Thanks

Hey, seeing as how you've helped me and watched over my edits in a way, I wanted to thank you before I leave this site. I did my best to contribute what I know but apparently some admin finds that unacceptable. You can see my talk page for that ordeal; I'm sure I'll get in some sort of trouble for my reply. That doesn't really matter though because I'm done trying to edit this site and won't be returning. I don't know how much out of your way you went to correct my mistakes but I always appreciated it because I know it was with good-hearted intent. So anyway, thanks again and keep doing what you're doing. I'm sure someone else will appreciate the "mentoring" as well, even if it was unintentional. Take it easy. OParalyzerx (talk) 07:50, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

I had a similar confrontation in the early days of being on Wikipedia. My username was originally Movieworld referring to Warner Bros. Movie World where I began my editing. Because I changed my username and showed that I had edited on other pages as well, the issue was resolved. It's sad to hear you are leaving but I thank you for your kind words. Chance Rides and Chance Morgan

Can you take a look at the Chance Rides and Chance Morgan pages and offer a suggestion? I would prefer to keep the pages separate. Thanks JlACEer (talk) 16:44, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

I guess it is a good idea to keep the two pages separate. My only suggestion would be to incorporate some images of their rides in the articles. This category might be a good starting point. Themeparkgc  Talk  03:58, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Kings Island attractions

Themeparkgc, can you take a look at the Kings Island page under the attractions section please. I want your opinion if an additionally column should of been added to the rides list. I think that it doesnt benefit the article and it just crowds it and makes it inconsistant. The manufacturer and model can be found on the rides actually page. There has been discussion on the talk page. --Astros4477 (talk) 01:06, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

I think the manufacturer column is good but I think the tables look a bit too cluttered. I would definitely be against putting more columns on there in this format. If all that information must be used in a table, maybe they could be structured like articles do for television episodes (see {{Episode list}}). Themeparkgc  Talk  07:06, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Flight of Fear merge

I am going to merge Flight of Fear (Kings Island) and Flight of Fear (Kings Dominion) into Flight of Fear. I was going to move the Kings Dominion one to Flight of Fear then send a redirect from the Kings Island one and just update Flight of Fear to include information for both coasters. When i tried to do that it said i need to request a move to an administrator. It directed me to a page but Im a little confused on how to do it exactly. Can you link a page where i can request an administrator to move it please? Im still becoming familiar with how to do everything. --Astros4477 (talk) 03:29, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

WP:RMT is where you need to go. Add {{subst:RMassist|Flight of Fear (Kings Dominion)|Flight of Fear|reason for move}} to the "Technical requests" section with a clear reason replacing "reason for move". Themeparkgc  Talk  21:29, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Logos

Just out of curiosity, where do you find and upload your logos? I know how but I can never find logos or even images that aren't copy righted. You always find logos for parks so I was just wondering where you find the most up to date logos and know that there legal to be on Wikipedia. Thanks. --Astros4477 (talk) 03:07, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Have a read of Wikipedia:Logos — that explains most of it. As for finding the logos, I generally look on the park's official website and see if I can get a background-free logo. If I can't, I use Google Images to find a version identical to the one used on the website without a background. I then go to this upload form which has most of the required fields already filled in. I select the file from my computer, complete the "Non-free use rationale logo" in the textarea, select Logo from the dropdown and hit submit. Basically provided you have the appropriate non-free use rationale and the license is specified as a logo (from the dropdown), the image is fine to use on Wikipedia. You Deleted DreamWorks Experience

Hi ,

I have read your list of guidelines of why you have deleted the page I created. DreamWorks Experience wasn't just a cut and paste page, I was uploading photo's onto the page that were photographic evidence that Kid's World was no longer in operation.

I believe that since I had photographic evidence that my page should not of been deleted and I as I spent lengthy time and effort getting sources for the page, which you repeatedly denied saying i had no sources when if fact I did, you constantly removed them. File:DreamWorks_Experience_1.JPG this was one of 11 photos I have to prove that the area is being refurbished.

Thankyou For Reading --Wikipedianfan (talk) 09:35, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

The content of Kid's World was cut and relocated to DreamWorks Experience where it was pasted. That makes it a cut and paste move. Also please be aware of copyright violations when uploading images. I don't deny that the DreamWorks Experience is replacing Kid's World. What I am saying is some of Kid's World is still open despite the vast majority being closed. Thanks

I just stumbled upon the "2012 in Amusement Parks" page and fell in love.

I can't thank you enough for setting up this page. I've been trying to maintain my own running list of new attractions for 2012 and your page helped fill in several blanks.

I've written about most of the new rides on the 2012 page and I am in the process of writing about the rest in the coming months for my Funland theme park blog on the Los Angeles Times website (http://www.latimes.com/travel/deals/themeparks/).

I wanted to thank you for including several of my stories in the source list. Please let me know if I can help with the page in any way in the future.

I followed your link to the original French page and found a few more new attractions I wasn't aware of (Triumph Kingdom in China, for example). I was really excited to see the 2013 page taking shape in French and look forward to your English version in the future.

Thanks again, Brady MacDonald brady (dot) macdonald (at) latimes (dot) com — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bradymacdonald (talkcontribs) 22:00, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments. I was actually originally inspired by the French page. A 2013 page will be on the way if I can find enough verifiable content for it. By the way, great blog at the LA Times. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:10, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Leviathan IS A GIGA

