Notice

The article List of Socialist Equality Party election results has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

These results have not received significant attention from reliable independent sources, which is hardly surprising as they didn't result in any wins or even came close.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A discussion is taking place as to whether the article List of Socialist Equality Party election results is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Socialist Equality Party election results until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article until the discussion has finished.

Hi @Johannes Maximilian: Thank you for taking the time to review this article!
I agree that the article would be better if it had more reliable sources. However, I believe that ALL of the key claims in the article are supported by reliable sources, summarized below:
Source assessment table
Source Independent? Reliable? Significant coverage? Count source toward GNG?
Cleveland Scene (1) Yes independent newspaper Yes Cleveland Scene is a news organization Yes full article discusses Maupin's past in the Workers World Party (WWP) and its youth wing, Fight Imperialism Stand Together (FIST) Yes
CPUSA (2) ~ CPUSA is a rival socialist organization ~ CPUSA is a rival socialist organization; however, most of its descriptions of Maupin in this article are factual with accompanying quotes, rather than ideological/opinion descriptions Yes article discusses Maupin's non-affiliation with CPUSA, collaboration with national Bolsheviks and other far-right figures, and organizational history in detail ~ Partial
The Nation (5) Yes independent newspaper Yes The Nation is a WP:NEWSORG No only briefly mentions Maupin and International Action Center No
The Guardian (6) Yes independent newspaper Yes The Guardian is a WP:NEWSORG No only briefly mentions Maupin and International Action Center No
CNN (7) Yes independent newspaper Yes CNN is a WP:NEWSORG No only briefly mentions Maupin and International Action Center No
Kyiv Post (8) Yes independent newspaper ~ opinion piece, though by writer focused on this topic area Yes article discusses Maupin, CPI, and its relationship to Tara Reade for half a dozen paragraphs ~ Partial
The Insider (11) Yes independent newspaper Yes The Insider (website) is a WP:NEWSORG Yes entire article is about Maupin, including CPI history, sexual abuse allegations, and relationship with Russian media Yes
Business Insider (14) Yes independent newspaper Yes Business Insider is a WP:NEWSORG ~ includes four paragraphs about Maupin's (key) role in getting American left-ish-ists to lend legitimacy to Nicaraguan government via election observation ~ Partial
Newsweek (15) Yes independent newspaper Yes Newsweek is a WP:NEWSORG ~ entire article is about an event by Maupin and CPI and their ideology/actions; however, article mostly repeats quotes and social media ~ Partial
Newsweek (16) Yes independent newspaper Yes Newsweek is a WP:NEWSORG No a list includes Maupin's name No
TruthOrFiction.com (18) Yes independent newspaper Yes TruthOrFiction.com is a WP:NEWSORG ~ entire article is about an event by Maupin and CPI and their ideology/actions; however, article mostly repeats quotes and social media ~ Partial
Polygraph.info (22) Yes independent newspaper ~ Polygraph.info is a US government news source; given that Maupin works for US geopolitical opponents, VOA may be unreliable Yes most of article is about Maupin and CPI; remainder is about the Rage Against the War Machine event that they helped organize ~ Partial
WUSA9 (25) Yes independent newspaper Yes WUSA9 is a WP:NEWSORG ~ although video does not mention Maupin, it discusses RAWM event held by Maupin and CPI ~ Partial
The Week (26) Yes independent newspaper Yes The Week is a WP:NEWSORG ~ although article does not mention Maupin, it discusses RAWM event held by Maupin and CPI ~ Partial
This table may not be a final or consensus view; it may summarize developing consensus, or reflect assessments of a single editor. Created using {{source assess table}}.
Would you look favorably on creating this article and removing whatever claims do not have reliable sources backing them up? SocDoneLeft (talk) 20:38, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello mate, unfortunately, there is just way too much wrong with the sourcing in that draft. Footnotes 4, 9, 12, 13, 20, 21, 24, 25, 27, 29, 30, 31, and 33 refer to sources that are outright unreliable. They need replacing, and it doesn't matter that some other sources might be fine. Best, --Johannes (Talk) (Contribs) (Articles) 20:48, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Johannes Maximilian: Thank you for your reply!
I removed all of those sources (except 20 and 21, since they're CPIUSA announcements about itself) and the article was mostly unchanged. Do you have any other recommendations? SocDoneLeft (talk) 21:03, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

-Samoht27 (talk) 15:46, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Samoht27: Thank you for your review! The deleted article was massively different from this article. For example, take WP:RS: That article had just 1 (Vice.com).
This draft has 7 WP:RS ([2] The Guardian, [3] The Free Press, [4] The Jewish Chronicle, [9] The New York Times, [10] Independent Political Report, [18] Vermont Sec of State, and [19] La Repubblica). This draft also has 11 WP:ABOUTSELF sources ([1] ACP Ledger, [5] CPUSA 32nd Convention, [6] ACP Declaration, [7] Hinkle tweet, [8] Garrido article, [11] CPUSA Solidnet message pt1, [12] CPUSA chapter tweets, [13] CPUSA Solidnet message pt2, [14] WAP declaration, [15] ACP Constitution, and [16] ACP Program).
In addition, each WP:ABOUTSELF source supports no claim that is substantial or self-serving beyond "ACP holds position X" or "CPUSA holds position Y". This is common in articles on smaller political organizations for summarizing their programs (for example). In this article, all claims which go beyond "ACP says X" are supported by a WP:RS.
If you have time, I would appreciate another review! SocDoneLeft (talk) 00:12, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
