Sports rules

I don't really have a strong position on the issue, however I am wondering if you could give me an example of a sports regulation which isn't really just a rule. After all there is the sports law category. I would consider any activity within some league to be merely a "rule", not a "regulation" in the way congress subpoenas players, etc. You seem to be reverting it awful quick, so you obviously have a strong view on it. It makes more sense to me the other way. Be well, Pontiff Greg Bard (talk) 22:59, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

These things are usually discussed prior to taking action, which you did not do. The category was well estabished and extremely populated. You must have felt strongly to go to so much trouble with CfD. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE 23:04, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
I certainly do not get permission for every little thing I do around here. The move appeared very non controversial. There are clearly reasonable cases where I might go through a proposal, and a cfd process, etc., and there are many cases where I would not bother. The presence of sports law sinched it for me. It is consistent with "game rules," etc.
I certainly do not feel so strongly about it to go through cfd. If people want it to stay where it is that's fine. Wikipedia works by consensus, and I do my part be being agreeable. In fact, if you would have convinced me of it I would have moved it back myself. However, you still have given me no particular reason for "rules and regulations" (although I suppose it couldn't be that you merely like the name on a whim --because you would never do that).
So I guess my question is, did you consider my proposal that it could be time to split out those regulations to their own category? That might actually be more helpful for people's navigation. Be well, Pontiff Greg Bard (talk) 02:37, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Hazardous Goods Vehicle

A tag has been placed on Hazardous Goods Vehicle requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. - Jarry1250 (t, c) 16:51, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

I'm sorry that you're pissed, but deletion is not a reflection on you and you should not take it personally. Start your article here where you can edit it unmolested until it's ready to be moved into the body of the encyclopedia. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 17:08, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

I'm sorry you feel that way, there wasn't much there, which I could move to your user space were you to ask. You should review our policies whilst you calm down and remember that one of them is to maintain civility and not make personal attacks. If you cannot abide by these now, it's probably best if you desist from editing until you are able to. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 17:26, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

A holdon tag is no guarantee that a deletion won't take place. The holdon tag tells you to put the reasons for not deleting on the talk page. Did you? Carlossuarez46 (talk) 00:16, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

The talk page has never existed. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 00:23, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Do you want it restored to your user space? Carlossuarez46 (talk) 00:26, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

That's certainly your right, but just technically, nothing could be deleted before you saved it if it never existed, ever. No admin or anyone else can delete a page that has never been edited. Cheers, Carlossuarez46 (talk) 00:53, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Heli-logging, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://forestry.com/blog/helicopter-logging-heli-logging. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 00:42, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Deleting pages

Why is there no room for discussion? Even when it's started on a talk page, you just poof delete everything. NO discussion allowed. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE 17:17, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

I assume you're referring to Heli-logging. That was deleted because it was copied without permission from another website. Deletions like this are authorized by Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item #12. Stifle (talk) 18:49, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
Then you better get busy because there are tons of things copied from the Internet. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE 23:06, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
I delete any that I can find. If you find one, please place {{db-g12|Source website}} at the top and an administrator will review it. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 09:09, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Chris Crowe

Hi, you tagged this article as unreferenced, even though it is...GiantSnowman 18:12, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

At the end of the article, listed under 'External links.' GiantSnowman 19:32, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
No, but the tag states that "This article does not cite any references or sources"; and I have proved that it does. GiantSnowman 11:01, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
I do yes. Of the two external links, one details his club career and the other his international one. I will, however, leave the refimprove tag you have added as, of course, inline citations are always prefrable. GiantSnowman 11:56, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
Don't be an arse, remain civil. GiantSnowman 13:26, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
I haven't acted like I own the article AT ALL - I simply removed a tag which, seeing as you have replaced it with a more accurate one, was obviously incorrect. GiantSnowman 13:35, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
I'm not interested in fencing with you. You obviously feel strongly about your editing power, as you did not replace the original tag with the one there now. If you had been concerned about the page, and not your way, you might have. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE 13:42, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
I don't want to fence with you either; I simply mentioned my removal of the tag as a courtesy. True, I perhaps should have replaced it with a more appropiate one, but there's no need to create such a big fuss over a relatively minor issue. GiantSnowman 14:17, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
Correct, and correcting the tag rather than a complete deletion would likely have evoked the desired response. Good luck. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE 15:17, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Heli-logging

