That seems to be a limitation. You may add word like "Deepak Tijori BirthYear" "Deepak Tijori Award" etc. --Tito☸Dutta 07:04, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- No problem then, thanks for your suggestion.--Skr15081997 (talk) 12:37, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Tag & Assess 2014
Hi, Just a gentle reminder that you signed up for the drive but your assessments are yet to begin. If the Tag & Assess script doesn't work, let us all assess manually. Even 5 assessments each day by each editor will help us reduce the backlog quite fast. AshLin (talk) 07:59, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

Let's begin our India related plans and programming discussion :-) AbhiSuryawanshi (talk)
- Thank you Dr. Suryavanshi for your message, but the problem is, we have been talking on it for last 3 days over phone etc. Still things are not getting clear. We need a 2-days' small-group workshop or so to discuss these things. Can we do it during Swatanra? Else, we need to think something else. But we need full 2-days. --Tito☸Dutta 11:28, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
- I will reach Trivandrum on 16th December evening. Let us plan brainstorming session on 17th,18th,19th and 20th December during Swatantra. AbhiSuryawanshi (talk) 11:39, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
