Hi. Sorry, I didn't understand your comment as it has no specifics? Which of the points in my edits exactly need consensus? Current version has a lot of mistakes, hence I had them fixed. In case additional sources are required, please request them instead of removing information. Korwinski (talk) 22:56, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
- UPD. Upon reviewing prior discussions on the article I can see that there wasn't any discussion about this part of the article. So currently there was a silent consensus that had gone away the moment I made my edits as per Wikipedia:Silence and consensus. As a sign of good will I had started a discussion on talk page there and won't make new edits on the article for the next few days. But unless any valid points will be stated so we can come up with a new wording, I'm afraid I will have to undo your revert.
- Note that you had said:
Replacing one interpretation with another is not holding a NPOV
- I didn't do that:
- 1. Current version does not mention All-Russian nation ideology at all. And then in Soviet part it says:
modified version of the Russian which "allotted equal rights to the Kievan inheritance to the Three Slavic peoples
- But that isn't true as prior All-Russian nation approach did that as well, just claiming that there was one single Russian nation made up of sub-ethnic Malorossians, Velikorossians and Belorussians.
- 2. Current version is not neutral towards Ukrainian view and makes claims like "Ukraine was not defined as a state until 20th century" (Ukraine was one of the official and colloquial names of the Cossack Hetmanate) and "The Ukrainian view was formulated much later, between the 1840s and the end of the 1930s in Eastern Austria": a) it should've been Eastern Galicia as Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria wasn't part of Austria since 1867 and part of Austro-Hungary since 1919. Moreover in case you check the source (page 3) there's nothing about "Eastern Austria"; b) it's saying that regarding Modern era Ukrainian historiography, while I've added more descriptive overview and shifts in Ukrainian historiography since 13th century. And since we're describing Russian historiography starting from 1330s and not just the Modern era one, it's only fair to describe the shifts in Ukrainian historiography starting with Galicia-Volhynia-centric chronicles. Given that the current source in the article does that as well. See page 8:
The Galician-Volhynian dynasty devised its own ideological program vis-avis Kiev and the all-Rus’ inheritance based on the law of investiture, on patrimonial ties with the Kievan dynasty, and on the special relationship to Kiev of religious objects. This program is set forth in the Galician-Volhynian Chronicle, the third major component of the Hypatian Codex. Of particular significance is the special “Introduction” to the Hypatian Codex, which explicates the exclusive historical and dynastic rights of the Galician-Volhynian house to the Kievan succession
- Korwinski (talk) 15:53, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
- Reply: If there are reliable sources stating two different views/interpretations/etc, you do not remove a pervious version in preference to your version. This violates NPOV. If you can find references demonstrating that one view has been discredited/disproved by a consensus of reliable sources (not just a difference of opinion or disagreement), you can include this information (phrased neutrally, with due weight) with references. // Timothy :: talk 16:12, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
- 1. I'm right now literally using the source in the article and the only source for that paragraph?
- 2. It covers information only on formation of Vladimir-Suzdal and Galicia-Volhynia. There's no information in that article about Ukrainian historiography from 14th century and up until 1840s.
- 3. Its not NPOV:
- a) It uses trope about "Austrian Galicia" (also no mention of that in the source)
- b) It says "The Russian view sees [...] as the sole heir to the Kievan Rus' [...] because [...] Ukraine was not defined as a state until 20th century" (also no mention of that in the source)
- c) Its literally 73 words or 444 characters to explain Russian view and just 33 words or 196 characters to explain Ukrainian view. With short explanation of how Russian view had gradually developed over time and literally zero information about Ukrainian historiography development on the subject up until 1840s. Korwinski (talk) 17:21, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
- I don't know how to be clearer.
- I am not objecting to the information you are adding.
- I am objecting to the removal of the sourced information in the article.
- Both views can be incorporated according to NPOV and WEIGHT.
- Observe WP:BRD, until there is a consensus per 1RR. // Timothy :: talk 17:28, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
- I see. Ok. I will rewright and include dates when Ukrainian view monolineal and exclusivist was formulated. I don't see anything else I hadn't included there. With the exception for cases 3a and 3b (see above). They aren't NPOV and they are not supported by that source. Korwinski (talk) 17:52, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
- I don't know how to be clearer.
- Reply: If there are reliable sources stating two different views/interpretations/etc, you do not remove a pervious version in preference to your version. This violates NPOV. Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 10 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 11 October. It will be on all wikis from 12 October (calendar).
- Starting on Wednesday, a new set of Wikipedias will get "Add a link" (Swahili Wikipedia, Walloon Wikipedia, Waray Wikipedia, Wolof Wikipedia, Kalmyk Wikipedia, Xhosa Wikipedia, Mingrelian Wikipedia, Yiddish Wikipedia, Yoruba Wikipedia, Zhuang Wikipedia, Zeelandic Wikipedia, Min Nan Wikipedia, Zulu Wikipedia). This is part of the progressive deployment of this tool to more Wikipedias. The communities can configure how this feature works locally. [2]
- At some wikis, newcomers are suggested images from Commons to add to articles without any images. Starting on Tuesday, newcomers at these wikis will be able to add images to unillustrated article sections. The specific wikis are listed under "Images recommendations" at the Growth team deployment table. You can learn more about this feature. [3]
- In the mobile web skin (Minerva) the CSS ID

Reversion of edits to 'LGBT in the Ottoman Empire'
Hi, just wanted to clarify that if there's no page number for a book/journal article to back up a claim, said claim is unreliable and possibly even made up, unless a page number can be provided. Please find the page number from the sources that prove the preceding claims. If not, the claims would have to be removed as it's inadequately sourced. Thanks. Omnibenevolence (talk) 20:18, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Omnibenevolence: That is not the case. Yes, sourcing should be improved, but a missing page number is not cause to remove an unexceptional claim. To quote from WP:CHALLENGE,
Consider adding a citation needed tag as an interim step. ... If you think the material is verifiable, you are encouraged to provide an inline citation yourself before considering whether to remove or tag it.
- And to quote from WP:FIXTHEPROBLEM,
Wikipedia is a work in progress and perfection is not required.

- The Structured Content team, as part of its project of improving UploadWizard on Commons, made some UX improvements to the upload step of choosing own vs not own work (T347590), as well as to the licensing step for own work (T347756).
- The Design Systems team has released version 1.0.0 of Codex, the new design system for Wikimedia. See the full announcement about the release of Codex 1.0.0.
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 31 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 1 November. It will be on all wikis from 2 November (calendar).
- Listings on category pages are sorted on each wiki for that language using a library. For a brief period on 2 November, changes to categories will not be sorted correctly for many languages. This is because the developers are upgrading to a new version of the library. They will then use a script to fix the existing categories. This will take a few hours or a few days depending on how big the wiki is. You can read more. [6][7]
- Starting November 1, the impact module (Special:Impact) will be upgraded by the Growth team. The new impact module shows newcomers more data regarding their impact on the wiki. It was tested by a few wikis during the last few months. [8]
Future changes
- There is a proposed plan for re-enabling the Graph Extension. You can help by reviewing this proposal and sharing what you think about it.
- The WMF is working on making it possible for administrators to edit MediaWiki configuration directly. This is similar to previous work on Special:EditGrowthConfig. A technical RfC is running until November 08, where you can provide feedback.