Hi There,

A couple months back you were doing some work with Heli-logging before it was deleted for copyright violations. It was created again today, but not in a terribly good form (i.e. I was about to speedy delete it again). Anyhow, I saw your old version, and since the article is a worthwhile topic, I just pulled an altered version of your old opening paragraph, and tagged the article as a stub. If you're interested, please feel free to wade back in and take a stab at expanding the article (just don't copy ad paste anything from another website). However, it could need some more grammar/prose checks to make it better. I was wondering if you could give me a hand? Especially the parts after "History" needs some looking into. I would be very grateful for any help :)

Grab some glory, and a barnstar

Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 15:23, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:02, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody!

Stats
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the May 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, your word totals are cumulative for barnstars (not the leaderboard). Over the course of the next week or two, we will be handing out the barnstars.

David Barton page

To whom it may concern: My edits were an attempt to let someone know that the page is a biased hit-piece. Reading this page, you'd think it was written by an ex-girlfriend of Barton's who has vowed to exact some kind of revenge against him. It is ok and necessary to show negative comments about a person or his qualifications, etc., but this page is so far slated against him that my screen almost slid off of my desk. The page quotes people who obviously have great animosity towards Barton and his beliefs as if they are objective obervers. For example, quoting the opinion of an anti-religious freedom group like Americans United for the Seperation of Church and State should be accompanied with an explanation that their opinion of Barton is extremely biased. Believe me, people reading this page deserve to hear more from Barton than from Spector. His opinion of Barton belongs on this page about as much as Paris Hilton's opinion of George Washington belongs on his. Sincerely 146.130.125.114 (talk) 15:12, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

barton page

Great. Sorry for my haste in trying to correct this problem. I was a little upset that it took longer to find negative information on the pages of Castro, Chavez, and Mao than on the page of David Barton. You can understand my shock at this blatant character assasination taking place. I hope we can find a way to get this page to tell a fair, well documented, balanced, two-sided, truthful story of who this man is. Sincerely, 146.130.125.114 (talk) 15:23, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Question for administrator

{{adminhelp}}

The most likely reason is that you have disabled it in preferences->editing, or that you use a browser without JavaScript capability (possibly because you have disabled it). Can you check those two? This is not really an admin question, though. --Stephan Schulz (talk) 13:22, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Jefferson

