[edit]Hi
What exactly is wrong with including Jayne Nelson's former surname (Dearsley) in the article? What possible harm is there in including this? She wasn't known as Nelson until after she left the magazine as a full-time writer, so the relevance is that, before she left, she went by Dearsley, which eases any possible confusion for newer readers who may want to look at back issues.
I see no problem with that information being there, but I'm not going to revert it back and get into a silly edit war. I'd just like to know why you think it shouldn't be included. --Steve Farrell 15:06, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for replying. You're right, it does seem like a fairly pointless bit of information to include, but I remember that I wrote it in just after she'd changed her name. The only part of the article, really, that I think looks out of place is the J. Michael Straczynski stuff. I've never really understood the value of that being in there. --Steve Farrell 17:31, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your message on my talk page. Some exterior filming was quite definitely done at Warwick as I recognise the buildings. I used to work in Coventry and live in Leamington Spa and my bus used to take me through the university campus twice a day. I'll happily leave my edits undone if it's such a big deal, but I do feel that you could have added a 'citation needed' message for me. I could go down the route of locating the sequences in each episode that were filmed at Warwick if you like but this seems unnecessary. Psicorps 14:42, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Why did you remove link to state by state listing of obesity programs?
[edit]
That link does not break any rules of Wikipedia. That website is completely non-profit, no marketing and has valuable information for anyone wanting to learn more about Obesity in the United States. It was valuable to me, that is for sure, I was able to find obesity programs in my state.
There are numerous links to other websites with "forums" on it on Wikipedia, which is permitted so long as the content is relevant and useful. For example, for the duodenal obesity surgery wiki, the forum "Obesity Help" is permitted as is the "duodenal switch" forum. That website uses a forum to sell a ton of products, and it is still allowed. In fact, Obesity Help has links all over wikipedia to it's website.

Why did you delete go-karting weekly
[edit]I believe this had historical context, as an in-house staff magazine of a British electronic manufacturing company it's inclusion helps build a picture of the social aspect of industry at that time. Time has moved on and industry in Britain is a very different thing today.
I had hoped that Wikipedia could provide a useful structure for developing a vast historical record capable of being browsed at will folowing linked threads as the will takes one.
Was your objection that the content was too trivial for you or that it was badly presented or is it that Wikipedia is not the place for an historical record ?

Current theories among academic scholars prefer to address underperformance problems with remedial help. Students who qualify for special education can receive such remediation through that program. However, performing easier work does not necessarily help the learning disabled student acquire the skills that are vital for middle school, high school, college and the workforce. The needs of underperforming students who do not qualify is met in the alternative school.
This doesn't make sense at all...The needs of underperforming students who do not qualify is met in the alternative school...special schools are alternative schools too. So their needs are met...(69.117.20.128 16:58, 17 March 2007 (UTC))

Email forwarding
[edit]Hi Stephenb,
I was hoping when you posted the speedy delete Email forwarding that there would be some other article with all the stuff in it. I really ought to go back to work - but I've added enough details so that people can see what might be covered by the article (although I'm a little uncertain about the terminology).
If you have five minutes available, could you look at some of the formatting - I really couldn't think how to put the example in a "wiki" way - and perhaps you'd have a better idea. - From past experience many articles get deleted simply because they "look messy" and that's certainly not my stong point. The Beatles
[edit]We've been through this many, many times before. The term "current members", as far as The Beatles are concerned, is misleading. Thank goodness the infobox was altered to it would read "members" in the article. Every Beatle is a FORMER MEMBER. The Beatles existed as a group from 1960 to 1970. Lennon, McCartney and Harrison were members of The Beatles during the entire time the group was active. Ringo Starr joined The Beatles in 1962. So to make it clear that Starr was NOT an original member, it should be indicated on the infobox that he was a Beatle from 1962 to 1970. The members who left The Beatles early on, Sutcliffe and Best, definitely go in the former members section. Steelbeard1 11:56, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- The 'years active' line in the infobox actually makes any attempt to add the years that Lennon, McCartney and Harrison were Beatles in the infobox redundant. So it makes sense to include the years that Starr was a Beatle as he joined the group in 1962 replacing Best.

Brunel edits
[edit]Hi Stephen!
Thanks for patrolling the Brunel University pages and preventing malicious changes, however I am from the university, working under the authority of the university staff and am updating the wikipedia entrance in order to make them more relevant.
This is why I am trying to delete the Runnymede campus entry (which will be moved into the history section once it has been rephrased) as Brunel has now sold this campus.
I'm still a little new to wikipedia editing, so I don’t know if there is some more obvious route I should have taken rather than contacting you directly about editing the page, but your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated!
Once I have updated the pages I am going to try and encourage the university to adopt the more standardised wikipedia layout for university pages.
Best regards,

Re: Consensus
[edit]Perhaps it's up for interpretation, but reiterating another person's recommendation is essentially a vote. The way I make recommendations at AfD is that I read the arguments presented thus far, then I present my own conclusion, which can be redundant, provide fresh ideas, or both. If there is a disagreement, then a consensus is supposed to be sought through discussion and negotiation. In another recent AfD about a list of death in The Sopranos, I recommended a possible prose article to write about the theme of death in The Sopranos and its real-world context with the media and society's perspective of violence. Don't get me wrong -- when the occasion arises, I've even berated people who make a similar recommendation to me at AfDs to develop their arguments more fully. —Erik (talk • contrib) - 13:01, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