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

So if GIGA is a Intamin term and B&M can't use it, then why did the early construction plans and material tags say "Giga Coaster" on them...--Dom497 (talk) 20:35, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Just to comment on what Dom497 said, the packaging when the coaster was being built had labels that said it was a giga coaster. I think it confuses people when they see hyper because the definition of a hyper is a full circuit between 200-299. --Astros4477 (talk) 20:43, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)Therein lies the problem ... the coaster community at large has dubbed it that because manufacturers started using it. Arrow and/or Cedar Point coined "hyper coaster" for Magnum XL-200, while Intamin and/or Cedar Point coined "giga" for Millennium Force and "strata" for Top Thrill Dragster. However, running counter to that are (a) B&M's own list of products doesn't mention a giga-coaster and (b) RCDB, arguably Wikipedia's best reliable source for coaster info, doesn't call it a giga-coaster. So if we, as coaster fans, call it a giga-coaster, that's our original thought. If/when B&M physically markets something they call a giga-coaster, as in mentions it in their product literature/website, then it can change (and I'd be wondering if Intamin will give 'em a buzz about that). --McDoobAU93 21:44, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
(Didn't know I had so many talk page stalkers) Anyway, I agree with McDoobAU93 and I am sure JlACEer (talk · contribs) (who originally reverted this change) would agree also. B&M have not marketed the ride as a giga - to them it is still a Hyper Coaster. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:17, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
I wouldn't say the "coaster community at large" it seems to be mostly internet users (at least to me). None of my coaster friends think of this as a giga, and none of the industry trade publications are using that term. I don't think it's a matter of not being able to use the word (I haven't found any registered trademarks for it) I think it's more of a preference. Morgan and B&M didn't/don't want to use terms that tout another manufacturer's product. I think the early use of the word giga in early construction plans was just conjecture from enthusiasts. I looked at all the press releases from the park and I don't see any mention of the word "giga." Do we have any photograph evidence of this packaging that says giga?
A hyper is any coaster over 200 feet. No one ever defined it as precisely between 200-299. It was actually made up by a reporter for ACE News back in 1989 and Kinzel liked it, and the park started using it. I don't think Arrow ever marketed any of those rides as hypers (I'll have to dig up the early Morgan ride catalogs). Even the early B&M catalogs say mega coaster, not hyper, yet eventually it caught on. As I mentioned when I changed the B&M page several weeks ago, we should attempt to consistently use definitions and terms that the manufacturers are using and avoid using "made-up" definitions if we want these pages to maintain an air of professionalism. As McDoob says, if other manufacturers start marketing coasters with term giga, then we can change it, but at the present time, no one other than Intamin uses it.JlACEer (talk) 00:29, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
I agree with keeping it listed as a Hyper coaster but I did find a picture, http://parkthoughts.com/2011/08/09/canadas-wonderland-2012-mystery-construction/. It is the 3rd picture on the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Astros4477 (talkcontribs) 01:01, 17 February 2012‎
Thanks — that's interesting! But to get back to Dom497's original question, the steel comes from Clermont Steel Fabricators in Ohio not from B&M. I'm sure the guys in Ohio are familiar with the term giga so that's what they decided to use when they tagged the steel components.JlACEer (talk) 12:24, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
When I saw that picture, it didn't look like the labels I've normally seen on B&M pieces, either. There was one in plain view on Goliath on the transfer track for years, for example; better yet, I found one for SheiKra here for comparison. --McDoobAU93 15:48, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
To elaborate a little more on what I said earlier. Hyper originally meant a coaster over 200 feet, but the manufacturers think of it more as a style of coaster. If you go to the Chance Rides Hypercoaster page you will see that they market a 150-foot, 200-foot and 300-foot hypercoaster (they make it one word). LaRonde's Goliath is less than 200 feet but it is pictured on B&M's hyper coaster page. If you think of this as more of a style of coaster rather than trying to have terms for every 100 feet (Hyper, Giga, Strata, whatevera), then it makes sense. Besides, giga is a terrible term for a coaster. In the metric system it means a billion, not 300. I'd like to know which marketing "genius" thought this was an appropriate term for a 300-foot coaster.JlACEer (talk) 16:05, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
I remember seeing a picture of a small plate on the side of a (presumably) Millennium Force car that clearly said "Intamin AG Giga Coaster" or something like it, so it looks like the marketeers in Wollerau are to blame. --McDoobAU93 16:14, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/andrewb94/5368673264/JlACEer (talk) 19:05, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Yes, but I pretty sure that the term "Giga" can be used in the article now\again. Agree?--Dom497 (talk) 21:55, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
That shows that Canada's Wonderland markets it as a giga coaster but not that the official Bolliger & Mabillard model of roller coaster is a giga coaster. I would say leave it as is for now. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:00, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

I'm on vacation right now, so as soon as I get home I will e-mail B&M (I know it sounds a but "extreme").--Dom497 (talk) 22:06, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

One point to consider unless they publish it on their website or similar, it will be considered as original research. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:23, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
True....--Dom497 (talk) 22:35, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
Actually what it shows is that an "Education Representative" (Krystin Diceman) at Canada's Wonderland is using that term. Possibly some intern, who got her information off the internet. I've yet to see anything from the marketing department that uses "giga." I'm really puzzled as to why you are so obsessed with using this term. It will be a really big, fantastic coaster, it doesn't need extra hyperbole. And no, sending an e-mail is not too extreme. I'm sure we are all curious as to what they have to say. Next time I see Walter Bolliger at a trade show, I intend to ask him about the whole giga thing.JlACEer (talk) 14:42, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
The point about anyone contacting B&M, either via mail or directly, is that it can't be used as a source for the edits here. Will it be good to hear it from them? Of course, but unfortunately it still wouldn't be good enough. The only thing that would, in my opinion, necessitate a change is when Bolliger & Mabillard changes its marketing and calls such rides "giga coasters". That would most likely necessitate RCDB changing its description, which would then be the preferred reliable source for such an edit here. I agree that "giga" and such is pure marketeering and not terribly encyclopedic; frankly "hyper" isn't much better, but because so many market models under that name, it's made its way into the project. --McDoobAU93 18:40, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Free Flow boat rides

I see you found my user page on Free Flow boat rides. I was going to do a little more work on it then ask you take a look, but your contributions are appreciated. I'm trying to remember where some of the Mack round boat rides are. I know I encountered several in Europe, but all I can think of are the ones in Germany. (I was there last year so Germany is fresh on my mind). If you know of any others outside of Germany let me know or add them to the page.

I wasn't even sure if such a page was even necessary. Some of these rides really didn't fit into the other pages such Old Mills and River Caves. As a matter of fact, river caves is not a term that I am familiar with — I think it might be chiefly British as Blackpool probably had a ride called a river cave years ago.

I also might have trouble sourcing this material. The only thing I have is the Mack ride catalog, and the Hopkins website. I was also wondering if I should try to include the tow boat rides that use an underwater cable. If I do that then I would have to change the name of the page. Let me know what you thinkJlACEer (talk) 15:37, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

I agree with your reasoning for creating such a page. The two rides I added (Looney Tunes River Ride and Bermuda Triangle) are rides that you couldn't classify as log flumes or as river rapids. I am sure there are other articles/rides in the same situation.
As an alternative, maybe you could expand the existing water ride article which is currently not much more than a few sentences. That way you could speak about free flow boat rides, tow boat rides, water coasters, interactive boat rides and any other types of water rides that don't already have articles. I'd be happy to assist with this where I can if you wanted to proceed with this.
As for Mack round boat rides according to Parkz Bubbleworks at Chessington World of Adventures is one. Also, Dora’s World Voyage at Pleasure Beach Blackpool appears to be one. Europa Park has one but I am not sure of its name. Hope this helps. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:34, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

Can you please take a look at the Fabbri Group updates and make sure everything is suitable with the logo I uploaded? I'm not exactly sure what needs to be done to make sure the logo doesn't get deleted.JlACEer (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 17:33, 23 February 2012 (UTC).

