Welcome

[edit]

Hey, Sonofdoom, welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad to see you contributing to Wikipedia's music articles. I noticed your comments on the Dark rock article which I started, especially this one: "I am all for "dark rock" finally recieving it's own page, and this could be a really interesting article if researched, written, and presented properly." I couldn't agree more. It looks like you are a fan of dark rock, and anything you can contribute would be greatly appreciated. One caution though, the English wikipedia is really fond of its sources, so if you can find a couple of magazine or book quotes to back up the things you write, it will make your rewrites that much smoother.

Cheers,  The Steve  02:36, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Allmusic

[edit]

Wanting to avoid edit wars... the genre (or "style" or "theme") fields on Allmusic are not used, as they are not sourced to a particular author. You need to find something that passes WP:RS to include it on the list. Blackmetalbaz (talk) 21:08, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Deepshadowslimited.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Deepshadowslimited.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Razorblade Romance cover

[edit]

The next time you want to upload an image to change the contrast of it, visit the image description page, i.e File:Razorbladeromancehim.jpg, and scroll down to "Upload a new version of this file". You can simply upload over an old version and make changes page that way, instead of having an older image deleted and a new page replacing it. Regards, — Moe ε 04:17, 1 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

HIM images

[edit]

I've taken File:Himlivetavastiahelldone2009.jpg off the HIM article. Please read WP:NFCC and when you upload a non-free image, to make sure follows every point of the non-free content criteria. Images of living people are not permitted if they are non-free, they are considered replaceable and are put up for deletion. I've placed the old image back onto the article. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Gauntlet (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Replaceable fair use File:Acidwitchmain.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Acidwitchmain.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — ξxplicit 03:34, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Uncover... has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Wikipedia is not a discography. Discographical entries must be notable, which a promo is clearly not.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Satanism may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s and 1 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • [[Image:Baphomet.png|thumb|right|[[Eliphas Levi|Eliphas Lévi's]] Sabbatic goat (known as The Goat of Mendes or Baphomet} has become one of the most common symbols of Satanism.]]
  • of Nine Angles (ONA, O9A) "represent a dangerous and extreme form of Satanism" <ref name=faxneld>>Per Faxneld: ''Post-Satanism, Left Hand Paths, and Beyond'' in Per Faxneld & Jesper Petersen (eds) '

The article The String Quartet Tribute to HIM has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Google returns 141 results for the page’s title in quotes. Results were only primary sources (and few of them at that) or torrent/download sites. Information unlikely to exist offline. Album is simply not notable enough.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at LaVeyan Satanism shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you get reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Sigilofbaphomet.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Sigilofbaphomet.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Stefan2 (talk) 11:13, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. A tag has been placed on File:BlackHouseCoS.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted content borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Replaceable fair use File:TheBlackHouseCoS.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:TheBlackHouseCoS.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 22:36, 31 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed your addition to the above article, as it seems you added content copied directly from the copyright web page http://ntnu.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva2:455597/FULLTEXT02.pdf. — Diannaa (talk) 04:57, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what that particular PDF file has to do with it. This information came from the book "Contemporary Religious Satanism", which is one of the main sources of information for the article. You'll notice that much of the content on the LaVeyan Satanism page is copied from a number of similar books. Are you suggesting that the paragraph should be rewritten using different wordage? If so, to what extent before it becomes "original research"? --St.HocusPocus (talk) 05:52, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A bot discovered your addition is a match for copyright content in the PDF file. The bot report is User:EranBot/Copyright/rc/22. The material that matched is from the paragraph that starts "A cornerstone in LaVey’s secular philosophy is the view on the human animal" on page 159 of the PDF. All material you add to this wiki needs to be written in your own words. That's what our copyright policy requires. If there's other copyright violations present in the article, you need to remove them, not add more. — Diannaa (talk) 23:08, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This information was copied directly from the "Karla LaVey" article here on wikipedia. You might want to go and police that article instead, seeing as though that is where the content was lifted from. This info has been on the "Karla LaVey" article for as long as I can remember. How has it only now shown up on your radar? By the way, by just removing an entire paragraph of content, you've made the "First Satanic Church" article's history section look retarded, as there is now no continuity. Clearly, you have inside information regarding said text's copyright status (information unknown to me), so why not just rewrite the paragraph yourself instead of leaving the article now disjointed? --St.HocusPocus (talk) 04:56, 10 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the mistake. In the future, when copying form one Wikipedia article to another, please provide attribution. This is legally required under the terms of Wikipedia's CC-by-SA license. Attribution is provided by at a minimum saying in your edit summary where you copied the content from. Here is a sample edit summary. The material appeared on a bot report, User:EranBot/Copyright/rc. In many instances I am able to determine that material was copied within Wikipedia, but it makes my job simpler while assessing cases on the bot report and will prevent you from receiving notices such as this in the future if you supply the attribution in your edit summary when you make the edit. For more information on this topic, see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. — Diannaa (talk) 14:58, 10 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I see you are still not adding the required attribution, as required under the terms of the CC-by-SA license. Please have a look at this edit summary as an example of how it is done. Please let me know if you still don't understand what to do or why we have to do it. Thanks, — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 19:15, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