Hi! I just noticed your interpretation of the US constitution as not being a living document, but embodying eternal truths. That's arguable. But what I am surprised about is that you quote Jefferson in support. Jefferson very much held the opposite position - he considered it somewhat flawed ("yet every human essay must have defects"), in no way binding for future generations ("The present generation has the same right of self-government which the past one has exercised for itself.", "Can one generation bind another and all others in succession forever? I think not."), and called for frequent rewriting to adapt to new situations ("Time and changes in the condition and constitution of society may require occasional and corresponding modifications", "We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors"). All quotes conveniently assembled at [2]. --Stephan Schulz (talk) 13:11, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Yes Stephan, but what you and every other lefty failed to grasp is that you must amend the Constitution to change the interpretation. Jefferson never said anything to the contrary. Sure each generation can change things, and there is a process for doing so. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE GOOD WORKS 13:27, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Well, that may be your opinion (and I don't intend to dispute it), but its not Jefferson's. Jefferson found the amendment process cumbersome, and repeatedly stated preference for a complete remodelling of the social contract "every 19 or 20 years" ("Every constitution, then, and every law, naturally expires at the end of nineteen years. If it be enforced longer, it is an act of force, and not of right. It may be said, that the succeeding generation exercising, in fact, the power of repeal, this leaves them as free as if the constitution or law had been expressly limited to nineteen years only. In the first place, this objection admits the right, in proposing an equivalent. But the power of repeal is not an equivalent.[...]"), sometimes even polemically calling for a regular re-revolution ("God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. [...] The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure."). --Stephan Schulz (talk) 13:45, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Well that's great, and Jefferson knew what the process to change that was, just as it is today. You don't get to cheat the system because it's "cumbersome", as it should be. Read the Declaration of Independence and other quotes by Jefferson, and you'll find he wasn't for just throwing aside laws as you might think by just any means. Frustration is not a viable excuse to legislate from the bench. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE GOOD WORKS 14:04, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
What do you call the Declaration of Independence if not "cheating of the system" that was in force back then? I agree, of course, that Jefferson had a dim view of legislating from the bench (he just loved John Marshall ;-), but that's a different question. And, of course, Jefferson lost that debate... --Stephan Schulz (talk) 14:21, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
You can't just look at the single document out of context and say it was cheating. They had used every legal means available, and the King was stationing troops in Boston, something he did not do at home. The English people were also represented in Parliament, something the colonists were not. So there is more to the story that you are ignoring, and must take into consideration. These men were also duly elected by the people in their states. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE GOOD WORKS 14:34, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
So you only get to cheat if you would otherwise lose? But I think this digresses to far from the point, namely that choosing Jefferson as a proponent of a static, inflexible constitutional order is misusing him. But I suspect we are unlikely to agree if we argue till 1086. --Stephan Schulz (talk) 14:52, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Jefferson never believed the Constitution was flexible, except that it could be amended. Read his quote on my page on question of construction. No he wasn't flexible, at all, otherwise the clauses could mean nothing or anything. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE GOOD WORKS 16:19, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

What I wrote was "The request was made by the Soviets, for the bombing of choke points, including Berlin and Leipzig, the other cities were added during the discussions. so not accurate to say there was no reqst"

My reversal has nothing to do with me being an administrator (when it come to content administrators have no more of a preferential position than any other editor). What we do have some discretion over is the behaviour of editors who have been naughty. For example I reverted a cut and past move recently, and in doing so I discovered that the editor concerned had been engaging in such practice with dozens of pages, there for I took it further.

In this case you made a bold edit and I have reverted it. My source for doing this is listed in the article. I am happy to discuss it further on the talk page of the article. I would be interested in why you think that no request was made, are you sure that you do not mean that no written request was made for Dresden? There is disagreement among historians over whether Dresden was discussed, but I have not read an account that says that the Soviets did not discuss bombing lines and the help the Western Allies could give the Soviets interdicting troop movements to the Eastern Front. -- PBS (talk) 22:42, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

It helps with navigation. I have been reading the source you have supplied. It is not a reliable source because Conroy writing in 1989 leans heavily on David Irving's now discredited book (See Richard J. Evans. David Irving, Hitler and Holocaust Denial: Electronic Edition, 6. General Conclusion Paragraphs 6.8, 6.20, 6.21). Specifically On page 32 there is a comment "No documents have been found to link the Soviets to a formal request for bombing of the Eastern Front.12" (Footnote 12 is to Irving p. 228). -- PBS (talk) 23:16, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
I'm sorry but I don't see your point. I'm not a professional historian, but I do try to find the best sources I can. I don't see the link with the Halocaust, and I don't know which discredited book you mean. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE GOOD WORKS 13:34, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
The point is that Irving's research can not be trusted. Many people before Irving v Penguin Books and Lipstadt did not realise that he is not a trustworthy person, so it is not unusual to find him cited in older articles. But we now know that we can not trust his word, so if someone like Conroy makes a statement based on "research" done by Irving, it can not be trusted to be accurate. In this case on page 32 Conway wrote "No documents have been found to link the Soviets to a formal request for bombing of the Eastern Front", but he cited Irving for this (but we know Irving is untrustworthy) and more recent research done by a number of historians has turned up documentary evidence of the request. However that documentary evidence does not include Dresden. Taylor relies on (and explains) that one of the British interpreters says he heard the Soviets agree to include Dresden, but some other historians have pointed out that the translator made this claim after the cold war had stated, and he may have said it for propaganda reasons. "You pays your money and makes a choice" on the issue of Dresden, but there is no dispute that the bombing of choke points along with a bomb line was discussed. (A bomb line was the point east beyond which the Western Allis would not bomb for fear of hitting Soviet formations. The Western Allies had a similar line drawn up by the army groups and air forces in the west for the same reason). -- PBS (talk) 02:00, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