Chance Morgan Coasters Category Page

What can I do to fix this page? Category:Roller coasters manufactured by Chance Morgan. Most of these rides were built by Chance Rides before the Morgan acquisition. I've added all but one of these coasters to the Chance Rides page in a table. I don't really understand the purpose of these Category pages when there are so few rides, and they can easily be listed in a table under the main page. Is this page even necessary anymore? Should I request it be deleted?JlACEer (talk) 13:51, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

If the category is empty it could be deleted. To update the listings of these coasters, the manufacturer in their infobox needs to be changed. Category:Roller coasters manufactured by Chance Rides would also need to be created. Categories in general provide a form of organisation separate to the articles. You will notice in the case of roller coasters, every major manufacturer has a similar category. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:41, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited Frisbee (ride), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mondial (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Sandbox Problems

I have been working on an article in my sandbox but I'm not quite sure how to move it to become an actual article. I'm a little confused on what I have to do. If you could send a link that tells me how to do it, that would be great. Thanks for all the help, I'm still learning things and how to do it all on Wikipedia. --Astros4477 (talk) 21:09, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

You should be able to move it just as you would move any other article. You would make the target "Luminosity: Ignite the Night!" and it would be done. However, the history of your sandbox is more than just for Luminosity, I would recommend you copy the content of your sandbox into Luminosity: Ignite the Night! and click save. Millennium Force layout

I came across this picture that I see you uploaded. I wanna upload this layout picture of Millennium Force, I am unsure where and how to upload it. I tried uploading it to Commons but it was deleted. Can you link a page to where I can upload it with the proper license please? Thanks, --Astros4477 (talk) 21:00, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

This would be the page you are looking for. Commons is only for free media and this is non-free media hence it has to be uploaded directly on Wikipedia with an appropriate rationale. Themeparkgc  Talk  06:41, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
Thank you, what would the proper license be? I started it and selected the three dimensional tag but then it asked the author and who created it and when. Did you have that similar situation with the Leviathan image?--Astros4477 (talk) 19:09, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
With the Leviathan image, Dom497 (talk · contribs) uploaded the original version. As the image was created and released by Canada's Wonderland it was classified as a non-free promotional image.
This image seems to trace back to Keith McVeen in 2006. I feel it would be hard to claim it is promotional unless you could prove he worked for the park to do the layout image. Even then, there is a possibility that a free equivalent could be created since the ride has been open and operating for a while now. Maybe it is best not to upload it unless explicit permission is given. Themeparkgc  Talk  00:25, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

Shoot The Chute

Shoot-the-Chutes page: How do I petition a name change? Although multiple chutes do occur, typically the ride only involves one chute. Arrow Development, who brought back the modern-day version, and Hopkins, who has more of this type of ride than anyone else, both refer to these rides as Shoot The Chute (not plural, and no hyphens). The text in the actual wiki article also uses "Shoot-the-Chute" (not plural). I would recommend that the name of the page be changed to Shoot The Chute.JlACEer (talk) 15:47, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

I would support the move to Shoot the Chute. Also it appears Astros4477 (talk · contribs) supports it also. You have two options to get the page moved. The first is to be bold and move the page yourself by following the instructions here. The second option is to request the move by following the instructions here. I'd recommend going with the first option as requesting the move would take a minimum of 7 days to process and the page may not be moved in the end. Themeparkgc  Talk  01:06, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

Ride Sims

Hello again! I just wanted to ask you if I were to create a article about this website: www.ridesims.com...would it qualify to be deleted? I'm asking you this because I'm not really familiar with what a article needs to qualify to be deleted.--Dom497 (talk) 16:46, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Notability (web) probably explains it best. If you cannot produce an article that meets the guidelines there it will most likely be deleted. Also, just a quick check of Google News provides no results for this website so it would probably be hard to find any reliable sources for it. Themeparkgc  Talk  01:00, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
I dont think its worth the risk of creating the article and then it getting deleted (all of the time put into it would then be pointless)....so I think I'll just re-start the "project" I was doing before I sem-retired (I have since made a full return) regarding Canada's Wonderland (try to get each/most of the rides at the park a article) and forget about the Ride Sims article after reading what you posted.--Dom497 (talk) 02:14, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, that's probably the best idea. Themeparkgc  Talk  02:15, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

I was just surfing the internet and when I went to Mondial's official website and clicked on the WindSeeker details...I was just simply shocked on what I found. Infoboxes

What's the standard with inboxes and which parks should be in what order? For example in the case of WindSeeker, should the parks be listed in alphabetical order or in the order they opened? Many of the articles I've seen have been in the order they opened but I've been doing it alphabetical based soley on that's how WindSeeker is and that's a good article. I just don't want to continue changing the order of the parks if I'm doing it wrong.--Astros4477 (talk) 20:29, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

There is no standard really. I feel as long as there is some order, that is good. For roller coasters when previous locations of the ride are listed they should probably go in reverse-chronological order. In all other cases, I'd go with either chronological order or alphabetical.  Fixed there is a new parameter called {{{manufacturer-category}}} which can be used in situations like this. The new parameter contains the name which would appear in the category at the bottom of the page, whilst the existing parameter is used for display in the infobox. What steps did you take to remove the redlinks from the Cab Kaye article?

I look forward to your reply. The Transhumanist 18:03, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Through a Google search I found User:Rich Farmbrough's response to your question at WikiProject Perl:
Use the list maker to make a list of "Links on page (redlinks only)".
Save the list to a text file.
Replace the carriage returns in the text file with "|". Copy the content.
Create a normal rule that replaces \[\[(<paste the contents here>)\]\] with $1
Run it against the page in question.
Hope this helps. Themeparkgc  Talk  00:08, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Vandalism

I don't know if you've noticed but a few IP addresses have been changing the speeds of Intimidator and Intimidator 305, how can it be stopped? They have changed the speed from 75 to 80 in the Intimidator page and from 90 to 94 in the Intimidator 305 page every time. There's a few IP addresses that have been doing it so I don't know if there the same person.--Astros4477 (talk) 19:13, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

Since there are several IP addresses making these edits there would be no chance for administrator intervention against vandalism. Another option is to request the temporary semi-protection of the page(s) but again I don't think there is sufficient evidence for this to occur. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:13, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Wild West Falls Pre-ride video.