[edit]

Hello St.HocusPocus, I just thought that I'd drop a line to introduce myself, seeing as how we are both fairly active over at the LaVeyan Satanism page. Correct me if I am wrong, but I am under the impression that you may be involved with this particular movement, particularly given your upload of the image of the 06/06/2006 ritual (which makes a great addition to the article, in my opinion at least, so thanks for uploading that one). Conversely, I am not a LaVeyan Satanist, but am working on trying to improve a range of Satanism-themed articles at Wikipedia; I was able to bring the Order of Nine Angles page up to GA status last year and am hoping to replicate that success with both LaVeyan Satanism and Temple of Set in the coming months. Any advice or recommendations would be very much appreciated; obviously I am focusing on the use of secondary sources authored by academics (which count as the best form of WP:Reliable Sources) and thus would caution against using some of the primary sources that you have introduced but I am nevertheless confidant that we can work together to bring the LaVeyan Satanism article up to a very good quality. Best, Midnightblueowl (talk) 15:14, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Midnightblueowl. I do identify as a LaVeyan Satanist, though I hate to think that would make it seem as if I have a bias, personal agenda behind in my editing of the article, of which I don't, though admittedly I can be pretty stubborn when it comes to articles that I have a personal interest in, though I think I've mellowed out a bit in that regard. Honestly, I've really wanted this article to be better for quite some time. Better by wiki standards, not by my standards. I'm admittedly not the most well educated in the field of what it takes for an article to be defined as good by wiki standards. Through observing your editing, though, I've learned quite a bit. Primarily in the importance of academic sources and not relying on primary sources, which were the vast majority of the sources I was using, which I now recognize as not conducive to an article reaching good status. I think my primary concern is with certain things being including which I think are of importance. Currently, a difficulty I'm running across is finding commentary to accompany The Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth and the Nine Satanic Sins in the same way there is accompanying commentary for The Nine Satanic Statements. I think both of these lists should be included, they are a big part of the belief system after all, but at the same time they almost seem to make the article look "choppy" without there being any context for them. Regardless, I'm just glad that somebody is taking an interest in making these articles better. --St.HocusPocus (talk) 17:40, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

With regards to holding a bias, that's not a problem at all; after all, everyone has a bias of one sort or another! My not being a LaVeyan (but nevertheless having an interest in the subject) gives me a certain bias; you being a LaVeyan gives you another. So long as we follow Wikipedia policies about using WP:Reliable Sources and ensuring that we stick to WP:NPOV then there shouldn't be any problems. I'll keep an eye out for any specific commentary on the Eleven Satanic Rites and the Nine Satanic Sins but I can't think of any specific commentaries in any academic publications off the top of my head. Best, Midnightblueowl (talk) 19:15, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

On a different note, I'm curious as to your thoughts on a current situation on another page. I recently made edits on the Zeena Schreck page, assessing the article as having multiple issues. Needless to say, these edits have been continuously reverted for unfounded reasons. Just curious as to your thoughts on my edits as they pertain to assessing the quality of the article (I simply made this assessment of the article based on the few things I know). Not wanting to get involved in an edit war, I'm refraining from further involvement. --St.HocusPocus (talk) 00:20, 27 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited LaVeyan Satanism, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Law and order and Draconian. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Nomination for deletion of Template:Church of Satan box

[edit]

Template:Church of Satan box has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page. Frietjes (talk) 20:19, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, St.HocusPocus. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, The Devil's Avenger, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Onel5969 TT me 01:10, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi St.HocusPocus. Um, you say that the image is your "own work". Is that a real photograph? Is that a real pack of 20? It looks a bit odd to me and seems to be so slim that it could more likely be a photo-shopped stylized promotional image of an imaginary object, with a single cigarette magically propped up alongside it. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:33, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this is in fact a real photo. I don't recall what camera I used, but I took it at a specific angle and probably ran it through an HDR process to make it pop. --St.HocusPocus (talk) 04:23, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