On another issue see Talk:Library of Alexandria#Citations and this edit to Library of Alexandria. -- PBS (talk) 02:00, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

US, a product of the British Empire?

This featured article British Empire refers to the US as a "product" of the British Empire (British_empire#Legacy). I am not too comfortable with the word as the US is generally seen to be a product of a bloody war against the British Empire. Just wanted to check with you on your views about the small but important statement in a widely viewed article. Zuggernaut (talk) 15:46, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Assessment fro Conservatism in the US article

I assessed the article as C per your request for assessment. There are still quite a few problems with it that I can see just by skimming through it. Here are some suggestions for further improvement:

  • Try to add a few more images.
  • Could stand to use a few more links
  • Take the inline citations out of the lede and add them where they belong in the article.
  • There are way way too many references. Try pruning out some of the less useful or unused ones.
  • You might want to consider breaking out the list of Notables into its own list article.
  • It needs some prose work. Some of the wording is a little too complex (too many big words).

Talk:Weston Price

I've removed your comment [4] from Talk:Weston Price as it appears to make accusations of improper behavior, and use those accusations as rational for content changes. --Ronz (talk) 15:06, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Care to make an attempt to justify the comment, rather than harass me for hiding it? --Ronz (talk) 02:26, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for toning down your language.
Please note that you've twice now removed my comments to the talk page, apparently by accident. --Ronz (talk) 02:45, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
Can you please stop making comments like this? I'm hoping you made it before your reading my previous comments here. --Ronz (talk) 03:04, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

WP:BLP concerns

I've removed both your recent addition to Stephen Barrett and your comment about him on Talk:Weston Price. The latter is a clear WP:BLP violation. The addition to the article wasn't as much a direct BLP problem as it was just an agreement not to include because of BLP concerns. --Ronz (talk) 22:20, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

I found and noted the dates when the material was finally removed from the article. I added a link to Barrett v. Rosenthal to the article after looking everything over. --Ronz (talk) 23:25, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Consensus approach to editing

I didn't notice your interjection here. You bring up some good points. Care to discuss them here? --Ronz (talk) 16:19, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

I hesitate to go further here, but I'll bite this once. I don't like to elevate arguments to a higher authority, but if it can't be sorted out at the lowest level I will. I don't go for arguing on noticeboards over things that shouldn't require lots of arguing. The article is about Weston Price, not about how to debunk his work. Weston Price was not a quack. Difference of opinion with his contemporaries on an issue does not make him a quack. We should be adding sourced information about his work to the article. Using a live person to criticize a dead person is unethical, IMHO. We can't criticize Barrett because of the rules and policies you drum us with. Price isn't here to defend himself, and Barrett is protected by WP policy. The fact that Barrett makes his living on quackbusting and isn't even a dental researcher makes it worse. In my view criticism should be allowed, but IN A CAUTIOUS WAY (rational and wells sourced). We can't prove that Price's intent was to deceive the public, in fact all evidence points the other way. We need to work this article as a group, and give each editor's opinion the weight it should deserve, and not make this effort about policy. I've already added more content on his research in traditional dentistry. The Price Foundation is another entity and was not started by Price. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE GOOD WORKS 16:49, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
I agree with almost nothing you've written, so I'm going to focus on the one small exception:
"We should be adding sourced information about his work to the article." We agree upon that. We should be doing a great deal more, but maybe the rest can be put aside for the moment. It would be a very helpful turn of events if editors just focused on finding and evaluating sources. --Ronz (talk) 17:08, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Then I assume you'll continue to concentrate on policing editors and enforcing policy. Not helpful at all. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE GOOD WORKS 17:27, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Your assumptions are neither helpful nor accurate. If you'd simply follow Wikipedia policies and guidelines, you wouldn't be embarrassing yourself so, and setting yourself up to be blocked or banned.
So you feel that enforcing policy isn't helpful? I know that those that intend to violate policy agree with you. They end up blocked or banned. Do you want the same to happen to you? --Ronz (talk) 18:04, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Helpful, but not paramount. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE GOOD WORKS 18:37, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Who started what discussions?