- I went there in late January of this year, and the CRT monitors that are peppered around the Ride Queue still show the Wild Wild West pre-ride video as of 2012. However you may be confused because I believe they MIGHT have not had it on for a long period BUT recently put it back on to help with the western themeing of the ride and also because Patrons on busy days probably asked why they had video screens still installed if they weren't being used. Consiquently the Pre-ride video IS currently used. Not sure however if it's only on the Busy days, as in the off season they indeed might not be using the monitors in order to keep their electricity bill slightly down. All I know is I danced to Smith's Music Video several times whilst in the ride Queue! The video also shows scenes from various other WB westerns too, but eventually comes around to the Wild Wild West trailer, and Smith's classy song. Colliric (talk) 18:40, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

New Template Idea

Hello again! Before I add this template to Wikipedia, I wanted to run the idea through you first. So here's the idea:

For all the ride model articles, like UFO, why don't we add a infobox that helps sum up the info in the article. Some of the parameters can be: status (in development, active, discontinued), manufacture, max speed, type of restraints etc....

I know it sounds the same as the current attraction infobox template but we cant merge this idea together because changes to the "status" parameter would be needed. It would almost be like a mini infobox with only details about the model, not certain rides that are from the model.

What do you think?--Dom497 (talk) 19:37, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

In regards to the model infobox, I think that would be helpful. I've always felt every article should have an infobox.--Astros4477 (talk) 22:53, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
This template could possibly be modified. It was originally the "simplified" roller coaster infobox but since it was only used on model pages, I recently renamed it. Maybe a thorough discussion on that page should occur. Themeparkgc  Talk  00:04, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
I was thinking more of a infobox that could be used for both roller coasters and flat rides. Some parameters could say beside them something like: "Only to be used for roller coaster models" or "Only to be used for flat ride models".--Dom497 (talk) 00:29, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
I'm going to begin adding the template to Wikipedia now. The only reason why I am doing this is because the roller coaster model template should stay on the articles it is on until the template I am adding replaces it. We can always nominate the roller coaster model template for deletion later.--Dom497 (talk) 19:50, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
I see you've made the template here. I might make a few slight changes to it when I get a chance. Themeparkgc  Talk  03:32, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

Wing Coaster

Also, do you think the Wing Coaster article would stand a good chance of becoming a GA? I expanded the article quite a bit so I was thinking it might be worth to nominate it soon.--Dom497 (talk) 22:41, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

I was actually thinking the same thing about the Wing Coaster article, I think it could go straight to GAN because it's relatively short.--Astros4477 (talk) 22:53, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
Some of the references could do with some work. For example, a couple are from the TPR forum and will need to go. Some more news articles wouldn't go astray either. Themeparkgc  Talk  00:04, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
May I ask why TPR will need to go? Its the only area on the internet that shows a picture of the queue spliting...I've looked on Google Images and Flickr for all 4 coasters and nothing came up.--Dom497 (talk) 00:39, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
Main reason behind TPR having to go is it is a forum. This would most likely fail at being a reliable source. Themeparkgc  Talk  03:33, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
I'll try looking for another pic but I highly doubt there will be on the internet. The TPR reference on youtube should stay though because it has Walter Bolliger in it.--Dom497 (talk) 18:50, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
And also, how is an image stating a fact not reliable? I'm not trying to start an argument, I just trying to figure out why an image from TPR is considered unreliable... after all the fact on the website is supported by the image which acts like a reference.--Dom497 (talk) 00:15, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
I think the video of Walter Bolliger can stay. I never said it should be removed. I said only the TPR forum references should be removed. As for an image itself being a reliable source, yes it does show something that can't be denied but I am not sure how someone at a GA review would treat it. WP:OI seems relevant but I am not sure where I stand on it. If you wish, you could leave it there and wait and see what the reviewer of the article says. Themeparkgc  Talk  06:19, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Wing Coaster roller coasters

I think Category:Wing Coaster roller coasters should be moved to Wing roller coasters. What do you think? Wing Coaster roller coasters doesn't make sense.--Astros4477 (talk) 01:55, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

You have to keep in mind that "Wing Coaster" is the model name. Therefore, "Wing Coaster roller coasters" does make sense sense.--Dom497 (talk) 17:49, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
Dom is right. According to category guidelines they should be named after the main article. Another guideline is that of consistency, hence why Category:Wing Coasters is not an option. Themeparkgc  Talk  07:48, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Re. Image Watermarks

While I understand you received the permission of the copyright holder of the images to use them on the Cars Land page and related pages, The watermark is a form of advertising for the individual who took the images. If you could, can you ask the photographer for the permission to use the images without the watermark? Also, for the info box photo for Carsland, I would suggest using a long shot of rte 66 and the Cadillac Range. LeicaMan (talk) 15:59, 22 June 2012 (UTC) PS: If you can't get permission to use the photographer's images without the watermark, they will have to be removed. If this is the case, I know someone who has images and would be will be willing to provide them without watermarks.

When getting permission for these images I went through Dom497 (talk · contribs) who had previous dealings with the guys at Westcoaster. I have left him a message to come here. Hopefully non-watermarked versions can be obtained. If you know someone that is willing to provide some images, I don't think anyone would stop you from replacing the Westcoaster images with those ones. Even if the images aren't instantly used, they could become handy on Commons in the future. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:51, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
I don't think we are going to get un-watermarked pictures. I'll ask Jim Disney and see what I can do...but I have high doubts. I'll post a message here with his response when I get one.--Dom497 (talk) 00:57, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
Well, I think Jim is a bit mad now. He said that advertising issue is ridiculous and he's not going to bother getting no watermarked pictures. He also said to go take your own pictures if you want to get non watermarked photos. The only good thing within the reply was that he may look into getting me the non watermarked photos if he feels like it tomorrow. Nothing more to say.--Dom497 (talk) 16:01, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
Yeah I thought that would be the case. I completely understand though. LeicaMan, is there any chance your friend could upload their images? Themeparkgc  Talk  22:18, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

I've recently run into a problem, I updated the template for Mission: Space but all that's coming up when I hit preview is what's below, what am I doing wrong? This happened on Spaceship Earth too. Mission: Space doesn't even show up as the name when I preview it here (your talk page). Did I mess up or is there a problem with the template?

Bolliger & Mabillard GAN sub-topic?

