Off to San Junipero

[edit]

I'm Bilorv and I edited Wikipedia from December 2013 to June 2024.

I've had one foot in and one foot out for a while, overcommitted to projects, and some big news means that (effective tomorrow) I won't have free time to do things properly here. I may intermittently be able to read this page or my Wikipedia emails.

I'm proud of the small part I've played in this encyclopedia. I've been thinking a lot lately about legacy and just looking at URFA/2020 shows you that when things are not actively maintained, they will be conquered by time. No thing beside remains. Round the decay / Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare / The lone and level sands stretch far away.

I'm sad this will happen to what I've written but hopefully some of it has already been useful to some people. If you are one of those people maybe you would consider looking after something I worked on with a very small bus factor:

Good article nominations currently require nominators to be "significant contributors" but sometimes this is waived if a significant contributor is consulted (see here)—this is me giving blanket permission for any articles where I am one.

Yours faithfully, (as one editor once called me) a "far-left extremist, mentally-ill tranny freak". — Bilorv (talk) 18:15, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I'm so sorry to see you go! I hope this big news is good news, and I wish you all the best. -- asilvering (talk) 18:21, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We're losing so many people recently. I think there is hope of a legacy being left behind, and at least with a handful of our articles, they might stand the test of time for decades. If you want I could shepherd your articles and I'll try to help out in some of the areas you were active in, hopefully when I get back. Take care okay? You'll be remembered. User:Extraordinary Writ submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I nominate Bilorv to be Editor of the Week for unrelenting dedication to what this encyclopedia is really about. This is evident in all their contributions, from offering unusually perspicacious projectspace commentary to reviewing others' articles to inspiring heretofore unseen feats of content creation, but the best measure of their work is the impact it has on readers. When I say that Bilorv's content (about television, books, and much else) has been read 100,000,000 times, I'm more likely to be guilty of underestimation than exaggeration. And those readers – real people – encounter articles written to the highest standards, including (but not at all limited to) three FAs and fifty GAs. Bilorv is the consummate battleship: someone whose content creation reaches and sustains high levels of quantity, quality, and relevance. In the long term, that fact is far more meaningful than any award. But the award certainly won't hurt. Seconded by User:HouseBlaster.