Could you remind me which discussions I started [6], and why it's worth bringing up at FTN? I can't seem to figure out what you're referring to, or why it would matter. I didn't start the FTN or RSN discussion, nor any of the major discussions on the article talk page. --Ronz (talk) 03:30, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

You are more concerned with controlling editors and applying policy than you are with adding content to articles. I've reviewed your contribution history, and don't want anything to do with you. Be gone. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE GOOD WORKS 10:13, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
You reviewed my editing history and purposely still misrepresent it? --Ronz (talk) 15:28, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Purposely? And you know this how? Sounds like you are bordering on harrassment here. I suggest you just go about your own business. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE GOOD WORKS 16:07, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
My mistake. Even as a question, it would be better if I hadn't used a word that indicates possible intent. I've struck it out. --Ronz (talk) 16:17, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
So, are you capable of agreeing you made a mistake? How about correcting your mistake? --Ronz (talk) 18:07, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
If you're not going to respond further, I'll simply remove the comment because it is inaccurate, it misrepresents the situation, it places blame on an editor, and it is disruptive to the situation. --Ronz (talk) 18:47, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Careful how you use the term "disruptive", you could be violating a rule. Arbitrarily removing comments by other editors without permission is also against the rules. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE GOOD WORKS 18:57, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
I stand by the term "disruptive" given all the evidence, none of which is in dispute. --Ronz (talk) 19:53, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Whatever floats your boat, my man. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE GOOD WORKS 21:06, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
I've removed it then, noting the discussion here and the problems it causes which you do not dispute. --Ronz (talk) 22:35, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Ronz, please discontinue from posting on my talk page. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE GOOD WORKS 02:09, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Looking for an explanation

Sorry that I assumed you were drunk. [7] If you weren't, then perhaps you have another explanation? Using the situation you caused as a reason to attack me now is hardly helpful or indicative that you intend to follow Wikipedia's behavioral guidelines. --Ronz (talk) 15:06, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

You broke a huge rule on personal attacks. I don't owe you any explanation as to my state of mind, as it is irrelevant to your behavior. I'm not ruling out the possibility of bringing this incident forward, though it is not my nature to. I have asked you to stay away from me, and refrain from posting on my talk page, yet you persist. You placed the insult on another user's talk page, which is worse than posting it here. Furthermore you have not followed the spirit of any guidelines that you preach, in my view. You have behaved identically to other users associated with the Weston Price/Barrett dispute, which is clearly noted on their user talk pages and the noticeboards. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE GOOD WORKS 15:26, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Sorry I was unclear. I'm asking for an explanation for your behavior. The behavior which I was unable to find a good faith explanation for.
I didn't attribute malice to your behavior, but I shouldn't have attributed anything else to it either. Again, I'm sorry. --Ronz (talk) 15:33, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Only because WP promotes exhaustive application of benefit of the doubt, the assumption of good faith and my wish to avoid conflict will I let this slide. But if you stalk me, insult me, harass me or disrupt my work on WP any further, I will pursue an enforcement request to the fullest extent possible. I am here to enjoy work in editing articles of interest on WP. I am not here to be harassed by quibbling over WP policy or self-appointed policing of WP. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE GOOD WORKS 15:49, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Courtesy notice