Hi, I know you don't do much work on GAN's (compared to me :-P) but I'm almost ready to nominate the B&M article for GAN, but I can't figure out what sub-topic to put the nomination under. I was thinking it could go under the engineering and technology sub-topic but that's only a part of what B&M actually is....or is it???? The sub-topics can be found on the GAN nomination page. Sorry if this sounds like a silly/stupid question.--Dom497 (talk) 00:21, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

I'm not too sure myself. "Engineering technology" could be good but maybe it should go under "Miscellaneous". It's really up to you. Even if you don't place it in the right category to begin with, I'm sure the reviewer might have some ideas. Themeparkgc  Talk  03:14, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

Disney Resort Infoboxes

Hey, I'm interested in changing the following infoboxes to bring them up to date,

Template:Disney deluxe infobox
Template:Disney moderate infobox
Template:Disney value infobox
Template:Disney DVC infobox

They seem very outdated. I'm not sure what exactly needs to be done but I'd love to help anyway possible.--Astros4477 (talk) 02:58, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

I never knew all these templates existed. I am right in saying the only different is the colour of the title? If that is the case, I'm sure these templates could be brought up to date in a merged infobox making use of {{Infobox}}. I should have something up in a sandbox within 24 hours. Themeparkgc  Talk  10:32, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
Ya the color but also the bullet points in the infobox. I've never seen bullet points in an infobox before. It looks like they haven't been updated since 2007, when they were created. I would like to see them merged too, then somewhere in the infobox it can state whether it's a deluxe, moderate, value, or DVC resort.--Astros4477 (talk) 19:50, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
Got some test cases up here. Let me know what you think. When it comes to implementing it, since there are very minimal changes required to switch the infobox over, I can do it using WP:AWB which would make it semi-automatic and very quick. Themeparkgc  Talk  04:59, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
Could we get the resort area and the level of the resort set up as a parameter? It looks like the resort area and the level are captions of the logo. What do you think? Also if it's not too much work, could the address parameter be moved up to the top? It kinda seems out of place in the middle.--Astros4477 (talk) 05:23, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
Yep. I can change where the resort area and level are located (change should be live soon). As for the address parameter, since Wikipedia is not a directory, I'd be in favour of removing the address, phone and fax parameters. These parameters used to be in the amusement park and water park infoboxes but they have since been removed for this exact reason. What do you think? Themeparkgc  Talk  06:51, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
Yes I agree. I was looking at the Caribbean Beach website and it looks like for the level of the resort they just call it the Resort type so that should probly be changed.--Astros4477 (talk) 18:47, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay. I made those changes. Is the template now good to go? Themeparkgc  Talk  22:43, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

WingRide

Sorry for another question but, shouldn't there be an article for Intamin's WingRide? I saw the discussion on the Wing Coaster about what the article name should be and the article only reflects B&M currently. Also, Intamin's official website says that Furius Baco is not an Accelerated Coaster but rather a WingRide. In the event that an article about the WingRider should be created, the article will be in my sandbox (currently in development).

http://www.intaminworldwide.com/amusement/RollerCoasters/WingRide+Coaster/tabid/138/ProductNumber/WingRide+Coaster/language/de-DE/Default.aspx

--Dom497 (talk) 14:57, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Firstly, RCDB lists it as an Accelerator Coaster. Secondly, since Furius Baco is the only installation of a WingRide, I think that article should be expanded before a new article is created basically detailing the same sort of information. At the moment it makes no mention of it being a WingRide coaster, let alone the only one. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:10, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Son of Beast

I felt compelled to undo your recent change to the status of Son of Beast. SBNO to me and according to its article page, indicates that the ride is still standing and exists, but for whatever reason it hasn't been reopened, removed or demolished yet. In this case, it's "waiting demolition", so it seems to fit that definition better. Defunct may technically fit too, because it can also mean "no longer functioning" in addition to "no longer exists". However, since we have a separate status for SBNO, I don't see a reason to give that same definition to defunct unless we change the definition of SBNO. Do you agree? — GoneIn60 (talk) 00:51, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, I guess so. Although, if you think about a case though where a park closes a ride and has announced its removal. Should we leave it as SBNO until such a time that demolition has definitely started? Obviously there is a bit of grey area in this case so I am really fine with either. Themeparkgc  Talk  01:19, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I agree there's a bit of a grey area there. In your example, I would still say to leave it as SBNO until the removal is complete, unless one of two things changes: 1) We create a new status such as "Removal scheduled" or "Being demolished" to help eliminate the grey area, or 2) we redefine the status SBNO clearly, so that it doesn't cover rides that are pending removal. I think #2 would be difficult to do, since "standing but not operating" in the literal sense seems to support any ride that is still physically standing regardless of its announced future.
Think of a ride that is about to move locations. We know it's about to move, but we can't say it is in the new location until it's actually moved, nor can we say it's defunct. In that case, we would say SBNO until the move is complete, right? I tend to lean the same way in this situation until the ride is actually demolished, though I admit I'm probably over-analyzing this! — GoneIn60 (talk) 03:07, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
I've been on vacation, boy has a lot happened while I was gone. I think this is a tricky situation. In my opinion, SBNO means that the fate is unknown as to what will be done with the ride. But once it's been announced the ride will not operate again, then it is closed. In many cases, a ride will close then be demolished months later but if readers see SBNO, I would think the fate is unknown. Usually when you see SBNO coasters, their fate is unknown. For example the rides at Geauga Lake, Kentucky Kingdom and Six Flags New Orleans. Those rides are SBNO because the fate is not entirely known, Son of Beast's fate is known.--Astros4477 (talk) 15:11, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
Welcome back! Well, after giving it some additional thought, I decided to let this go. I'll modify SBNO so it represents a temporary status that assumes there's still a chance the ride in question will be operating again. Look, I tried searching for your all requests. I have uploaded many images to Wikipedia based upon those. What I don't appreciate is coming onto Wikipedia to find another message telling me to upload more images that I have already said I can't find. If I can't find them, I can't find them. Simple as that. No amount of requests on my talk page is going to change that. As a result of this I have decided to remove your requests to prevent clutter on my talk page. I feel this is reasonable given the circumstances. Themeparkgc  Talk  00:28, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Categories

So I've been going around using HotCat (I like it very much btw, it's pretty easy to use) and I noticed that there's a category for Category:Amusement ride introductions by year and Category:Amusement rides by closing year. There's also Category:Roller coaster introductions by year but no Category:Roller coasters by closing year. Shouldn't it match the amusement rides and also include Roller coasters by closing year?--Astros4477 (talk) 16:15, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

We could add it, but is there that many closures every year to justify it? At the moment I wouldn't think there is enough closures to justify the addition. If you do a comparison, in 2011, 55 rides (including coasters) opened while only 21 closed (obviously these numbers are limited to those rides with articles on Wikipedia). We have to be careful of overcategorization. Themeparkgc  Talk  23:01, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
That's a good point. I was just wondering if there was a reason that category was never created. Thanks!--Astros4477 (talk) 23:10, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Vacation

Hello, I'm leaving for a vacation to Disney World tomorrow and I will not be able to be on Wikipedia when Cedar Point announces the new roller coaster. Could you move User:Astros4477/CP Alt.Winged into namespace? I already have as much information as possible in the article. I would just like it to be moved into name space and hopefully developed. I should be able to make it on Wikipedia from time to time but I most likely will not have time to fully develop the article and update all the other articles. Btw, I have left the same message on Dom497's page because one of you might not be on at the time of the announcement at 3:30 PM on Monday. Thank you very much! --Astros4477 (talk) 16:38, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

If you haven't seen yet, the website for GateKeeper has been leaked. There are screenshots here. Does this mean we can move it into namespace now?--Astros4477 (talk) 01:12, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
We have moved the article to GateKeeper (roller coaster). I was wondering if you think it would be a good idea to move it to GateKeeper later in the week because it is currently a redirect and only has one page linked to it so the roller coaster will defiantly be the common article.--Astros4477 (talk) 01:52, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
I think it was a bit too soon. I'm all for creating an article ahead of time provided it isn't published in the main space (I did this with Outlaw Run following its leak a couple of weeks back but didn't publish it until it was officially announced). Have a nice vacation (wish you could've been at the CP announcement taking pictures for Wikipedia though :P). Themeparkgc  Talk  06:57, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
I just checked out the possibility of moving the article. Since there is a heap of links at Gatekeeper (disambiguation), I don't think it could really be moved especially since reliable sources cannot be used to determine whether this is the primary topic. Hi. When you recently edited SkyScreamer, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Agawam (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

New template idea

So I had a thought a while back to develop a new template similar to {{Episode list}} which is currently used on television articles for use on theme park articles. At the moment it is just a wrapper of the episode list template but eventually I'd like to make it stand on its own two feet. You can see the template and its parameters here.

In the examples I have created, I've taken a couple of rides from Dreamworld. In my second sandbox you'll see two tables. Essentially these tables would be on List of Dreamworld attractions and List of former Dreamworld attractions, respectively (many parks already have these style of articles). Note that the second table features additional parameters such as status and closed. In my third sandbox I have transcluded those tables. Automatically, the template has gotten rid of the descriptions and compacted the tables which would then be ideally used on the main park's article.

I'm just wondering what everyone else's thoughts would be on developing this template and whether it would be useful here on Wikipedia. I am looking for feedback on the parameters I have included and any that I should include. Also any help in converting this template to be a standalone from the episode list would also be appreciated. Themeparkgc  Talk  05:44, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

I really like this idea. When I first came on Wikipedia my first goal was to standardize the ride listings in the Cedar Fair articles so this would really help with the rest too. Just so I'm clear, you wanna create a template that we could put in each amusement park article and fill it in with the rides, that way all the ride tables will be the same?--Astros4477 (talk) 12:22, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
I like the idea too. Also, I would love to help you in getting the template into all the amusement articles but school is starting in a few days and depending on what subjects I get I may not be around as often. And to Astros, yes, I believe that's what he's talking about.--Dom497 (talk) 12:29, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
Essentially the idea is to have the ability to have detailed [[List of <parkname> attractions]] and [[List of former <parkname> attractions]] articles. This would then just require a header and a one-line transclusion on the main article about the park resulting in a condensed table of summary style. Hit the edit button on the pages I listed above to get a better idea.
It would not be ideal for every amusement park article though. There are some parks out there which would not have enough attractions or notability to warrant the split into two or three articles.
As I said earlier there is still a bit of work to get it in a state where it could be used on articles. Thanks for the comments guys. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:32, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
Ok I know what your saying now. Ya I'm totally ok with that as long as there is still some kind of listing of the rides on the main article.--Astros4477 (talk) 00:45, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, that listing would look something like this. Themeparkgc  Talk  01:51, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

Bolliger & Mabillard GAN

Hi there! As you know, school is back in session and my time on Wikipedia has been limited (for at least now) because of school. If you wouldn't mind, the Bolliger & Mabillard article is currently under review and if anything needs to be fixed within the article after the initial review is complete, could you please help fix them? If I get a chance to come online, I will fix the problems but I'm not sure if I will be depending on how much homework I get. The same message has been posted on Astro's talk page.--Dom497 (talk) 22:56, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

I've added it to my watchlist. I'm quite busy at the moment too so hopefully between the 3 of us we will be able to manage it. Themeparkgc  Talk  01:19, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
Turns out there were no issues to fix, so it was passed. Themeparkgc  Talk  23:12, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
I would suggest a possible slight rewrite for the introduction as I thought I could do with one, but it wasn't an issue that would stop the passing. Regards, the reviewer. John F. Lewis (talk) 23:17, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the extra info. When I get a chance I might look into it. Themeparkgc  Talk  23:23, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Legoland Florida logo.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Legoland Florida logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:13, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Q-Bot Legoland

Hi Themeparkgc

Last year you editted "Q-Bot LEGOLAND Windsor" to a much higher standard of input than me and my friends. We have NO wikipedia knowledge or editing skills, we are just theme park fans.

Would it be possible for you to include sources from the official Legoland page?? I don't know how to source. It seems a user called Islander does not feel the page is worthy of Wikipedia, but we both put time into creating it so I think it could still hold value.

Glitterbug — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.75.59.194 (talk) 09:52, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

If you want to improve the article you could simply include the following wherever you want to include a source.
<ref>http://www.legoland.co.uk/</ref>
Obviously you would need to substitute the Legoland website with other websites. I can come along later and cleanup the references to make them look a bit nicer. Additionally, you will need to add the following to the bottom of the article just before the two categories:
== References ==

{{Reflist}}
Hope this helps. For more detailed information, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners. Themeparkgc  Talk  23:11, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

B&M Feature Article?