I think we settled these problems, but I felt they were important to mention at BLPN given the problems from other editors. --Ronz (talk) 17:00, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Refactored my comment for you

I've struckout my comment that you objected to, and wrote a more neutral reply based upon the guidelines for the noticeboard itself [8]. --Ronz (talk) 15:08, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Very kind, but I do see the change notices on my watch list. You don't have to include comments here. Thanks. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE GOOD WORKS 15:11, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
I wanted to get your response, and have it somewhere other than the noticeboard where we could discuss the situation further if necessary. I'm glad it's settled. --Ronz (talk) 15:23, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

BLPN

Following with my comment at BLPN [11]: Here's an example: If you had only written [12], I'd have said it was a BLP violation - no source, no indication of what the problem it was or how it related to the discussion. It appears to purposely attack Barrett. But when you wrote it after [13], it looked particularly libelous. First you attack Barrett in the article about him, then your very next edit attacks him in a talk page. --Ronz (talk) 01:17, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Re [14]. I don't believe I said it is "essential." I did say, "I'd emphasize the purpose of BLP, to ensure material is not defamatory or libelous, regardless of where it is within Wikipedia." --Ronz (talk) 01:29, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

TFI - in case you're not aware, there's a current discussion about Ronz behavior on BPLN over at ANI - Wikipedia:ANI#Problem_on_BLP_noticeboard. FYI. --Ludwigs2 01:40, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

GOCE November 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

We have reached the midway point in our backlog elimination drive, so here is an update.

Participation report — The November drive has 53 participants at this point. We had 77 participants in the September drive. In July, 95 people signed up for the drive, and in May we had 36. If you are not participating, it is not too late to join!

Progress report — The drive is quite successful so far, as we have already almost reached our target of a 10% reduction in the number of articles in the backlog. We are doing very well at keeping our Requests page clear, as those articles count double for word count for this drive.

Please keep in mind the possibility of removing other tags when you are finished with an article. If the article no longer needs {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, or other similar maintenance tags, please remove them, as this will make the tasks of other WikiProjects easier to complete. Thanks very much for participating in the Drive, and see you at the finish line!

Articles that don't lend themselves to referencing

Well, the proper authority is us, the Wikipedians. We just have to get through the layers of long-timers who have been doing the same thing for years and years, but I believe that a properly worked-out policy could actually get adopted (that is, get consensus for change). Suppose you and I work out some kind of new procedure for sourcing Lists and Years, propose it and see what happens? It might take quite a while, but I think there are lots of folks who think as you and I do. I can start by drafting some ideas that I have. Sincerely, GeorgeLouis (talk) 05:49, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Okay, why don't you draft a first cut and I'll take a look. You could set a sandbox on your page. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE 15:29, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive Conclusion

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

We have reached the end of our fourth backlog elimination drive. Thanks to all who participated.

Stats

GOCE November 2010 backlog elimination drive graphs
  • 58 people signed up for this drive. Of these, 48 people participated in the drive.
  • Although we did not eliminate the months we planned to (January, February, and March 2009; and August, September, and October 2010), we did reduce the backlog by 627 articles (11.2%), which was over our goal of 10%.
  • 49 awards will go out to 33 of 48 participants. Check out the complete list of barnstar winners here.

Barnstars

If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the September 2010 backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering these barnstars within the next couple of weeks.

Our next drive is scheduled for January 2011. In the meantime, please consider helping out at the Wikification drive or any of the other places where help with backlogs is needed.

Thank you for participating in the last 2010 backlog elimination drive! We look forward to seeing you in January!