Its always been a goal of mine that I want to get an article to FA status on Wikipedia. Of course I've never been able to do it yet but I was wondering, on a scale of 1 to 10, how much of a chance do you think the B&M article has a chance to becoming a FA. Of course some more editing would need to be done but that can be taken care of no problem. Also, I'm working on getting permission to use photos of the track being manufactured (from NewsPlusNotes) as I'm thinking about including a quick section about the manufacturing process (as much as B&M has told NPN), you think it would be good to include that?--Dom497 (talk) 23:25, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

FA is a lot harder to get than GA. To put it nicely, my one and only nomination went terribly. I ended up withdrawing it within hours of nominating it. In saying that, I don't want to put you off. I would recommend peer reviews, copy edits and anything else that is available prior to nominating it. Also, a FA review would not like a source hosted on Blogspot. Themeparkgc  Talk  23:58, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
So they may not like NPN....but what about YouTube? ;) Anyway, ya same with WindSeeker...I went into a corner and cried for the rest of the day. :P --Dom497 (talk) 00:10, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

WikiProject Amusment Parks

I noticed that WikiProject Amusement Parks doesn't have a Wikipedia ad and I just wanted your feedback on one that I created. I haven't uploaded it to Wikipedia yet so changes can be made. The ad can be found here. After clicking the link, click on the image to see the full ad.--Dom497 (talk) 19:28, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

That's probably more suitable for Wikipedia:WikiProject Roller Coasters. I think there was something around sometime for either the Roller Coaster or Amusement Park WikiProject but I am not sure where it has gone. I personally don't see the point in having an advert. Where would this advert be placed? Themeparkgc  Talk  05:00, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
Found the ad I was thinking of. It is available here. It was for WikiProject Roller Coasters though. Themeparkgc  Talk  05:31, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
Wikipedia Ads are usually placed on user pages/talk pages (see my talk page for an example) to promote certain things. A few hours after I created the ad I realized that it was directed more to roller coasters so I am in the process of creating another one.--Dom497 (talk) 14:38, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Collaboration of the month?

On a related topic, I thought I'd get your thoughts on an idea I've had for a while. To get some more interest in the WikiProject, I was thinking of starting up a Collaboration of the month style of thing like what used to be done for the roller coaster project. Members of the project would nominate articles which the whole project could focus on for a period of a month with the end hope of getting the article up to GA status (or even FA in some cases). What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it would work or would it be a waste of time? Themeparkgc  Talk  05:00, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

I like the idea. I've seen it on other WikiProjects and always thought it would be good to include it. I think for the first month you might want to do a beta/trial version of the collaboration just to see how everyone responds because there is always the chance people may not be interested.--Dom497 (talk) 14:38, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
How many people still contribute regularly? I don't feel like there's many.--Astros4477 (talk) 19:44, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
That's why I said to do a beta/trial first. We could send out a message to all the participants in the WikiProject to see if they are interested. (I have access to EdwardsBot) ;) --Dom497 (talk) 19:46, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
A trial sounds good. I also have some other ideas for the project which I will post later. Astros, other than us, I think you'll find editors like User:Jpp858, User:Jedi94, User:McDoobAU93, User:Iluvml93 and User:Willrocks10 are all relatively active in their own areas. Since you seem to be somewhat of a Wiki expert I was wondering if you can tell me how an unregistered [user] can put in a request for a page move (Myrtle Beach SkyWheel) and get it moved just a couple of hours later without any discussion. Also a couple of my edits on Chance Rides were changed with the notation "ce per existing." Do you have any idea what that means? Thanks. JlACEer (talk) 23:51, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

It seems the page was listed as an uncontroversial move on the requested moves page. Basically anyone can review this and if they see that it is also uncontroversial, then they will move it. If you don't support that particular move, you could possibly ask Anthony Appleyard (talk · contribs) to revert it and then open a full requested move discussion. These must be listed for a minimum of 7 days for consensus to be formed.
As for the Chance Rides edit, ce would normally stand for copy edit. Not really sure what the user was meaning in the context of the edit though. Hope this helps. Themeparkgc  Talk  08:25, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. I don't have a problem with the page move, I was just surprised at how quickly it got done. Any time I've put in a request for something like a name change it takes days if not weeks to get done. JlACEer (talk) 11:38, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

Blue nav box

Hey Themeparkgc, I'm interested in adding a navigation box similar to your blue on at the top of your page, to my page. I see lots of users with them so is there a page that contains like a bunch of different ones or something? Thanks,--Astros4477 (talk) 19:24, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)I am interested too! I tried creating some things a while back but they all looked absolutely horrible.--Dom497 (talk) 19:39, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

I built my menu myself using my knowledge of HTML and CSS. There is a category of user namespace templates here although not all of them would be what you are looking for. There might be something of interest though. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:15, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

I wanted to make the timeline on USF and IOA look less daunting. Should I make it like Epcot's page and merge it into the history paragraphs? Or is it best to make it look like the one on WDW's page? Thanks! ihafez (talk) 01:53, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Paragraphs are best for most things. Here and here are some other examples. Themeparkgc  Talk  03:10, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

List of roller coaster rankings

Hey Themeparkgc, I was wondering if you're interested in helping promote List of roller coaster rankings to FLC. There might be some parts that could be hard finding refs for and there will have to be a lead written. I saw your one of the primary contributors to it so let me know. Thanks,--Astros4477 (talk) 17:56, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

I'd be happy to help. A lot of my edits on that article have been reversions though. My main concern is for the majority of the article, the only source will be RCDB. Any ideas on how to get sources from outside RCDB so it is not reliant completely on it? Themeparkgc  Talk  23:08, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
Yes actually Ultimate Roller Coaster looks like it's a great source. Should we rotate sources or something, how should we do that? Also it'll have to meet MOS:DTT so row scopes and cols will need to be added which will take a while. Another thing is they encourage color in the tables. What do you think of making a row a color if it once held the record? For example, in the Tallest wooden roller coasters section, Colossos, The Rattler, Mean Streak and Le Monstre would be colored. This is done in Lists similar to List of Cleveland Indians Opening Day starting pitchers if you need to see an example. Thoughts?--Astros4477 (talk) 23:53, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
I guess that colouring could work. Maybe we could also "grey-out" the SBNO rides. I guess Ultimate Rollercoaster could be used. Some newspaper articles could be good although they might not be up-to-date. I think rather than rotating sources maybe they should just be supplementary. Themeparkgc  Talk  00:03, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
That sounds good. That seems like the best way to use the coloring, I'm not sure how else it could be used. What do you exactly mean by being used supplementary?--Astros4477 (talk) 00:09, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
Use RCDB and other sources rather than one or the other. Themeparkgc  Talk  00:16, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
Thought I'd jump in. The problem with Ultimate Roller Coaster (other than it's a fan site) is that a lot of what it has listed doesn't match RCDB. Also, there are some secondary sources that actually contradict both RCDB and Ultimate Roller Coaster. I don't have any specific examples, but I know I've come across that in the past, which is why I hesitate to use either as reliable sources. --GoneIn60 (talk) 02:28, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
Those are the best two sources I could find. Many other sites are outdated or even more unreliable. There's actually a lot of work that needs to be done to reformat the charts so I'll be taking breaks. I'll remove the in-use template when I'm taking a break so if anyone wants to contribute and help reformat the charts, it would be (greatly) appreciated. If anyone else does help, make sure you add the in-use template so all the your work doesn't get deleted if someone else edits it.--Astros4477 (talk) 02:59, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
RCDB would be much more reliable than URC. I've seen RCDB cited in several news articles so I guess the people writing those articles see it as reliable also. As for RCDB being sometimes wrong, I would argue 99.9% of the time it is correct (one case that falls into the 0.1% is summarised here). If there is something that is supported widely by sources outside of RCDB (that aren't just ripping off the press release from a park), then we should discuss its inclusion on an individual case-by-case basis. Themeparkgc  Talk  03:06, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