New Years Message for WikiProject United States

With the first of what I hope will be monthly newsletters I again want to welcome you to the project and hope that as we all work together through the year we can expand the project, create missing articles and generally improve the pedia thought mutual cooperation and support. Now that we have a project and a solid pool of willing members I wanted to strike while the iron is hot and solicite help in doing a few things that I believe is a good next step in solidifiing the project. I have outlined a few suggestions where you can help with on the projects talk page. This includes but is not limited too updating Portal:United States, assessing the remaining US related articles that haven't been assessed, eliminating the Unrefernced BLP's and others. If you have other suggestions or are interested in doing other things feel free. I just wanted to offer a few suggestions were additional help is needed. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments or suggestions or you can always post something on the projects talk page. GOCE drive news

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats.

Participation
GOCE January 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.

Progress report

We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal.

Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

GOCE January Backlog elimination drive conclusion

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We have reached the end of the month and the end of another successful drive; thanks to all who participated.

Statistics
  • 54 people signed up for the year's first Backlog elimination drive. Of these, 40 participated.
  • One of our goals was to reduce the size of the backlog by at least 10%. We managed to reduce the backlog by 633 articles, or about 12%.
  • Another goal was to eliminate as many 2009 months as possible from the queue. We eliminated January, February, March, and April—4 out of 12 months is not bad! In addition, we eliminated 37% of all remaining 2009 articles from the queue.
  • Chaosdruid copy edited Kutch Gurjar Kashtriya for 32,711 words, which is the largest single article completed in one of our drives so far. This article counts as six 5000-K articles, and Chaosdruid wins the "most 5000-K articles" leaderboard category. Way to go! A complete list of individual results is here.
Barnstars

If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the November 2010 Backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering the barnstars within the next couple of weeks.

Thank you for participating in this year's first Backlog elimination drive! We hope to see you in March.

Death panel

Hello. I'm commenting here because the conversation has moved away, in my opinion, from focusing on the article's content. No, there isn't a reason why I don't want attention. I think noticeboards are the places to get attention (such as WP:NPOVN). If you look back in the archive, you'll see comments from users Sean Hoyland, Critical, and Will Beback. They are experienced editors and they arrived to the talk page at times when there was a posting to a noticeboard. I don't think tags are effective recruitment tools. Do you want me to start a post at WP:NPOVN? At this point, though, it doesn't appear you have a POV problem with the article. Here are the number of people that have death panel on their watchlist.[15] (But yes, I started the article and I think I am the chief content contributor, though quite a few have contributed and discussed things.) You can go to any article, click on the history tab, then click on "Number of watchers" to get there. Best. Jesanj (talk) 15:09, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Personal talk page are appropriate to discuss article content issues. Why are you doing it? --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE 22:19, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
What are you asking? Jesanj (talk) 04:04, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
Stop posting article discussion on my talk page, is that clear enough? --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE 12:41, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
No problem, but in that case it appears you're missing a not when you say "Personal talk page are appropriate to discuss article content issues". (I also thought I posted general wiki-issue stuff, items unnecessary to make everyone read at death panel.) Best. Jesanj (talk) 18:34, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

GOCE drive invitation

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors

The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting.

This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated.

We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words".

Is it better now? Sp33dyphil "Ad astra" 13:45, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

I noticed a lot of changes, not sure why you deleted the reference to the Duke. If you have done some search you would have found out what that means here. My usual approach isn't just to delete something immediately because I don't know what it is. I think it's good that the redundancies were removed. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE 14:39, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

Slavery

Your artical on slavery completely misses the fact the there were more white slaves in the sugar colonies and the virginia colony that black. The term indentured servants was modified in fact to mean the after 1660 whites could nver escape their slavery. Google "Irish slavery" or "white slaves in america" and see the results. In Barbados over 80 percent of the sugar slaves were white. The same is true of Montseratt. Get behind the whitwash of "indentured servants" and you will find that Irish slaves were worth 5 lbs. but african slaves were worth 50 lbs. ad were better treated as a result. Hi TFI, I'm not clear why you've left a notability tag at Class 04 as this is clearly a disambiguation page, not an article. --Bermicourt (talk) 15:54, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

It appears that these pages are setup only for two articles. Is that the best way to use a diambiguation page? --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE 16:25, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I understand where you're coming from. Ordinarily no, hatnotes would be better IMHO but a) there is a whole series of these "Class XX" railway loco dab pages;most have more than two links - e.g. Class 25 - and they are regularly added to, and b) thus there is a degree of conformity about the present series of dab pages. I have no issue with Class 04 being hatnoted at the two articles concerned, but is it worth it? --Bermicourt (talk) 14:03, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

GOCE March drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive
GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graph

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter.