What does everybody think about removing the Location columns in each of the tables? I feel like it extends the tables more than it needs to and it's not really needed. The Park column would obviously stay.--Astros4477 (talk) 18:19, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Personally, I find the location column useful. There are many park names, especially the ones that are overseas, that I wouldn't have known their location if it wasn't listed in the chart. I viewed the page in 1024x768 resolution (considered low by today's standards), and it does fill the screen but doesn't look all that bad. If we really need to reduce the columns, I would torch manufacturer before torching location. My 2¢. --GoneIn60 (talk) 19:09, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
I do have my doubts about the flags though. Something tells me they wont make it through the whole process but we'll have to wait for that. What do you guys think about an individual RCDB ref for each coaster similar to Bolliger & Mabillard? I was thinking we might need to do this but the RCDB ref used for each table already displays the info used. Also, I'm adding RCDB and URC refs for each table. RCDB is more reliable but atleast it won't look like we're only using one source. Can anybody find a ref for Steel Steepness? I've come up empty on that one.--Astros4477 (talk) 19:21, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Dates in Infobox amusement park

When you add {{Infobox amusement park}}, please use {{Start date}}, as I did in this edit. Thanks! Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:54, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

Originally I was thinking there was no benefit for adding that template when it is just a year. However, looking at the documentation I see the template produces a hidden ISO date format. I would have definitely added it if there was a month as well. Themeparkgc  Talk  23:13, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

WikiProject switch

Why was this edit performed to switch the WPs? Are you deprecating the old template and redirect the WikiProject, or...? --Izno (talk) 02:45, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

Please see WT:APARKS#Incorporate WikiProject Roller Coasters. Eventually the WikiProject will be a task force of the amusement parks project. At this stage I am merging some of the tags together. As there are about 1000 articles in the project, this will take some time. Once that is complete, I will merge in the old WP:ROCO pages. Themeparkgc  Talk  02:52, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
It's fine. I just know that there are some finicky people out there who twitch when WikiProject templates get switched/moved/etc, so I was just checking in. --Izno (talk) 02:54, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

Question

Hey, I'm currently working on getting Superman: Escape from Krypton to GAN. I know your familiar with Tower of Terror II and I see they both are 100 mph. I also noticed that ToT opened a few months before Superman. However, all the press releases for Superman called it the first roller coaster in the world to reach 100 mph. Could you maybe clear this up for me? I'm not too familiar with the rides. Was ToT not announced as 100 mph? I know the speed can change after testing.--Astros4477 (talk) 03:23, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Superman was supposed to be the first, but due to the problems it had before opening it wasn't. See this press release for more information. Similarly ToT beat Superman in getting its car reversed in 2010. Hope this helps. Themeparkgc  Talk  05:55, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

The article Flying School (roller coaster) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable. One unreliable source, no significant coverage.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hand-coding

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyes@wikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:06, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited El Loco (roller coaster), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Dongli (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Help finding archived articles

Hey, I currently working on re-writing the Dragon Challenge article (to get it to GA) in my sandbox and I need help finding articles for the first 2 paragraphs in the "Dragon Challenge (2010 - present)" section. Orlando Sentinel had to have covered almost everything having to do with Harry Potter in Universal but I can't find any articles. I was thinking that some articles that might be useful would be archived through Way Back Machine but I can't find any article through WBM, ony audio files which will do nothing. I was hoping that maybe you know more about how to find archived articles and maybe you could find them for me just this one time. Knowing that you're busy, I will leave this same message on Astros' talk page.--Dom497 (talk) 20:38, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Six Flags Fiesta Texas/Iron Rattler edits

Do you have any suggestions for dealing with user User:Jpp858? He makes constant edits to the Six Flags Fiesta Texas page, undoing my edits without any explanation. He rarely provides adequate sources, and his grammar skills leave much to be desired.JlACEer (talk) 05:45, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for putting our situation to Themeparkgc. I would love to see his opinion on this. Themeparkgc please read our conversation about Rattler/Iron Rattler on my talk page.--Jpp858 (talk) 05:59, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
I have your talk page on my watchlist Jpp858 so I have seen this play out for a bit. In general terms, my personal opinion of the converting a wooden coaster into a steel one is that they should be treated as separate roller coasters. So this is against the way Duane at RCDB has been listing them. However, due to the similarities between the old and new coasters we have only one article for both versions here on Wikipedia (e.g. Iron Rattler, Texas Giant).
My personal opinion would be for it to be listed twice. Following the RMC renovation there is no way you will be able to ride it as the traditional wooden coaster, so "The Rattler" would therefore be a former attraction. Since there is a replacement coming (in the form of a steel coaster utilising some of the same supports), "Iron Rattler" would be a future attraction. To the casual reader looking at the listing of current roller coasters (as it stands now), it would be very confusing for a number of reasons:
  1. How did a roller coaster open in 1992 and 2013?
  2. Why is it listed in the "current roller coasters" section if it is under construction?
  3. Was the roller coaster manufactured by both RCCA and RMC?
  4. What is a hybrid coaster? (related AFD)
All of this could be resolved by having two entries – one in the former table and one in a future table.
Separate from all of this, most of the media has reported the Rattler as being closed and removed with Iron Rattler being a replacement coaster (as opposed to a renovation).
So in short, I'd keep it at the two entries. Hope this helps resolve the dispute. (P.S. if the edit warring continues the article could be edit protected or blocks could be issued by an administrator). Themeparkgc  Talk  07:21, 30 December 2012 (UTC)\
I agree, but someone else can make the edits. I'm not going to continue playing the undo/redo game with Jpp858. I provided an explanation for each of my copy edits and initiated discussion on his talk page, politely asking him not to undo my edits.JlACEer (talk) 16:06, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