Participation

Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months.

Progress report

During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. We were able to complete 500 articles this month! End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here.

When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy-editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy-editing at this time for other reasons. The {{GOCEreviewed}} tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators.

Thank you for participating in the March 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. Our next copy-edit drive will be in May.

GOCE May mid-drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors May 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

Participation: Out of 49 people signed up for this drive so far, 26 have copy-edited at least one article. It's a smaller group than last drive, but we're making good progress. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive, largely due to the efforts of Lfstevens and the others on the leaderboard. Thanks to all. We have reduced our target group of articles—January, February, and March 2011—by over half, and it looks like we will achieve that goal. Good progress is being made on the overall backlog as well, with over 500 articles copy-edited during the drive so far. The total backlog currently sits at around 3200 articles.

Hall of Fame: GOCE coordinator Diannaa was awarded a spot in the GOCE Hall of Fame this month! She has copy-edited over 1567 articles during these drives, and surpassed the 1,000,000-word mark on May 5. On to the second million! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa and Stfg

GOCE May drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors May 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up

Participation: Out of 54 people who signed up this drive, 32 copy-edited at least one article. Last drive's superstar, Lfstevens, again stood out, topping the leader board in all three categories and copy-editing over 700 articles. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: We were once again successful in our primary goal—removing the oldest three months from the backlog—while removing 1166 articles from the queue, the second-most in our history. The total backlog currently sits at around 2600 articles, down from 8323 when we started out just over two years ago.

A gift for your front page...

I noticed that you write "Therefore, the US Constitution is NOT a living document in the context of being something that should be interpreted and molded to each era's defining issues.", and quote Jefferson on it. For your consideration, here is a different quote, to ponder, enjoy, and possibly add for balance:

On similar ground it may be proved that no society can make a perpetual constitution, or even a perpetual law. The earth belongs always to the living generation. They may manage it then, and what proceeds from it, as they please, during their usufruct. They are masters too of their own persons, and consequently may govern them as they please. But persons and property make the sum of the objects of government. The constitution and the laws of their predecessors extinguished then in their natural course with those who gave them being. This could preserve that being till it ceased to be itself, and no longer. Every constitution then, and every law, naturally expires at the end of 19 years. If it be enforced longer, it is an act of force, and not of right. Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, 6 Sept. 1789

Enjoy! --Stephan Schulz (talk) 11:51, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

GOCE mid-drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

  • Participation: Out of 37 people signed up for this drive so far, 19 have copy-edited at least one article, about the same as the last drive. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, every bit helps; if you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!
  • Progress report: We're almost on track to meet our targets for the drive. Great work, guys. We have reduced our target group of articles—August, September, and October 2011—by about 44%, and the overall backlog has been reduced by 58 articles so far, to around 2600 articles. The biggest difference between this drive and the previous one is a stronger focus on large articles, so total word counts are still comparable.
  • Don't forget about the Copy Edit of the Month contests! Voting for the August contest has been extended through the end of the month. You don't have to make a submission to vote!

GOCE September 2012 drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up

Participation: Out of 41 people who signed up this drive, 28 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing July, August, September and October 2011 from the backlog. This means that, for the first time since the drives began, the backlog is less than a year. At least 677 tagged articles were copy edited, although 365 new ones were added during the month. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2341 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 54 requests outstanding before September 2012 as well as eight of those made in September.

Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the August 2012 competition, and prizes will be issued soon. The September 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The October 2012 contest is now open for submissions. Everyone is welcome to submit entries and to vote.
